Quote:
Confronting the Creature (2) : This plot can only be pursued by players that have fought the creature and lost. After you are knocked unconscious, you will awaken in a dark cellar full of cobwebs, stale water, and darkness. A faint gray glow barely illuminates the room and seems to have no source; there is a crate of vegetables and fruit to sustain you but no one ever refills the crate, it simply seems to have enough for whoever is needed. There are a few bowls, and a trickle of water through cracks in the wall; it sounds as though there may be a river very close. The room is cold and has no window; it can be inferred that it is underground, as there are steps that appear to lead up but the door is shut so heavily it is impossible to break down. Every night, the fog rolls in and for a short period of time everyone falls unconscious. The creature only comes and goes during this period of time, and it will leave all fallen warriors down here. The cellar feels almost like a dungeon, though there are no shackles or cells. You can interact with newcomers or deal with the fog or try to force your way out, but the cellar seems too sturdy to escape. The cellar is predominantly only a single large room, however there are hidden, connected chambers where prisoners may wind up (if you prefer your character to have less interaction). You cannot teleport in or out of the cellar once you are captured!

There was not much to do in the cellar.

Every few hours, Cybele would give the door a few kicks just in case it had weakened somehow over time. She would eat a piece of fruit when the hunger got so intense that she could barely stand it. She slept when her eyelids grew heavy.

The rest of the time, she watched things. She watched the door, wondering if someone would find them, or if the monster would ever open it and give them a chance to slip out. Sometimes, she watched drops of water trickling down the walls. Of course, she watched the people, too. They were mostly just sleeping and eating and staring at the walls the same way that she was, but it still felt important to know just who she was sharing this small space with.

At one point, she spotted a familiar face, and she made her way over. "Hello," she said, and then paused, eyebrows knitting. "I never caught your name, did I?" They'd been more focused on the metal disk than on each other when they'd met before. "You ended up here, as well?"

The thing he hated most about the cell, other than the total lack of freedom and small amount of food, was just how uncomfortable it was. He was thankful they weren't in chains so that was good, but only made the situation slightly better. And most of the time he could only sleep, eat, and try as discreetly as he could to use the bathroom.

This was why he lived alone. Among the many other reasons.

Eventually though, a familiar face caught his eye, and he realized it was that foggy-minded Corrupted Senshi that he had worked with for only a few hours. He sighed as she made her way over as he was doing some basic push-ups. It wasn't good for conserving energy, but they could barely move around anyway.

He sighed when she addressed him. "Hey." It wasn't her fault for his sigh, it just reminded him that they were on the same team. "No, I don't believe we really introduced ourselves." Not something he had cared about doing at the time. Now though, they had all the time in the world it seemed. "I'm Geocronite. Captain." He hated the rank, the name. He just wanted to be rid of it. "I got caught in the wrong place at the wrong time and here I am." He said, lazily waving his hand around as he laid down. "I see that you're here." He chuckled. "What's your name?"

It was difficult to quite make out in the darkness, but, yes. He was doing push-ups. Cybele did raise an eyebrow at that, although it was not out of judgement. Keeping up one's strength was one way to feel a bit more normal, and any endorphins that someone could find here would be welcome ones.

It just made the bruises in her low back hurt that much more to watch him. They complained every time she so much as shifted, and although she pushed through it for her occasional attempts at escape, she did not think that she would be exercising any time soon.

"Nice to meet you, Captain Geocronite," she said in a practiced tone. She even smiled, although it may not have been particularly visible in the darkness. "I'm Cybele, of The Hunt." The Corrupt and Eternal went unsaid. That had been obvious enough at their first meeting.

She glanced up towards the trapdoor, her practiced smile fading. "Yes. After we met, I did not find anything else that seemed useful for getting us out of here. It was only seeming more and more clear that it was the monster keeping us here, so I went to kill it." She swallowed and shifted a bit so her back had more support. "I lost that fight."

Geo grunted as he stopped his push-up reps. He could only do so much without knowing if he was going to have food for energy later. He pushed his back up against the wall, deciding to sit against it. "Cybele..." He could have sworn he had heard that name before. Where was it... he would have to look it up later. But he had heard it before. "Of the Hunt? What powers does that give you then?" He had to admit that he was a bit jealous of Corrupt Senshi. Even if they didn't have weapons like Agents did, but they had magic and the ability to teleport as well. It still felt as though they had the advantage. Perhaps that was why others hated them so much?

"I don't blame you." Of the Hunt seemed to fit what she did. "You can only do so much before you feel like nothing is happening and want to do something, anything to fix it." At least that was how he felt. He couldn't just sit around and do noting. It was why he often went rock-climbing and camping out in the woods. Even if it didn't fix anything, it was better than sitting around in his rented cabin. And leather-working when he did have to stay stuck inside.

"You have anything you do for fun? Anything you're looking forward to when we get back to Destiny City?" Nothing to do but get to know each other down here now.

"My magic sort of helps people focus in on their quarry," she said. At least, something in her gut told her that that was what it was meant to do. It certainly made everything feel crisp and crystal clear when she used it on herself, and it made her faster, but she hadn't had the chance to use it on an actual hunt yet.

