Arnica hadn't really ever made plans to hang out with anyone that wasn't a member of the Dark Mirror Court, so he took this as an opportunity to either learn about things no one had wanted to teach him--or just relax.

Going into this with someone who wasn't part of his faction probably meant that he didn't have to worry about meeting anyone else's expectations, and as long as there wasn't a fight to be had, he couldn't imagine why he wouldn't be able to just take it easy. It was a nice night--a little cool, but ultimately nothing more than what he was expecting.

Chilly enough that he was glad they were having a fire, at least. He'd arrived earlier than they'd settled, and found a good place a little out of the way, but still in their designated spot. There were no other energy signatures, so he anticipated something relaxing. The abandoned church was just out of sight, and tall trees surrounded the area. He was fortunate enough to find someone's old firepit, so all he had to do was fix it up a bit, and by nine fifty he had a small, comfortable fire. He had pulled over a large stone for himself; there was already a nicer one here across from the fire. He had a bag laid next to it and just planted himself near to the flames, warming up his hands as he waited for Eris.

Despite her best efforts, Eris couldn't keep the smile off her face as she headed to the abandoned church. Since their last meeting, the idea of 'hanging out' with someone settled a bit soothingly deep inside of her.

Maybe humans weren't actually meant to be alone...

That would still be seen depending on this tentative... cooperativeness with this specific Dark Mirror. Arnica. Still a very odd name for her to remember and say.

As she came up to the church, she saw the glow of the fire and the anxiety pit grew just a little bit. Her footing hesitated, but no. She was going to try. So she came out of the shadows, a solid black back pack on her back. She'd brought some thermoses from home full of hot chocolate. If he had brought Marshmallows, she wasn't about to have that with nothing to drink. Everyone knew that was a bad idea.

"Hello," she said, hands tight on the backpack straps.

He sat up when he felt her approaching, and smiled when she was within speaking distance. "Eris, hey. Come on, have a seat. The fire's warm. The rock might be a little cool, I didn't think to bring blankets or anything. I'll remember for next time," he said absentmindedly, but reached for the bag he'd brought, unzipped it, and showed her the haul he'd brought.

"Marshmallows, graham crackers, chocolate. Also brought some Nutella, if you like, and some caramel chunks. I wasn't sure what I was in the mood for, so I figured there was no harm in bringing a little extra. I got sticks, too," he gestured, to two long, twiggy sticks that had a bit of a point carved into them already. He'd been able to get them ready while the fire was settling.

"How've you been since I last saw you?"

He was... very prepared. She had expected the basics, but this was a layout. With a bob of her head, the short woman went to the rock for her and sat on it with a shrug. "It's not that cold, the rock. Blankets aren't necessary. The stockings are pretty thick." She patted her calf as if making some kind of statement before she stopped and sat properly again like she'd been caught doing something stupid.

Eris cleared her throat and then took her backpack off to settle on her lap. From there she unzipped it and revealed two thermos, one was plain silver, and the other had stars on it. She handed the plain one to him.

"Just... hot chocolate. Nothing too impressive." It was all she had brought.

How was she since last week? Well. She tossed some of the hair off of her shoulder and thought long and hard.

"Work. Then home. That's how it's been. Patrolling, then home."

She didn't even have family to reach out to. "Have you found any clues to your answers?"

He blinked and accepted the thermos gratefully; it was far superior to the mere water bottles he had tucked at the bottom of the bag. "Thank you," he said, genuinely surprised and pleased. He opened the thermos immediately to smell it and let out a content sigh at how sweet it was. He capped it without drinking any, if only because he was eager to answer her questions.

"I've only turned up more questions." He shook his head, as if exasperated. Still, he didn't seem upset and reached for the marshmallows, passing her an entire bag before he opened one for himself. He plucked one of the thin sticks and slid a marshmallow on. "What do you do for work?"

The bag of marshmallows was accepted with a curious expression on her face, good eye squinting just a little. Interesting. Still, she followed suit and stabbed a marshmallow into a stick before sticking it near the fire. She didn't like hers immediately charred.

