Quote:
Confronting the Creature (1) : Everything about this place tells you that you should not be out at night. The forest turns wicked, a horrible fog rolls in, and a monstrous creature stirs. But you, for whatever reason, decided to be out late. Perhaps you thought you could hunt the creature, or solve some mystery, or perhaps you were simply unlucky. Either way, the creature has found you. This must be a battle, and you must quote the shop mule, Beckoning Chaos, if you wish to pursue this plot. You will need to send a PM to this mule to declare if you intend to escape or be captured, and any special requests or information you need to share! A moderator or GM will be assigned to RP the creature in this roleplay. You may manage to escape into a building if you are close enough into town, however if you manage to do this you will spend the rest of the evening with the creature tormenting you, banging on the house and trying to break in; you will suffer horrible hallucinations and be plagued with paranoia and fear until morning. If you do not manage to seek shelter, or if you would like the creature to break into your shelter, the creature will defeat you in battle and you will pass out. You cannot defeat the monster, but you may learn something about it in battle. If you lose, you will be taken to a cellar with other prisoners and held outside of the city. Please see the below prompt for more information!

Aquamarine was usually smarter than this. He wasn’t without his own flaws, but he didn’t usually make such a huge mistake as being out at night with a menacing fog while a freakish creature lurked about. He had a better sense of self-preservation than that.

Yet here he was, outside after the sun set, hurrying to get back to any form of shelter, all because he hadn’t been paying close enough attention to the time. In his defense, he didn’t have anything on hand to tell him what time it actually was, and it wasn’t always easy to judge the time of day for himself with all the gloomy clouds. One moment he could have sworn it was still late afternoon, and the very next moment, what little light managed to break through the cloud cover seemed to be gone.

Fortunately (unfortunately?), he wasn’t the only one out and about. In his haste, and with his visibility limited by the fog, Aquamarine nearly ran right into a Corrupt Senshi, who turned out to be a familiar face. Aquamarine steadied himself after the near collision and scoffed, then made a noise with his tongue to express his displeasure.

“What the ******** do you think you’re doing out here?” he demanded. “Does that hole in your head impair your brain function?”

Not that he had an acceptable excuse for himself.

Kamacite was not built for this kind of environment. He wasn’t overly privileged, having been forced to take care of himself since he was young. His step-mother wanted nothing to do with him at best and probably dead at worst, and his father had been absent and purposefully turned a blind eye to how he was treated. Being on his own and taking care of himself was practically second nature to him at this point, but that did not include trying to survive the wilds.

Not really knowing anyone in addition to his anxiety meant that Kamacite had avoided trying to team up with anyone else. Why would they agree to let him tag along when he was clearly out of his depth? It also meant that he was on his own for trying to figure out shelter and food. He’d managed to hole up in one of the abandoned structures, but he had no idea what to do about food.

He went as long as possible without eating anything, before he finally tried a few berries that seemed to be from a bush similar to one already picked over by the others who were there.

Unfortunately, his stomach did not agree with whatever it was. Whether it was poison or not he didn’t know, but by the time the irritating blond General practically ran into him, he’d already heaved up what little contents he’d managed to swallow.

Face sickly pale and sweaty, Kamacite barely had enough time to shoot a silent glare at the General before bending over to dry heave again. He’d been trying to get back to the shelter, but his legs were weak and he needed to stop every few feet.

Obviously there wasn’t much room for him to form a proper retort.

In the middle of the dark woods, with fog swirling behind them, around them, between them and the village, it was hardly the ideal time or place to strike a proper conversation.

There was no guarantee of safety or privacy in these woods, and as the seconds ticked on, so too faded what little comfort may have lingered from the last lights of the setting sun.

The village seemed so far away. In sight, but like there was an unending distance between where they were now and where they needed to be. Trees shifted and croaked in the otherwise silent night. In the blink of an eye, the wall of them seemed closer, like the trees had closed in around them. It was suffocating, almost, more so than the choking wisps of the fog rising up, coiling around them each. There was something strange, even, the in the way the fog seemed to cling to them, like a hand gripping the fabric of their uniforms and trying to pull them down to the dirt.

“Ew.”

