The season for tricks and treats. Belrea was astonishing in how different it could be but there did seem to be many similar holidays and seasons to the rest of Tendaji. Thankfully that included the autumn festivities and the mischievous pranks that came along with them. While Kyril wasn’t completely fond of being the target for pranks she did enjoy pulling some herself and witnessing others playing around. Kyril smirked as she reflected upon the tricks that she had pulled back in both Matori and Oba. It had been the cooler seasons and while Oba was not completely the coldest country due to its location and many deserts, there was still plenty of mischievousness to be had during the darker days. Being the oldest daughter of her family meant that she often had expectations set for being the mature one, the one to watch over her younger siblings but that was not always the case. It had only been her and Koril for several years before Cahira and the others had been born and those years without them was enough for Kyril to have some fun. Such things she had never forgotten, messing with her family as a playful daughter and pranking others in town with her Matori cousins who had helped to take care of her. They had pretended to be spirits once who roamed the shores of Matori with their moans and ghostly appearances while another time they had swapped all the sweets for sour and spicy candies instead. I miss those times. She thought sadly as she stared out across the Belrean park near the small apartment that she was staying in. Kyril had crossed overseas to learn from another glass artisan and was not planning on staying in Belrea for more than a few months but it still made her homesick. She missed her siblings, her parents and their friends back in Matori and Oba. Belrea was nice and all but it still wasn’t home. Kyril crossed her arms and settled back against the stone bench she had chosen near the center of the park. The trees were lovely here with colorful leaves that had started falling to the ground while some evergreens kept their slender greenish and silver leaves. Belreans had set up little squashes around the park with hay brought in from the countryside for decorative pieces and Kyril was delighted to see some of the larger gourds had faces carved into them. Byrone had told her that Belreans really loved this season since the harvest was over and it allowed many to just relax and share in festivities together. Some teens and younger children perhaps got a bit too excited with the downtime and pulled pranks like she had done so many times in her own past and perhaps it was watching a group of teens running about in masks, playfully scaring others, that made her so nostalgic for her own childhood.
“Though I suppose my more recent tricks were of higher class and skill.” Mused Kyril with a playful smile crossing her face. She had met a friend at a festival a few months ago and they had truly had fun messing with some nobles. Needless to say they did not mess with Kyril that much afterwards and that bright green hair would never be in season. Eventually Kryil would have to go back to Oba and face them but for now she just wanted to enjoy her trip to Belrea. If she was home and back at the workshop in Sulburi she could be pulling pranks on her mentor but she was too shy and respectful towards Byrone to mess with him. What if he truly got offended and kicked her out? She had finally started learning really cool techniques from him and actually had made colorful glass pieces for the season. The way they curved the vines from the gourds, the delicate shape of each twist and leaf that he had taught her was amazing. Not that her mentor’s skills were lacking but that she could learn from the Belrean artisans. They could learn from each other and that was why Kyril was here in the first place. She just hoped that the rest of the trip would go well and that there wouldn’t be any spooks to startle her tonight whenever she ventured back home to her little apartment.
“I guess that just means I should head back soon. Maybe I can pick up some of those spiced breads from the local bakery and share some with Byrone in the morning.” With no tricks attached of course….this time.
