Quote:
Prompt 6: The little village is unnaturally empty and devoid of all life sans that which came from Destiny City. To add to the eeriness of everything, sometimes a small area will randomly feel cold and unnerving more than the rest of the town. Close investigation of the area will result in finding a small piece of weathered metal; you can just barely make out runes carved into it, but it's not large enough for you to make out anything. As soon as the metal is picked up, the mood in the area immediately fades and, oddly, you feel safer holding it. You may only find one of these per character!

Run.

It echoed through her mind again, and again, and again, until she began to suspect that it would remain there forever. Even though she knew that she wasn't blamed it still didn't make it any easier. She should have known better, she did know better, and yet she had lost track of time and the consequences had been dire. In an instant it had been over, with the roar of one man against a seemingly invulnerable entity, she had fled and as she had, she'd lost one of her most important allies.

Suffice to say that he had never come back when the sun had risen and even though they'd searched in the days that followed, there had been no sign of him.

Now she wandered alone with her hands clasped in front of her, her eyes cast down towards the ground as she picked her way through the more weathered region of the town. No one would find safety in this part of the town, the buildings simply hadn't survived and there was nowhere to hide, but that didn't mind that supplies couldn't be found.

While she hadn't given up her search entirely, the supplies were her main reason for being here today. Their safe haven's food had run low and as a result they needed to restock. She wasn't entirely sure of what she wanted to look for but in the end it was highly likely she would pick up whatever she saw as useful regardless of how boring it might seem.

She hadn't expected company, but it wasn't uncommon for people to cross paths in this town and she wouldn't have been surprised if someone did come her way in time...

Vela was out wandering looking for anything she could find that would be useful. They had all been stuck here for so long and it was just a day to day struggle to get by. Food that could cause you to see things, nights with monsters clawing at the door. Fight and you might go missing. It all really sucked and every day she was here she was losing money since she couldn't work. She might have to repeat her school year since she had missed so much time she might never catch up. She grumbled this sucked so much.

She saw someone up ahead of her, at this point Vela didn't care if they were order or chaos it didn't matter anymore nothing mattered really. The only thing that mattered to her was getting home, which didn't seem very likely. "Hey." She called out in greeting. Vela had long orange hair marking her as a corrupt senshi. Her hair was a lot shorter in her civ. form but that was neither here nor there since she had been stuck as Vela since they got here. She didn't have a choice in the matter, it seemed no one did in this place.

Shaowei paused mid-step as the unfamiliar voice caught her ear; they may have arrived at the same time but Vela hadn't been someone she'd crossed paths with before. Or rather, if they had crossed paths then neither had been struck with an inclination to introduce themselves at the time... But in the end after being here for three weeks it seemed that new encounters were largely inevitable.

A small, though weak smile, lifted on to the Mirror Senshi's lips and after a moment she turned round to look at the one who had entered her vicinity. It didn't take her long to work out what Vela was, the crack on the forehead wasn't exactly difficult to see and even if she couldn't sense auras, she would have recognised the signs.

"Morning," she offered in return, softly and not nearly as enthusiastic as she would have liked to be, but weeks in this area had taken a little bit of a toll on her optimism.

"Seems like everyone might be out shopping this morning," she jested weakly and cleared her throat. "Or at least I saw a fair number of people doing the same thing as me so I imagine it's about that time of the week to restock," she added.

"Not that I've found anything useful yet myself, but something will turn up eventually, it usually does..."

Vela sighed listening to the other person talking. "I wish there wasn't a time of week for anything, we shouldn't have been here long enough to get things down, we should have all been back home by now. But yea you are right I need to find food and supplies as well." There was no other choice they had to keep going and keep trying even if everything sucked. Food, water, shelter. Things they needed to survive. "I'm Vela." She said with a nod and a small smile. "I haven't found anything yet either." She said continued walking waiting for the other person to say more.

"We shouldn't have," Shaowei agreed and. She'd gotten passed her original frustration at the situation she found herself in but she could still acknowledge that others still had to work through it. Hell, it was safe to say that when it came to some of those she lived with currently, they were still in a fairly resentful mood and a veritable thundercloud.