Aquamarine had no time to demonstrate his disgust and annoyance beyond that. They were too far away from the village for his comfort, surrounded by trees and fog and who knew what else. He didn’t like to think of himself as a coward, but fear was a healthy emotion and he felt it acutely right then. He stared around them, trying to peer through the fog, looking between Kamacite and the village that wasn’t getting any closer. The fog was thickening rapidly, and the last thing he wanted was to be stuck out here with a Corrupt Senshi who seemed even more useless than usual.

“Listen here, idiot,” Aquamarine began, burying a first into the front of Kamacite’s robes to yank him upright. “If you don’t pull yourself together, I swear to God I will leave you here. Got it? I don’t have time for this. I will throw you at that monster as a distraction if you slow me down.”

He should have left him there right away. Aquamarine didn’t care about most of his allies, but he cared about Corrupt Senshi even less — especially this one, after Kamacite had the nerve to get sassy with him. But he was also a General and he was trying to be a better officer overall, and that occasionally meant swallowing his dislike and being responsible. Would he care if this Corrupt Senshi got himself killed? No. Should he at least make a cursory effort to get them both to safety? Probably.

So he yanked on Kamacite’s robes and began to drag him in the direction of the village, through the clinging fog that wasn’t making progress any easier.

“This is creepy,” Aquamarine said, not speaking to Kamacite so much as he was trying to fill the silence with noise. “I am officially creeped out.”

Kamacite could care less if he was grossing out the General. In fact, if the General decided to just leave him there, Kamacite wouldn’t be surprised if he was better off. Maybe whatever was lurking in the woods was only after stuck up blond boys.

But he also couldn’t say he wasn’t terrified of the idea of being alone out there when night was creeping over them, and the fog was surrounding and suffocating them.

He didn’t have the strength at the moment to pull himself away when the General grabbed onto his robes and started dragging him along. Keeping himself on his feet was difficult enough, what with the way his stomach was betraying him. Kamacite didn’t bother saying anything in response, but kept a hand over his mouth as if that would somehow help him focus long enough to make it to safety.

Something was obviously out there. Something was alive and trying to pull them down. The shifting and croaking of the trees made Kamacite jump, and he grabbed onto the General’s wrist to keep him from deciding to abandon him then and there.

“Weapon?” he managed to wheeze out, hoping this guy was as tough as he talked.

The faster they moved, the thicker the fog seemed to get. The village was no closer after half a minute of running, and even the ground seemed to shift, like they were trying to pass through mud instead of across the smooth grass.

Suddenly, the fog clutching at them wasn't enough, and a powerful hand wrapped around one ankle each and gripped. It was icy, and the bony sensation of thin fingers dug into them. It yanked them back, trying to pull them off their feet and onto the ground. A dark shadow seemed to be drifting closer, hunched and slow moving as it trailed them.

“Of course I have a—”

But Aquamarine didn’t have a chance to complete the retort. Something wrapped around his ankle — bony fingers with a surprisingly strong grip — yanking hard enough to send him tumbling onto the shifting ground. The shriek that tore from his throat was loud and undignified, but it cut off quickly as the impact with the forest floor knocked the breath from his lungs. He almost lost his hold on Kamacite’s robes but tightened his grasp on the way down; even if the creepy hand didn’t manage to trip Kamacite up, Aquamarine had every intention of pulling the useless Senshi down with him.

He tried to jerk his foot away and kicked out with the other, anything to force the cold hand to release him. Satisfied that Kamacite would not be going anywhere any time soon, Aquamarine let go of his robes to summon his rapier. With his free hand, he pulled his dagger from the sheath at his back, hidden beneath his cape, using it to lash out at the thing around his ankle.

“If you slow me down again, I will kill you myself,” Aquamarine seethed at the Senshi.

There wasn’t much of an opportunity to issue any further threats. A shadow was approaching. Between that, the fog, and the hand, Aquamarine had far too many things requiring his attention to waste time on a rant.

Even though Kamacite was tripped up and dragged to the ground as well, it was most satisfying to see the blond haired brat falling flat on his face. The sound Kamacite made as he fell was decidedly more dignified than the General, as he kept his hand over his mouth and then arm over his whole face to protect it when he hit the constantly shifting ground.

As completely irritating as this General was, Kamacite hadn't expected a full on threat to kill him.

His dark eyes narrowed on the General as he struggled to free his leg, and Kamacite paused in trying to free his own so he could hold his hand out above him.

