At first Pyrrha wasn't quite sure that moving closer to the village was a good idea. The last time she'd lived so close to her sisters she'd been ostracized and instead of fostering bonds the tight quarters had only pushed everyone to their brink. Now that her latest 'home' was set up within a short walk of everyone elses she felt...strangely more at peace. That sense of apprehension only lasted so long; after all, the elarians she was with now weren't as aggressive, and Kanika's family had already proven themselves far kinder to her than her own so...what was the harm? Of course she still did her travels into the wilderness, sometimes for weeks on end, but somehow she always managed to find her way back.

And now that she'd grown closer to Kanika...well, she had more of a reason to stick around. Pyrrha found herself eagerly seeking out the other elarian everytime she came back to the village. Unfortunately there were times when Kanika herself was out doing some exploring, but instead of moving on and going about her business Pyrrha found herself waiting. Over time she'd developed a sort of routine; go out for a bit, come back, wait to spend some time with Kanika and then go back again. The feeling of worms in her heart making her veins wiggle everytime the other woman was around was both exhilarating and terrifying all at once. She never wanted it to stop!

Years passed in a sort of twilight bliss and then, all at once, the Elidae came.

Pyrrha was in love. She'd always adored children, even if the Alkidike tried to keep her away from them lest Pyrrha's mental problems infect them. They were just so sweet and innocent; completely free of corruption and hate. Such sweet, pudgy faces and the smallest of antennae....So, naturally, when Kanika's own sister was blessed with a daughter of her own Pyrrha couldn't help getting excited.

Especially once she was actually allowed to babysit. At some point surely Zayana would shoo her away or stop her from dropping random 'gifts' off (oddly shaped shells, roots with a spiritual meaning, a dead fish, etc.) but until then Pyrrha was happy to spoil the girl.

Even now she was in her home working on a project. Not once in her entire life had she been tempted to learn weaving, but after speaking with some of the locals Pyrrha had taken it up as a hobby. With any luck she could make a thick, plush rug for the little one to play on, but in all actuality if it could look less like the mess it actually was she would be happy.

Things had settled so nicely for Kanika, she was glad she’d finally left Yael to experience the world and everything it had to offer. Family bonds had been fixed… Somewhat, but she knew they’d never return to the same. Not for herself nor for Zandala it seemed. They’d never spoken about what had transpired all those years ago and she doubted it would ever be addressed. They’d each dealt with their own emotions and relationships with her sister and Lumi, but had never had spoken to each other about it. Kanika didn’t think the old scars were worth mentioning anymore, not with so much to look forward to.

It seemed only like yesterday that Kanika had had that talk with Pyrrha before whisking her away to a better place. And only mere days since they’d decided to be together. Not in the normal sense, not in any sense that anyone else would understand, but it fit them both perfectly. They didn’t wear each other down; they did not chain each other to the village at their side. Each was free to go as they pleased, always excited to go out and explore but just as eager to return to see the other one. At least, that’s how Kanika felt.

Next thing she knew, children were blooming. The Elidae were born and Kanika couldn’t help but get excited. Zayanna was blessed and Kanika decided to spend a bit more time at home with the family. Pyrrha seemed to be just as enamored by the baby girl as she was and Kani thought maybe… perhaps… They could? She wasn’t sure, they weren’t exactly well… She was perfectly happy with the way things were now and a child would change that wouldn’t it? She wouldn’t be able to travel as much.

Was that really such a bad thing?

The thoughts had traveled with Kanika on her latest journey and she decided to cut her travels short to return home to seek out Pyrrha. They made her slightly antsy, but excited. Still, she didn’t know how Pyrrha would react, did she want children? She adored Nayyara, but did that mean she wanted any of her own? To say Kanika obsessed over all the answers and possibilities was an understatement. Gathering a gift for Pyrrha, Kanika headed home as quickly as she could barely making stops or resting. There was a nervous energy about her, she didn’t know what Pyrrha would say.

Kanika briefly knocked before she entered the home. “I’m home,” she called softly spying Pyrrha working on some weaving. She removed her travel bags and dumped them by the door before heading for her. Kani planted a kiss on Pyrrha’s temple before observing the work.

