Tyiva found herself staring out across a small clearing in the middle of Chibale. Ancient trees, great beings who stretched limbs towards the sky, created a small grove to the northern edges of the island. In the distance one could hear the gentle waves of the deep waters but other than the faint melody of a breeze the area was quiet. It was a peaceful area and so secluded that very few ever ventured into it. It was here that the new mother was relaxing after receiving news of her blooms. She had crossed almost immediately upon receiving the news of their blessing and now she waited patiently in the familiar area that she had visited so often as a child herself.

“Enjoying some peace before your life becomes a bit more chaotic?” As soon as she had spotted her old friend in their secret clearing, Danika had approached. A small smile crossed her lips and she could not help but to reach out a hand to touch Tyiva’s shoulder. “Congratulations on your blessing friend.” She had not seen Tyiva for months since she left to live in Oba with her earthling lover but it looked like the desert was treating the other Alkidike well. She was perhaps a bit more softer around the edges without the constant hunting but even Danika could tell that Tyiva still trained and kept up with her dance of the blades. It was especially apparent in the way that Tyiva did not jump in surprise whenever Danika settled down next to her on the old tree stump that they often used as a seat.

Tyiva felt her cheeks flushing but she had expected Danika’s company. If anything the presence of the mystic was welcome and familiar rather than startling. “So you say. I’m certain that you are correct in that assessment, however.” She replied with a gentle laugh. “Who would believe that Aisha would grant us such a blessing? Three blooms, Dani.” Tyiva found herself shaking her head in disbelief. “So much for my Sisters saying that earthling blood would weaken my family. Instead it seems that Aisha had given us a blessing to grow in such a number.” As an afterthought she found herself almost gasping as she glanced back towards Danika. “I’m sorry if such words seem too bold.” Surely some Alkidikes would have chastised her for such a statement, especially any of the elders.

Danika simply shook her head before leaning against her friend’s side. “I find no fault in your words. Aisha blessed you with three blooms where most mothers are thankful to just receive one daughter. ” Honestly she had noticed that it seemed whenever hybrid children had been born in recent years that the great mother did indeed give them children generously. Such a fact did not escape her notice and she had reminded others about it whenever they spoke ill of mixed relations. Even Aisha seemed to be supportive of a new peaceful era where they could coexist with the earthling races. She just hoped that their estranged Sisters would eventually learn that lesson or at least that their daughters would.

“When they bloom how do you expect to raise all three? I hope your partner is ready.” Danika teased lightly as she rested her head against Tyiva’s shoulder. “To think that you’ll be a mother. I’m truly happy for you, Tyiva.”

“Thank you.” Tyiva was appreciative of her friend’s support. Even when she had originally told Danika that she was leaving Chibale to go live in Oba for a time the mystic had been understanding. She had spent months worried about if she would ever return back to Chibale but when she had finally made the journey her friend had welcomed her back warmly. Tyiva’s family had turned their backs on her for her choice of lover but Danika never showed any disdain or hatred towards Karo. She had been loving and supportive when they sought Aisha’s blessing. While they were waiting and when Tyiva had nearly given up hope it had been Danika who had kept pushing her to give it time. And like usual her friend was correct in her beliefs as less than a week later three blooms had shown up at Aisha’s roots for them. Truly a blessing indeed.

“Karo should be ready. She was all over the place preparing the house for one child. Now that we know we are having three children she is very excited and has already made plans for their nursery and other things.” Tyiva chuckled as she tilted her head against Danika’s, her antenna twitching happily at the memory of her partner’s excitement at the news. “Finding her was one of the best blessings that my journey gave me. I am grateful that you pushed me to explore.” Her tone became more somber as she softly added. “I just hope that one day you can see my children grow into fine warriors and that my family will see the same.”

“That’s the best thing about time.” Danika mused quietly. “Anything and everything can change.” The Alkidike grinned at the thought. “I mean look at us. I’ve never seen Sisters so warm towards earthlings. Certainly some are still against certain aspects but at least we’re not cutting them down for just being in the same area as us.” She paused and held back the sigh that pressed against her lips. “I’m certain that I’ll see your children one day. You’ll have to bring them to Jahaur even if just for a short visit when they’re older.” She should be like an aunt to them but distance would create a gap that she never expected between her and her childhood friend who was almost like a blood sister more than anyone else. It almost broke her heart to lose Tyiva to Oba and now it would hurt more knowing that she would miss out on seeing her friend’s family grow. At least she is happy and it warms my soul to see it. She could never ask her friend to place her own happiness aside simply to keep her company after all. That was too selfish and Danika would never force her own feelings upon others like that.

While Danika repressed a sigh, Tyiva did not hesitate to release her own. “It seems my life was never meant to be simple. I truly am sorry that you will not get to see my children as much as you should. When we were younger we did mention how our blooms would be raised side by side if fate allowed.” She let out another wistful shy before moving a hand to tighten around Danika’s fingers. “I truly am sorry. I suppose Aisha had different plans for my path. I will do my best to let my children visit so that you may see them. I know that they are not always fond of hybrids but surely the boundary will be acceptable enough. Who knows? Maybe by the time they are old enough things will have changed even more.” Tyiva let out a soft chuckle. “If only you could see the deserts of Oba. I miss home but they have their own beauties as well.”

