He had just returned to Matori from Zena and he had to admit that he had missed it here. The palm trees, the scent of the sea breeze, well, Zena had good food, but it was certainly chilly there. It wasn't even that cold when he was there but he was used to Oban heat, even Matori just felt pleasantly warm. His adventures had forever changed him and he could not say that he regreted it either. It had been nice to be home but so many of his old aquaintances had not changed at all over time. Nothing comparable to the growth he had felt over the years. Hardship built character and travel built up the soul.

Likewise, V'demhe was back home in Matori as well. She took a moment to pause and inhale deeply. The fresh ocean air filled her nose and lungs and made her realize how much she missed being there. It was also filled with memories of her missing mate and young daughter. Dem looked toward the sea, one hand resting on the hilt of the sword at her waist. It had been years since she'd been back in Matori. After a small shake of her head she moved on, her eyes looking in front of her as she made her way toward the old family home she paid to have maintained. She never knew when her family might come home and she wanted something for them to come home to.

Kiyelt spied an Alk that looked familiar from one battle or another, it was so long ago he was not sure. "Dem? Your back around these parts? It's so good to see you again. How are the girls doing?" It was so refreshing to reaquaint one's self with old friends. "You look good girl!" He smiled, flashing bright white teeth. He had always thought that Dem was gorgeous, pity it was not meant to be, a part of him had always wanted an alkidike daughter or son. Water under the bridge, though he had been right she had had beautiful daughters.

She was busy walking along and looking down, mostly lost in thought, so when someone said her name she stopped suddenly and looked around. Once she spied Kiyelt she smiled at him and offered a wave of her hand. "Hey there."
She chuckled at first but it eventually made it into a full blown laugh. Dem had to reach up and wipe a tear from the corner of her eye as she shook her head at him. "You mean I look good for my age. Or just old." She didnt think she looked as good as she used to anymore. Travel had worn her down some and keeping track of all the kids even more so. "Masika is fine. She's around here somewhere too. Valharii lives in Matori so we're making a trip to see her." She assumed he spoke of those two. Masika was hers by birth but Valharii had been adopted years ago. Since she still hadnt found Virain or Galene she couldnt say much about her other daughter.

At least he had made her laugh, "On the contrary my dear I think you look ravishing. Would that you would have been mind back in the day but alas here we are." He waggled his eyebrows at her in play. "There is a rather fetching water apprentice I have but I don't know if she will ever return the favor and as I am training her she has to make the first move. So many loves had but lost, I'm getting tired but also I still want a family. If it goes on too much longer I will go home and adopt someone. Give them a better life."

"Ha! If I had been yours you'd have run for the hills a long time ago." Dem grinned at him then. Not many could deal with her. She wasn't all that convinced Virain could deal with her. In recent years she had even taken to thinking he'd left because of her. Why he had taken one of their daughters she didnt know.
Hearing that the man now had an apprentice made her smirk at him as she moved close to pat him on the shoulder. "Adopting isnt a bad thing you know. Valharii was adopted. And so was Draven. Even got an Oban son running about somewhere." V'demhe had loved being a mom so much that she just took in whoever needed it. It also helped keep her heart from breaking.
"I am sorry you lost so many loves. I only lost the one. No one else has ever tried to be that close to me so I can relate." That had been another thing that had made her think it was her. No one else even attempted to suggest that type of relationship.

"I wouldn't have tamed you Dem, some things need to be wild and free." His eyes sparkled. "You have only grown more gorgeous over time." He pursed his lips, "I am so very tired of being lonely you know? I should have had two batches of kids by now at least. Adoption is looking very attractive." He just wanted to be a Dad so bad and to have a woman he could spoil and ride with. Ahh all the adventures! "Some people get better with age and experience, like fine wine." He was sad that she still hadn't found her mate, the same had happened to him more often than not. Tendaji was a dangerous world.

