So apparently the songbird could sing and quite beautifully so. Yunan found himself entranced by the performance, the allure of the singer only amplified by the continuous glasses of wine that the hybrid had consumed to survive the evening with his partner. It wasn’t quite like him but the stress of other matters, the pressure of the crowds and the constant talking of the girl at his side kept the shimmering liquid coming. At least it appears that my instincts were correct in choosing him. Despite his disdain for larger crowds it was apparent that the Matori bard could easily attract one. The whole theater was sold out for the performance and there was even some sort of relevant hush at the beginning of the performance until the end when several women and some men tried to rush the stage with their flowers. It was at this point that Yunan turned towards his date and grudgingly gave her his arm. Not that she would notice the way his insides twisted at someone else’s touch because his mask was perfect and charming. Honestly it wasn’t as if there was anything wrong about the young woman and perhaps it was simply nerves which made her talk...a lot. Yunan found himself drinking more at their dinner together after the show, his job of being a perfect host only adding more liquid to both of their glasses as they enjoyed some of the finer wines to be had in Belrea. If she was enjoying drinking then he wouldn’t stop her. It just meant he would consume far more alcohol than he had actually intended for himself tonight.
“This is really okay?”
“Yes, yes. I can order more if you like this one. It’s almost reminiscent of a drink we have back in Matori. I should have brought some bottles for dinner tonight.” He had in fact brought over some expensive drinks but those were reserved for whenever he was buttering up potential investors for his medical stores. Not that he would admit to such a thing and instead played it off as a my bad, next time we meet moment. Either way it seemed the lady was having a good time and Yunan found himself relieved whenever he saw her into her home for the night. “Have a goodnight, Carlotta.” He kissed her hand, a flush decorating her cheeks as she nodded and quickly darted through the doorway. Yunan was not in the mood for a fling with a maid else he could have perhaps considered extending their evening but instead he had another destination in mind. There was a fish to catch after all. Just the thought made him chuckle softly. An absurd thought that he would even chuckle at such a thing but perhaps the copious amount of alcohol was warming him up to bad humor tonight. “Oh spirits...literally.” s**t. Why would he make any puns? Yunan closed his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose before taking a swig of bitter tea from a flask at his side. Surely that could help him focus more. He was not one to miss meetings after all and despite his slight inebriation the hybrid continued on to his designated meeting spot with Nicosia, an elegant bouquet of flowers in hand as a form of customary congratulations for the performance.

As it turned out, becoming a headliner at the legendary Golden Gilly's Theater in Valmon brought it's fair amount of perks. Nyko was expected to perform each night with no less than his very best, and he never failed to deliver. The woman was as ruthless as she was passionate; even in her old age Gilly's ambitions transcended the stars themselves. She only accepted those into her fold that were just as hungry for success as she was, and Nyko's desire to become a living legend rivaled her own. That night he'd shone as bright as the sun itself, and brought the house to it's knees.
Every performance left Nyko with a high that could never be replicated. Each time he stepped backstage after hearing hundreds of voices screaming his name made his heart feel as if it were fit to burst. The stage hands were quick to bring him water, cooling clothes and even a change of clothes depending on how much sweat he'd acquired. A round of congratulations went around for everyone involved and when Gilly would pass, nodding her head as she did with silent praise, he knew he'd done well.
The songs tonight had been a mixture of deeper ballads and more excitable performances. He'd brought the crowd to their feet at first with a rousing number, one that had his voice echoing to all corners of the theater. Seeing his backup singers milling about reminded him of how they'd echoed his lyrics so perfectly out there; booming in the background, carrying his message while never outshining him. And then he'd shifted, the backup crew dropping away until it was only his voice building into a crescendo of mournful cries. Higher and higher until his own soul had resonated with time itself.
Everytime he sang a ballad Nyko remembered. He saw the small room he'd had to share with his mother growing up, he felt the raw pain of a whip on his back, the sand in his wounds, laying his head on a familiar chest, the feel of Thessia's curls under his cheek....it always hit him so hard that Nyko was left with a profound ache afterward. It was why he rarely ended his shows on ballads; if he did he'd be in too much of a stupor to celebrate afterwards.
He managed to slip away long enough for a quick bath and some time to himself. His performances, while exhilarating, often took a lot out of Nyko and if he was meant to make it through the night he'd need his energy. The matorian may have taken longer if he thought he had the time, and yet...Hurriedly drying himself off, Nyko slipped into a plain hooded tunic and a fresh pair of pants. It was far from flashy, but with any luck that would work in his favor. And so far, it had! He was able to get past several people on the way to the designated meeting spot.
In all honesty he didn't know why he was nervous now. He'd already performed infront of hundreds of people so why now was his skin starting to crawl?

