The reddish-orange sands of the desert seemingly stretched out endlessly before them, the lazy haze of the late morning sun making the air warp almost as if in some sort of illusion. Tyiva had decided to take a small trip in order to stretch her legs for a bit and her youngest had begged to tag along. So here they were just standing on a sand dune overlooking the final stretch of Oban desert. It would only be a short walk now to a little oasis nestled there in the center of the desert's edge before the sands began transforming themselves into more and more trees as Oba became the forests of Jahaur.

"I hope you're holding up alright." Tyiva teased lightly as she started to lead the way towards the oasis. They had walked a few long hours this morning already and now it was the perfect time to take a break. The oasis would be perfect with its crystal clear spring and the little cluster of trees that they could picnic under.

"I'm fine!" Chirped back Xylia with determination. Despite walking almost nonstop the last couple of days the youngling was enjoying herself. She had never been across this area of Oba and definitely did not remember anything of Jahaur. Exploring new territory excited her and she hoped that her mother was okay with continuing into Jahaur before they had to return back home. Now that she was older, almost ten, the girl was trying more and more to prove her growing strength and maturity. Surely going to Jahaur and surviving the dangers there would be a feat! Admittedly the sight of the oasis did remind her of her aching feet and the thought of swimming in the pool did seem rather tempting...surely a break would be fine. After all any warrior could afford a rest now and then, right?

Following her mother into the little sanctuary, Xylia wasted no time in removing her sandals and traveling pack. Slipping out of her outer robes, she also removed the scarf that was wrapped tightly around her reddish brown dreads before slipping into the waters. A little swim before lunch was always nice. Closing her eyes she kicked forward and hummed happily as she started to swim around in lazy circles before feeling bold enough to actually swim across the pool and towards the opposite side around another cluster of tall trees.

[Ujana ll 1]

Ujana had never thought about taking her children with her on trips before. At first they had simply been too young, and then when they were of age neither of her twins showed interest. Eurig, of course, had been so used to going between Jauhar and Tale by that point that travel was as much a part of him as breathing. Outside trips were out of the question, though; she wouldn't put that much stress on his young body. And Subira...well, if Ujana had known she was going to run off she might have traveled with her more.

When Ika volunteered to go with her to Oba she'd been surprised to say the least. The shift in climate was something she'd worried about with the girl. Jauhar's humidity was entirely different from the dry heat of Oba, so she'd made sure they had plenty of water with them at all times. And coverings; thin as they may be. Still, when she looked back...

"Ika, cover your shoulders! Do you want to burn?"

[Ika ll 1]

The young teenager rolled her eyes and made a show of slipping the thin shawl back over her exposed flesh. Why her mother was concerned that she would burn, despite it being barely any hotter here than it was at home, was beyond her. As soon as Ujana had turned her attention forward Ika repeated her mother's words mockingly under her breath, grouchily pushing forward with all the grace of a petulant child.

In truth she had no desire at all in going to Oba.

All she wanted was to make sure Ujana could actually handle herself. Sure, she'd traveled before, but that was a long time ago and things had changed. What if she was taken off to Yael? Or carried away on an airship? Ujana was a proven fighter, yeah, but gangs existed and while Mama Ariya wouldn't stop her Ika thought she might be able to.

A few days into the trip made her regret leaving.

At least they were closing in on an oasis. Ujana had told her about it for a few hours now, and she was beyond happy to finally see it. Until she saw...that they weren't exactly alone here.

"Great", Ika groused.

Tyiva had been in the middle of preparations for lunch whenever she heard the approaching voices. Her immediate reaction was to reach for the pair of blades resting on the edge of the blanket. Clenching them in her hands, the Alkidike crouched and made her way slowly forward to make certain that the intruders were not bandits of some sort. However, whenever she spotted that it was only two others and not a group she somewhat relaxed.

"Hello there." She called out with a nod, her posture still somewhat tense as she waited to see exactly what the pair of strangers were like. It looked like they could be related....another Alkidike hybrid? Tyiva's gaze softened somewhat at the realization. Surely they would not be a threat, right?

Xylia found herself easily distracted while she was swimming. The girl was having a lot of fun just darting through the waters like a fish of some sort and it was hard for her to notice the arrival of strangers whenever she was under the water part of the time. It was only when she emerged a third time that she heard her mother's voice calling out and she paused. Why would her mother be calling out a greeting like that? Frowning, she found herself twisting in the waters and slowly swimming back.

Once she saw the two strangers, Xyila paused shyly. Would it be a bad idea to come out now or should she wait? Still, as something brushed against her toes beneath the water's surface she found she had no choice but to dart forward with a small yelp of surprise. Flushing, she found herself closer to the pair and gave a small wave. "He-hello there."

Ujana ll 2

"Hello!" Ujana had absolutely no idea who this alk was, but she also had no reason to be unfriendly. It wasn't as if she was worried about a lone alk, anyway; especially not once she saw the little one with her. Surely even if they didn't get along there would be some kind of motherly truce, right?