"Solar flare!" he called, not bothering to warn the General as he usually would about his attack. At least this way Kamacite would hopefully be able to see what they were dealing with as a blinding light lit the woods around them.

With the General threatening to not just leave him, but throw him to the monster, and now threatening to kill him, Kamacite had no intention of helping the other, even as he continued to try and yank his foot free so he could hopefully jump away from the creature and General in the confusion of his attack.

Quote:
Sailor Scout Attack: Solar Flare
There is a brilliant flash of light causing temporary but immediate disorientation and blindness that fades into horribly spotty vision; can last upwards of twenty seconds. The attack does not cause physical damage and is intended as a diversion or distraction. Has an effect radius of 8 feet (although the flash can be seen as one would see any flash), and can be used three times.

For the briefest instant, the creature recoiled at the senshi magic; it raised one giant hand up to shield its face from the bright light. The second the light began to flicker, the beast seemed enraged. If it was disoriented or blinded, it was hard to tell--but it immediately retaliated. The creature bristled and drew itself to its full height; the plumed tail that dragged behind it sprung up, fanning out behind it and nearly doubling the space it took up.

It was an impressive figure in the darkness, but there was little time to admire it when it was hounding the intruders.

Enraged by the attack, the creature sucked in a great breath of air and howled--a piercing, screech that echoed in their ears. The sound was so shrill that it was immediately accompanied with a wave of dizziness and a throbbing headache, but more than that it was enough to send an ache straight to the bones.

It didn't seem to have any intent of going easy on these two--and after it's horrible wail prowled closer, circling them ominously as the fog thickened and blanketed the ground around them.

“What are you—”

But Aquamarine didn’t have the chance to finish that thought either. The Senshi’s magic was immediate and blinding. Aquamarine’s next shriek was one of rage more than one of shock or pain. He squeezed his eyes shut against the blinding light, but it was far too late to protect himself from the effects.

“What the ******** is wrong with you?!” he shouted at the Senshi, completely overlooking the fact that he had threatened the Senshi twice now and probably deserved a little retaliation.

When it seemed safe enough to open his eyes again, Aquamarine’s vision was spotty enough that he didn’t notice the change in the creature right away. When its size and plumed tail registered, he shouted another furious curse and attempted to put as much distance between himself and the creature as possible, dragging himself along the ground if that’s what it took.

The howling stopped him in his tracks, earning a forceful wince, a pained hiss, and more passionate swearing. A wave of dizziness washed over him. Aquamarine dropped his dagger as he brought a hand to his pounding head; he pressed his palm against his forehead in a useless effort to stem the pain. His bones ached, and as the creature drew closer, Aquamarine’s stomach turned with a healthy dose of fear.

Angry and desperate, he grabbed Kamacite by his robes again and stumbled back onto his feet, dragging the Senshi up with him. Aquamarine might have been too disoriented to stand straight and proud, but he wasn’t so weakened that he couldn’t make good on one of his threats.

“I warned you,” he seethed, and shoved Kamacite in the creature’s direction.

He knew the monster would likely retaliate, but at least he was doing something instead of waving his dainty little sword around like it actually mattered. Still, Kamacite felt himself cripple under the monster’s howl, his hands pressed against his ears as he practically curled in on himself on the shifting ground.

Even the General’s pissy caterwauling seemed to be drowned out by the monster.

At least for the moment, and not long enough.

Kamacite still felt weak from eating whatever churned his stomach, but the adrenaline from threat of death was a powerful drug. He knew he should be more focused on the monster towering over them and the thickening fog, but he felt more livid than scared.

The General grabbed onto his robes, but that was all the General was shoving. He would probably find himself terribly off-balanced as Kamacite slipped his arm out of the sleeve that had been grabbed, and twisted away as he suspected the General to try and kill him as he’d threatened. Or at least let the monster do the dirty work for him.

Va te faire enculer,” Kamacite spat, grabbing hold of the General’s mop of golden hair and forcefully dragging him away from the monster as best he could manage. Unlike this little b***h, Kamacite wasn’t into sacrificing his own.

Yet.

Maximum solaire!” he called out, free hand held out and directed towards the monster once more. Holding onto the b*****d’s hair meant he could blind him and still drag him along. The only reason why he held back from using his most powerful magic was because he knew he could cause others physical harm.

