It was almost a pity she had made it so far - she certainly had no intention of sticking around and joining the pack. The glory of victory would be her's alone, she had no peers to share it with.
Once again, Nameless did not bother greeting her opponent with words. Vanishing Lichen received more than most, however, as the she-wolf dipped her head in slight acknowledgment of him. He had made it to the finals, and she hoped that he was worth her time. The dark wolf struck first, aiming a blow for his head. It had not slipped her awareness that she almost always went for the legs in a fight, and she did not want to give him the advantage of reading her patterns.

Vanish was, well, surprised would be an understatement. Winning his first round was surprising. As the tournament went on surprise became utter bewilderment. He'd never have figured these old legs of his would carry him all this way; perhaps he could give credit to muscle memory, he had been a successful spirit hunter in his prime. Not one of any particular fame, simply qualified enough to hold rank and do his job.
Fact was he had made it this far. He had earned this. He looked his opponent over; she was younger and given what he knew of her previous opponents, clearly skilled. And an outsider. Welcome of course for the tournament, but meant he had plenty of weight on his shoulders in this fight.
Vanish gave Nameless a tired grin and returned the bow, watching close, and as she made her first move, he dodged and spun around to return the favor. Krysin Heya, sorry for the slowness of this post, I'm in the middle of a move and don't have internet yet.

SPE: 10 It was clear that her opponent had made it this far by skill and perhaps experience. She was surprised with how smoothly he managed to dodge her assault, but she was not the sort of wolf to let that surprise distract her. Her mind was only focused on the fight ahead. She would not dwell on the mistakes she may have made, not when her focus should be on incapacitating her opponent.
In an actual fight, thinking too much could lead to her downfall. So, she did not think much at all. Instead, she cleared her mind, trusted her body to know what to do. Nameless had good instinct, and when he spun around to try and swipe at her she deftly dodged back out of his range. Claws dug into the dirt as she skirted to the side and rounded up on Vanish to aim a hard push at his side.

She spun out of his snap just as easily as he had her initial attack but was far quicker on the return than he could have reacted to. Vanish was confused. Nameless was just beside him but now his eyes were flashing between shadows light and dark and his ears rang a shrill pitch. It took a solid few seconds for the pain to kick in and his mind calibrate enough to realize she'd landed her push and tossed him several feet away. There was dirt up his nostrils, and patches of fur torn away and bleeding from the skidding. Vanishing Lichen was certain his shoulder also suffered an injury, the severity he couldn't yet determine.
Laying in the dirt wasn't optimal, oh no, the longer he was down the more likely he'd stay there. Instinct propelled him to get up, his body stiff but adrenaline allowing him to ignore the pain. He gave a cough, then a grin, before making to return the favor.

SPE: 10 She should have felt more sympathetic. Vanish took a hard fall, and for most wolves that would give them pause. Nameless just marked it as another step towards victory. The dark wolf darted back, unsure if he would even be able to get up after such a blow. If he was going to stay down, she wanted to give him the brief chance to make that choice. It was, she believed, in his best interests to give up now before he actually got hurt.
Confidence had fueled that decision, and she couldn't help but frown as he gathered himself and got back onto his feet. "Give up," she insisted, not because she wanted to shame him, but she was already sure that the outcome of this fight would leave her the victor.
He charged at her instead, and Namelessly deftly darted to the side out of his reach. It had been close - he moved far quicker than she had expected out of an older wolf recovering from a harsh blow. But, since he had decided to continue this fight, she would not allow him another moment's reprieve. She lashed out with her forepaws, hoping to land a decent score on him.

He maneuvered out of reach of her claws with fresh vigor, the grin on his maw widening without the least bit of malicious intent in those smiling teeth. He'd be hurting later, but for now he was oblivious to the pain and instead was reveling in the youthfulness of this whole exercise. Sure it was serious -as serious as an invitational tournament could be given the expectation of good-natured revelry- his pack has expectations, and Vanish had his own pride to answer for. But this was fun.
For him this was an exercise in memory. The old wolf reliving memories that he frequented enough in passing but never got to enjoy the full body experience of. It was more than just the glory. It was deeper than that. It was the full connectedness of a bygone time, a deep aching nostalgia that flowed down his whole body. His youth, the fight, the struggle, the kill, all of it. The retired spirit hunter turned to face his opponent more fully.
"Not yet", he answered her earlier comment. Nameless' line of thought was probably correct. He was already hurt and further injury could result in permanent damage. But the risk was worth it to Vanish. He was old, what were a few more aches and creaking joints to him? Darting suddenly, he made for her head on. Current Wordcount: 543
