A modest building located on the outskirts of the city, the Applegate Ranger Outpost primarily focuses on keeping order within the Rowling Forest. They offer escorts for people requiring safe passage to Nix City and also offer a variety of survival lessons for travelers, including how to safely gather food and water and how to avoid disturbing aggressive Pokémon within the forest. They even offer rock climbing lessons at the nearby coast, for those seeking more of a thrill.
As with any of their other locations, the outpost here in Applegate also serves as an emergency treatment center for injured persons or Pokémon, and even handles certain requests that require their expertise. If you ever find yourself in an emergency, please contact your local ranger station. Safe travels!

Bug Catching Contest
In addition to its other services, the Applegate Ranger Outpost is proud to host the city's monthly Bug Catching Contest! A fun-filled event that is loved by all, the contest thrusts its participants into the depths of the Rowling Forest, where they will compete with one another to catch the most impressive bug type Pokémon they can find! The best of the bugs will then be carefully selected by a panel of judges including Nurse Joy, Ranger Stark, Master Yamamoto from the local dojo, and even Applegate City's very own Mayor Janet! Go test your catching skills and win yourself some prizes! But most importantly: Have Fun!
(Trainers are allowed to do a PRP for the contest once a month. The entry fee is 2,000 Pokédollars and you will be provided with a Fresh Water as well as 20 Sport Balls which can only be used on bug type Pokémon found within the forest. Any attempt to catch a Blue or Red Level Pokémon will require an RNG dice roll to determine if the capture is a success.
You may roll a 4 sided die once per post, with a 3 or a 4 successfully catching you a Blue Level Pokémon. Red Level Pokémon can only be caught with a 4. If you fail a catch, your next attempt will have a slightly higher success rate, with a Blue Level now being caught with a 2, 3 or 4 and a Red Level being caught with a 3 or 4. The odds will increase like this with each failed attempt, which means that at most a Red level Pokémon can be caught within 4 posts. While you may only be able to roll for a single Blue or Red Pokémon per post, regular Pokémon can be caught freely and will still contribute to your score. You may not catch more than five Pokémon per post.
Once you have either ran out of balls or returned to the outpost, the contest will be over and your score will be tallied up. Regular Pokémon will earn you 1 point each, Blue Pokémon are worth 3 points each and Red Pokémon are worth a whopping 10 points a piece. 5 points places you in 3rd place and wins you a Sun Stone, 10 points will see you in 2nd place with a Pokémon Grooming Kit as your prize, and 15 points will win you the contest and your choice of a Tyrogue, Skarmory or Castform as your prize. Regardless of how well you do, all contestants will receive a Fast Ball for participating. Have fun out there!)

Regal estimated that about ten or so other people were participating in the bug catching contest with him. A mix of locals and tourists, each contestant was given twenty of the special Sport Balls as well as a bottle of Fresh Water to keep themselves hydrated as they journeyed into the forest. An entry fee was usually required, but the rangers had waived the fee for Regal as thanks for all of his help setting up yesterday. They encouraged him to simply go out and have fun.
Yamamoto, who was serving as one of the judges for the competition, explained the rules to the participants as they all took their supplies. They would be judged on both the number of bug Pokémon caught, and how strong said Pokémon were. The numbers would be tallied after everyone had returned to the outpost, but there was no actual time limit. Which meant they were all free to stay in the forest until all twenty of their balls had been used.
With the master's explanation finished, Ranger Stark gave the official go ahead for everyone to begin. Regal watched as some contestants took off running, while others hopped on flying Pokémon to get to the forest even faster. Lucky for him, the trainer had an even better method for getting to the forest. Releasing Jarvis from his Pokéball, Regal had the Porygon use Teleport and felt chills go up his spine as his body was transported away from the outpost. Next stop: Rowling Forest.

With an impressive score of twenty six points, Yamamoto and the other judges were proud to announce Regal as the latest winner of Applegate City's bug catching contest. As the winner, the trainer was awarded his choice between three different prize Pokémon. It might have been the easiest decision that Regal had ever made. Among the choices offered to him was a very rare find known as Castform, which the trainer recognized as being one of the few man-made Pokémon in existence. He had heard of them before, but Regal had never imagined that he would get a Castform of his own over the course of his journey. It made all the hard work in the forest worth it.
Pleased with Regals work, Yamamoto rewarded the trainer's efforts by teaching Jarvis and Sylvain how to use Mimic and Synthesis. He also remarked that with her evolution into a Ribombee, Magnolia would be a fine choice to use in the trainers upcoming gym battle. For now though, his work for the day was done. While he still expected Regal to do his drawing exercises before bedtime, Master Yamamoto decided to give the younger man the rest of the evening off. That being said...
"The bathhouse seems to be having some trouble." The master informed him. "Apparently the women's side has had multiple complaints of some sort of unexplainable presence and flashing lights. They suspect it might be a ghost type Pokémon or something of that nature. I was going to look into it myself, but would you be interested in doing it instead? It's a paying job."
"I can look into it." Regal offered. "I was thinking of taking a soak anyways after all that running around in the forest, so it's not like I would be going out of my way. Besides, I have just the thing for this kind of situation"
Opening up his backpack, the trainer sifted through his belongings for a hot minute before producing a high tech set of headgear. In reality, it was a Silph Scope that he had purchased back in Nix City, and it was specifically developed for detecting ghost type Pokémon. As long as he had it, there would be no escaping his sight. That ghost was as good as caught.