“Oh, this is looking nice.” Kani gave her a gentle squeeze on the shoulder before getting her travel bag and went back to settle next to the other Elaria. “I’ve got something for you.” She removed some fabric she’d gathered from a shop before coming home. It was a vibrant blue-green color with a slight sheen when you moved it in the light.

It was hard, exactly, to describe how Pyrrha felt when Kanika came home. At first she'd been so engrossed in her work that she'd barely noticed anyone else was around; that is, until she heard her girlfriend's voice. Or was it lover? What sort of thing did one normally use for this type of relationship? They were already living together and she wasn't seeking company outside of Kanika so... Regardless Pyrrha's heart immediately lightened as if it had been taken over by a swarm of miniature nondwa and flown into the clouds once the other elarian came home. She couldn't stop smiling as soon as she caught sight of her. Was this how love was supposed to feel? Pyrrha worried that at some point it might fade away, that Kanika wouldn't come back home and would simply tire of her in favor of someone more...normal, but here she was. Their dynamic wasn't traditional in the least, but maybe it was because of the changes they made that it just seemed to work. It allowed the women to still be themselves and yet...be together as well.

"The vines told me you would come back soon. I'm glad; if I hadn't listened to I may have missed you." Receiving and giving affection was still pretty new for Pyrrha. Even now, moments after the chaste kiss, she still mulled it over in her mind. Pyrrha couldn't help thinking how much she liked that sort of openness and how glad she was to be here, where she just could bask in it all, instead of being forgotten in a hut back home.

"You're being kind," Pyrrha laughed and lifted her fingers to run them over the gnarled mess of a rug. While the work itself was soft it was riddled with missed loops and bore obvious struggles. "I wanted to make a play rug for Nayyara, but now I'm worried that she'll get tangled in it. What do you think?" Pyrrha turned away from her project to watch her girlfriend, antennae flickering in curiosity.

A gift? For her? The elarian's antennae frilled with an eager excitement. She wasn't quite sure what to expect, but this made her gasp. "Oh, Kanika, it's lovely." Pyrrha reached up to lift a length of the fabric and watched in amazement as the hue shifted every time she moved a finger. "It looks like starlight captured in an ocean's wave. Where did you find it?"

“They spoil my surprise,” Kanika teased with a smile on her face. “But I’m glad you’re still home.” Not only because she’d wanted to talk to her, but because Kanika genuinely enjoyed Pyrrha’s presence around their home. She brought life to it, something she missed when she wasn’t around and would dearly miss if Pyrrha decided to live elsewhere someday. Kani pushed the thought away quickly, no time for such dark thoughts.

Kanika observed the rug. “No, I think this is by far your best work so far.” And she was sure she’d only get better at it from here. “To be fair however, I am sure she will want to undo it for fun. If she gets tangled in it, it will be of her own doing.” The Elaria gave a small laugh as she pictured her niece playing with the rug.

Secretly, Kanika loved every reaction Pyrrha had to the world around her. It warmed her and brought her joy. “I met up with some Kaha’iko merchants while I was traveling by boat. They had some lovely items on hand. I thought you might like this one.” And indeed, it did seem like Pyrrha was incredibly pleased with the gift, Kanika grinned.

How did one approach the subject of children? Well, they were already in it, sort of… Kanika didn’t want to ruin what they already had, part of her was afraid if she said anything that it would forever change them, whatever the answer. Still, she was happy when she was with Pyrrha and she knew she would make a great mother. But her freedom, Pyrrha’s freedom… That would be different, they couldn’t simply do as they pleased anymore. No more traveling on long voyages, no more nights spent on boats or striking up a conversation with some of the native folk by the campfire.

“Have any more children been born? Or others blessed?” She asked innocently, watching Pyrrha’s reaction to the subject.

[3/10]

Pyrrha rose to fully take hold of the fabric. She lowered a length of it against her thigh, watching as the shimmering cloth rippled with every movement. "I had no idea they could make such amazing creations. I've got so many ideas on what to make that I don't know where to start." Maybe Kanika would enjoy some new clothing? Or, maybe, she should make some for herself, considering this had been a gift...or maybe just a little something for Nayyara.

