The notice board for the Negaverse was a mess of serious needs and random hodge-podgery ranging from mission assistance request and specific Intel to just asking if someone had a toaster they could spare. With moving in the Negaverse, he checked the board for work and various off jobs for money. Other times it was to rip off some of the very dates papers - 2019 Christmas? Yeah that needed to go in the bin.

As he looked, he spitted a simple request for a guide into the rift pinned stop others - meaning it was recent. It had the contact tag for their tablets and, more or less the best thing for a Rift guide, he tore it off the wall and headed home.

Flipping on the couch, he sent a message and then went about his day. Later he got a response and a time was set. Later that day, after dinner and a nap, Wolframite walked his way down to the castle where he waited for the man in question.

All he had to go by was his name which - he really wondered about. He already knew Wolfeite. He really didn't wanna know there was more.

They told him he couldn't go. The Rift was too dangerous; the creatures inside too monstrous. And there was nothing for a senshi to gain by stepping there. By virtue of what he was, everything would want to attack him. There was no reason for Calaverite to go to the Rift. The generals who usually brought him to and from Negaspace all refused to waste their time escorting him on a pointless venture for his enjoyment.

The way they said it, 'a senshi has no business there...' made Cala's petulance flare. He wanted to go, and that was business enough! And why were some of the older agents so mad about him being a senshi? It wasn't like he'd ever done anything to them.

Cala wasn't going to let them just say no and that be the end of it. He was going!

Someone else could take him...

So he had posted a notice asking for a guide and received an offer in a matter of days. All those generals could suck it as far as Calaverite was concerned. He didn't need them. He could do what he wanted. And it was something of a personal pleasure to see that the agent who had volunteered went by 'Wolframite.' Another Wolf for Cala to play with. Two doggies going exploring together...

He practically bounced as he left his room in the barracks and headed for the castle. There were a few passerby tending to their chores, but Calaverite expected it was obvious who he was looking for. A boy with large purple ears, a fluffy tail, and heavy claws seemed to fit the bill.

"Woof woof!" He called as he announced himself. Calaverite was undaunted as he approached, reaching with immediate fearless abandon to the boy's ears as he crooned in delight, "A real doggy!" The mood was short-lived, and he pouted as he made to tug on one of the ears. "Oh, that's not fair, I want to have cute ears too. Why didn't I get any? My kitty named me 'Wolf' and didn't give me any furry ears..."

Wolframite was trying to learn to be a more caring, tolerant officer, but sometimes the world tested him. The senshi who gave himself a message back had waved to show who he was, but the greeting had Wolframite's expression going sour in milliseconds. Woof Woof was not a greeting for officers and he wasn't a full youma to be owned by anyone. A few officers moving about had glanced, making him even more award of the careless disrespect.

And then, in moments, the man came over, did not stop at the polite distance, and plopped his hand right into his hair and started to fondle his ears. Given their sensitivity and the general nature of liking those close to him touching them, this was a large violation. It spoke volumes that he did not see him as worth the usual decorem that superior officers should be granted, let along common decency.

And those needed reminders

A large paw came up, grabbed the hand tugging his ears and turned in a swift motion to twist the arm around painfully.

"Let me be clear. I am NOT a dog. I am first and foremost, your superior officer. Welcome me at most as 'Sir' and at least with a salute or a hello. You say 'woof woof' to me again and I'll rip that tongue out so fast that you'll dream about being able to say vowels again for the rest of your life. Secondly, I'm a half-youma so don't ******** with me or I'll eat your starseed and report to your superior of your justified end and offer them a replacement with more common sense."

He released his arm.

"Touch me again and I'll touch you, and I will be far rougher than a pet." He said, flexing the long-clawed fingers on his hands..

He adjusted the hem of his uniform cost and sleeves with a few quick tugs.

"Now then. Let's give you the benefit of a do-over. Hello Officer Calaverite. My name is Captain Wolframite. You seem to have a interest in The Rift?"

Calaverite yipped in shock, his free arm swiping out to scrabble long, unmanicured nails into the fur of the agent's arm in an attempt to dislodge him as his own bony arm was twisted. He hadn't even done anything, and 'superior officer Half Youma' was mad at him. They were always mad at him. Cala was starting to not super enjoy spending time with agents, which was a real bummer since they were kind of everywhere. But it was also a huge bummer that they were offended by everything and seemed to not like him in particular. That wasn't his fault.