Yunan would have found himself pacing the meeting area if not for the way that the floor threatened to twist beneath his feet. The damn mosaic tiles that the Belrean theaters were so fond of that made swirling patterns with different colors were definitely not his friends tonight and Yunan found himself almost sneering at a rather brilliant blue set that twisted into patterns of various greens. Curse the arts and his annoying attraction to them. It was too reminiscent of his mother....truly far too reminiscent for his liking. Yunan's golden gaze smoldered as he thought about Nicosia's tonight and how the ballads had actually dared to tug at his heartstrings. It would be a challenge indeed to steal that contract away from the Belrean woman who had caught such a golden goose. However, the harder the challenge the more determined Yunan was to conquer it. At the thought an evening breeze shifted through the smaller alcove that was towards the older part of the entertainment distract, an outdoor amphitheater that would allow evening performers to sing to the stars above. It was nestled away and almost forgotten whenever there wasn't some summer performance, the large marble pillars covered with dainty strands of ivy as the larger, more expensive indoor theaters started to take priority. It was the perfect place for a midnight tryst, the privacy obvious to Yunan who had stumbled upon the place days before. Of course he wasn't hoping for any tryst but it would be easier to speak with the performer in an area with a far less chance of eavesdroppers.
Where are you little songbird? His golden gaze studied the area as he leaned nonchalantly against a pillar, the bouquet lightly clutched in his hands almost as if poised to fall at any moment. A slight hum left his throat as he found his gaze drifting upwards towards the heavens. It seemed that away from the main hub of the city that the stars did truly shine similarly to those in Matori. Suddenly he stopped humming and paused, his head tilting as if he heard something. Perhaps it was the alcohol making him more alert than usual but he swore that he had noticed something from the edge of his vision. "Nicosia." Yunan almost sang the name himself as he kept his gaze on the stars and spoke softly, "If you're here then come forward already so that I can congratulate you for such a performance."

Nyko pulled the hood of his tunic up over his ears as a subconscious shiver ran through him. While the weather wasn't nearly as frigid as what winter would bring it was enough to make the tips of his ears ache. Maybe I should have worn a thicker shirt? He'd often wondered if he was more sensitive to changes in weather because he'd grown up in Oba or if he was just a sensitive soul in general. His fiancée would claim the later, and now more than ever Nyko was apt to believe her.
His amber eyes looked around the area before slipping away towards the outdoor amphitheater. Even if he was being tracked it wasn't as if Nyko were doing anything illegal. And yet, meeting someone in a dark area in the middle of the night...it certainly didn't sound straight and narrow. His steps were light, but hurried which didn't exactly make the tall matorian discreet. By the time he saw Yunan there was a little flutter to his heart brought on by the rush of the evening as a whole. First the performance and now this. It seemed like every time Nyko's adrenaline levels threatened to fall they spiked up just as quickly.
And when he heard his name Nyko quirked his brow. What's with that tone? Still, he came out of the shadows and pulled his hood back just enough to expose his face. His cheeks were flushed from pure excitement over the evening and his eyes were a brilliant shade of honey that were always brightest after a performance. "So you liked it? In that case-" He reached into his pocket and brought out a simple flask. "-care for a drink to celebrate?"
Of course if anything was off about Yunan Nyko didn't notice; he was never known to be the sharpest of men. He did, however, see the flowers. "Gardening by moonlight?"

