Quote: Prompt 6: The little village is unnaturally empty and devoid of all life sans that which came from Destiny City. To add to the eeriness of everything, sometimes a small area will randomly feel cold and unnerving more than the rest of the town. Close investigation of the area will result in finding a small piece of weathered metal; you can just barely make out runes carved into it, but it's not large enough for you to make out anything. As soon as the metal is picked up, the mood in the area immediately fades and, oddly, you feel safer holding it. You may only find one of these per character!
Arnica had been following Remarque around for much of this adventure, and while he appreciated the guidance and the veteran Dark Mirror Senshi provided, he was going stir crazy in this spooky little village. He'd strayed a bit from the house he and Remarque had been staying in, with the intent of trying to find something useful.
Or an answer to any of the mountain questions.
His curiosity was driving him crazy and he knew he needed to at least try to figure something out.
The village itself was decrepit, and he found that he'd been somewhat overwhelmed with all of the energy signatures on his radar--but then, it wasn't like there was really anywhere to go.
...But, that just made it feel like there was more of a reason to scour every inch.
He took one step and a shiver ran down his spine; between this step and the last, the temperature felt like it had dropped ten degrees and goosebumps prickled his flesh.
He saw movement around the remnants of what he assumed to be some little storage building or shed; the roof had caved in and only one of the four walls still stood, just tall enough that he couldn't see over it. The worst part of all of it was that he couldn't tell who--or what--was behind the wall because of how overwhelmed his radar was.
He drew in a breath, balled up his fist, and asked, "Who's there?"

Lacerta hadn't had much luck in finding a way out of this decrepit village and had all but given up hope of locating one as time passed. Besides the first day in which Lacerta had been almost overwhelmed by the entire gathering and all the powered signatures that had been grouped in such a limited area. Since then the newly made super dark moon senshi had kept mainly to herself. She knew that there were other DMS senshi trapped in here like she was but she was not quite sure of how they'd react. Thinking back on Melpomene - that meeting had been pleasant enough - possibly scuttled her own reasoning but she was still nervous.
Thus she had settled into a house on her own and been keeping a low profile until being drawn out of her little hovel. Something seemed off and no matter how much she tried to ignore it the pull to investigate was too strong. The senshi of bandages had been noting the random cold patches and had thought nothing of it but the eeriness coupled with the cold was enough to have the senshi out and investigating.
Her wanderings took her into the forest and although she was keen to keep her senses on full alert there was something out roaming the forest at night and though it wasn't evening yet, the hairs on the back of her neck were raised in alert.
It wasn't until a voice hailed out of the blue with a "Who's there?" that Lacerta realized just how far she had travelled from the village. Although apprehensively the aura of the caller was that of her own faction and she tensed before relaxing. She had nothing to hide and thus she would not. Straightening and trying to ignore the unease in the air she moved forward. Her voice was steady as she replied to the unseen caller, "just someone else stuck in here too."

Arnica tensed when he saw movement and for a brief second he seemed braced for confrontation--and then recognition crossed his face.
She was a Dark Mirror Senshi. And a human. Not a monster.
The chill and unease lingered in the air, but he found some reassurance simply because it wasn't her.
"Oh," he exhaled, and nodded, visibly relieved. "Sorry, you startled me. I don't know what I was expecting. Not another Dark Mirror Senshi." He offered a quick, apologetic smile, and held out his hand. "Arnica, hi."
He paused, though, and there was something on his expression. Like, he thought he recognized her from somewhere. From something. It was niggling, nagging at the back of his mind, and the confusion might have been obvious on his face as he held out his hand. His lips remained pursed as he looked her over, trying to figure out what what was so familiar about a Dark Mirror Senshi he knew he'd never met. Briefly, he thought or carnival music, but he shook his head to dismiss the thought.

Well well well. This was interesting. Lacerta bit back the chuckle that she wanted to give as Arnica introduced himself. It seemed as if he did not exactly recognize just who she was. Grasping the hand that was offered in a handshake Lacerta gave a fleeting smile to the other senshi. It would have to suffice for now. The feeling of uneasiness once again settled over her shoulders like an unwelcome blanket and she frowned before glancing around and gave her arms a brisk rubbing. "Nice to meet you - again - Arnica." She had stressed the word "again" on purpose just to see if there was any reaction from Arnica.
Upon realizing how cryptic that might sound to the other dark mirror Lacerta give a rueful smile. Her voice was soft before she cast a glance around the woods. Something was definitely out there - or it seemed like something was - and she didn't appreciate the feeling one bit. "I only say again because I remember you from before. You see - we've met before. I guess you might not recognize me now," and she broke off before simply giving her name, "I'm Lacerta."
Would this senshi remember the white moon version of her allying with him in that strange shadow realm from last Halloween, or would he assume that he'd met her someplace else? Whatever happened though Lacerta was beginning to sense that Arnica had the right assumption about this forest. Nodding more to herself than anything she grimaced and spoke in a hushed tone, "don't blame you for being jumpy though. There's just something about this place that gives me the creeps as well."

