For the last while, Pendour had been using the thought of her wonder the way that people in old cartoons used carrots on a string to motivate their horses. In the same way that the carrot was always in view but ever slightly out of reach, she would step out of her door dreaming of her cove and the garden projects she'd started up there, but often she didn't end up seeing it. A few steps down the sidewalk, and she'd find some aura to follow, and as one thing led to another she'd find herself nose to nose with a Negaverse agent, or maybe just maybe someone else on the side of Order. It had been too many Negaverse agents, lately. That was okay. She'd been close as close to breaking through to a few of them, but it was a difficult thing, especially when they lashed out. She'd made it up to space in the end, which had been lovely, but she wouldn't be able to go back for a few weeks. It couldn't be her excuse for making it out the front door. Instead, she tried to picture a friendly face. Maybe if the night turned out quiet, she could call a friend. Well, that wasn't what happened. She felt the aura as if it had been scheduled. It was a senshi's aura, warm and soft. Her heels clicked against the pavement as she made her way in that direction, perhaps a little faster than she would have gone if the aura had been darker.

Monoceros stood in the park, practicing aiming his quills at trees with target papers stuck to them. "Video games really did not prepare me for this," he muttered, wincing as he missed and hit a completely different tree. He always thought he had good hand-eye coordination, but, uh, this was a wakeup call to the opposite. Apparently his skills were only good for games rather than real life.

It didn't take her so long to find the senshi. Yes, the senshi. If the lack of planet symbols on his outfit hadn't given away the fact that he wasn't a knight, the fact that he seemed to be throwing some kind of magic at the trees would have. "There you are," she said softly, taking care to come up from his side and not from the back as to not startle him. "Um, hi." She triedto take as good a look at his setups with the paper and the pointy things as she could while keeping her bad side turned away, and she tilted her head, her lips pressing just a little thinner. "There might be an easier way to put the papers on the trees," she said.

Monoceros startled anyway, jumping away from the source of the sound and loosing another set of quills on accident to the tree he'd been aiming at. "Ah, of course I'd hit a bullseye when I'm not even looking," he joked, looking towards Pendour. "Uh? I mean, they're already stuck there, it's just target practice. Unless that was a joke and now I sound like an a**, uh. Sorry?" stari_maga (ahh it didn't tell me you'd quoted me QAQ)

Pendour turned towards him all the way to get a better look, even though it meant her scars would show. As she squinted at the quills, now, she could tell that they had a bit of an ethereal sheen to them. "Oh. It's your magic," she said even softer, and half to herself. "That makes more sense." Her tone was neutral. She wasn't the type to encourage fighting practice, but she wouldn't stop it, either. "Anyway, um, hi. Should we start there?" Her brow was still partly knit as she stepped forwards, but she gave a small wave. "I'm Pendour."

Monoceros didn't react outwardly to her scars beyond a small widening of his eyes. Yikes. He figured she'd probably had enough attention on them, though, and it was insurmountably rude to bring it up, for sure. "Heh, hi," he chuckled, smiling, "I'm Ry—er, that is, Monoceros. Nice to meet you, Pendour!"

Pendour was used to her appearance surprising people, and although she still didn't like it, she didn't flinch or turn away anymore. "Monoceros. Yes, it's probably best to go with that," she said with a small smile and just a hint of a head tilt. "But, Ry, you can call me Sadie if it's easier, and if you're sure nobody else is around." Not that Pendour was hard to say, but it was more title than name. "Are you new at this?" He likely was, if he was still stumbling over such names and titles.

"Yeah," he said with another awkward laugh, "It's been, like... a week? I haven't met many of... us, I guess. Uh... my full name is Ryan, not just Ry. That's, uh. Y'know, only half of it." He scratched his nose. "What kind of magic do you do?"

"Okay," said Pendour with a small nod. "Ryan." That was a nice name, but she liked Monoceros, too. It was the unicorn constellation. She remembered that much. "Well, my full name is Sarandon, but I like Sadie more." Although they weren't out here to talk about names, not really. "A week? Do you know about knights, yet? Our magic works a little differently." She summoned her ocarina to her hand to demonstrate. "Mine has a calming effect, though."

"Whoa," he exclaimed softly as her ocarina appeared out of thin air. Even with his own magic making porcupine quills appear out of thin air, the simple acts still managed to amaze him. "I've, uh, tried to read up on it?" he said with a sheepish laugh, "But, uh, I'm not good at. Research. Learning on the fly works better for me, y'know?"

"Well, I'm a knight, and I'm not in a book, even," said Pendour, spreading her arms as a frame to show that, yes, she was here. "Let's see," she said, stepping a little closer. "The most obvious thing is probably that we have these objects that we channel our magic through." She tapped the ocarina. She'd heard the word weapons thrown around once or twice, which seemed like a stretch for the instrument she was holding, even if she had had any intention of using it like that. "If you're interested in the more, um, metaphysical aspects? Our power doesn't come directly from our worlds, the way senshi's do. It's from something called The Code." It was more of an entity, from what she could tell, but even she wasn't sure.

Monoceros couldn't help a small laugh. "Oh yeah? Like the Force or something? Sorry, it's just. Kind of funny, how people's imaginations can get close to the real thing, apparently, y'know?"

"Like the force." Pendour's smile brightened, and her voice came out just a little louder. "That- That's the metaphor I tend to use, actually. The small details don't all match up. The Negaverse isn't quite the Dark Side, but it's enough to give an idea." It was nice, knowing that she wasn't the only one who saw the connection. "A lot of things that are imaginings, or legends, on Earth are connected to other worlds. Our worlds." She paused, twirling at her hair for a moment. "There's a cove in England called Pendour where they say mermaids live, and, um," she turned to the side so that the mermaid tail train of her gown was more visible, and she glanced over to him expectantly. "Have you looked up Monoceros yet? Google won't have all the answers, but you might find your own legend to look out for." She was interested in whatever that story ended up being.

Monoceros's eyes widened as he looked at her gown, nearly taking a step back in surprise. "We're based on real things? I mean, I knew I had.... porcupine powers, I guess, but my name... means something? Is somewhere? That's... that's fascinating. I'll have to look it up. I wonder..."

Pendour nodded, her gentle smile growing. "We are. Knights are named for wonders, which are usually places with legends attached to them, like Camelot." They weren't all quite as well known as that, but they were all wonders in their own way. "Senshi have objects from space. Asteroids. Um, stars." She glanced upwards. "Although the only Monoceros I know about is a constellation." She tried to keep up with NASA's website, with how connected to space she was, and she knew she'd heard his name before. "I don't know the myth that goes with that one though, not off the top of my head. If the internet doesn't have the answers you're looking for, though," she looked back over to him, "You can always go there."