Ah, there was the pretty little song bird....well not exactly that little if Yunan remembered correctly and in that second his tipsy mind appreciated how wonderfully well his photographic memory brought things so easily to mind. "Why yes, yes I did rather like it." The hybrid mused as he studied Nyko, a dangerously mischievous gleam in his lowering gaze, his lips curving up ever so slightly with some ideas before his mind caught up to their present conversation and his eyes snapped back up towards Nyko's face. "I suppose you do have some talents to attract such a crowd." He gave a little twist of the hand as if to give the moment to the other man, "Why not add a bit more drinking to the night?" Just a little more alcohol wouldn't hurt, correct? As long as it wasn't some sort of trashy brew. His lips pursed at the thought before he took a couple of steps forward and held up the flowers in question.
"Obviously I had to be considerate of the world's customs. Wouldn't it be rude if I didn't bring some flowers?" He smirked as he held out the bouquet towards Nyko, "I had tomatoes prepared as well just in case but it seemed you passed the test." A jest....somewhat. Yunan's gaze darted about the amphitheater, the effect of alcohol making it harder than usual to focus like usual as he appreciated the beauty of the empty area that seemingly gleamed in the moonlight, "The ambiance here is rather nice. I'm surprised they don't have you sing in a more classical place such as this." It would be a beautiful image indeed.

Nyko felt his cheeks darken as his heart fluttered. Really, what was up with Yunan this evening? He knew the other man to have his own specific brand of dramatics, even if they weren't nearly as flamboyant as Nyko's, but this was....well, it wasn't unwelcome.
Accepting gifts after a performance was still something he was getting used to. Nyko just wasn't used to receiving gifts at all, and somehow this was so much more intimate than the flowers tossed on stage by screaming fans. His honeyed eyes brightened and when he brought them up to his nose they smelled like sunlight. "Guess I got lucky this time; if you ruined my outfit Gilly would have strung you up for sure." After all, most everything he wore was a loaner and each piece cost more than Nyko's entire apartment.
As if drawn to it, Nyko took a few lazy steps towards the amphitheater, flowers tucked in one arm and the booze being carried in the other. "Want to know a secret? When I was a kid this was everything I wanted." For a moment he held his arms out and took a slow, steady spin one one of the steps leading down towards the stage. "I didn't even know theaters existed, but I'd seen plenty of stages and I knew if you could sing loud enough that people would come." Half way down he settled at one of the bench seats, crossed a leg under himself and popped the top on the flask.
"If younger me could see me now he'd s**t himself." Nyko took the first drink, screwed up his nose and passed the flask off to Yunan.

"I dare her to try." Yunan's gaze flashed dangerously in the dusk of evening, the golden orbs exploding supernovas creating their own universe against the darkness of space. Perhaps he was a bit tipsy but he refused to let any Gilly string him up. If anything he would string her and others up to get his way! What did he want so badly now though? He already had everything set up for his business but dammit he was feeling greedy tonight. "Shame that you changed else I would have risked ruining it just to see." He found himself teasing as he reached out to trail his fingers slightly down Nyko's arm, his mouth pursed thoughtfully as he imagined the possibility.
His gaze didn't leave Nyko as he listened to the secret that the other man was confiding to him. "Not the classiest reaction but why would he be so surprised? How could you not believe in yourself with such a voice, Nicosia?" Following his companion's movements, Yunan slowly sank onto a seat next to the Matori. He stretched out his legs before him and slowly crossed them at the ankles as he took the flask from Nyko and took a careful drink himself. It was bitter but he swallowed without protest before handing it back to the bard. "Zena had something in the capital but it could only be used during the summers and so much of my musical experiences were restricted to Matori and then later Oba." He admitted after a moment, his gaze moving from Nyko as he studied the area around them. "The theaters I knew of in Matori were not like this and far more natural....just the cliffs and the seas."
"Perhaps younger me wouldn't have s**t myself but I would have been intrigued to know that such a place like this existed across the oceans of my home." Would knowing about Belrea had saved her? A dark expression flickered across his features before he shoved the thought aside. The past was the past and it was the future where his medical stores could offer others hope while also giving him so much profit.

