Towards the end of her rounds, she made her way towards two Pages. She’d found when doing her preparations that she didn’t know as much about the details of being a Knight, but she still walked towards them with her head held high.

“Sumner and Sawtooth?” she asked, glancing at her clipboard. “Hello. Welcome,” she said, then glanced at her clipboard.

“I paired you up so that you could meet a fellow Knight. You all are a bit outnumbered and I’m sorry about that, but if you need anything or have any questions about the war in general,” she glanced to Sawtooth at that, “I’ll be around.”

Sumner had come since he figured that any training would be a boost to his still-weak fighting skills. However he didn't really have any idea of what was going on. They were on a soccer field, there were, well, mostly other Senshi, and it seemed that he and the other Page, Sawtooth, were the only Knights around. It wasn't a bad thing, but it was a little disappointing that there weren't more. The both of them could always use more connections.

Sumner had never met another Knight with those colors before and he was interested. He turned to the other. "Sawtooth? Good to see another page here. I've been around for a bit, so if you have any questions about being a Page, I might be able to answer them." To the point at least, but he wasn't sure how much the other wanted to talk at this point.

There were more people here than Sawtooth would have thought possible. Everything had seemed so far-fetched and hard to believe when he'd awakened almost a month ago. He'd assumed for sure that there weren't more than a handful of people who knew about all this magical stuff, let alone participated in it. But here everyone was at this gathering, dressed in sparkling and flowing garments and radiating a power that felt otherworldly.

As his name was called and he was introduced to another page, Sawtooth gave a bright grin toward the other man. "Nice to meet ya. I haven't really had the chance to get to know anyone else before this," he admitted with a shrug. "So it's good to see so many out there." Even if the vast majority of them weren't knights, per say.

It was just nice to know that there were people- other real people!- that had gone through what he was grappling with now. The other man, despite being a page as Sawtooth was, seemed a bit more comfortable with all the surroundings. At the offer to answer any budding questions, Sawtooth shoved a hand in the pocket of his long duster and shifted his weight to one foot. "I only powered up once before this- bit warm to be in full gear, I feel," he said, gesturing to his garments. "And I guess besides that, I don't have a clear idea of what to do? There wasn't really an instruction manual."

"I got a little information from the spirit at my wonder, but not enough to justify throwing myself out there to fight chaos or whatever." He had a life and job and family. Most people here looked quite a bit younger than him, too young to have experienced those things in full.

He tilted his head in question, aqua curls spilling into his eyes at the motion as he regarded the red-haired page. "Do you go out very often? Looking for trouble?"

At least he seems friendly. Sumner thought finally smiling a bit. He couldn't help but let out a laugh at Sawtooth's mention of no instructions. "I believe I said the same thing when I started meeting others. It's... a challenge to say the least, and I wish we were more connected to be able to give out instructions to all of the newcomers."

Maybe he could make a group about it?

"I'm not sure if this is the best place to do it..." There seemed to be plans or training activities of sorts they were supposed to do and Sumner wasn't sure how much time they would have to talk before. "But I can try to give you as much information as I can if you have any specific questions." He didn't think that trying to tell the other page literally everything he knew was a good idea at this point.

He shrugged his shoulders at the other. "Probably not as much as they would like me to. I don't have much in the way of fighting skills, though I'm still learning." But the fact that he really only knew how to throw a punch correctly at this point was... painfully slow. "But I do keep my eye out for things that may be out of the ordinary."

Sawtooth's lips quirked up in amusement. Guess it wasn't rare to be confused and unsure during the early months of powering up, and without the ability to directly contact someone more experienced, that wasn't likely to change. He'd had no idea how to get in touch with someone that wasn't dead and no idea who he could even talk to, given that everyone's identities were supposed to be secret. He was lucky Cybele's message had been able to come through his ring...

He rubbed his thumb over the engraved metal and gave a roll of his shoulders. "Well, we're here now. Seems like that's a good place to start." He at least had some names now of people he could seek out if he needed help. Cybele, Nephthys, and now Sumner.

"I think it'll help to just be involved when I can, and since we're here for this training thing, might as well train." There would be time later to ask any budding questions. He at least had the gist of what was expected of him as a page. And long as he did as Sumner did and 'kept his eye out' for things, that was probably all someone of his skill level could afford to do. Sawtooth wasn't of the impression he should be out risking his life haphazardly!

