Homeworld Visit: 5th July 2020 (Backdate)
Was this world serious?
His eyes trailed down the monolith towards the canopy below. He didn't appear to be on the same monolith as he'd climbed before, but it seemed that something or someone on this world had seen fit to deposit him on another on his return. He hadn't come prepared for this and it was with considerable resentment that he had begun his descent down the monolith towards the ground once more. If there was ever a better way to waste away the limited hours he had in the day to explore, this was probably one of the best ways to do so.
It would be several hours later until he finally met the base of the tower.
However, as his feet finally touched upon dusted soil once more, his eyes did catch sight of the large roots that seemed to have coiled around and even through the monolith. Those had not been there when he had discovered the first of them and as he took the time to assess them he couldn't help but notice that some of those extensive roots were significantly larger than him. Unsurprisingly an eyebrow rose at this realisation and for a brief moment he had to wonder if perhaps he had once heralded from a world of giants.
...Was this the norm?
His hand reached up to brush gently against one of the broad roots, one of the few things that seemed capable of taken contact. Though no life seemed to exist in these either they had come out from somewhere and with this in mind, it seemed logical that he should follow them. Mayhaps there was a monumental tree, one he hadn't seen from here, but somewhere on this planet that laid claim to these things? He'd find no answers remaining where he was and it was with this in mind that he gave the root one last thoughtful pat and then began to trace his way through the jungle after the spindling roots.
Now and then each would disappear deep into the ground, only to reappear soon after. At first he had been tricked in to thinking on several occasions that these were merely tree trunks, but eventually he became accustomed to the fact that in truth their peculiar structure and the manner in which they bent made it abundantly clear they were anything but.
Thoroughly distracted by his search, the senshi remained unaware of how much time had begun to pass as he wandered along the trail. Leaves crumbled upon contact, his shoulders unintentionally disturbing their final rest. With only the sound of his own footsteps for coming and the faintest whisper of a breeze that managed to slip through the gaps in the canopy, he was left very much to his own devices.
Did he expect to find anything significant? Not really. Each time he had come here he had been drip fed the smallest of views and even then they had been provided without context. Nevertheless there might come a time when lady luck did favour him and he would be shown more than just the scenic route. Pretty as it might have been, it didn't contain the answers to many of the challenges he faced at this stage in his career.
Ah, but patience was a virtue was it not?
He wasn't sure how many miles he had walked, but his dedication to following the trail of roots was soon rewarded. As they plunged into the depths of the unknown he came to the end of the path and almost walked off a cliff. He managed to catch himself of course, colourful language aside he remained intact.
Lips pursed, he glanced down at the sheer drop beneath him and then looked ahead. What greeted him was something entirely unexpected. He had stumbled upon a caldera and at the base lay one of the largest structures he had seen. With four monoliths rising from each corner, a pyramid lay in the centre. Toppled off to one side, there appeared to be another one too... Had that been above this one? It seemed to be the only possible place that it could have been placed.
Beyond these large structures he took note of the roots that seemed to coil around the monoliths in much the same way as those he had found on the other. Every now and then smaller roots would creep up onto the base on the pyramid and then seep into the walls. It was almost as if the roots saw everything that existed as a part of them, and more interestingly, their presence didn't seem to cause issues for structural integrity. However this place had once functioned it seemed apparent that whatever and whoever had lived here, had lived here in harmony with what lay around them.
The senshi couldn't help but shake his head at how utterly idealistic that sounded to him. In a world where war was constant and discord between humanity and nature was abundantly clear, a symbiotic relationship seemed entirely unrealistic. Yet here he stood in the presence of something that implied that it had been possible at some stage in the past.
A wry smile crept on to his lips and he gazed upwards.
The sun was descending?
How long had he been here...?
Another first for the senshi who had often left long before the cycles of this planet ended for the day. Yet now, it seemed apt that he remain. Taking a seat at the edge of the cliff the man simply rested his hands behind him against the soil and gazed upwards at the shifting cycles and the planets that existed before his very eyes. He'd never really taken the time to see what lay above him, the neighbours his world may have had, and yet there they were. It was quite a sight to behold and one that he would remain to admire until the show had come to a close. If this was how has nation had once lived then he could only assume it wasn't one of the most terrible of lives.
Alas, the opportunity to explore this new found monument would need to wait for another time. With night closing in here it was necessary to return 'home' to ensure that he was prepared for evening there. He would be back of course and when the time came to explore he could only hope that the planet saw fit to place him back in this spot again.
Something lay within those walls and one day, he was going to find out what that was.
