It wasn't her usual thing, but she needed a mental break. A breather, a moment to be distracted. Besides, it wasn't hot, so all was well-- and Yolanda Hydrus walked into the Destiny City Reptile show to begin exploring. The show was full of snakes, geckos, anolesm, lizarfds -- any featherless beasties remotely related to the dinosaurs as she began to relax, enjoying meeting reptile after reptile. Some wetre angry. Some iguanas, a lot of sassy bullsnakes, a few overdramatic hognoses -- Yolie giggled a bit, buit didn't like when one ghost morph bullsnake absolutely hissed and struck so hard it flipped itself, and Yolie started, wondering wehat wqas wrong. She frowned, and turned to look at a reptiile rescue thoughtfully as she hummed, examining a chameleon when she sighted an informational, brilliant group with ample information on one's first snake, and she approached, head tiuilting as she rewad intently. And then she looked down.
They had baby corn snakes in bins to show what they were like, and she gasped as a blue cornsnake seemed to be watching, tongue flicking curiously as Yolie watched, then looked to the booth owner.
"Excuse me," She murmuredm almost inaudibly, but she was heard. "Might I hold them?" She motioned to the serpent, and the owner smiled, nossing. They opened the container, and sauddenly the baby was trying to escape before beiong caught, gently, and offered to Yolie, whom took him gewntly. The snake seemed to settle, entwining in her fingers and beginning to flick it's tongue before exploring her arm, and Yolie lit up, the ownert smiling.
"Oh, he likes you, he's a very shy thing, too." They admitted.
"What.. Would a corn snake need?" Yolie asked, and they beamed.
"Rodents -- we recommend frozen-thaweed - a sfourty gallen minimum tank, a good status -- we use Aspen fibers -- basking lights with UVB potential, perchews and a hide... A good rough surface..."
"Oh, I'd love to adopt him, though..."
"Oh! Well, he hatched two weeks ago so we want to make sure he's eating properly, but, it's very wise to make sure his new home is prepared before you put him in. There's a wonderful containment solution here, and a giid pet store has the rest." They smiled, and Yolie lit up, before squeaking as the baby snake settled opn her shoulder.
"Oh, I think he did the deciding for me..." Yolie giggled somer as the snake's tongue flicked her, and the owners chuckled.
"Oh, and did jhe. Well, we just need your contact and mailing information to send him to you when he's ready, and his playment."
Yolie nodded, carefully moving to fish outr a pen as they began discussing payment. As Yolie handed over the payment for her new friend, the opwner smiled as Yolie stroked him, and motioned.
"What are you naming him anyhow?" They asked. "Or do you need us to probe him before sending?"
Yolie considered before the snake began to go down her arm and she raised it to support him, the corn snake baby happy to remain on her as she watched.
"Seiryuu." Yolie finally affirmed. "After the Azure draghhon in eastern myth. He's my little dragon."
The owner lausghed and gently liftyed him, returning him to his container and marking him sold.
"I think he'll live up to it with you. He certainly does like you."
"I like him, too. My little Seiryuu." Yolie looked down. "Be brave and so fierce, little guy. I'm making sure your new home is the best new home you could ask for." She smiled, feeling... Better, a bit, and felt the last muscles unclench./ Somehow, one little life made things feel less overwhelming.
