Aaricia leaned against an empty stall in the growing darkness of the evening with a set of knitting in her hands. There had been a play performed that night, and she was waiting for the affluential guests to head on to their homes. Aari was not normally one to play tricks for the sake of the trick, but she was feeling feisty this particular evening. Tonight, she was only out for the enjoyment. All she needed was to wait for a good target to come down her part of the street.

Heading home from his last appointment of the day, Tacrith wasn’t paying much attention to the path he was taking. He was actually debating seeing if a certain shop was still open for a bite to eat. He had heard about the performance going on that evening, so perhaps the shop had extended its hours. It had been a particularly grueling day of running around and he had his cane out for support. A short rest would do him some good.

Aari held out the scarf she was making and cocked her head to examine it. Well, it really wasn’t that bad. Maybe she would save it for when she eventually went back to Zena? The audience crowd was passing by, but she heard one set of feet turn in her direction. Perking up, she poked her head around the corner.. and gasped loudly. Was that a cane? Was she about to prank up an old man?! “Stop!”

A woman’s voice shouting was of little interest to the healer, assuming she was talking to someone else in the crowd beyond him. He just assumed it was some hectic mother chasing after a child freed from the restraints of the performance hall. Then he felt his foot catch on something and he toppled forward, falling face-first into a freshly made pit of mud and knees smacking hard into the dry earth underneath. He yanked his head up for a gasp of air, flipping quickly to check on his medical bag and face burning hot under the layer of mud.

Aari winced and covered her face with her hands. Of all the times and all the places for her to play a joke! The man was using a cane, and she’d tripped him into the mud! Jerk or not, she was well above picking on the elderly! Flustered beyond hope, she stepped into the mud to help the stranger back up. “Are you alright? Here, let me help you.” Wait, this wasn't even a native snob! Oh no..

Tac tried to yank back when he heard and felt the assistance. He could get himself up! However, the hands on him were surprisingly strong in comparison to the feminine voice in his ears, and he found himself upright before he could reject the help. He wiped at the muck clinging to his face and blinked at the woman. “Thank you. I seem to have tripped over my own feet,” he murmured, looking back the way he had come for what he could have tripped over. There was no obvious obstacle in sight, but could certainly feel his leg tingling from the impact with the ground.

With another wince, Aari clasped her hands together like a schoolgirl getting caught skipping class. “I am sorry; your feet are fine. I.. I set that for someone else.” Well, as fine as a guy with a cane could be, she supposed. Oh, she must have sounded so foolish. She bent to scoop up the man’s bag and swiped at the mud splattered over its exterior, and winced yet again when she saw his scraped up knees. “Are you hurt?”

Focusing on brushing more mud off of his clothing, Tac almost didn’t register what the woman had said. Almost. “You set up something to make a bystander fall into a pool of mud?” he asked, irritation making an otherwise flat delivery flicker sharply. His eyes dropped to the bag and he held out his hand firmly. Even the relief of knowing he hadn't actually tripped over himself was undercut by learning what he had fallen prey to. “Honestly, what a juvenile thing to do; and then to have the audacity to ask if I am well? Give me my bag.”

Aaricia bit her lip, holding onto the bag while staring at the demanding hand. “I am truly sorry! I tried to warn you, but I was too… late.” Pausing a moment, Aari sighed softly. The apology was just as late as her warning had been. “Please, are you certain you’re okay? I can help you get to the clinic if you need so they may work on you. There's always at least one doctor there at all times.”

Tacrith narrowed his eyes sharply. “Miss, I am using a cane but I am no invalid. Your only concern should be cleaning up that mess you’ve made.” Casting a light into the air, he bent to check on the state of his knees. He would have to clean the dirt out before he could heal himself. “Besides, I do not need the clinic.” He leaned against the wall and magicked up a stream of water to flush out the scrapes. It wasn’t anything powerful, but it would get the job done.

When the light appeared to allow for a better view, and then the water swished out of the air, Aari let out a long groan. A Yaeli with magic and what was surely a medical bag? She hadn’t felt so out of place in years! The man was probably around the same age as she was, and yet she felt like she was standing in front of an elder. “The Yaeli doctor… I have heard about you. Please, allow me to make it up to you. Is there anything you need that I can do?”

Watching the flesh mend nicely, Tac couldn’t help thinking on his brother and the numerous scars covering that thin body. Maybe one day, he would be able to figure out how to undo scarring… “Oh, ‘the Yaeli doctor,’ is it?” he asked tersely, glaring over from under his brow. He had thought that his name might be a bit more widespread by now, but he was apparently still just that Yaeli guy. How infuriating! “My name is Tacrith, if you care to know. As I said, just clean up your mess and give me my bag. I just need to get home.”

Pressing her lips, Aari held back the urge to return the man’s irritation with some sass of her own. That would do little to help the situation. Besides, the whole incident was rather her own fault. “For what it is worth, I truly do hear good things about you even without a name. You help people that others won’t. …Thank you.” In a fit of stubbornness, she clutched Tac's bag tighter to her chest. “Please, Tacrith, allow me to carry this for you? I, Aari, assure you that I will not be setting up such traps again any time soon.”

The change in tone of the conversation caught Tac off guard. The woman was still absolutely ridiculous for playing pranks despite being so well spoken, but at least she had redeemed herself a little with the news of his reputation. “Yes, well, I can’t very well be helping others when I’m being kept busy falling into mud puddles. Keep your future obnoxious tricks and traps away from civil company.” He definitely wouldn’t be stopping to eat now that is clothes were mucked up. Now the woman, this Aari, was clinging to his bag! She was a determined little thing. After a moment of inner debate, Tac sighed with resignation and waved his hand. “If you must, Aari. Do your best to not drop it.” He supposed it was the least she could do, and he was silently grateful for the break.