"But even if it shouldn't be this way it is so I thought it best to be constructive," she admitted. Her smile was warm, but it seemed this woman was fairly practical and rather than feel 'sorry' for herself she had at least attempted to make the best of it when and where she was able. This didn't mean that she wasn't put out and on occasions she didn't feel overwhelmed or upset by her predicament, but if she gave in to it then she'd be a useless mess.

"I'm Shaowei," she said finally and motioned for Vela to come closer. "Not quite the same as you I'm learning but we're still related in some shape or form," she motioned to the 'costume'. Others may not have agreed with her but as Shaowei had yet to see the true face of either side of the war she only saw the similarities between Senshi... They were all powered and all possessed magic, to her they were the same in some respects.

"Not sure how much we'll find out here though I think this side was raided pretty well a couple of weeks ago, but I needed condiments and most people don't bother with those," she chuckled. "Salt is very important, it's best I claim it before they have that revelation," she jested.

"I'll share of course, but we did run out recently and everything is a bit questionable even at the best of times so I'll do anything to make it less bland."

Vela nodded it would be pretty weird to meet someone who wanted to stay in this village and never go home, there really wasn't much here. No real stores, or schools, tv, music, internet. There were a lot of things that Vela missed back at home. She listened to Shaowei talking and she nodded "Yea I'm sure a lot of things have already been found, salt is a good idea salt has been used for a really long time to preserve stuff. So even if this place is based off like the Salem witch trials or something we should still be able to find salt." Salt was a really good idea and it made a lot of things taste better, not to mention helped things to keep from spoiling so fast. Vela rubbed the back of her head "Yea I had some roasted apples once and that didn't go too well, but what choice do we have?"

"I made stew and someone ended up with purple bubbles popping out of their ears," Shaowei confessed, her smile deepening. Suffice to say that she'd been rather shocked by that one but it did seem that the poor Senshi had been all right in the long run. Last time she'd checked she'd still been alive and the bubbles had gone away after a while.

"So long as it just sticks to bubbles rather than any that may be more unpleasant I'll consider that a win," she added and shook her head. She wasn't a bad cook, in fact in normal circumstances she made a fairly decent meal, but when it came to this place the added challenge of ensuring she didn't unintentionally kill anyone was a touch stressful!

"Technically you can use salt for spells of protection as well if that's your inclination," she continued, picking her way through the ruins carefully and entering one of the less maintained houses. "Though I'd admit I'd much prefer you use the salt for cooking rather than to use it for something that isn't guaranteed to work," she murmured.

...Although now that she thought about it, a little bit of protection wouldn't have actually gone a miss and if she [i[could find something spare, then maybe she could use it.

She gave a shiver as she stepped inside, the house much colder than the outdoors had been, odd to say the least but weird things just seemed to be a natural way of life here.

Vela laughed "Well that is certainly a different take on dinner." She nodded and then said "Yea as long as you can live through it I call it a win if the food starts killing people I'm going out hunting." She didn't care order or chaos food shouldn't kill the eater period. Vela considered that. "Huh wonder if a circle of salt while cooking would help make the food around here more safe to make and eat. I've heard a circle of salt is good for protection." She nodded "Yea no guarantee since as far as I know it's just a myth, just hey we are in a village that shouldn't be able to be here, why not witches and mummies?"

"If you can find anything alive," she murmured and released a delicate sigh. Suffice to say she'd seen more than one person try and no matter how often they went or how many of them there were, they always returned with the same news. In the end she shouldn't have been surprised, with no bird song in the air this was usually an ominous sign and even scavengers were non existent despite the abandoned supplies.

"Worth attempting the salt trick though," she conceded with a lifted brow. Genuinely, she had to wonder if it would work, or if in the end, they would be stuck with the same old bland or otherwise questionable food with largely unpredictable side effects.

A moment passed by as she sifted through more debris and then she furrowed her brow. Something was glinting under between the slats of the floorboard and it was unlike anything she had ever seen here before. She'd been in a lot of houses and until now nothing had shone quite like this had. It didn't take her long to bend down and prod at the gap in the floorboard until she could finally fish it out.