"Oh, yes, a few have sprouted since you've been gone. Not many, though; two, I think? Or maybe it was three?" Pondering on it, Pyrrha folded the fabric, but still kept it close to her chest, as if she were afraid that once she let go it would slip away. "Definitely three. All for Nikoma and Vera." The pair had always seemed a little off to Pyrrha, but now she knew why. They'd never really been as extreme as some of the other elaria back home, and now that they were here the two were free to be themselves. They were kind, if a little reserved, and Pyrrha was genuinely happy for their new little family.

"I wish you'd been able to see their faces. No one expected three; least of all them! And would you like to know the best part about it?" At this Pyrrha was nearly bouncing on the balls of her feet. She'd always had to tamper her excitement, but not now and definitely not in front of Kanika. "They said I could help watch them! I'm so happy, Kanika! I get to help with four wonderful little girls and I just can't believe it." It's all she ever wanted and more!

"It wouldn't be all the time, but still...it just makes me so happy that....well that others want me around their girls. That they aren't afraid I'll make them like me."

“Maybe we can travel together at some point and I can show you the vendor. They have a lot of other really beautiful things, it was hard only choosing one.” Kanika felt so giddy inside, she was so, so pleased that it had lived through her travels. She hadn’t exactly gone easy on the fabric since she’d pushed her travel time to shorten it as much as possible.

“Ah that is great news!” Three was most definitely a great number! They’d been greatly blessed it seemed. She’d have to congratulate them when she saw them next. Little ones were always a good reason to celebrate. She wondered how many they would be blessed with if they decided to ask.
Pyrrha’s excitement was intoxicating and Kanika couldn’t help but have a big goofy grin on her face. She gently gripped her partner's hand and shook it a bit, she was so happy.

“That’s even better news! They’ll definitely need a helping hand with three little pens running about.” Kani still couldn't believe they’d been blessed with three little ones. One or two was the usual norm, and three wasn’t super rare but it wasn’t common either.

Kanika’s heart skipped a beat. “There’s nothing wrong with you,” she insisted and pulled Pyrrha close so she could whisper. “And I’m lucky to have you by my side...” The Elaria waited a bit. Did she ask? She was so nervous about it all! “And to have you help me raise our own little ones.” Her cheeks reddened, she didn’t know why she felt so awkward about such a thing! Ridiculous. Still, would the implications that Kani wanted kids with Pyrrha be clear? She quietly waited to see how she’d react.

Pyrrha melded easily to Kanika's side and reveled in her warmth. There was nothing she enjoyed more than wrapping her arms around her lover and squeezing as if the woman would just disappear. At first it had been something she actually thought possible; that if she closed her eyes Kanika would run off. Now, though...now she knew they were truly bonded.

For a moment she closed her eyes and was just happy to have it, to listen to Kanika's sweet words in her ears until something she said caused Pyrrha's eyes to pop. "Little ones? Of our own?" The way she said it was almost quizzical, as if the concept were as foreign to her as frogs not talking and vines that didn't climb on their own.

"You would...want to have daughters with me?"

Motherhood....I can really be a mother. The concept alone was enough to bring moisture to Pyrrha's eyes. She wasn't outright crying yet, but it felt...so absolutely warming to hear. "I never really thought I would be wanted as a partner...much less allowed to be a mother. My own would have stopped at all costs to keep me from it." Kou would have rather seen her own daughter buried in the very swamp Pyrrha called home than to allow her anywhere near Elzira.

But now...now things had changed and Pyrrha couldn't stop smiling. "Yes, a thousand times yes, Kanika! I've never wanted anything more in my life, and I couldn't be happier to share it with you." All of her short comings Kanika's braveness and sheer determination would more than make up for, and hopefully some of Pyrrha's natural wonder would rub off on them. Their daughters would be raised in love, not fear, and not just by them but by the community at large.

"I can't wait to see them. Little girls with big, bright eyes and blossom markings just like yours."

“Ah Pyrrha,” Kanika pulled her into a tight hug. It always saddened her when Pyrrha spoke about her family and what had happened back on Yael. She didn’t understand how someone’s own family could do such a thing, not after her own family had been so loving. They weren’t perfect mind you, but never would her mothers have done anything to harm their daughters. Kanika realised then that she would never allow them near Pyrrha or their future daughters ever, even if they came in peace. Every day she thanked the trees that she had taken her away from that.