Alright that was...Nyko wasn't imaging that, right? For moment he just watched Yunan's fingers ghost down his arm, transfixed that it was even happening at all before things seemed to move on their own accord. If it were anyone else Nyko would have known it was just a playful joke between friends, but Yunan wasn't the type...So what was that?
"Believe it or not, this gorgeous man you see today wouldn't exist if I was still back home." Stretched his legs out in front of him, Nyko rested his heels on the bench in front of him as he leaned back on the one just behind. When it was his turn with the flask he knocked back a healthy amount, barely flinching at the burn of cheap liquor. Despite Yunan's warning Nyko himself had no idea what fine booze tasted like, so when he bought drinks he always went for the best value over actual pleasure. "My mom's an Oban slave. Well-" Rolling his eyes, the matorian snorted. "Sorry, 'servant'. They act like it's different in front of others, but it's not." The arrogance, the sheer affluence, guards turning a blind eye to blatant abuse...It was all there, clear as the sky above them, but no one cared. Oba's the land of the damned. "Nicosia's not even my real name; it's the one my mom gave me to make them happy. She always called me Nyko. It sounds better though, I guess; fancier, more important. That's what Thessia said. " The other man had seen him naked so there was no hiding the mass of scars across his back. He'd earned them by defying orders and would have done so again if given the chance. If he hadn't known Nyko was born into less than ideal circumstances after that then surely he'd had an inkling.
"Zena, Matori, Oba, now Belrea...you've been a little bit of everywhere, huh?" He looked over to Yunan with a wry expression that dropped a little after seeing the hybrid's own. "You okay?"

Ah, so some of the history was finally coming to light. Yunan's cool gaze slid over towards the other man and a strangely almost considerate expression crossed his fine features. "I see. I knew that such things still occurred within the capital especially but they always seemed to cover it up particularly well for the most part." Though it had been obvious in some meetings whenever he saw someone scurrying around the corner with attire that was simply a bit too ragged for most servants. He had deals to make and while it left a bitter taste in his mouth he had to endure those meetings before finding more creative ways to find new employment for those he could. It was infuriating considering his parents had both risked their lives to end such a system so many years ago and Yunan was not about to stand for it. He sometimes would bend others to his will but they would not become less than him simply due to their blood alone. Perhaps because of their incompetence but never for their origins. It was why he delighted in ousting nobles in their own games and taking power and riches from them. "It is a slight shame because I was fond of saying Nicosia but Nyko has its own flavor." He rolled the word with a faint accent and smirked. "If you have a preference for Nyko then I shall use it more often. You are the one reacting to it and not me so why should I force you to go by something other than what you desire?"
Fancier and more important? The thought made him scoff, the buzz of alcohol tingling his ears and making him lose more of his typically cold filter. "If it takes a name to make you seem important then does this Thessia even see you?" His golden gaze was almost molten as he studied Nyko, "Nyko seems just as important to me. Names do hold power but at the same time it is rather outdated to value how lengthy a name is over the actual person using it. Trash is still trash after all regardless of its label." Damn. He enjoyed punishing those who deserved it but the more he heard about the bard the more he seemed to soften towards him. It was almost strangely enough as if he were feeling...protective? Perhaps he was just nostalgic for someone else that had filled his life with love and song. Still, if the songbird was to bring him profit then it was best to make certain that he shined and wasn't dulled by anyone. That obviously was the only reason that his gut tightened at the idea of this Thessia. She would have to be dealt with eventually....a truth that he opted to keep from his companion.
"One must travel a lot to strike business deals in this world." Quipped back Yunan before giving a shrug and reaching for the alcohol. "I've perhaps drank a bit too much. It makes me feel.....nostalgic?" He managed with a small smile towards Nyko. "I'll be fine so worry about yourself or if you need for me to worry about you I can do that as well."