The monster had been too quick.

"I have an attack, as well. Arrows." She mimed drawing the string of a bow back to her ear. "It wasn't enough to break the door, though. I tried." Her voice went a bit flat at that. She hadn't defeated the monster. She hadn't defeated the door. All that was left to do was sit and wait to find out why it was that they'd been kept alive. Cybele didn't hate being down here, the way others seemed to, but she did find herself wishing that she'd been more useful.

There was a moment of silence after his second question. "I'm not sure," she said, slowly. "I lost my memory and identity when I was brought over." Her tone was still matter-of-fact, the same as when she'd been talking about her magic. "That was only about a month before we ended up here, and I spent a lot of that time settling in, in the barracks. I was starting to go out into the city a little more. I found some cats, once, in an alleyway. They were very sick."

They'd been all skin and bones, and yet they'd come up to her mewling as if they were asking for help. That had been one of the few things she'd seen so far that had really made her heart melt. "I think I'd like to find a way to help them," she said, a bit quieter. "But I'm also very open to suggestions on things to do."

"Focus huh? That would be nice to have that type of magic to use in other areas like studying or paying attention in class." He replied, chuckling a bit. "I don't know why other Agents don't like you Senshi, but I am a bit jealous. While we do have our weapons, mine aren't that great, a couple of carpenter knives. But you can do something that an ordinary human can't. Which is pretty amazing. While Agents can summon weapons, it's not as though an ordinary human can't wield a knife." He wasn't sure if what he was saying was making sense. His brain had been a bit blurred due to the boredom and being stuck with nothing to do other than talk and exercise.

"Arrows too. That's awesome." He smiled at her, though he doubted she could see it in the dark. "I don't know what's with this place or why the monster is smart enough to keep us here, but I'm not surprised that it failed. Appreciate you trying, but if the monster knows about this place, there's probably something keeping us down here." He didn't care too much though. It may have been boring as heck but at least it was better than struggling to go and find supplies each day. "Just hope it doesn't attack us when we're knocked out..." He muttered.

He looked at her suddenly. "Lost your memory?" Something was wrong with that. Why had they taken in a Senshi that he had never heard about, even after doing a few scrolls of names in the database, who was a higher level than he was, in? It didn't add up. But he decided not to talk to her about it. He was sure there were others in here who would love to hear about him questioning her. It wasn't the time.

"Well, if you can find a place in the civilian world and have the resources, you could foster them so that they can get big and strong and then be adopted out. Or you could take them to a shelter to drop them off and they'll find a way to take care of them. A no-kill one at least. There are a few ways you can help them." He was glad that she found something. Something to focus on that wasn't all of this powered stuff. He shrugged. "I could suggest a lot of things, and I have my own things that I do, but with you losing your memory, I'm not sure if they would be the best. Still, if you wanted to go camping together. Though we can bring two tents." He didn't think she would want to share one with a virtual stranger.

"We each have our pros and cons," said Cybele, in a tone of voice that suggested that she was reciting something that had been explained to her. "My magic is useful, but it does not last very long. I only get one shot with the arrows, and then it is back to my fists. You get solid steel."

Not that it would hold her back. The Order senshi and the knights did not have steel weapons, or the ability to take starseeds. She could take them down with her fists if she needed to. Still, at the mention of knives, she glanced back towards the trapdoor that had been occupied most of her thoughts for the past hours. "Carpenter knives, you said? Can they cut through wood?"

It was a shame that no one in the cellar had brought a saw.

It wasn't a given that they'd ever make it out of here to see kittens again, but Cybele let herself nod. "I think I'd like to foster them. I was doing a little research on it. There's Trap-Neuter-Release, too." She looked back over to him at the mention of camping, although she did not react to the mention of either one or two tents. "That sounds interesting. I do think I like the woods."

She shifted a bit, wincing as the motion hit her back. "And yes, I lost my memory. I was told it almost always happens when corrupting people who have some amount of power. I was only brought over about a month before we ended up here, so there hasn't been too much time to re-learn."

At least it seemed like here, nobody quite seemed to know what was going on, making it a bit more of a level playing field.

"Well, I wouldn't call carpenter knives good. They aren't like daggers or an actual knife and while they can inflict wounds, they weren't meant to be used as actual weapons. I just think the universe hates me. It was a measuring compass before. I could make hit someone with that and if I tried really hard I could maybe stab at them a little." Not that he did. It was supposed to be a "joke" weapon. "So I have to rely on my fists as well. And unless I had a few hours or even days, I don't think it would be able to get through that door. Not to mention we don't know if that beast is just lurking around... whatever is through it." Did it lead to the outside? Probably. They were getting fresh air somehow. But considering he had never seen the entrance while wandering around the forest outside of the town, he doubted that they would be able to get back there at this point.

He smile at her, it was a nice thought and if he thought he could do it, he might foster animals as well. "I would try it then. I don't think it would hurt anything and we have a lot more resources as well now with the internet. And sounds like something then. I can contact you later, though it would have to be through the Negaverse stuff since I don't know your civilian identity. And well... not sure if I should either." He didn't want to get too close to anyone on this side. It would make leaving harder.