A stuttered sound that may have been a choked sort of laugh bubbled out of his throat. Cala pulled at the fur on the arm holding his as he leaned nearer to alleviate some of the tension in his own captured limb. He regarded Wolframite with a face that was mostly wide, dilated eyes and a taut, toothy smile. "That's how doggies talk to each other," he explained. And then, in a chiming, lilting tone, he added, "Woof woof," tipping his head one way and then the other with the words.

He was not going to salute anybody. That was dumb.

Cala staggered a step back as he was released, curling his fingers and running skittery palms up to his shoulder. He pouted. The agents all thought they were better than him or that they were scarier than anything else. At the offer of a 'do-over' Cala glowered at Wolframite through messy tendrils of bangs that had fallen into his face. "I'm not 'Officer Calaverite,' and you can't just erase things you don't like," he retorted, and then set off down the hallway.

He was already going. Whatever happened would happen, and Wolframite could follow or not, if he wanted. He could make other doggies that would go with him. He didn't need another grouchy agent.

He watched him a moment, debating on just letting him go. Did he even know where to go? Then again, if he did find it, he'd die in the hallway. The shadows would make sure of that. That first security measure was the main reason senshi couldn't even cross the threshold of the Rift.

If he wanted to be a better officer, he couldn't just abandon those who asked for his help. He had to find a medium between helping and still being respected.

He took a breath, fixed his hair with a taking of one hand, and then followed till he closed the gap between them, matching his stride. "You know it's insulting for you to regard me as a animal. Half-youma are still people. You are about to go into The Rift. The home of youma. If you can't show them respect, then I can't protect you. My being there won't keep them from killing you even with my own alignment to them."

He watched him. "Do you even know where the entrance is?"

Calaverite had never been blessed with height. Even when taking properly full, quick steps in his agitation, his strides were still short. Wolframite was by his side before he'd gotten very far, and Cala's expression pinched into an angry pout at the proximity.

'Insulting!' He was aghast at the accusation! How could Wolframite not see that these were his most friendly behaviors? Cala was always trying to be friendly, and everyone else just wanted to be mean and bossy and 'put him in his place,' and then have the audacity to get offended at him as if he'd been in the wrong. They were in the wrong! 'Ivory' had to put up with it because he was skinny and weak, and most people were capable of flinging him around without batting an eye.

Calaverite was not so weak, and he didn't have to put up with peoples' bad attitudes if he didn't want to.

"Why?" He spat back at Wolframite's accusation. Before the agent had a chance to even offer an answer, Cala persisted instead. "No, it's not! I like doggies! I even said I liked your ears. I only get to be a doggy in name, and that's like, not even any of the fun part! And you're going to be grumpy about it. That's stupid. So shut up and go away." Youma wouldn't be unreasonable like agents. Cala was sure.

"I've passed it before," he announced in a huff. "I've been exploring loads of times. I know where everything is now."

This guy had no idea why anyone would be upset about being referred to as a dog and then being mishandled by a complete stranger. Either he just was oblivious to everything or he was self-centered and didn't care to even give it a thought. Right now, he wasn't sure if it was a cocktail of both.

"Because people call other people dogs as if they are beneath them as a insult. Or they call them dogs to say they are wild animals without self control. As if they aren't human. As if they are devoid of complex thoughts and emotions and are therefor something to be used. You didn't greet me as someone else. You greeted me that way. And then you touched me without asking. I don't let just anyone touch me." He clarified, siding with being very obvious with his explanation in case the other just never considered it before. I don't let anyone just touch me anymore. He thought.

"I like space." He added. "Most people don't like their space entered, especially by people they only just met. You need to ask and build that level of trust." He guessed it could of been worse than a pet if he really thought this way.

"Also, being a half-youma is not a thing to be taken lightly. Most don't choose to be half-youmas and it's a sore spot for some people. Because they can't go back being human with their friends and family. You have to be careful." Because he thought of those like Laven who might feel terribly sad and refuse to work with someone who treated her poorly due to their ignorance.

"And me being upset isn't stupid. Just as you being upset isn't stupid. I'm trying to talk to you." He pointed out.

He went quiet, allowing the other to fume a bit and maybe boil down.

"Oh so you know about the Corridor of Shadows that pulls in anyone that the youma do not approve of which specifically targets senshi of any kind. Right? Cause a senshi on their own wouldn't have been able to pass the only entrance and exit to the Rift alone. And from your message, you made it sound like you never had been there. So you lied to me." He said, watching him.

"Because I'd hate for someone to get killed for no reason just because they weren't with me to take them safely there like I had offered to do. That would just be a shame. Real shame." He walked with him, watching him.

"I guess if you know everything I should just leave then like you want. Since I'm with a Rift expert."

