Watercolor - Having an artistic hobby is an important form of expression, especially when you aren't always good with words. Ilya began painting when he was young and quickly shifted from finger paint to acrylic to watercolor. He appreciates the patience that goes into working with watercolor, the malleability of the medium, and the whimsical effect he can achieve through the art. He would have gone into art if not driven by his parents and a need to do good in the world. When he needs to wind down, he can make himself comfortable and just paint; he favors pieces that feature flowers or peaceful, flowing motifs.
Children's Books -- Ilya works with children and has an intimate view of their trials and tribulations. Sometimes it is difficult to get a child to open up to him, and he has always thought that art and literature can be a good foundation for communication and building off of. He wants everyone to have a character they can associate with, and have stories they relate to, so he has worked very hard to create stories that can appeal to a wide variety of children, even those in special circumstances. They are primarily published digitally but he has had small batches printed while trying to get a publisher. He doesn't mind waiting, and does it for the message, not the money. Health -- Ilya is in a stressful job, juggling that with additional schooling. He believes that having a healthy body is the key to having a healthy mind, so he devotes a decent amount of time to taking care of himself. He tries to eat healthy and makes a point to get fresh ingredients whenever he can. He takes care of his body and works out a few times a week; it's a good way to relieve stress and it's a good opportunity to clear your mind and relax.
Gardening -- Because Ilya's schedule is erratic, he doesn't have the time to dedicate to tending to pets; in their stead, he has a small garden that he tends to. Tending to plants started as an excuse to have cleaner air in his apartment but moved into him growing different things and working his way up to herbs and small crops. He enjoys working with the plants and likes spending time doing something quiet and peaceful. Gardening is the only messy thing he can stand, and even then he works to keep everything immaculate.