He grunted in pain as he quickly moved when he heard that she had been brought over, about a month ago as well. "What?!" He asked, a bit too loudly as he was pretty sure that they had attention on them as well. He calmed down a bit and coughed, waiting for the others to turn back before he continued. "You were brought over?" This time he said it quietly. Loud enough for her to hear, but not get everyone's attention this time. "Did... I mean do you agree with being corrupted?" He couldn't believe it. She had been forcibly corrupted, just like he was, but she had lost her memories in the process.

Something he had to watch out for when he tried to get out of the Negaverse. This just made the process harder as it seemed that he could be taken back. He couldn't help but curse in his head.

Cybele gave a low, frustrated sigh. "You're right," she said. "Pounding at the door with dull knives for hours would be neither practical or subtle. Although if we run out of food, or if things get otherwise desperate, it may still be our best option." Until then, she would try her best at being patient. She supposed staring at the walls here was not so different from staring at the walls in the barracks.

"I wouldn't curse the universe so quickly," she added, with a smile that was meant to be comforting. "Even dull knives will give your enemies something to think about, and you don't have to worry about bruising your knuckles. Also, your next promotion should bring something even better."

Cybele could not remember a time when she wasn't as strong as she was now, but she had a decent idea of how the ranks worked.

Although her thoughts on that, and even on the simpler things, like cat rescue, were cut short by his question about her corruption.

She simply blinked at his exclamation. Then, she looked down at her hands, and at her dark skirts, now even darker in the shadows. "Is it such a surprise?" she asked, keeping her own voice low, barely above a whisper, as she glanced around to make sure they hadn't caught too much attention. "From what I've been told, it was quite a production. An ambush." Casually, she began to pick some dirt from her fingernails, although her lips were pressed together tightly. "Although it may have been over-exaggerated. From what I can tell, the one who I've been talking to likes her stories."

Something
did stir inside of her chest at his last question, although she did not think too deeply about it. Her face was blank as she said, "The person I used to be did not agree. She defied the Negaverse, but she is dead in all the ways that matter." Cybele shrugged and ran a hand across the black fabric.

"I do not mind serving."

"So it was you then..." He muttered to himself, taking a moment to look at the ground. "Sylvite. You're talking about Captain Sylvite." A woman he hadn't had much interaction with but he had "participated" in the collection of Cybele. Though his was more standing there and just defending himself rather than doing any actual action to "help" with the kidnapping.

He wasn't really thinking about his weapons right now. They usually weren't on his mind at any rate and often times he forgot they even existed. He moved closer to her, as much as he could, before he sat down again and sighed. "It was an ambush. You were the target, I don't know why so don't ask, and they captured you and well, corrupted you."

He couldn't help but chuckle at the Senshi not agreeing part. Of course she hadn't. "No... I don't think you did since it appeared to be a forced Corruption. I'm assuming because you don't remember who you used to be that you think being Corrupted was the right thing. I suppose that's a luxury, having your memories gone." His hadn't been. He had been forced as an ordinary civilian into all of this. "I think it's something they may have wanted me to do. Eventually come around to think that the Negaverse was what I should be serving. I was forced into all of this, though not in the same way you were. I was forcibly corrupted as a civilian and "worked" my way up to being a Captain."

For a moment he questioned why he was telling her this. It was as though he trusted her... but for what reason? And he knew that she would most likely report whatever he said to her. That this wasn't something he should be doing and could very likely end with his starseed being destroyed and possibly eaten by some Youma.

"I wouldn't blame you for reporting me for this. In fact I expect it. But... I will say, somehow I don't think you belong here in the Negaverse. And that's not a bad thing." He gave her a smile, but there was no light to catch it. There were definitely others who belonged, including the General that had corrupted and forced him into all of this. But a Senshi that had forgotten all of their memories?

"Why do you want to serve? What purpose do you have in doing so other than you're a corrupt and that's your "job" now?" Before she could answer though, he saw the fog rolling in again and sighed. "Well, maybe that's something to think about." He said before he was knocked out by the fog once again. And with another day in the cellar having gone by.

Cybele tilted her head in the darkness as she listened to the story from a different perspective. "Oh. She wasn't exaggerating," she murmured, in a tone that suggested she would not have been surprised either way. Sylvite danced around the word corruption, but she'd explained the ambush and that Cybele had once been a powerful enemy.

She shifted slightly before adding, "I don't think it's right, but I don't think it's wrong, either. Perhaps the part of me that cared about such things is the part of me that died." Her gaze flicked to the walls of their prison, certainly something that wasn't right by most standards, and yet it was the place where they had found themselves. "Anyway, it is a war. These things happen."

There was little emotion in her voice as she continued to look at their surroundings. A bit more mist began to drift through the door above. She watched it curl down towards them.

"I was claimed. I am aware that I am just a tool of the Negaverse, but that also means that they should take care of me while I am of use to them." It was a deal she could accept, although it wasn't much use while they were still trapped here.

She said nothing about reporting him. That did not matter unless they made it out alive, and a few seconds later, as the fog rolled in farther, nothing mattered at all. Unconsciousness claimed her.