As if the General would ever thank him for that. If they managed to escape Kamacite was going to be sure to punch him in the face for being a self serving piece of s**t.

Super Sailor Scout Attack: Solar Maximum

Additionally, devices with an electrical or magnetized charge (street lights, phones, cameras, etc) suddenly do not work during those thirty seconds. There have been cases of street light bulbs bursting from the electromagnetic surge. The attack does not cause physical damage and is intended as a diversion or distraction, as well as a hindrance. Once more, the creature seemed to wield a growing fury when exposed to the bright light; its eyes disappeared into the shadows of its skull and--for a moment, it seemed off balance.

And then, it seemed angry.

It’s clawed feet were concealed by the mist but it took a wide legged stance and lowered itself, swaying a bit on its feet. Its antlers were aimed straight towards the two and looked more like a wall than something any creature should wear atop its head. The antlers were massive, and while some of the points seemed to be worn down, some seemed sharp enough to pierce flesh easily. It swayed a bit on its feet, talons dragging over the ground as it stalked after them.

It charged, suddenly, kicking up dirt as it plowed through the fog towards the two of them. It’s feathers trailed behind it now, sending the mist swirling in a gust behind it as it ran towards the two with full intention to buck them as far as it could, aiming to hurl them back into the forest and off of their path towards the village.

Many things happened almost at once, with the result that Aquamarine had neither the time to process the fact that the Senshi was cursing him out in French nor the chance to offer a retort in the same language.

A fist sank into his hair, which seemed viciously petty, dragging him off toward the village before Aquamarine could complain. He’d stumbled along only a few steps when the Corrupt Senshi used more magic. Being as unprepared for it as before, Aquamarine was instantly blinded again, shrieking with rage and grabbing onto the Senshi’s wrist in an attempt to pull the hand out of his hair. He had very little luck and stopped within seconds, not at all inclined to rip the hair from his head in his effort to get free.

Completely disoriented and blinking through his spotty vision, Aquamarine had no idea which direction they were headed in, or where the creature was now. He heard it there still, but had no time to search for it again.

Not that he needed to. It made its presence known soon enough.

Something tore through Aquamarine’s side before his vision cleared, violent and painful. He couldn’t gasp or shout; the impact took his break away, and the agony that followed ensured that he had neither the energy nor the wherewithal to speak. He had seconds at most to recognize the warmth soaking into his jacket as blood, before he was hurled several yards away.

The Senshi’s hand left his hair, but that wasn’t much of a silver lining considering Aquamarine’s head collided with the thick trunk of a tree.

He was unconscious before his body hit the ground.

Kamacite was desperate to slow the approach of the monster. His attacks seemed to be stalling it at least, making it disoriented, but that was about it. The monster was still furious and Kamacite could tell it had every intention to attack.

Unfortunately for Kamacite, he was also trying to drag this ungrateful brat to safety, unlike what the General would have done for him, so his movements had been slowed in addition to the strange way the fog was clawing at them and dragging them down.

There hadn't been enough time to react or dodge the charging attack, not with how things were. He released his hold on the General's hair as they were tossed, and let out a soundless gasp as air was knocked from his lungs and pain throbbed from all over it seemed.

And still, even with the General's still, bloodied body on the ground next to him, Kamacite struggled against the darkness around his vision to get back on his feet. He clawed at the ground and dug his knees into the soil to try and force himself up once more, placing himself purposefully in front of the unconscious General.

But the effort wasn't enough. He never had a chance to get his hand lifted again for another attack, not with how his head was throbbing and his arm felt wet and sticky. Kamacite finally collapsed from exhaustion and pain.

A stillness fell over the forest, then, and nearly complete silence.

The creature’s demeanor changed the moment the two were unconscious, and though it lingered in the area and seemed ready to attack it took only a few seconds before it seemed to relax. Its feathers lowered into a train behind it again and it walked slowly, languidly, to their unconscious bodies.

A hand reached for each of them, clawed fingers almost gently gripping the fabric at their back.

It lifted them easily, carrying them a good few inches above the cold ground so it wasn’t quite dragging them.

There were no witnesses to its destination; it disappeared in the fog to deposit them elsewhere.