He cleared his throat, and stepped to put some space between himself and the other page. "I don't have any formal training in any kind of fighting style." He was tall and built enough that it never seemed necessary.

There weren't that many people Elias had ever thought would come at him, just given his size.

"So if you have some tips or some moves you want to show off, I'm all ears? And eyes."

Sumner grimaced a little, and it showed. He wasn't exactly trying to hide it, but he wondered why they would be training together if both of them didn't know the first thing about fighting. Was it to just see what they could do? "I... only really know how to throw a punch at this point. And I'm still working on using it correctly in battle." He hadn't needed to at this time, but he knew he would eventually.

He just hoped that when he did, he was ready.

"Unfortunately, my background is saving people who are drowning and yelling at people not to run on the beach. So I could give you some tips on how to save someone who is drowning?" He gave the other a slight smile. "I... guess you don't have a fighting background either?"

Sawtooth rolled his shoulders, flexing his arms and fingers a little as he stretched. "I've got the gist of basic punch-throwing and kicking," he admitted. "If somebody's coming at me, I can get 'em to back off. ...Or I could if we were all just normal people, anyway." He'd never been in a situation where he wasn't big enough and physically capable of removing someone trying to pose an issue. "But I'm mostly concerned those Negaverse guys know how to really fight, not like some brawl outside a bar. I don't have that kind of training."

"At least, not to any extent I can remember." He'd had some luck learning a few things on his wonder the first time he'd gone there. They'd been more information-oriented over combat-oriented. But the apparition there seemed to know what it was talking about. That seemed like where most of his training would come from: from the past life of his wonder.

"My background is mostly in rocks. Design. Designing rocks. Well, not really. But sort of. I'm an architect." Not much use for fighting. He shrugged. "But that's okay, though. I'm not convinced this meeting was really for us," Sawtooth said, notching his head to indicate the pairs of mostly senshi around them.

He didn't know much about senshi, but since he was a knight of Saturn, a senshi planet, he kind of assumed that most of them were supposed to have knights protecting them, and maybe they didn't get much combat training themselves.

"Guess we get the benefit of learning from whatever memories our wonder has stored, so who knows? Maybe in a couple months I'll have a cool Saturn combat style to show you. And you could have a- Er. What are you, anyway? I've never been good with this astrological stuff. Don't know all the symbols, yet. Sorry." Oh, but he could probably guess. Blue garments in a combination of flowing and scale-like patterns. "Must be Neptune," Sawtooth said after a beat. "I think most everyone knows that one."

"I've got... punching down." Sumner said, feeling a bit embarrassed that he knew so little. "Been in a few fights though. From what I can tell, the Lieutenants are almost like us and don't really have useful weapons. It's everyone after that that are hard. They have actual weapons." Not that he'd gone up against too many, but he had to run sometimes when he knew he was outmatched.

"An architect of rocks?" Sumner wasn't really sure what an architect had to do with that, unless it was some sort of rock-layout design or something such as for paths or landscaping. "That sounds interesting. I'm a lifeguard. I mostly spend my time yelling at people." He said giving the other a grin. "Not too fun, but at least I get to spend more time around the water." He took a look around as Sawtooth made his head movement and silently agreed with the other. There weren't too many knights there, and they seemed to be the only Pages.

"Definitely. I've only been to my Wonder once, but I wasn't there for long. So there's a lot more to explore." He wanted to stay longer, but he hadn't been ready for the trip. "You're correct. Mine's pretty easy to guess isn't it? So it's all about water and music. Saturn though, what type of theme does that planet have?" He wasn't sure about what the other planets of the solar system had as "themes". He was sure that they did, only from his being filled with water and what appeared to be instruments and whatnot.

"You've been in a few fights?" Sawtooth prompted immediately, curious. Since he'd powered up only sparingly so far, Sawtooth hadn't had much opportunity to see anything in Destiny City. He was somewhat familiar with his wonder and the spirit there, but his experience with actual fights with Chaos was still limited to... Just the one he'd had when he awakened, when some random stranger happened to try and pull his starseed.