"Well dont you know just what to say to get to an old woman's heart." Dem would be lieing if she said his nice words didnt move her a little. It was nice to hear such words after so long. Years of being lonely did get to her.
"I can understand that Kiyelt. I've been lonely for years" She did have the advantage of having kids though. He didnt have that luxury. It made her feel a bit guilty. "If I could have children the way you earthlings do then I would gladly give you some, old boy. As it stands I don't think Aisha will let me give her blooms out to whoever." A chuckle followed her words. No one knew it but Dem herself had gone to plead for more kids and had been ignored. It made her wary to try for more.

He grinned at her. She was a sweetie with fire, just his type. "I'm sure it will all work out in the end huh. Fascinating though, had I been born an alk I could have prayed for children. Funny how fate is sometimes." He enjoyed this woman's company so much. "At least I still have you as a friend dear Dem and I am all the more grateful for it." "You warm my old heart so," He was going to have kids if he had to walk into a tavern and sow some wild oats. Darn it, he needed to have a legacy!

"Aye, you could pray for children then but you would only get them if Aisha found you worthy." She didnt mention her own pleas being ignored. She figured no one else need know of her failures. It was bad enough she knew of them.
"Careful what you wish for, Ki." Again the tall amazon laughed. "Being friends with an Alk is still odd in some parts." For the most part the world had gotten used to them if not accepting. Dem was seen all over and most tolerated her presence better than others. Then again they knew she had hybrid children and that she adopted earthling children and so she had no prejudice against anyone.
"Have to admit its been a while since I went up north so I'm not sure how the Ice tribe feels about us in recent years." Last she recalled the Iclings were still very proud and frowned upon hybrids.

"Icelings have not changed, their hearts are still frozen solid." That was what happened when you only went two feet away from your village your whole life. He was so glad his parents were not like that and made him go see the world so he could come back with some character. Mission accomplished. "There are good and bad in each society," Their races had a lot in common. "It would do the lot of them good to go on a seven year adventure, travel is the best medicine for ignorance."

"On that we can agree. But getting people to actually go out and explore is the hard part." She had wandered off into the world when she was little and had never really gone back. Dem loved meeting new people and seeing new things. She also loved having a home to go to.
Pausing for a second she eyed Kiyelt a bit closely, one brow rising with a bit of suspicion. "And what brings you to Matori? I know I'm here to visit kids and actually be home for once. What is your excuse?" She had to admit she was curious what brought her friend to her neck of the woods.

He put on a wide sage face, "It is hard to find a wife while one is baking alone in the middle of the desert surrounded by semi wild janarim. I got bored...and couldn't take it anymore, so I decided to move and Matori is better than Zena on so many levels." Palm trees, sea breezes, gorgeous beach bodies, what was not to love? "Im just at that age where I'm done with being alone, let the last wife hunt commence!"

She ended up laughing at him then. One hand on his shoulder the other on her stomach as she leaned forward and giggled. ""You make it sound like you're on your way to the market, Ki." Still it was amusing to hear. After shaking her head at him she looped her arm around his shoulders and pulled him close so she could half lean on him. Since she was so tall she didnt put her full weight on him. "Want to come sit with an old woman and have a few drinks? I was planning on having a nice fire smoked salmon and some wine later."
If she couldn't find her lost mate and daughter then she could at least sit and enjoy time with friends. It wasnt like she had anything else to do for the rest of the day. And she eas doing good on travel time so Valharii didnt expect her til late the next day.

Kiyelt laughed with her and said, "I would love to have dinner with you Dem, more than anything." He was grateful for her easy friendship, he hadn't laughed like that in forever and he liked making people laugh too. "Mmmmm salmon, I love salmon!" "Did you catch it yourself?" He asked curiously, he had missed fishing in the desert. "Been quite a spell since I went fishing myself, Oba being less condussive to nautical passtimes." He wasn't complaining about the lushious body pressed up against him but she was a taken friend and off the market.
