Alas, the dog days of summer were gone. The season was on its last leg, teetering on the orange and brown precipice of autumn and pumpkin spice. Not that one of Destiny City's newest residents really had any lackadaisical days in her favorite time of year, but Nakhett Aldricks wasn't about to let it go out with a whimper. More of a firecracker laced with napalm, really. You know, fun stuff.

Sunlight sparkled in a thousand gleaming gems on the surface of the reservoir, reflected in dazzling effect by dark sunglasses set above a smile just as radiant. There was something about the water that just made the young woman excited. Sure, it wasn't the ocean and it didn't really have much in the way of surfable waves, but there was plenty that could be done on a lake. After all, Nakhett had moved to Destiny City because the megalopolis was the place to be right now. There was always something going on, and she liked to be right in the thick of the action.

Dressed in a breezy shirt tied over her dark bikini, the newcomer flicked her long crimson ponytail into submission behind her shoulder and flung herself out of her Slingshot with gusto. It was times like this that she could really appreciate not having doors on her autocycle. She was ready to move to her trailer full of beach fun when a squeaking sound gave her momentary pause. What? A sandal lifted slowly and pressed gingerly to the gently sifting sand.

Squuuuuueeeeeeeak.

"That is... weird," Nakhett admitted aloud.

Each step was accompanied by the strange noise, but she couldn't fathom the reasoning behind it. Oh well, at least the beach was gorgeous. Shrugging, the woman moved to her trailer and began to unload all of her equipment. A volleyball, net, and posts. Inflatable raft platforms, mini anchors, and a long knotted rope. Brightly colored buoys.

Her surfboard and wetsuit stayed put for the time being, as did her newly-acquired wakeboard. Nakhett wasn't sure anyone would want to jump into the inflatable mud wrestling ring, so she left it for now... later, perhaps. The waterbike rentals had been paid in advance, and were all ready to go at the docking area a short ways down the beach. If people were interested in wakeboarding, a boat rental would be just as easy to secure. All that was left was to set up.

Never a fan of a party of one, Nakhett had wasted no time in posting fliers advertising the beach party all about the high-traffic areas of her new home. Even if they didn't want to get into the water, no one could really resist free grilled food and soft drinks on the beach. All she had to do was wait, time she filled with setting up the volleyball court and inflating everything else. Aquatic tug-of-war, waterbike slalom, wakeboarding? That was the definition of a great time.

Still beaming in anticipation, Nakhett made her second trip back to the trailer and huffed with effort at lifting a massive combination cooler and storage container. If enough people didn't show, she'd have hot dogs and chips covered for the next month!

Regula

At first they had ignored it. Minor events of the scale they had predicted didn't necessarily require their attention. However, as the morning had ramped up it became abundantly clear that something was going on. The roads had become more packed, families were bustling back and forth, and eventually the traffic that should have subsided (and hadn't) had attracted the attention of the nearby precinct.

...It seemed that the event they had thought would be small had actually turned out to be surprisingly popular. With nothing better to do with their morning, the pair who had been designated to office work had raised their hands and offered to be the friendly neighbourhood law enforcement for the event. The intention wasn't so much to be intimidating, as it was to keep an eye out for any unsavoury individuals who might take the opportunity to make the event less enjoyable.

It was an easy patrol, and the pair were practically skipping as they moved towards the beach.

"You know it wasn't that long ago we were sweating bullets and staring at nothing out here?" Vincent was chattering merrily in his ear as they strode through the now filled parking lot and towards the beach.

"True enough," he remembered that day, they'd both ended up rationalising ice cream as they stared out at the otherwise uneventful scenery. He wouldn't be against a similar experience today, but he'd not count his chickens before they hatched in this respect.

"Wonder if I can get away with taking part in some of the stuff," Vincent added, something that caused Regula to lift a brow.

"We'll see how quiet it is first," he replied, though he did crack half a smile as they drew closer to the sand and heard that now very strange and familiar squeak that some tourists still stared at in a comical and incredulous fashion...

Liliane

With the summer quickly coming to a close this was going to be one of her last chances to entertain herself. Any excuse for a party was one that the red head couldn't pass up. In a few short weeks she would be back for the next semester of university and that would require her to buckle up and focus.

She wasn't the best of swimmers, but when it came to trying new things she was rather inclined to grab them by the horns. It could all go terribly for her, or in the end it might actually pay off. She could learn some skills or break an arm. If the arm got broken then at the very least she would receive a brief reprieve from significant homework, she'd just have to ensure she ended up murdering the right one.

Thus, it came at no surprise that she confidently strode on to the sand and made her way towards the middle of the beach. All around her families were getting set up, some parents preferring to relax nearby while their children participated, while others who were much more mature like herself were simply there to have fun with their friends.

Not everything had been set up of course, they all had plenty of opportunities to settle in, but she could at least see a couple of the things starting to take shape. She made a mental note of one or two that caught her interest, she'd sign up for the volleyball at least, but she'd have to see what her competition was like for things like the tug-o-war first... she needed to be strategic about that one.