Perhaps it was the rush of the night or the flash of hard liquor in his system, but Nyko's already loose inhibitions were starting to fade. He hadn't eaten nearly enough to balance out the alcohol hitting his stomach which in part was why he didn't mind talking about things that had once been kept so close to his chest. Or maybe it was the fact that he was becoming more used to having Yunan around..."...This guy I grew up with had his tongue cut out as a kid. Can you imagine having the kind of power to make that decision for a child, just because they were talking back?!" He raised his hands in aggravation, and only part of it was at the situation he'd been talking about. Bringing him up in any context was still a sore spot for Nyko, but so much of their past lives had been tied together that it was nigh impossible. "I did manage to pick this up, though-" Sitting up straighter, Nyko turned towards Yunan and brought his hands up in front of him. With a series of hand gestures he signed out 'you have a nice a**'. "See? More talented than you thought~"
The light, almost aristocratic lilt that Yunan's accent gave to Nicosia made it feel almost mystical. That pop at the end of Nyko, however, is what made his heart warm. "When it's just us you can call me Nyko; around everyone else it's Nicosia. I like Nyko a lot better, but here it's my brand." Over the years he'd managed to turn his slave name into something that actually benefited him and for that he was happy enough to keep it.
And honestly, it seemed like he wasn't the only one being affected by the alcohol. Nyko wasn't so far gone that he wasn't able to pick up on how odd it was for Yunan to be this open about things, but really, he wasn't mad about it. It was strangely intimate to have such a talk under the stars in an empty amphitheater. Still, hearing Thessia talked about like that made him bristle. "Of course she sees me! She's the only one who sees me! She's the one who brought me here and because of her I got hired on with Gilly." Nyko knew he wasn't the smartest man in the world, but Thessia didn't care. She was more than happy to pick up the slack and make sure that he used his talents to the fullest. Thanks to her his dreams were becoming a reality.
"If you worry about me then I'll worry about you."

"Absolutely disgusting." Yunan replied quietly, his gaze narrowed in complete hatred at the idea of such a thing. If someone had even dared to think about committing such an atrocity near him then he would be ripping off more than their own damn tongues that was for certain. He did raise an appreciative brow at the show of knowledge. "Seems like you do hold some more surprises after all. I wonder what's next?" A teasing statement mostly but still he couldn't help the way that his gaze gleamed whenever he glanced over Nyko, taking in everything as if searching for some sort of hint at the next revelation.
"Duly noted. Nyko it is." Yunan spoke the name slowly almost as if tasting it in his mouth. It truly wasn't bad at all. However, whenever the other man bristled so did Yunan. "The only one who sees you?" He found himself hissing back almost in hurt before anger flashed in his gaze. Yunan moved quicker than a flash of lightning when he grabbed the other man's chin and turned his face towards his own, their bodies less than a few inches apart as he studied the Matori. "Do you think I don't see you?" Despite the smoldering expression that crossed his face his words were spoken softly and dare one think...almost sweetly. "Worry about me if you will but don't think I don't see you, Nyko." Strange how much frustration he felt whenever the bard gushed such a thing. Perhaps Thessia had been the first to see him but Yunan was here now and he was determined to keep the man right in front of him and on the stage where he could burn brighter than any star.
He was acting recklessly and showing emotions which was not like him. Damn alcohol and its influence and damn his heart for messing with him like this because of the man sitting before him. Why had such a temptation from his own home country come into his life in a foreign place like this? Curse his weakness for music and for this man with his heavenly voice and lips that seemed so inviting indeed!