"That seems to be another theme. The more questions you get answered, the more pops up. One would imagine some kind of schooling system for new members. At least a six month cram school." Eris heaved a sigh before looking toward him again.

That was a dangerous question to answer, wasn't it? Still, he wasn't... an Order senshi. It wouldn't be like she gave a name. "I'm a bookkeeper in the education department." That was vague enough. "Data entry, basically. It's not fun, but it's repetitive enough I can just... run on auto pilot." Clearly not a passion of hers. There was a bunch of dumb office drama, but she didn't put her nose in that business. It didn't bother her line of work, so she didn't even try to stop them.

"I've thought about getting a cat or a dog."

Arnica let his marshmallow stay over the fire; he didn't even try to get it to golden brown and just let it turn into a fireball, that he let char up before he blew out the fire.

"Ah, an office job," he noted as he waited for his marshmallow to cool a bit. He made sure the bag was open and insisted, "Help yourself to anything, it's all for sharing." He wanted to burn a few marshmallows before he got into the s'mores.

"I couldn't do an office job," he continued. "It's enough to drive me stir crazy. I'm a freelancer, for the most part. Photography, journalism. It's unpredictable, so I was living out of my car for a bit, but anything's better than being stuck in a tiny cubicle, doing the same thing over and over again. --For me, at least," he clarified. "I just can't sit still for that long. Everything starts to drive me crazy. What's stopping you from getting a pet?"

He moved from topic to topic fluidly; it didn't feel like he'd just suddenly decided to change the topic, and there was a gentle flow of curiosity. He plucked the burnt marshmallow off of his stick and put it in his mouth, watching her as he chewed.

She listened to him talk about being a freelancer while keeping her eye on the marshmallow. When it was almost black, she pulled it back and blew on it slowly before popping it into her own mouth with a little sigh. She hadn't done this in years. It was rather nice.

"Mmm," she put a hand in front of her mouth to talk while her mouth was a wreck of marshmallows around her lips. "It drives me insane. I usually have my headphones in to tune out the whining and gossip. Most of it's about me." It didn't sound like it really bothered her either.

"I never went to a higher education to figure out what I wanted to do. So when this job opened up, I learned how to do it, and I've been there for a few years now. It pays the bills well enough, so I don't... have any reason to quit."

Then the question came up about what was stopping her from having a pet. "I've only ever had fish. So I don't know what a real pet is like. The fish were also in a pond outside, so..."

She looked around for napkins and sighed a minute before using her glove. Oh well. Magic would clean it anyway. "So I don't know how to actually keep a pet? I don't know which I like better either, and both is overwhelming." Eris put another 'mallow on the stick and put it back over the fire. "I'm a bit lost as... where to even begin. I've read many articles and I want.... to adopt. But..." What did she want? What kind of dog? Did she want a dog?

Maybe a bird was her calling.

Honestly she just wanted something so she didn't feel completely alone. "I own the home, so I don't have that kind of limitation, but it's all very difficult to start."

"A cat," he answered after a second of thought. "They're low maintenance. Mostly self sufficient. You don't have to worry about letting them outside, or walking them. So if you're gone for work for a long period of time, you don't have to worry about leaving them home alone. But they'll still be excited when you get back. The downside is the claws, but. They have those little caps you can put on their nails. And dogs chew a lot, when they're teething. Puppies are notoriously destructive."

He was working on his second marshmallow.

"You can get a slightly older dog though. But they still need to be let out. I think cats are better for first time pet owners living alone, but puppies might be better for a house with multiple people to take care of the pup."

He was distracting himself by talking about the animals; it was easier than asking the question that he wanted to ask--why they were gossiping about her at the office.

But, still. He had manners. Sometimes.

"That's what I thought.." Still. Dogs were just so cute. Maybe if she could stay home more. She could go home during the lunches to let the dog out...a cat would be easier, especially since it would be her first real pet in her opinion.

