"Tell mew about space."
Lawrence Dunn set up the telescope carefully, minding every little bit of the assemmbly with practiced eye, and Cherish regarded her father with surprise, sipping a can of apple soda.
"Space?" She repeated. "I opnly viosited Limosa. And Limosa's... Dead. TRhe air's dead, there's no seafulls, nothing but brine and stagnance and a lot of ships."
"Ships." Lawrence repeated, asnd sighed. "I trust you've avoided those then. Honey, I love you, but I wonder if you'll learn how to navigate in dead air if you don't explore." He was, admittedly, a scientific sort, and shifted, tibghtening the telescope before turning to her. But you give me something to styart from. A water world with an atmosphere means it has Cerinkov Radiation, which means something we can use to identify it in the sky. Or, well, other wet senshi worlds."
"Limosa's an asteroid world dad." Cherish noted, then paused. "Although I admit one with some tricks to look small so who knows. Maybe it's secrtetly a dwarf planet."
"I presumed glamours might bew at play." Lawrtence responded, then paused.Magic was new to the man, who knew life by nuimbers, observation, and peer rteview, but he also saw magic and expoerienced it. Mathematically, asteroids couldn't host life. Admittedly, Satrurn also shouldn't have wonders or knights, but here he was, Page La Brea of Saturn, and his daughter's confidante. Powering was a stramge thoimg tp hom, but he wasn't a quitter. Lawrence Dunn studied and tasught physics, so Lawrence Dunn could learnm and one day mentor knighthood and, with his baby girl, senshi as well. Still, it gifted him an appetite to increase his astronomy, and Lawrtrence was always eager to expand his scientific wisdom. He pulled out his charts and graphs and showed them to his daughter.
"I believe tonight we can see Limodsa for some notes away from it." He said eagerly. Cherish paused, blnking, then lowering her soda.
"You are really into this." Came the response, and slowly she smiled.. "I could take you, one day."
Lawrence paused,. and looked to her in surprise, blinking in wonder at the offer. He knew his little girl wouldn't offer an emptry promise - she was his after all - but this was... Exciting. Terribly exciting.
"An upclose inspection sounds wonderful, my little flower, but nopt tonight. Tonight we look for it. Learn from our telescope. Look for clues. No world can survive if ar dpesn't move. It stifles the oxygen in the water, even... No animal can last longb."
"Huh." Cherish was surprised her father was interested, but Lawrence puttered about. motioning.
"Magic might allow us to breathe during visits but not overlong -- there might be tme limits, dsependaon how magic operates. Ah, to be able to study it properly. Mind perhaps we might see about a trip to Sarturn to learn with La Brea as a tesat location. That's assuming we can breathe there..." Lawrence paced excitedly, taking notes and writing things before he paused, looking to Cherish.. He felt a bit aWKWARD, REAlizing she might be bored of his prattling, but she instead watched and drank soda, blinking patiently as he went on and on and on. Finally, he stopped and looked awkward.
"I'm sorry, sweetheart. I'm not boring you am I?"
"No?" Cherish blinked. "I don't uinderstand half of your muttering but you seem happy so I'm good."
"Ah!" Lawrence sighed.// "No, no dearheart, I'm merely considering how we might test magic limits. I'm considerng using La Brea to test limits and--"
"Pretty sure it's unlimited. I went up for a couple hours bewfore." Cherish motioned, then hugged him. "Visit La Brea for you, Dad."
"I.. Well perhaps that's an idea." Lawrence admitted, thanking God there was noonme to hear them, and he smiled, pressing a kiss to his daughter's forehead. Fatherhood still felt surreal, and he wished Cherish was younger to share more special moments, bvut this was something for just them now. "Would you come wuith me?" He asked. Cherish smiled.
"We're a team now, right, dad? Of course I will." Cherish beamed, and hugged him tightly. Lawrence started, then beamed, slowly hugguiing his daughter back tightly. After all, he had two decades to make up for.