Obviously Sawtooth had survived that despite having no idea what was happening, so maybe he shouldn't be all that concerned. But that kid must have just been a lieutenant... Sawtooth didn't remember seeing him wield anything even remotely weapon-like.

And his wonder-spirit, Kaiah, didn't seem to be familiar with the brand of chaos going around now.

So there was a lot he didn't know, but Kaiah at least seemed able to teach him basic combat, even if she didn't know what exactly he was using it on.

"Huh." The sound was quiet as it slipped from his throat, but he shrugged and gave a little nod. "Yeah, sort of. I'm a landscape architect, so there's lots of opportunities to work with rocks. And I'm a bit of an armature geologist, but that's just a fun past time. And you're a lifeguard, huh? You must have pretty good cardio, at least."

"I can show you the first couple things my wonder spirit showed me?" He offered. "They're pretty basic grapple techniques, mostly so your opponent can't get the space to land many hits with much power behind them. I don't think she was used to fighting against someone who could reach into your chest, though. So you should probably take care getting in that close."

"She didn't really cover what the theme of our world was, but it was pretty dark, heavily forested, seemed like it didn't really want people there, but I guess it makes an exception for me."
PostPosted: Sun Apr 11, 2021 5:54 pm

"I have, doesn't mean I was any good at them." He said with a wry smile. If he had to be one hundred percent honest, then what he really would have said was that he sucked and really shouldn't have been in the fights in the first place.

"Landscape architect? Sounds interesting.Or at least it sounds like you get a bit of creative freedom." He couldn't say he got that at his job. Sitting in a chair all day looking around for drowning people and yelling at others not to run didn't exactly stimulate the creative part of the mind. He nodded in response to Sawtooth though. "Yeah, can't say I don't get exercise at least. Just wish we didn't have to sit in the chair so much." He always thought that walking around the area would be helpful as well.

"I'd appreciate it. Anything that helps me in a fight. Though I have heard the best thing to do is run away if possible." He said with a chuckle. He paid more attention to the Homeworld part. "Sounds interesting. I'd like to see it sometime, though I have yet to visit my own Wonder or Homeworld. Maybe I can hit you up for a look once I've gone and looked at mine? I understand if it's not allowed though. I think some Homeworlds may be more accepting than others."

'No good at them' was something Sawtooth could sympathize with. He rubbed a hand along the back of his neck, through the mess of aqua curls spilling beneath his hat. But it was important to learn, just for his own safety's sake. He wasn't going to power up and start hunting for trouble, but he believed in preparedness, and Destiny City had so much a civilian couldn't be prepared for that Sawtooth could be. No reason to squander an opportunity.

"No better reason to learn, then," he said with a shrug. "C'mon, you're about to get a little more exercise, then. We'll start with breathing to help us relax and get settled in the right mindset. Deep breath in for five counts-" He demonstrated, inhaling a slow breath for five silent seconds, "And then out for the same." And again. "Not that you'll really have time for that before any random fight you'll run into in the city, but it's still good practice for right before you power up. And even when you're fighting, it's important not to tense up and hold your breath. The goal is to be steady and clear-headed throughout. It's probably the same as when you're lifeguarding. You gotta be calm, even when someone's life is at stake, right?"

He took several more slow, deep breaths, listening as Sumner explained he'd probably rather run away, to which Sawtooth couldn't suppress a quiet scoff and a murmur of, "I ain't turning my back on someone trying to hurt me, even to run. I'm not starting anything, but if someone else does, I finish it." He didn't like to lose. And turning tail was hardly better that that.

He couldn't help but pause, though, at the mention that Sumner had never been to his homeworld. "You've never been? I went- uh- the first second I powered up, basically." Of course the danger and adrenaline had made him feel especially tense, and when a comforting whisper enticed him into saying his pledge, well, it had felt pretty hard to ignore at the time. "Uh, your ring?" Sawtooth asked, shifting to just show off the silver metal from beneath the ends of his fingerless gloves. "You didn't go get your ring, then?"

"I don't mind if you wanna come see mine. There's not really anyone there, besides Kaiah, to say if it's alright or not. And I don't think she's seen people for like- I don't know, a thousand years, or something? She probably wouldn't mind the company. But you should really go check out yours first chance you get. It feels... well, it's something you have to experience."

