An overwhelming sensation of dread and fear seems to roll in with the creature. It cannot break into the buildings, but it can damage them--just never enough to get inside. Once a house is damaged, it is not safe to return to unless it is repaired before nightfall. The creature can splinter wood, claw at bricks, and crack or shatter glass. It can wail like a banshee and can linger for moments or hours throughout the night. It is always gone before sunrise. And he'd gone and put off finding a place for the night for too long. He shivered hard, wishing he had a coat, and knocked on the nearest door, hoping they'd let him in.

Once again, Elsa found himself too far from the house he'd been sharing with Metis and the others to get to it in time for sundown. Fortunately, there was a fairly intact house for him to duck into, and he'd shut the door and was checking for ingresses for the fog when he heard the knock.
Part of him, the part that was way too familiar with horror genre conventions, screamed not to open that door. But the creature never knocked; it howled and scratched and bange,d but it didn't knock.
He opened the door, and there wa sa Senshi he'd seen a few times, but never spoken to--and without hesitation, Elsa beckoned him in.
"Come on, get inside, before it gets too dark."

Monoceros smiled gratefully, stepping inside. "Thank you so much," he said quietly, ensuring the door shut behind him. He rubbed his arms, feeling a bit warmer for being out of the wind, at least. "This place is..." He shook his head. "Anyway, hi. I'm Monoceros. And you?"

"This place is the worst," Elsa said, unhappily, and he resumed checking the windows to make sure they were sealed. "I'm Elsa, nice to meet you. Check the doors and windows, and look for any gaps in the wall."
He paused, briefly, and let out a breath. "Sorry if I seem snappish. On the...second or third? Night we were here, I got stuck alone and didn't notice that there was a gap in the wall of the house I holed up in. Some of that fog got in, and I spent the whole night having--I'm not sure if they were nightmares or waking hallucinations? The distinction doesn't really matter. It was bad. And I don't want to do that again. Never mind the monster out there."

Monoceros nodded. "Yeah. I get ya. It's..." He shivered again. "I don't want ot see them again, either." He started methodically going through the house, checking the door he'd just come in, first. "Nice to meet you, though I wish it was under better circumstances," he said with a weak laugh.

Once Elsa was relatively sure the rooms were sealed, he sighed, wandering back to what had probably once been a kitchen and pulling out a chair from around a dusty table.
"You been mostly okay?" He called, after Monoceros. The house was small enough that he was pretty sure that he'd be heard regardless of where he was.

Monoceros shrugged. "Cold, lonely, and terrified out of my mind," he admitted. He might as well, at this point. He wasn't doing well like this. He was a social butterfly, but he wasn't a leader or anything, and was bad at getting a group to fit in with, here. "But I haven't been maimed, killed, or seriously injured, so."

Elsa nodded, and gave Monoceros a sympathetic smile. "Yeah, that sounds about right," he agreed, and he stretched. "I've been lucky. Ran into someone I knew early on, and I've mostly been staying with her and a couple other people, so we've been keeping each other safe--"
He stopped--because he saw movement out of the corner of his eye, and whipped to look at the window.
There. Outside. A hulking shape, great and terrible.

"I don't know very many," he'd started to say, then froze in sheer terror. Every hair on his body went on end as gooseflesh broke out. "We checked everything, right?" he asked, voice wobbling.

Elsa took a sharp breath, and winced as the creature slammed its massive body into the wall.
"We checked everything. It can't get to us, but that doesn't mean this isn't going to suck." He slipped out of the chair and dropped onto the floor. "Get low. Maybe if it can't see us, it'll pass us by."

Monoceros nodded sharply, dropping to the ground and wondering if he should be thankful or not for being rather chubby. On one hand, his fall to the floor was rather cushioned. On the other, should he get caught by the creature, he might be rather tasty. After all, Hansel and Gretel were fattened up before cooking for a reason, right? "Not the time, 'Ceros," he muttered to himself, curling his arms over his head. "Leave.... please leave..."

Elsa felt that now-familiar sense of dread seeping into his bones, as the creature continued battering at the door. There was a loud, terrible wail, and it made him flinch, but he grit his teeth.
Monoceros was a first-stage Senshi. By Elsa's guess, he didn't exactly seem super experienced. Elsa, though, had years in this war under his belt--and he had to be a stronger force. So, he took a deep breath, and moved over to be next to Monoceros, putting a hand on his shoulder.
"We're gonna be okay," he said. "It can't get in here. It's not going to be able to hurt us."

Monoceros flinched slightly at the unexpected touch, but uncurled his arms and blinked up at Elsa with a nervous smile. "Better not be, I'm holding you to that promise," he quipped with a shaky voice. He hadn't actually fought anything yet. He'd only practiced. Practice didn't set you up for the real thing, though. And so far, his only experience had been with that youma he'd petted, back when he wasn't even a senshi yet. He was pretty sure he couldn't attempt to reason with this particular monster, though.

Elsa glanced over at the door, and nodded, firmly. "It's been attacking us every night, and it still hasn't managed to break into any house I've been in. I don't think it can, not in one night. It's powerful, and nasty, and scary, but it's not going to be able to kill us."
He had to believe that. He had to be the experienced badass here, so that Monoceros might be a little less afraid, and they might have an easier time getting throguh the night.
"And it can't harass us forever. It'll move on eventually. It has to."

"Whatever this wood is made of, we clearly need to take it and make some things with it," he joked, a little less shakily this time as he sat up on his arms a little. He flinched as the monster screamed, slamming itself against the door. "Shoo," he whispered, lifting a hand to make a shooing motion toward the door. "....Bad kitty?"