"I guess, then I'll start looking at shelters or something to see what's around..." Maybe a chaos cat would fall upon her lap if she was lucky enough. They were around. Not as many as Order cats she'd seen, but they definitely existed.

She pulled back this marshmallow and actually assembled a smore with it. Cracker, chocolate, then another cracker to get the marshmallow out. The nutella and candy stayed unused as she bit into her creation, the stick leaning against the barrel carefully.

Her mind drifted back to the time she wasn't alone in the house. Kip had been there, the original house owner. She had feelings for him that she never spoke about, never really told him about. But fate had other things in mind for them. They weren't meant to be, which left her heartbroken, alone, but at least she hadn't been homeless. The house was hers. Big and empty.

"At least the cat gets it's own bedroom."

When Eris began assembling S'mores, so did Arnica. He still burned every one of his marshmallows, but this seemed completely deliberate. For his first one, he didn't bother with anything fancy; a piece of chocolate, a marshmallow, and a single piece of graham cracker was enough for him.

"It'll be spoiled, I see," he said, flashing a quick smile before he ate the s'more.

"You know. I haven't known you for long. But you really don't seem like trouble. I'm trying to figure out why anyone would pick a fight with you, or want to talk badly about you in the work space."

"I have a spare room and no friends or family so no point in a guest room." She shrugged her shoulders as if it was the most simple explanation in the world. She was too into tech to actually have a library, and her laptop and stuff was in her own bedroom, so it was an unused room collecting a lot of dust.

Then was the comment about why people talked about her. "...I am trying to open myself more. I... really do not like the spot light on me. I manage to draw attention either way. I had a blind eye one day, the next I'm taking a break because I had to have 'surgery and my eye taken'. So now the eyepatch draws even more attention than the pale eye did..."

She ducked her head, as if she could hide that side of her face and took a bite out of her s'mores. At least this was delicious.

"...It's not bad. Just theories on why I don't have a boyfriend, or friends. Why I never take the invitation out to lunch when they first offered it to me. Things like that."

"I'd have refused lunch if they were being catty bitches too," he huffed, taking another bite; of this s'more, he'd sprinkled some of the caramel pieces atop of it.

He shrugged. "Do you decorate it? The eyepatch, I mean. Or do you wear a standard white one? If they're going to stare, you might as well make it a fashion statement. No pressure or anything. I think I'd have to, if I were in your shoes. But there's less pressure for a guy, I suppose."

He was roasting another marshmallow when he asked, "Are you self conscious about it?"

He had noticed the way she ducked her head, but his eyes seemed trained on the quickly burning marshmallow.

God he was to the point, wasn't he?

Eris sighed heavily as she thought about his questions. "...It's usually plain black. Sometimes there's a little ribbon around it, but it's mostly undecorated and black. ...And yes," she murmured, looking back down at her s'more before finishing off the last bite.

"I scare children. Of course I'm self-conscious about it. They offered a glass replacement, but... I'm done with having things be there that aren't supposed to."

This woman had a long way to go before she had any form of self-esteem, it seemed like. She adjusted herself so more hair was falling and hiding her face, hoping to hide her discontent expression. She had to work even harder to be more alert by herself. It was a very, very obvious glaring weak spot she was sure people were going to take advantage of. It was just a matter of time.

"How old are you?" A very abrupt subject change away from her.

"Twenty two," he replied; he'd finished his last s'more and had given up being patient to try the hot chocolate, so he was currently sipping at it and let out a content sigh. He nodded approvingly and then added, "I'm sorry you had all that eye trouble. If it was going to happen to anyone, I wish it would have happened to someone who deserved it. It doesn't make you any less beautiful."

He reached for another marshmallow nonchalantly, like he wasn't even waiting to see her reaction. He seemed to be blunt and chose to speak his mind more than anything; there was no effort for blind flattery. "Children will learn there's far scarier things than a pretty lady with an eyepatch. Hopefully sooner rather than later, but I've learned that children generally aren't very clever. How old are you?"
