It was strange to see how the sunlight shimmered over so much water. Valek let out a small sigh as he perched on a bench overlooking the Matori ocean. "Definitely an upgrade from an endless supply of sand, I suppose." He murmured thoughtfully as he tilted his head this way and that way to witness how the image slightly changed. The hybrid teen stretched his arms over his head lazily before the slight rumbling of his stomach reminded him of why he was at the beach and away from the academy in the first place. Yeah, yeah. A smirk crossed his lips before he glanced backwards and towards the stone path leading away from the beach and back into the smaller Matori town. Lanterns, ribbons and chimes of various colors were hanging between the trees and buildings to make everything obnoxiously vibrant for the festival.

Look at that. They even have games set up. Some archery competitions, a game with the bottles that you have to knock down and the like. Perhaps younger, more innocent Valek would have enjoyed such activities but older Valek found himself more enticed by the smell of foods and the jingle of coins as other earthlings walked past. His father provided a slight allowance but there was much more fun to see what his fingers could quietly snag from others whenever he moved through the crowds.

*pulls this thread from the depths* heart

Though she was a less-than-vigilant student, Shierra did know a thing or two about dancing. It was difficult to not pick up habits here and there with a mother like she had. While dancing itself was not of much interest to the fiery hybrid, some of the skill did come in handy. With her competitive side ever-present, she had joined a group in a balancing contest. Whoever lasted the longest standing on one leg on a cut of log got the money. She was quite pleased to have won the event, a little extra weight in her coin purse. She had plenty of money, but earning some herself while making some snobby 'pures' eat some humble pie was all the more satisfying.

Speaking of pie, it was time for a victory treat! She stood at one of the pie stalls, one hand on her purse while the other tapped her fingers against her jaw. The mid-season harvests had such a variety of flavors available, and picking just one was almost impossible. Instead.. it was a matter of which one she ate first.

It was hard to not notice the hybrid girl who had won the competition. Valek found his dark gaze lingering after the girl as she walked away from the group and ventured towards some of the food stalls. A mischievous glint lit those silver orbs as he decided that the pies did look tantalizingly tempting today. Making certain to pocket his extra earnings for the day, Valek walked up next to the other hybrid and pointed towards one of the pies.

"The wildberry is really good." He mused with a small smile as he glanced towards the girl. "If you like it to be a little tart that is." Valek liked the flavors in comparison to something really sweet. Bitter and sour things were always his favorites along with spicy foods. Valek smirked as he motioned to the seller and handed over a coin for one of the darker fruit tarts, the crust light and flaky. It easily melted into his mouth as he took a bite, the flavors dancing across his tongue. "Yep, wildberry is the best."

Shierra was attempting to choose between two for her first slice when she was approached. Her eyes slid over to check who was talking, intrigued by the unusual boy. Brow cocking, she couldn't help a playful smirk in return. "And how much is the owner paying you to say that?" she teased. She stepped forward and pointedly ordered a slice of the rhubarb pie. After a dainty bite, she sighed contently and nodded, tossing a smile over to the stranger. "Yum~"

Valek chuckled at the playful tease. "Depends on how much you buy." He quipped back with a wink before taking another bite and letting out a happy groan. Valek kept his distance yet his gaze made certain to keep an eye on the coin pouch as she purchased a piece of pie for herself. "Interesting choice." He replied with a grin before he slowly licked the remnants of his own treat from his fingertips. His dark gaze gleamed with amusement as he studied the other hybrid thoughtfully and he found himself speaking up once more, "So does a pretty girl like you have a good idea of how to pass time at a festival like this? I think I should probably find something else to explore out here before they have to roll me away from the pies." If she said yes then he would be curious to see how she enjoyed these festivals and if not then he could offer some suggestions. If anything got him closer to her side then that would be a delightful bonus that would hopefully result in his own savings increasing by the end of the night. Even if it wasn't necessary for him to do so it was his own version of a challenge, a fun way to pass the evening as his own pockets grew heavier with each conquest.

"Delicious choice," she corrected him playfully around her next bite. A perfect first choice, too! Such a tang that sparked her taste buds! Her gaze slid over to give the other teen a side look. "Pretty, huh?" She smiled brightly with no consideration to any rhubarb chunks in her teeth and batted her eyes, more amused than anything else. It was always so cute to see them flirting. "You mean aside from kicking everyone else's butts in the competitions?" She laughed and let the cutsie façade fall away again. "I dunno. These pies are so good it might be worth it to get rolled out." Still, with her family and usual companions off on their own interests, maybe she could entertain a new face for a while. She shrugged and let herself give a more serious note. "The games are usually pretty fun. Have you been to one of these here before?"

Delicious choice indeed. Valek's gaze flashed with mischievousness as he watched the stranger finishing her treat. Perhaps he had been caught up in his studies and family division so much lately that it didn't take much to entertain him but the sight of her reaction to the compliment brought unexpected laughter to his lips. "Yes, yes." He replied with a grin, "If you want to indulge then I guess I can volunteer to shove you down the hill later towards wherever you need to go. I promise to try to steer clear of the ocean." The teen chuckled at the thought before her next question made him pause.

