Name: Caius Heckle

Nickname: Cai

Gender/Pronoun: He/Him

Age: 16

Birthday: September 29 2004

Sign: Libra

Gemstone: Sapphire

Blood Type: A-

Fav. Food: Chocolate Milk

Hated Food: N/A

School/Occupation: Private School

Hobbies:

Upcycling - Caius was not born into privilege or wealth, and that means he understands the value of how important things are. When something breaks, you have to fix it. Caius is not a minimalist by choice, and he's had things for so long that he's developed emotional attachments to them. Nearly everything he's owned is no longer in its original form and he's done his best to preserve everything and give it new life. He mostly upcycles clothes to give them a fresh look and make them his own, but there's no end to what he'll work with.

Studying - Caius spends as much time at the library as he can; he is constantly researching or studying something. He stays on top of his school work to the best of his ability and is constantly studying to improve himself. He needs to get his foot in the door, quickly, so he is constantly pushing himself to do better and open more doors. Not all of his studies are so literal; he also studies art and techniques, and likes to research things that interest him.

Art - Art is in his blood, and Caius can't keep himself from it. It helps that it's also a marketable talent. He's been drawing since he was small and puts his heart and soul into everything he does. He takes on commissions typically digitally but depending on the event and whatever resources he has available has done traditional as well. He enjoys painting more than anything else but when time and resources permit, he likes to push himself to create in whatever way he can. He is always looking for inspiration, and always looking to improve.

Virtues:

Independent - Because Caius has difficulty trusting others, he often relies on himself. He has done his best to learn what he needs to do in order to survive and succeed in life and often goes out of his way to take care of things himself. He is hard working and resourceful and if he doesn't know the answer, he knows if he works hard enough he can find it. He works very hard to be as useful and non-intrusive as possible.

Reliable - When Caius sets a goal, he keeps to that goal. If he makes a promise, he sticks to it. He's a creature of habit and once he is set in his ways and has a routine he tends to stick to it. He doesn't make friends easily and tends to be incredibly loyal to anyone who earns his trust. If he makes a promise, he means to keep it.

Clever - Caius is often thinking on his feet; his creativity doesn't extend to just his art but often results in him trying to think outside of the box to tackle problems from different perspectives. He is flexible and adaptive, and his craftiness allows him a range of versatility when met with an obstacle.

Just - Caius has strong morals and tries to combat things he perceives as unfair. He has strong morals and keeps to them. He does not like to get involved in issues but he can't help but step in when he feels necessary. He can be very protective, mostly towards people he cares for or people he sees as weakened or unable to fend for themselves.

Flaws:

Perfectionist - Nothing he does is ever good enough. He nitpicks and overextends himself constantly. Caius is incredibly self-conscious and is petrified by the thought of letting someone down or misrepresenting himself or his abilities. He can make himself sick just by worrying about things or trying to achieve absolute perfection. He has a need to be the best that he can be--and the best in general. He can be extremely competitive as a result.

Jaded - A lot of people have let Caius down, and he's reached the point where he has a difficult time trusting anyone. He is cautious around meeting new people and people in positions of power especially. He doesn't trust that anyone means what they say or are honest with their intentions. He is distrusting, and as a result is also very private and secretive, himself. This often leads to him appearing shady or callous and does not earn him many friends.

Lonely - Because Caius distrusts most people and considers himself the only reliable aspect of his life, he tends to focus on himself more than others. He thinks his priority and well-being need to be first for him because no one else will look out for him. He is often by himself because he can relax, but it has lead to a very lonely and solitary lifestyle. He isn't good at voicing his emotions and bottles up most of his concerns, worries and feelings. He carries a sadness that sometimes leaves him cranky, desperate, or disinterested.

Possessive - Caius doesn't have much, so what he does have, he treasures. He doesn't like to share and doesn't trust that anyone will treat him, his belongings, or his friends as well as he will. He is constantly afraid of people using his thoughts or his secrets against him, and he is as afraid of people important to him being hurt just as much as he is afraid of someone winning them over and taking them away from him. To this extent, he can also be jealous and paranoid.

Knight Title: Starlight, Page of Polaris (Link leads to the mountain range but lists the mountain and coordinates)

Challenge: ???

Uniform: Will work with artist!

Weapon & Magic

Page Weapon: An elegant paintbrush

Squire: A two foot long paintbrush with an ornate handle.
Magic: When Starlight channels his magic, he must 'paint' a path on the ground. He can paint a path within thirty feet of him and can target a single opponent at a time, ally or enemy, and they will feel a magnetic pull to the track he has painted. The magic will guide them along the path, compelling them to follow it. While it is possible to resist the urge, the magic will always have a magnetic pull. The magic pool lasts for 40 seconds at a time and he can keep painting a track until the pool ends or he can paint a cyclical track for them to follow (such as a circle) until the end of the magic. He cannot force anyone into a life threatening situation unless the player desires, and the target can always resist and struggle to slow the pull or to break away from the track completely.

Hello m'dear!

For the most part Caius is looking peachy but, from a practical point of view I need to be 'that guy' and point out that one of his hobbies is technically possible at his current age (or at least all of it). For Caius to be able to accept digital commissions he would need to have a means of receiving that money and as services such as Payoneer/Paypal are all considered middle-men/third parties rather than banks, they all require their users to be over 18 due to signing contracts that are legally binding.

Can you talk me through out he's able to get passed that so that I can get in to the same headspace? This one is a little bit pedantic but it's just something I wanted to sense check.

His challenge is also empty at the moment on his powered form; is this intended or just forgotten? I appreciate there's every chance some one may actually want this on their cert, just wanted to check. xD;

I don't usually get certs so left the challenge blank because there is a separate form to fill out when posting for one! If I get a cert, I will fill out my selected challenge on the form.

I didn't want to bloat the hobby by explaining the commission situation, but for clarification I had considered the following:

  • Taking RL Cash for digital commissions during events; this is common at conventions I attend and the cash is exchanged over the course of the convention either before or after the art is completed depending on artist's information. There are often local art shows and events that offer similar opportunities! I have give given many friends that I trusted cash to commission them rather than use Paypal/a money transfer service/online banking, so it seemed reasonable that this could also be done for him.

  • Because he is 16, while he could use a legal guardian's Paypal, I wanted him to have to take other routes of payment, which include 'Buy this off my wishlist' and/or payment through use of digital gift cards. It was my intention that this method is something a teenager would logically pursue, given age restrictions. This method would not come without issues, such as scamming/lack of payment/no ability to take action for lack of payment. He would not be using Paypal/a money transfer service/an online banking method until of legal age.

  • When I was in high school, there were local businesses and programs affiliated with the school that offered monetary compensation for art submissions; these needed the parent's permission and needed for the child to be enrolled in a local school to be considered. I considered it would be reasonable for him to also enter in contests and programs such as these, which had the option to pay in checks and/or in the case of contests may have just awarded other prizes. For example, my local library often had contests for students where they could win scholarships, grants, expensive school supplies (like laptop computers or tablets), etc, so I factored in that there are legitimate operations that don't require an actual age restricted payment method. While I do not unrealistically expect him to win many competitions, things like this did make me consider that there were other methods of payment outside of traditional commission means such as PayPal.

If you have more questions, please let me know!
