Yunan was experimenting in the kitchen that he had rented out from the innkeeper. Thankfully it was evening so most of the customers had retired for the day and the workers had already cleared out from the main kitchen that served the cafe on the first floor. Yunan had taken the secondary kitchen, an older room from the original structure of the inn, and was currently trying to make some sweets based off of the recipes he had taken from Nasrin during his visit towards the southern area of the continent. Their encounter had been pleasant and very successful for Yunan who had been given herbal notes and medical journals from Nasrin’s father who had studied such things for years. The geian had even ventured across into Tendaji to study their unique herbs which further benefited Yunan for his future business. A very beneficial thing indeed. His amber gaze looked towards the leather bound journals that were in the stachel resting across the room. He kept them close so that he could study while the little cakes would be baking. Baking. Yunan’s lips curved upwards in what could appear as more of a sneer than a grin but there was some actual amusement in his gaze. Who would have thought that he would be baking sweets when he should be working towards opening his medical store in Belrea? Still, he had people to meet and little gifts like these would prove useful. Not only that but he didn’t trust many to work with recipes as he did before opening the store. If he could rely on the recipes given to him from Nasrin’s family then that would greatly expedite his goal of having unique flavors and medicines at his store.
Grabbing one of the larger wooden bowls, Yunan began to mix the flower along with the sugar and other spices he had picked up in the market earlier that day. Getting the dry mix together allowed him to add in the wet mix, eggs and milk along with local honey, and soon enough he had his spiced cake batter ready for the oven. It was perfect considering the harvest season and he hoped that the extra floral ingredients along with the Belrean spices would work pleasantly together to tease and delight someone’s taste buds. “This spice is similar to the one in Oba.” He mused as he held up a clear vial and studied the orangish brown powder inside. That along with the amber honey harvested by locals in southern Belrea should make his cakes truly shine. Yunan chuckled quietly at the thought before placing the vial back down and moving towards the journals resting on the table by the doorway. “Spiced cakes and then there’s the pollen cakes…” He mused as he looked over the notes on the top journal. These were more common food recipes but beneath all of that rested the medical knowledge gathered over the last two decades by Nasrin’s father. It had taken a few coins but not nearly as many as Yunan had originally thought and he was thankful to the family for trusting him with their knowledge. If he weren’t in Belrea then perhaps he would be more wary of accepting such help but it seemed that so far any competition was in hiding and did not know about his potential business. That was a relief but Yunan also hoped that such things didn’t make him too relaxed and lazy. When he returned to Oba business would be back to usual and he would have to keep an eye on those in the shadows waiting for him to make one false move. The thought made the hybrid frown and he quickly closed the book with a sigh.
“It is what it is.” He just had to focus on his shop and getting that bard to attract a crowd. The thought made his frown deepen as he opened the book again and thumbed through the recipes. How did those flower cakes work again? Yunan figured he should at least try those as well while he had the down time to do so. He could perhaps even bring some to that damn bard so that he could try them out and maybe even share them with Yunan’s intended date for the upcoming performance. It would be a good way to make certain that the Matori wasn’t trying to slip away from their potential deal. Yunan was determined to get that contract after all so that he could get some benefit from the bard. He would just have to work his charm on some people first…..but that would come after he finished making these cakes of course.
