Quote: The village always has dull weather during the daytime, but it's easy enough to navigate through. Though the sky is cloudy and little light breaks through, by nighttime the climate changes. The air cools rapidly and within an hour of the sun setting, a chilling mist rolls from the forest and covers the village. It is almost suffocating and inhaling it even for only a moment will result in hallucinations. The visions are terrifying, often including shadows covering everything, the sensation of eternal falling, and the appearance of a great beast attacking. These hallucinations are always frightening and can last anywhere from a few moments through the entire night. There is no way to dispel the fog and it is too dangerous to stay outside past sundown. The first evening had been peaceful and largely uneventful. Given the group had elected to simply find shelter and ensure they were comfortable, it had resulted in an early 'finish' for the day that saw each of them settled in their chosen abode well before any unwelcome visitors are magical mist entered their sight. With the exception of being tired, hungry and a touch thirsty, they had been completely safe and courtesy of this morning's endeavours they had at least found something to eat.
Supplies were something that were still being gathered though, Athalia had wandered back and forth over the course of the day with materials he'd sourced to better the condition of their own home. It wasn't his tidiest work to be fair, but slowly but surely the cracks were being covered and in time, he might even be able to block out some of the more extreme drafts.
Even he had to concede that last night had been extremely cold.
Given that the small team had already gathered enough to sustain them for the evening it was only fair that he at least tried to provide them with a little heat. It was for this reason that the senshi was still wandering round as darkness approach, sweeping up the appropriate wood and kindle that he deemed to be in a reasonable enough state to make a fire. Unfortunately, when it came to fires, it also needed fuel to sustain it and simply starting it wasn't going to be enough.
It was this fuel that he was still gathering as the evening closed in and the air began to bite.
As time continued to run away from him, it wouldn't be long before he realised that it was definitely not safe to be outside after dark...

Metis clicked her tongue from where she stood within the doorway of their temporary home. Behind her, she could hear some of the others bustling about or chatting lightly. She could smell the remainders of what had been dinner, along with smoke from the small fire that lingered from cooking their earlier meal.
"...are you sure he went out?"
Her head tilted slightly, aware of the yellow energy that drifted through the empty air beside her. From down below, she heard Realta hum. "Yes, I saw him leave after we finished eating. The sun was still high enough at the time, but not sure how he expects to see much longer." The guardian's voice held amusement, not the slightest bit of distress or concern to it. She'd little fear that something could actually hurt him out there--though caution was still ideal till they better understood where they were, and why.
But the idea of him wandering around in the dark amused her to no end. Perhaps he'd bounce around the forest like a ball in a pinball machine?
For Metis, though, the idea was concerning. She rubbed at her arms, the air already carrying a scent that reminded her of winter. Cold. Crisp. It bit at her skin and stung her nose. It wasn't ideal for anyone to be out in that, never mind someone who's uniform showed off a decent amount of skin...
Even if they were magically protected up to an extent.
"I'll be back shortly," she said simply, raising her voice just enough to ensure others within their household heard her. Realta gave another hum, acknowledging her call, the sound quickly falling behind her as Metis trudged out into the chilly air. According to the Mauvian, he'd headed towards the forest again. She could summarize a few reasons why he might be out that way, and hardly could she be cross with him for it. But unless he brought a light, he'd be potentially in trouble soon enough. Or. Could be. She wasn't entirely sure how much light really existed for anyone to see by.
She saw by entirely different methods, after all. So her form of judgment was... moot.
"Athalia?" Her boots crunched over leaves, twigs, and dirt as she made her way over first the road, then grasses, and into the forest itself. Green light illuminated the world around her, her immediate area by copper with silver tendrils pulsing through it. At least the forest was alive. It was something of a comfort, her gloved hands gently running across trunks and softly lifting away branches that might have tried to snag on her clothing or hair. The lack of wildlife still concerned her. But had everything been dead, empty... that would have been far, far worse.
"Athalia? Where are you?" Metis lifted her voice higher, turning her head slowly this way and that to better survey the area as she walked. Gingerly, she picked her way through the underbrush, now and then lifting her skirts slightly to avoid them getting snagged on branches or thorns. The very nature of this forest, magical by whatever means, meant that he couldn't have gone too far out. Unless he went in an entirely different direction than Realta had originally seen him set off in. In which case, her search would be all the longer, and probably pointless if he got back before her....

Rather distracted within his own musings, the senshi had remained largely unaware of the passing time and it was only as the sound of something caught his attention that he looked up. A furrowing of his brow at the faint snapping of twigs and he swung the logs over his shoulder and turned to face it. With no life in the forest to be had this typically meant that he wasn't alone, but the manner in which it approached him wasn't entirely alarming either.
...And then it spoke.
To the credit of his companions they had all given one another the respect they were entitled to. They were free to roam where they wanted to, they all did what they needed to in order to contribute (or had in the last day or so), and as such had been left to their own devices. So why was it that he now had the company of one who had seemed relatively content in the house until this point?
"I'm over here," he called out in reply, taking the opportunity to move closer towards the incoming senshi. It was only fair to meet her halfway, save her the unnecessary walk, particularly when he was fairly sure he had at least enough tinder to keep some sort of fire running for a little while.
"Everything all right?"
It still hadn't dawned on him what time it might be, it hadn't felt like he'd been away for that long to be entirely honest.

Athalia's matching copper and silver aura relaxed her a bit to glimpse through the green silhouettes and energy waves of the forest. Her pace eased up, but she picked it up again when she realized he was beginning to make his way towards her.
The voids up at his shoulder confirmed what she figured he was doing out there, and his question made her flush a little. Suddenly, she felt rather silly for being so concerned. He was an adult. He didn't need someone hovering around him. And yet, here she was...
"Realta said it's getting dark," she said lamely, a sheepish smile flickering across her features. "I... wasn't sure how much light was out here for you to see by. And since we don't really know what brought us here..." Her hands fidgeted with her bow, gold coins clinking softly with the movements. A lame shrug was all she could finish with, feeling all the more ridiculous as she'd explained herself.
"Um... do you need help carrying anything back?" Now she winced a little, because really, of all the things she probably couldn't help with much...
But the air was darkening around them bit by bit, though she didn't see it. Nor was she aware of a growing mist that began to form and roll slowly from the depths of the forest beyond them.

Realta could be a bit of a mother hen sometimes, sort of. It was endearing to have someone concerned for his wellbeing, but given Metis had wandered out to find him as a result of their conversation, he did have to quirk a brow. Had he really been gone that long? He hadn't thought he'd zoned out quite that badly and yet as he cast his gaze upwards, he was greeted with confirmation that it was getting dark. Those rays of light that had filtered like wisps through the leaves were dissipating, leaving nothing in their wake.
...And yes, that biting cold was beginning to nibble at his arms again.
"So it is," he murmured, a touch taken aback by the fact he had been caught out by the shift in time. This place really was strange, disturbingly so, and for the life of him he had yet to put his finger on why it bothered him so much. Whatever it was simply agitated him and every fibre of his being seemed to scream out that they were all doomed.
Still, if the evening was drawing in quickly then that meant it was going to get rather cold. He'd come out with the intention of avoiding that and he'd fail in that endeavour if they didn't start heading back with what he'd found!
"You can carry some of it," he said after a moment and gathered up what he hoped was a light enough batch of the kindling for her to take. He'd carry the rest, and hopefully it would be enough for this evening and then some. "I wouldn't have much more useful light to work with so...good call," he waved his hand slightly and then placed it on her shoulder.
"We should head back," he agreed, unaware that the mist was very much on his heels and would eventually be nipping at his toes...