...What came to reside in her palm though seemed nothing more than an oddly shaped piece of metal. It didn't seem special, but at the same time it had a rather odd influence over here. For all intents and purposes as she turned it over in her hand she felt just a little better and she had to raise a brow.

A pause and she shook her head.

"This must've come from one massive mirror."

Vela nodded and she shivered a little "Yea this place is creepy spooky music, but I haven't seen any birds or squirrels or anything natural. She tilted her head to the side "Why do you say it game from a mirror?" She asked curiously. She looked at the piece of metal and then started to look around to see if she could find a piece for herself. Who knew maybe it would be useful for something. She wondered if it would work for defending against fog creatures or the creature she had heard was taking members of the village. After digging around a bit Vela came up with another piece of the metal and she held it up to compare to Shaowei's. "Do you think this was a mirror, not a wage wheel or something? Sword piece?" She frowned "What other stuff did old villages have?"

"Honestly I've no idea," she admitted after a moment and twirled the shard in her fingertips. She was surprisingly agile with it, even to herself, but she supposed endless office hours of twirling a pen had its uses. Vela's question was fair though and she couldn't really guarantee where it came from, or produce any viable evidence to support her theory.

"Place seems a little young for swords to have been super common though," she continued and pursed her lips thoughtfully. "If only because we have plumbing and for the most part they didn't have any of that back then," she said with a small chuckle.

...The idea of the wheel though was a curious one.

"It could probably even be from a pot to be fair, just a very polished one," she smiled wryly and peered around the floor. "Maybe there's more pieces? We might be able to stick it back together if we can find some more," she continued.

A pause and she eyed Vela for a moment or two.

"Right now a 3D Puzzle would be moderately more interesting than some of the other choices I have to keep myself busy," she pointed out.

Vela sighed "Wish we knew more, but hey what are you gonna do, I guess we just have to roll with it and hope we can get back home soon so we don't have to worry about it anymore." She looked at the metal piece and then nodded "Sure why not, we can look for more pieces or ask people around the village and see if we can put the pieces together and see what it once was." She was curious at this point and wanted to figure this out. She wasn't really sure what else to say at the moment. So she just kept walking and looking for metal pieces.

"I'll take getting home over solving a mystery," she chuckled softly.

"That's a good idea though, if there's more of this stuff then maybe we can figure it out as a group," she slipped the shard into her sleeve, waiting until she felt the weight drop down a safe distance away from anywhere sensitive on her person. It was only when she was sure that she wouldn't stab herself that she returned her attention to helping with the search.

"Don't think any of the ones I've been staying with have found one but you never know," she clucked her tongue. "Some of them don't really mention anything unless they think it's useful," she mused and glanced briefly over her shoulder towards the building. "Maybe they though it was junk, but there are bound to be more people like us who are a little like magpies eh?" she finished.

"Going to assume your folks haven't really mentioned anything either?"

...If she was even staying with someone, she wasn't sure if everyone had taken the communal option.

Vela laughed "Well that is fair, there are no good snacks in this place." She made a sour face. She nodded "Yea chaos and order don't seem to mean much while we are all stuck here, so might as well ask anyone and everyone if they have found metal pieces. Who knows maybe they will help us get out if we have enough." She shook her head "Nope Cybele hasn't mentioned finding any metal pieces to me I'll ask when I get back to the house." She continued looking around and then stood up. "Well might as well head back to the village and ask around, are you coming back now too or continuing to search?" She asked.

Oh, Cybele, she knew that name!

"Sounds like a plan," she agreed. She could always meet up with Vela again later after she'd had the chance to ask the group she was staying with. Suffice to say that between cats, Dark Mirror Senshi and Order senshi, she had more than a few people to prod. She could at least rely upon them all to be open and honest about what they'd found even if they didn't necessarily know what she was up to.

"I'm going to stick around for a little longer, I did say I'd be looking for some specific condiments so I'd best see if I can't make progress on that," she confessed with a wry smile. "But if you want to head back now and start investigating I'll catch up and we can pool our intel when we've had a chance to ask everyone," she offered.

The town was small enough that it wouldn't take her long to find Vela again, especially if the corrupt was expecting her...and who knew, maybe they could solve a mystery or two. Goodness knows a little bit of good news could go a long way for everyone.
