She was out and about mainly to pass the time. Iriyana still had some time before Ergon got off work and was able to spend time with her. It sucked that she was usually done with her hunting before he was done with his work but it was life and had been that way since she could remember. In the recent years she’d gotten so used to it that she was pretty good at keeping herself entertained until he showed up or it was time for her to go by the shop and meet him. The few times that she’d gotten there and he was still working she helped out as much as she could. Which wasn’t really much given that she didn’t know a thing about working in a store.
Today, however, she wouldn’t have any trouble in finding a way to distract herself until it was time to meet with her boyfriend. There was a festival happening! The colors and the crowd of people out in the streets would be enough of a distraction to keep her from thinking about the time and it would hopefully pass by quicker.
As she mingled in she watched the people pass by in their best clothes and smiled. The effort people put in to enjoy something was amazing. Riya herself hadn’t dressed up, she was in her normal attire but even that was still pretty good. While walking she was almost run over by a trio of kids running past and it made her laugh. The mother, or at least who she thought was the mother came running by next with an apology for her and her kids before she kept on after them while yelling for them to wait up. Riya grinned at the display and shook her head.
“Hey there Iriyana! Can I interest you in some treats today?” A familiar voice called out to her from the left.
Riya turned her head to look at who it was and instantly her face lit up. It was one of her dad’s merchant friends. She waved at him and looked both ways to make sure she wouldn’t be run over by zooming children before she walked over to his stall. “Hey there Tormad. What are you doing up here?” It was too early for their yearly trek. He usually traveled with her father anyways and she knew her dad was not in Zena. If he was then she would be surrounded by family.
“Heh, I came up early for the festival. I always missed it in the past but I made time this year.” He seemed proud of himself though.
She couldn’t help the laugh that left her over his proclamation. “So you’ll be leaving afterward huh?” When he nodded she thought about it for a second then nodded with him. “If I give you a letter to take to my parents would that be alright?”
“Sure thing kiddo, but only if you buy some tasty treats.” He winked at her and moved his hands to show off the display of sweets he had set out.
“Ah, blackmail? You drive a hard bargain.” Iriyana looked at the spread and felt her sweet tooth acting up. It was a good thing she had limited herself on how much coin she had brought with her otherwise she might buy everything he had in stock. The sweets were glistening with melted sugar and there was even nuts and other things sprinkled on top. “Hmn, i wonder if Ergon would like some of these?” She spoke to herself.
“Ergon?” Tormad questioned her with a raised brow. “Is that that boy you were always fussing over and waiting to come back and see?”
She colored a bit in the cheeks and nodded her head. To know she’d been like that when she was younger only made it embarrassing. It was certainly a good thing Ergon never knew about that. “Yes, he’s the guy I’ve been seeing since he and I were both kids.” She smiled. “I asked him to move in with me not too long ago.” Riya reached up and tucked her short hair behind her long ear.
“Oh ho! Moving fast aren’t ya?” He couldn’t help the teasing as he winked at her again.
“Not really, its been years since we started dating. I think it’s a good time.” She nodded her head then moved to the side a little to get a better look at some of the sweets. What she found was a hard candy with the purple color that reminded her of Ergon’s cheeks when he blushed.
“That’s a berry flavor.” Tormad told her.
“I’ll take two.” She stood upright and dug into her pocket for the coin to pay for it. “Keep the extra as payment for carrying my letter. I’ll have it written out by end of day tomorrow.” She told him.
The coin was handed over in exchange for the treat and she took them gratefully. “Thank you Tormad. I hope the festival is as good as you hoped.” He nodded at her and waved before he called out to other passers by to get their attention for sales.