“You make me so happy.” Kanika pulled back a little to kiss her. “I hope they have your wonder at the world and your excitement.” She smiled at the thought of her children having the blossom markings she’d inherited from Zandala. “I can’t wait to start this journey with you, and now we need to celebrate!” She wasn’t sure how, but she was itching to do something, anything. “We’re going to have to expand the house, and make sure we have enough food storages.”

"It's okay now," Pyrrha said through her smile, despite the tears that were starting to fall. Her lip quivered, but despite it all she really was happy. It was just so much to take in all at once! "Really! I miss Pruu so much and Nivalis, but they're always in my heart. I'm so much happier here with you and your family. It's been like a dream."

She'd been content to wipe her eyes, but then Kanika was giving her a little kiss, and really, how could she not kiss her back? "Oh! Oh! And this-" Stepping away from Kanika, Pyrrha went back to the lovely length of cloth she'd been given and raised it in her arms. "-I know exactly what to make now. The girls will need clothes, and I think something from your travels would be best. They'll - oh, do you think we'll be blessed with two? Or is that too much to hope for? I'd be fine with just one, but I'm a twin so I just assumed."

Kanika gently wiped away the stray tears with her thumbs. “I’m happy I stole you away.” She teased lightly, because technically that’s exactly what had happened. It sounded bad said like that but it had been the best thing that had happened to both of them.

“I’m a twin as well, so we may very well be blessed with too,” Kanika watched Pyrrha with a smile. She liked the idea of having twins as well, just like her sister and herself. “We can always go back to the place I got the fabric and buy more. They will definitely need clothing and that won’t be enough.” It wasn’t too far from here, perhaps a day away.

“I’ll have to tell my family as well.” Lumikani and Zandala would become grandmothers, her sister an aunt and Nayyara a cousin! Yes a small gathering with family and friends would be nice to have once they confirmed they’d been blessed. To which, Kanika had no doubt they would be.

Pyrrha took up Kanika's hand and placed a chaste kiss to her palm before moving in closer. "I wonder what Nayyara will think? I'll never be too busy to spoil her, but she will have to share." She always wondered if the girl liked her so much simply because Pyrrha's one goal in life was to shower her in gifts and affection or if she just genuinely liked her. That would be put to the test if they were blessed! She might not spend as much time around her Aunts if there were little cousins to hunt her down.

"Do you think your mothers would approve? I've not really had much of a chance to speak with Lumikani, and Zandala may have spent too much time with me on our journey here." She chuckled.

“I think she’ll be happy to have little cousins to run around and play with.” She indeed would have to share the affection that Pyrrha gave her., Kanika chuckled wondering how that would go down.

“I think both will approve, and even if they didn’t that would not stop us.” Because she wouldn’t let anything get between them or the pair having children of their own. “Zandala likes you,” Kanika chuckled. “She might not have been onboard in taking you away with us, but she’s warmed up to you.” She was sure Zandala even thought of Pyrrha as her own child. “I’m sure Lumikani likes you too.” Though she didn’t spend that much time with Lumi anymore.

“Do you think your family would have approved of me?” While Pyrrha’s family was far far away, she wondered what they would have thought of her.

[8/10]

"No, I don't think it would." She laughed. With their determination combined nothing could stop the elarians, and in this Pyrrha wouldn't back down. She was so close to having one of her greatest dreams realized, and while their young goddess might very well refuse them she would at least try! "The stars have been clear for weeks and now I know why. They were making a path for us."

Ah yes, the stars were in perfect alignment and Pyrrha hadn't known why at first. It had come as a great surprise to her, when the toads had first told her, but now it was all so very clear. She couldn't have asked for a clearer sign! "You say that now, but she may think differently when you tell her I'm about to raise her granddaughter." Still, it was nice to hear that Zandala thought well of her. She quite like the alkidike as well.

Hearing about her own family made her purse her lips. "Pruu would have. She would be very happy that you're a dedicated warrior, but also still so kind to me. Myrcella....well, she would have thought you'd been dropped as an infant." It was harsh, but true. Fassala would have liked you well enough, but Kou..."

The silence said it all. Her mother, Kou, was one of the harshest alkidike she knew. She was the one thing that still set Pyrrha's nerves on edge to this day and she knew that the simple fact that Kanika had chosen Pyrrha would have marked her as worthless in her eyes.
