For the Purpose of this Self Roleplay, Ash will be using dice to decide a fight against an enemy - a threat to the pack.
Ash will be fighting a large, Juvenile Mountain Lion that has wandered into the territory and has been stalking the outskirts of the pack to pick off the birds and has even tried going after a familiar hare or rabbit, thankfully failing to take them.
To fight, he will roll two D20s. The first roll is how much damage he deals and the second roll is how much damage the big cat blocks!
The Mountain Lion will start with 75 HP, as will Phoenix Ash.
The Mountain Lion will roll 1 D20 to attack, Ash will roll a defensive 1D20 before each of his following attacks, subtracting his total from the Cougar's roll for damage taken.

For the sake of a more dramatic playout, I did make a couple of re-rolls, but none of the rerolls I made would have changed the outcome of the fight between Ash and the mountain lion. Had Ash lost, he'd have returned to the pack wounded, seeking aid, and would have reported the danger to the pack, in the event the mountain lion didn't leave the territory or bleed out from her injuries.
Dark nose followed the illuminated trail of the scent that had caught his attention during his last patrol. By the smell of it he could tell it was a feline, and the paw prints he came across were massive. This was no small lynx and judging by the deep claw indents at the top of each print, it was hunting, or looking for trouble. He growled low in his throat and a noise up ahead slowed his progression.
He lowered himself slowly, sliding into the shadows. Blue eyes squinted and observed the changing in the light filtering through the canopy of the trees and his muscles bunched taught beneath his rippling coat. His golden ruff swayed in the wind as it blew against him, bringing his quarry's scent and his breath caught as a shadow crossed his path.
He had been waiting for three hours to catch sight of it as it circled his pack, now was the time! With a sudden release of his muscles he dug his back claws into the earth and kicked off, his heavy form sprung into the air, a silent, deadly missile.

The large tawny cat screamed, leaping in shock, hissing and swinging a thick foreleg at him defensively, claws out. He was struck and he fell back with a low yelp at the sting from heft and weight of the sharp tipped paw.
She -as it turned out the Cougar was a female- snarled as he regained his feet, turning in a slow circle with him, face to face, her amber eyes burning bright, tail lasting, long gleaming teeth bared as she hissed again. Her back arched and she swiped again in hopes of fending him off.

A move from cat brought a snarl from the wolf, a move from the wolf brought a snarl from the cat. Both waited and listened to the slow rise and fall of paws, the rapid, harsh breaths and the frantic beating of the other's heart.
Finally in a stalemate that seemed to last hours longer than minutes, Ash feinted to the left and as the cougar lunged for his flank, he spun and hit her from the side, teeth trying to find purchase in her broad shoulders as his heavy paws sought to pin her.
His oafishly large back feet found purchase in the dip of her stomach and as she struggled to get her forelegs between them to claw or shove at his chest, she yowled as his sharp rear claws shredded her sensitive underbelly.

The wolf's attack seemed to knock some of the confidence from the lioness and she struggled beneath him. Finally able to gain leverage, she shoved against him and while she was able to escape from beneath him, she was too shaken by the brute's overwhelming strength to make an attack.
She righted herself, leaping towards him, jaws wide opened, but he evaded her easily and she was left spinning in place to find her foe as she skidded past him and he readied to attack her from the flank.
He avoided the cat's deadly jaws, lunging from her flank as she spun, grabbing hold of the loose skin at the back of her neck. The feline shrieked unhappily, twisting one way, then the other, but his size gave him the advantage, all four feet firmly on the ground straddling her smaller figure.
She grew heavy in his maw, sagging abruptly in an attempt to escape, hips twisting, hind legs flailing upwards.
His teeth clenched so tightly that they pierced her thick skin, but neither creature noticed, the adrenaline so high neither felt it. He moved to one side, trying to avoid her claws but he knew one well-aimed kick could gut him and he was at risk of losing his footing or getting within range of her jaws.
The Lioness attempted to regain her feet as soon as she sensed hesitation in the wolf, digging her back claws into the dirt and surging upwards with her shoulders. She used her own force of momentum to right herself and send Ash toppling once more, this time landing on the wolf's chest, he tucked his chin down to protect his throat as the cat bared her teeth with a malicious gleam in her eyes.

He thrashed, his paws scrabbling against the smaller form that had the claws of all four of her feet dug deep into the male's dark pelt. He snarled and snapped at her every time she lunged for purchase at his neck or chest, feeling her claws tearing slowly, ever so slowly, through his flesh, leaving furrows in their wake.
He yelped as her jaws found purchase on his shoulder and her teeth raked against the muscle as he finally got his back feet dug into her injured stomach enough to encourage her claws to retract so he could fling her off. Her glowing eyes were bright and angry as she glared at him from where she'd been flung, already rising to her feet as he rolled to do so himself.

Springing to her feet she spun around and she hissed again. Her eyes darted side to side, looking for avenues of escape, but every time her eyes strayed from in, he darted in and snapped at her, distracting her, overwhelming her.
Frustrated, she leaped at him, attempting to get purchase on his back to minimize his reach and deal damage where he couldn't stop her, but she collided with him as he reared onto his hind legs and came down hard, paws landing on her ribs with crushing force, earning a strangled grunt, ending in a low, wounded yowl.
Ash's crushing landing caught him off guard, he'd meant to intercept her, but landing on her was a stroke of luck. He bore down on her and felt something loose begin to bend, earning a scream from the feline before she coughed harshly, lips curling as she twisted her head and snapped dangerously close to his forelegs.
He stepped back quickly and she rolled away with a cry, rising to her feet, panting, her sides heaving. She coughed a few more times, her ears flattening as her nose wrinkled. She started to move in tandem with him once more, the pain he'd inflicted slowing her down.
Her body trembled, she had taken a few hits and the pain was becoming more than a little uncomfortable. She backed away, growling menacingly, her teeth stained red with his blood.
Her rage gave her a second wind and she darted forward, running in a slow arc to try to get ahead of his waiting jaws, but when she leapt to the right he was there to stop her, and when she leapt to the left he met her head-on.
An angry snarl escaped her and she lashed out in a fury of swiping claws as she stood on her hind legs to make herself look bigger. He spun around and kicked his back legs out at her, hitting her in the chest and sending her sprawling.