"Stick around and find out. I'm full of secrets." Nyko drew the last word out on a heavy tongue that ended with a grin. When he lowered himself back into a semi-laying position he turned his hips just enough so that he was facing Yunan. At first his actions were smooth, natural, even as his ire was raised but then quick as a flash he was caught.
His body ended up in a halfway turned position with just one hand balancing on the bench seat behind him, the other reaching out to sit atop Yunan's thigh so he wouldn't fall. They were close enough that Nyko could feel the heat of the other man's breath on his skin and the smell of booze on his tongue did nothing to diminish the adrenaline causing his skin to sing.
Does he-? Did he really see him, the real him? And did he see this? Emboldened by the storm of the moment Nyko rose just enough to bring one leg underneath him and close the cap between the two of them. In an instant he leaned forward, pressing his lips to the other man's and leaning most of his weight on him. It was reckless, stupid, brazen even! But Nyko didn't care; in that moment it just seemed right.

Even with the tang of booze that lingered in both of their mouths the kiss was sweeter than any of the finest honey. Yunan didn't back away from the kiss but instead opted to deepen it as his tongue claimed Nyko's mouth for himself. Heat rose along his skin and he found himself moving his hand so that he could press the back of the Matori's neck, urging him as close as possible in their tangled positioned. A knee was balanced on the bench and the other leg locked tightly against the other man to keep them both in place as Yunan delved into the moment. He was not rigid like ice anymore but rather molten as he kissed Nyko, buried feelings allowed to rise in the darkness of the night that surrounded them. It was risky, dangerous almost to allow one to give into passion but right now it was all that Yunan desired. He hadn't realized it until the moment that their lips collided but something had stirred whenever the other man had first climbed into his bed by mistake and Yunan's subconscious had been driven whatever hunger the other man had awoken with that simple embrace. He had yearned for that warmth, had locked away something in the dark recess of his heart, and now that he had a taste of it he wanted more regardless of the risks. He would claim this moment and any worrying about the future be damned.
Yunan's teeth nipped lightly at Nyko's bottom lip before he finally pulled away, his golden gaze narrowed thoughtfully as he studied the other man. "Delicious." He murmured with the faintest hint of a smile. "I think I would like to do more than simply see you, Nyko." The words were heavy as he lingered there for a moment longer, a finger trailing slightly down Nyko's cheek as Yunan slowly relinquished his hold.

While the fervent reception wasn't expected it was definitely welcomed. Nyko snaked his arm around Yunan's waist, pressing the flat of his palm against the hybrid's spine and pulled him close. If there had been an ounce of space between the men before it had all, but been extinguished by that point. A smarter man would have worried about prying eyes lurking in the wings, but Nyko wasn't known for his wit. It was strange how repressed he'd grown while his career had taken flight and this...this wasn't like anything he'd experienced with Thessia. If her kisses had been like craving sweets after a long show them Yunan's was akin to his first meal after being deprived of food in that Oban prison. He only broke apart in small segments and just to get air before going back for more.
In all honesty he never would have let go if Yunan hadn't been the one to put some distance between them. When he did Nyko's breathing came out in little pants; skin flushed and eyes positively fever bright.
"The amphitheater," He murmured, voice deepened with an outright husky tone. "There's more room." Because as much as he wanted to continue where they were balance was precarious at best. He had at least enough mental facilities left to know that getting too involved would just hurt them.

"Is there? More room for what exactly?" Replied Yunan almost tauntingly with a raised eyebrow despite his own voice reflecting the desire in Nyko's own. "Are you planning to sing to the stars for me?" The tease slipped from his lips as he leaned against the Matori's ears and nipped lightly at the skin there before pulling back once more. If he lingered any longer they would end up tumbling through the rows of seats surrounding the amphitheater. Despite the haze of alcohol there were some sensical thoughts floating about in his mind and Yunan sluggishly reached out for some of them before they slipped away again. Every time he found Nyko looking at him the thoughts simply seemed to disappear and more devious ideas formed instead.
If he wanted something then he should take it, right? His gaze narrowed thoughtfully and his brow furrowed as he took a couple of steps backwards away from Nyko and then towards the amphitheater. "I suppose...we can explore and see where it takes us." Yunan mused quietly as he waited in the aisle for Nyko to move forward.
