Jaguars Jaguar Reproduction Facts Reproduction For Our Purpose:
Courting: Partners will often eat and travel together. The (dominant) partner is to show he can provide and protect. The (submissive) partner will often help take care of the needs of the (dominant) partner. A few days prior to mating, the (dominant) partner will often place a mark of intention. This is a small mark placed usually om the collar bone. It creates a temporary bond between partners that allows the (dominant) partner a way to check up on the (submissive) and get basic information. If they are not claimed by the end of a heat cycle, the mark usually fades.
Heat Cycle: Jaguars will enter into a heat cycle once every 47 days for 3 to 5 days. If a pair has marked each other with the intention of being mates, it is very rare that a full claiming will not take place. When the (submissive) mate is fully claimed, the mark of intention will be rebit. Once it is healed, it will often look like a tattoo that means something special to the one who placed it. The bond between them becomes stronger allowing for shared energy and to be able to sense each other's general location, feelings, and health. Partners will mate as often to three to five times a given day.
If there is a pregnancy, partners will not enter into another heat cycle for the duration of two years.
Gestation: 7 Months.
Month 1 - 3: Month 4- 6: Month 7:
Litter Size: Twins are common, up to four.
Life Stages For Our Purpose:
Infant (Birth to 12 Months) Care:
All primary basic care needs are provided by the (Submissive) Partner for the first two months. The (dominant) Partner becomes very protective over the den sight and will provide for the other why they are recovering. The (dominant) partner will help but leaves most of the early care to the (submissive) partner.
The Den: Cubs will often stay in the protective Den with the (submissive) partner for the six weeks before the (submissive) partner will take them out on short trips.
Weaning:Infants will usually suckle exclusively five to six months before starting to need more food.
Independence (18 Months):
Care: The (dominant) partner will now be more of an active participant, instead of a passive care provider. Now that the cubs are out of the den more, they will often teach them all the little skills they need.
The Den: The den is usually abandoned until the next litter is born at this point, as the cub's world is expanded.
Shifting: Young cubs will often shift for the first time at this stage. They may hold their alternate form for a period of an hour before shifting back. The time period will gradually increase as they gain more control. By 3.5 years they could stay up to a whole day in their alternate forum if they wanted to.
Cycle: By age two, the partners now begin to have regular heat cycles again. They have a 1 in 10 chance of becoming pregnant with another litter.
Maturity:
Females: Females begin to mature between 12 and 13. At this point, they now become aware of their other self and start "hearing" their instincts at this time. Males: Males begin to mature between 13 and 14. At this point, they now become aware of their other self and start "hearing" their instincts for the first time. Courting: Cubs will often play at courting at this time, practicing for the time when they will begin to look for mates of their own. First Cycle: Cubs will often have their first cycle 47 days after their eighteenth year. Although few cubs actually find and claim a mate until a few cycles later. This is due to the fact as the first one is often confusing and catches them off guard, or the fact that their mate of choice may not have matured yet.