"Anyway, if you're relaxed and stretched, we should start getting into the actual techniques."
PostPosted: Fri Apr 16, 2021 8:34 pm

Sumner watched as the other demonstrated the exercise. It made sense. One didn't want to freeze up in a battle to the point where they lost their wind just because they couldn't remember to breathe correctly. He couldn't help but smile a little at the other's murmur, though he wasn't sure he heard all of it. "I don't want to run either, but I'm sure there will be times where we have no choice." He would have said if they wanted to live, but Sawtooth appeared to be the type of person okay with sacrificing themselves.

It could have been cowardly for Sumner, but he would like to stay alive, at least for a bit, even if he did risk losing his life as a lifeguard. But in terms of fighting, he didn't believe that throwing oneself out there just to be killed would do anyone any good. Better to be able to come back and be better prepared.

He practiced the breaths a few times and had to admit that it did make him feel better. "Yeah... I was awakened in the middle of the battle, so I didn't really have time to think about it. And then I've just been too busy since then to do so. But I'm not afraid to go, I want to see it." He truly did, but he also felt a lingering sense of sadness around it. He knew that there had been life, but now it would be so... different.

He smiled brightly at the suggestion though. "I'd love to go with you when you're ready to take people! And of course I'll see mine first. And uh no, haven't gotten the ring, though I'm sure I will when I get there. At least I know to look out for one now!" Though what it would look like he had no idea, but now he knew there was something in the Wonder waiting for him.

"Yep, sounds good to me." He said, taking a step back from the other, wondering what they were going to practice first.

Sawtooth, out!

They were both beginners, so Sawtooth figured it’d be alright to try and showcase anything his wonder spirit had already shown him. It was, admittedly, all basic stuff. As Sumner had said, it was probably better to run away from anyone who knew what they were doing. Kaiah had been disastrously offended that Sawtooth knew so little about combat and defending himself, and she was far from the most patient tutor… She really impressed the ‘hit and run’ tactic on him, “at least for now,” even if it wasn’t Sawtooth’s favorite strategy.

“Alright. We’re calm and ready. Let’s get into position- like this.” He stood with feet shoulder-length apart and staggered, knees bent, shoulders dipped, arms up. “Literally all we’re doing is trying to dissuade someone from coming after us. So just look prepared. We’re not cool enough to pull off the relaxed and nonchalant vibe. Yet.”

“We’re also not doing anything complicated- potshots,” Sawtooth slammed an open palm none-to-gently, though far from full strength into Sumner’s shoulder. “Like so, angled up at the nose or throat. Fingers in the eyes, knee to the crotch. Hit the spots that’ll hurt, and then get out of there. You’re gonna wanna do just about everything in your power to stay on your feet. Do not get caught on the ground. If you can get any kind of leverage, use it. Don’t do any slappy-flappy movements. Use concise, direct, forceful hits.”

He brought a fist up, elbow angled over his shoulder and pounded down repeatedly into his own hand.

“Oh, if they get you by surprise,” Which didn’t seem impossible, considering they could teleport, and not all of them broadcasted their aura before striking. Sawtooth turned so his back was to Sumner. Reaching back, he took the other man’s hands, and tugged them so that they were resting on Sawtooth’s arms, just below his shoulders, in some semblance that he’d been grabbed. “Try to stay lax, and then bash them as soon as they seem comfortable and confident that they’ve got you. Use your elbows to make room.” He nudged an elbow into Sumner’s ribs, and then flipped around sharply to face him.. “And get to facing them as soon as you can to start punching and kicking.”

And while he wished he had some more masculine methods of self-defense, when the enemy could just reach into their chest and pull out their soul without expending much effort, what choice did they have but to run?

“I dunno if I have much else to show you. My spirit lady is trying her best to teach me, but, uh…” Sawtooth was not a fantastic student, and he personally struggled with people sounding like they knew so much more than he did… It was easy for both him and Kaiah to get frustrated during their practice sessions. “That’s probably the best I’ve got for now, but we should keep at it? Oh, and I’ll take you to meet Kaia next time. She’s better at all this than me.”