After a thoughtful pause, Tyiva did glance towards Danika with a small grin. “As it is I have received my blessings from Aisha but what of you? Will you ever find a bloom for yourself””

Danika’s heart twisted within her chest but she forced a smile to her lips. “One knows that you cannot always keep the wishes spoken as children. We never expected life to take us apart but here we are. Still, I am thankful that you have found your happiness even if it is outside of Chibale.” She would always miss Tyiva but just knowing she was out there brought Danika peace. It was better than remember the Sisters lost in the battle all those years ago. The thought made her lips tighten at the corners before Tyiva’s next statement had her opening them in a gasp. “Tyiva!” She protested as she pulled away from her friend sheepishly. “I surely would never have time for such a thing! Not that I wouldn’t love to receive a blessing but when would I have the time? Could I even provide the care for a child when my life is focused on my Sisters and serving Aisha?” She shook her head, her dreads bouncing with the movement. “I also do not know if I could ever find love….I do not think I would be one to ask for a bloom by myself alone after all. I would never want to do that to a child.” When would they ever get to see their mother? They would have a mystic but not the same care that others received from having families. Danika had experienced such a thing herself when Aisha gave her bloom to Eshe. She loved Eshe dearly as a mentor but she would not lie about her upbringing. It had been full of responsibilities with little room for play ever since she was a child. One day a new mystic would bloom and Danika would help to raise her as well. That surely would be as close to a daughter as she would ever be, right?

The thought made her look towards the ground with a frown. Why did Tyiva have to tease her about such things? They had been innocent children at the time and the future had been full of endless possibilities because they were young and still without a true grasp of their world.

“I’m sorry. I did not mean to cause you pain.” Tyiva replied quietly as she stood and wrapped an arm around Danika. “I was just curious. You out of all others should understand how things are not truly set in stone. Things change and our paths can always surprise us. Perhaps one day you’ll understand and realize that Aisha would never be so cruel to leave you alone.” Tyiva’s cheeks flushed as she realized her bold words but she would rather risk them so that she could comfort her friend. “Aisha’s love has no limits and I’m sure that she would never do anything to harm your happiness. You are especially blessed by her and have done so much for all of us, Danika. Don’t forget that.”

Leaning into her friend’s embrace, Danika slowly nodded her head. “You don’t have to apologize for your words.” She murmured with a small smile. “I won’t lie that the idea has crossed my mind but I’m afraid of my capabilities of a mother...nor would I feel right in asking someone to become my partner. They would have to put up with so much.” The expectations of being an ideal sister, the pressures of the Elders to not distract their leader….the list could go on. Still, Tyiva’s words did warm her heart and she squeezed her friend’s fingers happily. “Thank you. I suppose only the future will tell where my story goes.”

“I suppose that is true.” Tyiva smiled lightly before letting out a slight gasp. “Ah! I did come here with more than just words for you, Dani.” She pulled away and shifted through a satchel which she had left on the ground next to them. “I know that you love to see things from across the world and I nursed some plants from Oba for you. They love the heat but do not need too much water so please take care to keep the rains from hitting them.” Very carefully she dug out three ceramic pots from her satchel, each containing a small plant of various colors. “My favorite is the purple one.” She smiled as she handed the plant to Danika.

“Oh?” Danika raised a brow whenever her friend suggested gifts. Obvious delight spread across her features as she took the first plant from Tyiva. “It’s lovely.” She whispered as she carefully ran a fingertip across one of its purple leaves. It was smooth and such a strange texture compared to the other plants she had in Chibale. “I can add it to my little garden.” It was almost like a greenhouse, a little area she made within a large hollowed trunk that received a lot of sunlight in the morning hours while also providing shelter from the heavier rains. She had some plants from Tale and Sauti which Tyiva had brought her previously and so far they had grown up so well that she had to continuously change the ceramic pots that they nestled in.

“Good. I’m glad you like it.” Tyiva grinned. “We have many of these in our courtyard and more are actually within our home as well. I was missing the forests of Chibale and so we brought in many plants to help brighten up our home.” The Alkidike carefully set the pricklier plants before Danika. “Some have smooth leaves while others have pricklier appearances. So be careful that you do not p***k yourself.”

“Interesting.” Danika carefully placed the purple plant aside so that she could study the pricklier leaves. “I suppose that is one way for it to defend itself. Is the desert so dangerous that the plants grow like this?” Then again when she thought of some of their native plants it truly made sense. They had vines with thorns and even some plants that would eat smaller insects and the like. “I will have to do my best to keep from watering it too often since it is accustomed to the dryness of a desert.”

“Isn’t any location a bit dangerous for a plant? They cannot pick up weapons like us after all.” Teased Tyiva lightly as she handed over the second plant to Danika. “As it is I really hope that they grow well for you. I will have to keep bringing you more from different regions throughout the years.” Even if she did not plan on visiting her blood family she could at least visit her friend who was more a sister than others. “Would you like help moving them to your garden? I am doing nothing these days besides waiting on my own blooms to blossom while my partner runs about preparing for three babies instead of one.”
