Kanika had heard that peace had been reached between the extremists and the Chibale Alkidikes. It certainly was good news, but it no longer affected Kanika. She didn’t feel she was part of those people anymore. Her life was here now in Kahikina, with her growing family and Pyrrha.
‘’Do you think peace will last?’’ Kanika ask Zandala who was currently working on restringing her bow while Kanika worked on sharpening her blades. Personally, she was surprised that peace had been reached at all considering all the blood shed that had happened between the two. Would her mothers want to return to visit family?

Truly, Zandala did not know how she felt about the whole peace thing. She’d left Chibale when she was so young, so many years deepened the gap between them she felt. Moving to Kahikina had only deepened that gap, she wasn’t sure she’d ever be able to move past that.
‘’I am sure Danika is a capable mystique,’’ Zandala responded, eyes on her bow string. She didn’t even know who Danika was, never had met her, but she was sure she was good. She didn’t really want to talk about it, or at least didn’t see the need to anymore.

‘’I didn’t say she wasn’t capable,’’ Kanika pushed on. ‘’I wondered if peace would last.’’ She knew Zandala was avoiding the subject, as violent as she had apparently been in her younger days, she had certainly mellowed out with age. For her part, Kanika was full of that fire and she wouldn’t back down from the conversation.
‘’I think they’re off to a good start, but I think the mood will sour.’’ The extremists weren’t known to be the forgetting kind. ‘’But I think the bad blood will remain for a while yet and I am sure that the peace will be fragile.’’

‘’What does it matter?’’ Zandala snapped, finally looking up to stare at her daughter. ‘’We longer live there, and I am sure you have no plans to return. So, it doesn’t concern us. Let them do as they please.’’ They’d been hunted for years, and their escape had left emotional scars on their family. Scars that many, including Kanika, were still trying to close. Including Zandala. Peace would be a good start to help the healing along, but so had the arrival of her grand daughter.
‘’You should move on Kanika, it no longer concerns us.’’ She said softly. ‘’And it definitely no longer concerns you.’’

‘’I know, but I am resentful.’’ Kanika wasn’t afraid to admit her faults, but she knew her sister wanted to go back and visit Chibale one day. Would it be dangerous for her?
The extremists hadn’t forgiven their little party to Kahikina, but maybe this would be a way for them to be able to also be forgiven. She didn’t care for herself, but she feared for her family, Pyrrha, and the children they might have in the future together. She didn’t want them to live in fear of being chased down by the extremists or the Chibale Alks for that matter.

"That’ll get you no where,’’ Zandala turned her attention back to her bow. ‘’In any case, I didn’t think you’d want to go back. Does Pyrrha want to go back?’’ She didn’t think so, but Pyrrha had a lot of family back there. It might be tempting to go back to see them.
Zandala wouldn’t have minded checking on her mothers back in Chibale, just to see how they were doing. However, if they were allied with the extremists, she would never be able to go back. It would be too dangerous and if she got caught then she’d either die or have to be saved.

‘’I don’t think so, but Zayanna does.’’ She feared for her sister as much as she did for Pyrrha. Though She knew Pyrrha would probably not want to go back, if she did, Kanika would have to convince her otherwise. What if they tried to keep her away? Kanika would go to the end of the world for her.
‘’Would you go back? Or would mother?’’ Zandala had mentioned she may still have family alive, which in any other situation would have been interesting to meet her grandmothers. But if those same grandmothers were possibly going to kill you or trap you and send you back, she’d skip on the family reunion.

‘’Only if Lumikani wants to go visit Chibale. For me, the risk is not worth the reward if I go back.’’ She was slightly worried about Zayanna, if she went back by herself and something happened to her… Zandala would absolutely take action against anyone. Surely, now that she had a child in her life, she wouldn’t take such risks. She would have to ask her, just to make sure.
‘’In any case, I do not think it will ever reach us. And in time maybe all the Alkidikes and their children will come together again.’’ It was more of a wish than a dream.

‘’Well I can only hope that they’ll leave us alone, we don’t need the Extremists finding allies to hunt us own.’’ With Pyrrha and herself talking about possible asking the tree for children soon, she didn’t want anything to come in between that. Especially not a war, you didn’t raise children like that. She wanted her children to be raised without a worry, without having to relentlessly train to make sure they could survive longer.
‘’Hopefully, they’ll just forget about us and let us live out in our own peace.’’ Live and let live, as they said. It was something all Alkidikes could learn.

‘’Only time will tell,’’ Zandala said thoughtfully. She was sure given enough time they would forgive or forget. Though now with new daughters born… There was that too, how many new of the children that many of the Elidae were now asking for at the new trees? Surely more children were a great thing, and it would bring them together instead of causing another war of some kind. Then again, it had already been a few years, and nothing had happened.
‘’We’ve had our own kind of peace for a while now. We shouldn’t be bothered with anyone else’s.’’

‘’I do have other things to worry about…’’ Kanika hadn’t told anyone yet that she and Pyrrha were considering trying for a child, perhaps now would be a good time to share some goods news with her mother.
rrha and I have been thinking of asking the tree for children.’’ Zayanna had already been blessed so she hopped they would be blessed too. ‘’We just started talking about it, but I’d like to ask for them soon.’’ It would be a big change and Kanika wouldn’t be able to travel as much, but she felt they were ready now for this next step.

‘’Kani!’’ Zandala swelled with happiness, she put her bow to the side and grabbed her daughter into a tight hug. ‘’That’s wonderful news! I’m so happy for both of you.’’ She was so happy! Zayanna had had their first grand child, and now the thought of having more made her incredibly happy.
‘’Have you told your sister or Lumi yet?’’ It hadn’t sounded like she had yet, but she also wasn’t as close to them anymore as she had been when she’d been a child, before everything had happened between the family. However, this was some good positive news and Zandala couldn’t wait to meet the little ones. If they were blessed of course.

‘’Thanks mom,’’ Kanika hugged her mother tightly before stepping back with a grin. ‘’You’re the first one I tell; I think I’ll wait to see if we’re blessed before I tell Zayanna and mother.’’ But she didn’t hide anything from Zandala and she really needed to talk about it with someone.
‘’I’ll let you know if we’re blessed, but it’s nice to share the news.’’ And it helped lift the weight of the secret, but she was sure her mother would know as soon as they did ask. Someone would tell her who was near the tree at the time they asked.

‘’I don’t think you or Pyrrha will have any trouble.’’ Zandala went back to working on her bow, feeling giddy inside. She was excited for more grandchildren, she loved seeing the little ones run around and she was sure she’d get to babysit as well.
‘’Ah this is such good news, it’ll be nice to have so many little ones running about and it’s good for the colony too.’’ Because at some point there would no longer be any Extremists or Alks in this camp, only the little ones. Just like there would only be Elidae left in the old Extremist camp some day.