"Mind if we hang around? We won't stay long, I just need to cool off." As if to illustrated her plight Ujana lifted up her thick hair and fanned the flesh at the back of her neck, hoping the sweaty mess might dry off some. Seeing the way the little one yelped and darted forward in the water made her laugh. "Aren't you a cutie.

Ika ll 2

While her mom was focused on pleasantries, Ika found a shaded little spot to drop off their supplies. She rolled her shoulders, popping her sore muscles in the process with a little frown towards her mom. Wasn't she the least bit worried about this? What kind of alk was just on their own, in the middle of a desert, with a kid? It just seemed weird.

Plus, kids were loud and annoying. Sticking around for a while wasn't exactly at the top of her list.

Rolling her eyes she meandered over to her mother's side, eyes darting over to the water every once in a while.

Tyiva smiled warmly and nodded. "There's plenty of room at the oasis so I don't see why not." Her dark gaze followed the stranger's towards her daughter and she let out a small sigh of relief. At least Xylia was out in the open so that she didn't need to worry about looking for her.

"Are you both traveling towards Oba from Jahaur?" She found herself asking after a moment while working on preparing food. "We have extra food if you're hungry." She felt no reason to be hostile towards another mother, especially one with another hybrid daughter. If anything Alkidikes who hated earthlings and hybrids made Tyiva more wary than some earthlings. And the way that the other woman was speaking with her daughter made Tyiva only relax more. Surely it should be okay.

Xylia pursed her lips at the thought of being called a cutie. Still, it didn't seem like either of the two strangers were a danger especially if her mother was content to invite them to their meal. "We're visiting Jahaur from Oba." She added as she slowly emerged from the water, her small hands reaching up to twist some water from her damp dreads. "Mama has a dear friend there so we're going to visit her." She frowned as she studied the other pair. Was the older woman the girl's mother or where they related in another way? Xylia frowned as she studied them another moment. "Neither of you seem to be from Oba so why come this way?" Who went and visited the desert for fun? Could they be doing some sort of training maybe? Her bi-colored gaze flickered towards her mother before she looked back to the strangers thoughtfully.

Ujana ll 3

"Seriously? I really go for a quick bite. Thanks." Looking over towards their supplies Ujana couldn't help noticing the way her daughter was looking at the water. Seriously? Just because there's a kid in it she won't go? Honestly, sometimes Ika could be so contrary that Ujana wanted to strangle her.

"We're basically doing the opposite. I have a close friend in Oba that I haven't seen in a long time. Believe it or not, I was basically raised in Oba. So I could have come-" Looking towards Ika, she drolled on, "-without protection."

Ika ll 3

"I wouldn't have to follow you if I could trust that you wouldn't get lost on the way." Ika groused, her tone just bitter enough for her mother to hold her hands up in mock surrender. The act did nothing to smooth over her mood so instead Ika walked towards the water, carefully skirting around the child, so that she was on the backside of the oasis. Only when she was sure to have her own space did she dip her legs in.

If she was sure her mother would actually come home then she wouldn't have come at all! It wasn't like she actually wanted to be in Oba. The further out they went the thinner the trees became and everything was so dry.

Tyiva 4

"Of course!" Tyiva smiled warmly. "I wouldn't want to leave anyone else out in the desert without offering some food." The Alkidike gave a slight shrug of her shoulders. Perhaps when she was younger she would have chased them off but now that she had grown accustomed to earthlings and had become a mother herself the Alkidike was a lot more open to interactions with the other races. Watching the interaction between the two amused Tyiva and she could only shake her head while she moved back towards her blanket and continued preparing the food.

"Sounds like the two of you are going to have a fun trip." She quipped playfully before glancing back towards the older of the pair. "So it seems like we're on opposite paths once we leave here. Maybe we'll run into each other again when we return home. My name is Tyiva and the little one over there is my daughter, Xylia."

Xylia 4

"Ah." Xylia nodded while her mother did most of the talking. It seemed that they were doing the same thing just in the opposite country! Though it seemed that the other girl was far less excited to travel. Xylia's bi-colored gaze studied her thoughtfully before she slowly walked back around and slipped back into the waters so that she could swim to a rock across from the stranger. "Do you have an Alkidike mother then?" She found herself asking as she studied the girl, her arms around the rock while her legs floated behind her.

Ujana 4

"Loads of fun." Ujana rolled her eyes and made her way over to Tyiva. "I just love traveling with a moody teenager. Honestly, my boys aren't nearly as difficult as she is." Looking over the alkidike's work, Ujana crouched down and pulled the cloak off her shoulders. "Is there anything I can help with? Not much of a cook, but I'm decent enough."

Looking back towards the little one Ujana couldn't help smiling. She was so small that it made her want to scoop the child up and smother her in love, but that wasn't a really appropriate thing to do. It was a motherly habit she'd picked up and one she'd never tried to quell. "My name's Ujana, and that's Ika. Is Xylia your only one?"