"You admit it. You just admitted it!" Calaverite snapped, hurrying forward with his arms folded and red gaze alight with frustration as he focused on the hall ahead. "'Other people' do things that way. That's what you said. But you didn't pay any attention to how I did it because you were too busy worrying about those 'other people!' I said I liked you. And I wished my kitty gave me ears too, instead of just a stupid name. I did like you." And then, in a quieter grumble. "I don't really like you, anymore. All of you are the same."

All the agents were all the same. And they weren't very unlike most others Ivory had ever dealt with, either. Nobody cared what Calaverite liked and wanted, so it didn't seem fair that he should have to care about anybody else's needs.

So he said so. "I don't care what you like," Cala seethed. "And I'm not going to ask for something just to be told no. I'll touch you or whoever else if I want to, and you can get over it. I didn't even hurt you." He hadn't even hurt him!

Another look, sharp and aggressive, was sent Wolframite's way as Calaverite jerked to a halt. He was quiet for a moment, narrowed red eyes fixed raptly to the agent's face before, "No," he spat. "I'm not going to be careful just cause somebody else will get all mad or sad over being a half-youma. It's not like I did it to them, or you- or whoever. Boo hoo," he said in a dramatically high voice. "'I don't have any friends or family anymore-' So what? Nobody needs those things. It's not my fault everyone is sad over everything, and I'm not gonna go around creeping carefully around everyone's feelings. Not theirs. Not yours," He gave Wolframite's shoulder a petulant shove. "So get over it."

He huffed, tucked his head, refolded his arms, and moved stiffly away.

He had passed by the hall that led to the Corridor of Shadows, and he had been told he couldn't go in there. That was why he'd asked for help: because he couldn't get into the Rift without someone else. He didn't think it was supposed to be a secret that no one talked about. It felt very obvious that everyone thought it was a danger to him, but no one wanted to help him- And he didn't care. He didn't want their stupid help.

But now Wolframite, in addition to accusing Cala of insulting him, also decided that Cala had lied to him-

He didn't lie.

He didn't lie.

Calaverite whipped around, a high-pitched screech tearing out of his throat as he threw himself at Wolframite, swiping with his nails very deliberately for the agent's face.

"How am I supposed to know you like me? You only just met you. I have nothing to reference back to. How am I supposed to know you didn't mean things like other people?" He pointed back, but found out they were running in circles.

"It's fine if you don't like me. I'm not here to be liked. I'm here to take you to the Rift." He said, not caring if the man beside him cared little for him. "If you don't want me to do that, then I'll leave you and go on my own."

The viewpoint of Calaverite was a problamatic one. "You have to give in order for anyone to give back. If you don't care about other people and how they feel, no one is ever going to care you and how you feel. That's part of being in this world. If no one cared about others and how they feel, no one would have ever answered your request. No one would help. They would only care about themselves and what they could get to make them happier." He didn't staggered to the nudge to his person.

The attack however made him smile and brighten, finding it all VERY funny. He took the other as he shielded his eyes.

"Nails? With ME?!" He had far longer nails. "You aren't even punching?!" He cackled, and then swung his entire body out, gained momentum in the turn, and went for a hard side kick. What was some new senshi going to do with someone who was probably his senior 10 times over in fighting.

Calaverite was used to people taking poorly to him. He was used to not being the only one agitated upon a first meeting. Sometimes things happened abruptly, when his mood whispered for him to take action, as it did in its tantalizingly gentle tone. He felt safe. There were no consequences he couldn't contend with. Action solved all his problems.

He wanted to. He liked to do something when upset! And it had never gotten him into any immeasurably detrimental situations. As far as he could remember.

What was he supposed to do with his unhealthily thin, fragile, bony body? If he tried to punch, he only ever succeeded in breaking himself and doing very little to what he was attacking, besides giving a good startle. Scratching yielded practically the same result, sans the self harm. Frightening his foe and drawing first blood was usually enough to get the point across with someone who didn't know him and didn't expect how he'd respond.

Usually.

Wolframite looked more amused than frightened, and he seemed mostly unfazed by Cala's clawing hands. Calaverite didn't have a method of attack beyond that. He only knew how to scratch and bite and flail until he forced a retreat, someone came in and pulled him away, or he was put down. Not all options were equally pleasurable. But they were all acceptable.

He wasn't pleased, and everyone should know that he wasn't. As long as he achieved that, the final result didn't matter too much. Wolframite's foot collided hard into Cala's hip, sending a reverberating pain that he felt deep in his bones as he was flung to the side, landing on the ground in a heap of scrawny limbs and tangled hair.

