[ Zayana 1 ]
Zayana was surprised to hear the news at the port. She was traveling with Nayyara, helping her daughter see the world and understand the area before she needed to go back and train with her sisters. It was a normal trip for the two, and Zayana felt confident enough to train her daughter while they traveled. They would move toward the coast, exploring the swamp and riverlands, before heading back. It also gave them a chance to hunt.
While resting, they saw a sister come ashore with news. It seemed that Elzira was sick, but cured and now able to bloom once more. That was concerning, but Zayana was happy the tree seemed to be fine. It was the other news that surprised her.
The mystic from Chibale was in Zinris. When she left, it meant peace between the warring lands.
Zayana was surprised. She was raised to hate the mainland Alks, but it seemed now times were changing.

[Nayarra - 1]
Nayarra loved to travel with her mother. Sure, she also spent time with her aunties and secretly loved seeing Pyrrah the most, but her time with Zayana was amazing too. She lived and thrived on the experience, and knew if she was good it meant eventually they could travel across the sea. Her mother always promised to take her on the trip when she went back to get her mount.
Nayarra was most excited about that. She wanted to see the bigger mother tree and see the cousins that she was related to. She hoped that someday that would happen.
As they made way to the port, the girl had to cover herself to keep out of sight of the locals. She stayed back while her mother got a note, but didn't fail to notice the surprise.
As her mother returned, she looked up and asked "Momma, is something wrong?"

Zayana was grateful her daughter was dutiful and calm. She probably got it from her grandparents. Or simply the fact she had such a doting extended family. She hoped Nayarra would be a steady force on the future Elidae tribe. So far, she felt like she was training her daughter to both be a strong sister and appreciate the lands around them.
She led her daughter away from the village and toward a clearing, before sitting her down and pulling down the hood of her cloak.
"Everything is fine, my strong flower." She reassured and brushed her dark teal dreds, "I simply received news from the mainland about the other Aishans. Your Cousins."

She kept quiet as they walked away, understanding and trusting her mother would tell her when it was time. She was used to this type of movement, normally they had to go somewhere quiet to discuss or hunt. She knew if she was good, she'd get the answers. If she wanted to be playful, she needed to just spend time with her sisters.
"My cousins? Are we able to visit them finally? I really, really, REALLY want to visit Elzira!" She replied with excited, bright eyes.

Zayana placed a calming hand on her daughter's head, smiling softly before taking on a serious face.
"Not quite, flower. Soon enough we'll make it over, but you'll need to be patient for a little longer. I have other news instead."
She leaned back, looking up at the trees above them and glad the shade helped protect their eyes. Her ears and antennae took a moment to sense anyone listening. Satisfied, she looked back to her daughter.
"Elzira was sick for awhile. The sisters did not know what to do, so they sought help from the Chibale Alkidikes. You remember how I told you that they aren't very friendly, and that's why we came to Kahikina?"

She sat prim on the edge of the stump, watching and waiting for her mother to tell the story and showing an excited wiggle when she was once more promised to go to Yael. She wanted to go and see the warriors, to see if there were any young Elaria her age there. She wanted to explore the swamps and see their mountain of fire.
But she became a bit quiet when her mother said Elzira was sick.
"I didn't know the great mothers could get sick..." She bemoaned, "I'm so glad she's better...I can't imagine..." Her eyes teared up slightly. But she nodded at her mother's question, "They didn't like the outsiders, or the earthlings. They wouldn't agree with being friends with the water breathers."

Zayana watched with a solemn expression her daughter's reaction. She believed in telling her daughter as much as she could - honesty was important in their family after everything that happened. Her mothers insisted that nothing be hidden, and Zayana felt that she needed to do the same for her daughter. Honesty would make them stronger.
"That's right. Aisha was able to bloom children that were half Aishan, half Earthling. Many felt that it weakened their mother, and so they left to protect a new one. It caused a lot of pain, and both your grandmothers were ones who chose to left. Though they left to protect a mystic...and felt that some took it too far."
She paused, "Eventually, new mystics were bloomed, and they met together to help heal Elzira. Through this meeting, they decided enough was enough and wanted to have peace among the Aishans."

Nayarra was still as her eyes looked wide up at her mother. The story was whispered, but never told in such detail. Most only talked about fleeing yet again, but didn't explain why they fled the first time. She knew her grandmother was often quiet because of what happened before. She never wanted to ask, and now she was glad she didn't push it before.
"Does that mean all of the Aishans are now working together again?" she asked again, tilting her head. She knew it would be hard to visit her cousins, but she always wanted to visit them at some point. To travel Tendaji and see the world and the great trees was her dream.

She pursed her lips at the question, before smiling a little sadly.
"It's hard to say. Many people find it hard to change suddenly. I'm sure there are a few who don't agree...but won't question their mystics. I do believe that this makes it easier for us to visit the other trees..." She reassured. Maybe she could ask her mothers and sisters to go visit Aisha and the other tree in Belrea. It was novel to think about, the freedom to travel.
She made to stand.
"Let's go, little one. We've got to get back into the swamp if we want to make it to camp before sundown."

Nayarra obediently stood up, understanding they needed to travel through the swamps once more. She wished they could camp in the town, but there still was little trust between the Aishans on the Isle and those who lived on the mainland. They were fine with the waterfolk, but the earthling and Aishan visitors still had little trust with the runaways.
"I would love to visit the other trees! I want to see the new tree just like Esena!" she chirped up after a little bit, tugging on her mother's hand, "Can we go soon?"

As they approached the camp, Zayana looked down at her daughter and pondered over the question. They began to set up the fire and her daughter was patient, used to waiting for a response thanks to Lumikani's long contemplation.
Finally, as she pulled out the fish to cook, she turned to her daughter, "It is still too early to travel such a distance. But someday I wish to see the trees as well. Let's make a trip when we are both ready, to pay our respects to our cousins. Who knows, we might learn something new along the way."

Her hands moved quickly through her tasks, familiar with the simple process that her mother taught her from a young age. If she wanted to travel, she needed to constantly prove that she was up for the challenge. With her tongue between her teeth, she prepared the sticks for the fish and listened to her mother.
Snapping her head to the side, her green eyes were bright and surprised, "Really? Together?!" She gasped out, stepping away from the fire and moving to hug her mother, "Yes, please oh please!"

She smiled down to her daughter, proud of the open mindedness that the young girl had to the world around her. She couldn't wait to see what would become of the curious and patent Aishan child. Her hands wrapping around the small girl, Zayana laughed and appreciated the warmth of spending time with her offspring, a young bloom that stood for so much in this world.
It reminded her of how her mothers described them as young kids, and she couldn't wait to see how Nayyara grew.
"Make sure to keep doing your tasks, and when it's time, we'll go." she patted her on her head, before looking over, "Better hurry, those sticks look like they might burn."

She settled into the hug for a moment, before her mother's words cut in. Gasping, she turned to see the sticks had fallen into the fire and were glowing a bright red. Scrambling over, she blew on them before realizing it was a lost cause and throwing them into the swampy water.
Sheepishly, she turned to her mother before being shooed off to fetch new sticks. Shaking her head, she rushed off, her smile hidden behind her hand as she grew excited at the future opportunities to see the world. Thank goodness there was peace, it meant she had a chance that wasn't there before.