Again? Arnica was quickly processing what again could be when she explained, and he exhaled, relieved. "Oh, okay. I thought you looked familiar. But I've remembered every Dark Mirror Senshi I've met, and--" he gestured. "Well, look at you, this is a change! Welcome!"
Though, he hadn't really come very far since the last time he'd met her, and a part of him realized that perhaps he felt a bit guilty about that. Remarque hadn't said anything negative about it, but Arnica couldn't help but wonder.
Life hadn't given him so very many opportunities to be out, doing this, but he was trying.
"...I'm glad it's you. We made it through one weird thing together, so maybe we'll make it through this one too, right?" He cracked a grin, but there was a bit of seriousness that didn't quite leave his eyes. "...This whole place is cold. Dropped ten degrees for no reason. But there's no breeze or anything. Makes me suspicious."
He was looking around, eyeing the rubble, all the places things could hide behind.
"...You find any other cold spots in the village?"

Lacerta gave a wan smile at Arnica's remembrance of her before letting it erupt into a larger smile at his enthusiastic welcome. She was glad that so far it seemed that other dark mirror senshi were accepting her and it made her realize just what she had been missing amongst her old faction. Twisting the ring on her finger absently Lacerta was drawn out of her musings by Arnica's asking if she had found any other cold spots and she frowned. She hadn't noticed anything out of the ordinary but since being brought to this strange place she hadn't ventured too far out of the dwelling she had claimed as her own for however long it was that they were here for.
Even as she stuck close to her chosen abode she only ventured out when it seemed like no one else was around and she kept her excursions brief.
"No, I haven't really noticed much since arriving here but I haven't got out much - mostly by choice. I've been keeping a low profile in case there are others who remember the old me although I don't know if that is possible. Didn't have much ties to the White Moon. But no, I don't think I've experienced anything yet ... besides now of course."
And even as she was speaking she rubbed at her arms again. It had gotten really cold in the last little while and she glanced to Arnica, "what about you?"

"I showed up with Remarque," Arnica explained, "And it turns out, he's a busy body. So I felt like I had to get out and look around too. But...haven't really felt cold spots except for here. Which makes me suspicious, but." He shrugged. "Back in Destiny City, I work with 'The Dark Side of Destiny City'. I don't know if you've heard of it, it's this psuedo-conspiracy theory group. They're always trying to investigate the supernatural, paranormal, weird things in Destiny City. A lot of it is, honestly, crap. I didn't believe in any of it when I first started working there, and I might not if I hadn't gotten roped into the Dark Mirror Court."
He knew he was getting a little off topic, but he felt like it was important to stress that he wasn't crazy. "Anyway, there are a lot of 'professionals' who go out and do investigations and then we cover their findings, or go out with them while they're doing their 'research'." It was clear he had a hard time putting much faith into things.
"...I've felt cold spots before, though. Usually there's some explanation--an air vent, water underground." He kicked at the ground a bit, but he hadn't seen or heard any traces of water outside of the well in the village. "...They say cold spots usually mean 'something supernatural'. And I got a weird feeling as soon as I got here. But I'm thinking maybe that's just paranoia, because you're the only ghost I've found, and you're clearly alive. How are you holding up since joining? ...If anyone gives you trouble, you should come find me. Or Remarque. He won't let anyone mess with you."

Upon hearing Arnica mention the group that he was with Lacerta gave her head a small shake. There may have been a moment in passing that the name of the group had come up in her past but if it had - she had already forgotten about it. She wore a bit of a puzzled expression before it morphed into something of interest. "While I'm not sure I'd be into that sort of thing from before - maybe it'd be something to look into now. It sounds intriguing. How does one go about investigating?"
At Arnica's voiced thoughts of finding nothing that registered as supernatural, sans her, she had to chuckle. "Yes, clearly I'm alive and thus not a ghost. As for your other question. I can't say there aren't days when I just want to punch something because I've not met many other dark mirrors except a few, and generally I repeat the same ones, I'm making out alright. It's not been the easiest route to go but I'm hanging in there. One thing I appreciate is that everyone I know is looking out for me ..."
Casting her gaze around at the wooded area Lacerta once more had the unnerving feeling that something was amiss. Just what was it that was causing these sensations? Looking down at the ground for a moment Lacerta caught the slightest glimmer of something but the next moment she was wondering if her eyes were playing tricks on her.

Arnica tilted his head when Lacerta seemed distracted by something. He looked towards the ground, at whatever seemed to have caught her attention.
“You find something?” he prompted, because he couldn’t help but be interested in solving this mystery since it seemed a little more real than the garbage mysteries of Destiny City.
“If you’ve got this much on investigations, you should definitely come with me now and again. Maybe we might find some tangible evidence. The whole investigating thing is a little bogus. I mean, it’s kinda funny sometimes. It’s something you have to just do if you want to know what it’s like. You’ll think I’m crazy if I just describe it. When we get out of here, I’ll make sure you’ve got my number. Maybe we can meet up some time and I’ll be able to just show you.”