Calaverite inhaled a stuttered breath that then left him in a raspy, mangled chortle. His wide eyes darted around frantically to land on the agent again, and he lurched back to his feet, flinging himself at Wolframite again.

He was tenacious, there was that. Anger and frustration was fueling him like coals but there was no finesse and experience on how to make his desires a reality. Just arms out to tear and render but none of the weaponry like the half-youma possessed to make it a threat.

So he took the scratches to curl his large paw into a fist and deck him into the gut. A low blow, but bellies were soft and his wasn't being guarded.

"Pick your battles. I've been fighting for over 10 years." He said, hoping the logic of coming up against him would sink in.

"Or at least use your magic." He said, watching him in order to react. If he came again, he was going to just going to have to wrestle him into strong grip to let him wait it out.

"And they say I'm easily triggered. What is your deal?"

The eyes were the best thing to go for, Cala knew. People were always especially frightened when they couldn't see, and eyes were basically just little, squishy pockets of jelly: a weak point. They were good targets, particularly when clawing instead of punching. Cala always went for the eyes.

But Wolframite's massive furred paws were good at fending off his attacks, leaving little room for Calaverite to reach almost anything and certainly not with the viciousness he intended. When one of those paws slammed into his stomach, a garbled gasp flew from his lips, and he crumpled to the ground, nails dragging at the agent's coat as he sank. The blow wracked his scrawny body, making him feel particularly ill and light-headed.

It did put a little of a dampener on the mad he currently wrestled with.

Though not on his petulance. He angled dark eyes up to Wolframite. "I have always been fighting," Calaverite hissed in retort, the words staggered between short breaths. Maybe not with the flair and technique of someone who had been with the Negaverse longer than him, but it didn't change the assertion that every road he had ever taken had been fraught with the need to fight.

He coiled an arm around himself, the other still clutching the end of Wolframite's coat and gave a soft huff.

He smiled down at him. "I like that. Just need some better direction to really do some damage. I'd like to see you really make me hurt someday." He said with hopeful glee.

Prying the man's hand off his coat, he stepped over him and slowly down down on his lap, turning the man to face him as he recovered from the punch. He was careful to rest lightly on his pelvis rather than his stomach.

"So - why are you pissed at me now?" He asked.

"That's a lot of anger in a very short time. Should we just stay here a bit while you breath a little. Either we don't talk about it or some talk, up to you. Either way I won't be moving until you stop trying to claw at me."

It wasn't the response Calaverite had been expecting, and there was some flutter of something that felt like uncertainty or maybe curiosity that accompanied Wolframite's words, but that didn't make the comment any less agreeable. "I want to make you hurt," he grumbled, tone filled with ire at the missed opportunity. That was what he'd been trying to do. Hurt, hurt, hurt. Or at least make the agent have the decency to be frightened or- Or wary. He could have been happy to accept shocked, even...

He made a high-pitched vibrating sound in his throat and fumbled to swipe at the pads on the paws that tried to dislodge him, fingers scrabbling to find purchase to push or pull or anything on Wolframite's person as the agent sank down to sit on him.

The indignant sound never quite abated as he fumbled messily to scratch at the other man's chest and shoulders. Most of the true fight had left him, but compliance was still leagues from being on the table. Calaverite only had one good tantrum in him before he was tuckered out. He just didn't have the reserves of energy to sustain such a high level of offense. But he wasn't pleased about this.

Why wasn't he?

Why had he been mad?

The reason, what had been the reason? It seemed like it happened a lot less recently than it had, with the answer shrouded by a haze of emotion that had stopped caring about the 'why' and only wanted the result of hurt and scared. Cala stilled at the question, and remained quiet and unmoving for several long minutes. What was the answer?

Then, abruptly, "You called me a liar," he spat, venomous, with some of the fire reigniting after remembering why he'd been so upset in the first place. "I didn't lie to you."

His uniform was layered. Shirt, coat, buttons lining the front. A collar for the neck. Fir on his large arms. Boots and a tail. There was little skin actually available aside from his face, which he always protected fur to his previous loss of sight.

The attempts to hurt him only tore his clothes, popped buttons, but nothing else.

"Okay. You didn't lie then. You could have just said that." He reached forward and slipped his claws at his coat, popping off the remaining buttons free to open it. He tossed the cost aside to the floor.

"I'm awful with buttons with these claws. If you still want to hurt me, you can unbutton my shirt and claw at me there. I don't have fur there so the is skin."

And he waited.