"Not really no." Valek admitted after a moment. "I was raised in Oba and just recently came to Matori so these festivals are new to me. My mother rarely liked going out to Oban festivals so I just watched from afar." A fair enough truth considering his mixed heritage and how protective his family could be, especially when it was mostly his mother watching him while his father worked away from home because of the military. So they never really went to any festivals as family save for maybe when he was much younger and things were different. Now they were divided and Valek accepted that whenever he left home to do his own thing as well. "So I guess I'll be relying on your merciful spirit to show me the ropes of what one is supposed to be doing at a place like this. I'm guessing you like the games? So maybe you could point me to a couple and we can try our luck?"

Sucking her fingers clean with exaggerated popping sounds of suction, Shierra hummed and nodded. "Would appreciate that. I'm sure I'd float, but I can't guarantee I'd be able to steer myself at all." She could just imagine being so stuffed that she could only lie there while she floated away! It was enough to make her laugh. At least the guy was funny~

"Oba, huh? I mostly stay in Matori, but I've spent lots of time there, too. My mom's from there and runs a dance studio from her old house, so we went there a lot." She smirked lightly. "Though, my mother would certainly never miss a festival. She's too.. buoyant." With another soft chuckle, she nodded and turned to head for the games.

..but first, she spun back and quickly ordered a slice of the wildberry pie. "If this isn't as good as you promise, we aren't going anywhere." A short moment after her first bite, she turned and waved her fingers. "Alright, come along. What game strikes your fancy?"

Valek actually found himself chuckling as she went along with his antics. Some girls would have just rolled their eyes by now and walked along but this was nice. The hybrid stretched his arms above his head as he waited for her to finish her pie and found himself tilting his head with interest as she spoke of her family. "Dancing, hmm? Does that run in the family?" He asked almost playfully, his gaze gleaming as he imagined what it would be like to see some dancing. His family had been so reserved well minus his father of course that it would be strange to even imagine having a dancer for a mother. Valek had picked up some tidbits on healing, mostly because of his own decisions that led to injuries, but he could imagine that he would have wanted to learn dancing if that had been possible.

"I'm guessing that the pie passed the test then." Valek grinned before preparing to follow Shierra along through the festival grounds. "Anything physical perhaps? I'm not certain. I'm good at tossing things and throwing punches, sound reasonable enough for festival games?"

Shierra cocked his head thoughtfully before a chuckle escaped her. "At least for the girls in the family. I'm not that interested, but I am good at it. Pretty sure my oldest brother is hopeless, and my dad's not much better. He can jump around with a shield like it's a feather, but don't try asking him for more than a few steps of a dance!" She had her share of toes stepped on to know better!

"Physical then. There's always the classic ball throw to knock over the stack of bottles." She cocked her hip and leaned a little closer in a secretive manner. "Just gotta be careful. Some of those jokers like to try setting them up with supports so they don't fall like they should." She straightened back up and pointed over to the section of games. "Just always aim to hit hard the first time. Most of the bad ones know they'll end up with their stand on fire if they try looping me into their scams."

"Pffft. Sounds about right." Quipped Valek with a small grin. "Though I think I could hold a few moves on my own if given the chance." He gestured about playfully as if doing some sort of dance, his movements more mischievous than anything serious. His fighting lessons were almost like dancing, right? So why not show off a bit of his form whenever given the chance? Even if Valek still wasn't certain about what path he would be taking the teen already knew several forms of martial arts thanks to the academy where he was staying. It was why he was looking for a more physical game at the festival rather than something based on luck or the like. "Aaah." He murmured in return with a small frown at Shierra's warning. It seemed that luck would be required instead of just skill then....how unfortunate.

"Sounds good." Valek found himself musing as he followed her gesture towards the game section before stopping midway. "Wait...what was that about a stand on fire?" He asked with a raised brow towards Shierra. "Is there something I should be warned about before I misstep?" His silver gaze studied her as he stood a few feet away from one of the many game stands, the prizes looming along the top shelves while a crowd moved about them others playing around at the various game stands while Valek stood still.

Shierra pursed her lips and watched Valek dubiously. "Uh-huh. My mother would be a better judge than me, but I guess you got some potential." A light smirk lifted, wondering what her mother would make of such playful moves. Her focus had turned back to the games, but she looked back curiously at his call. Very slowly, her own mischievous grin spread across her lips. "You should only be concerned if you're planning to cheat me on something like they did~" she crooned, her tone threateningly sweet.

Valek winked towards Shierra. "A little potential is better than outright rejection in my book." He teased with a smirk of his own in return. Honestly he had at first wanted to just try and steal what he could from the girl, especially considering that coin purse he had noticed, but now he was having fun more than anything else. Perhaps Valek would just wait and see how the rest of the festival played out before making any rash decisions but something about her warning made him pocket the temptations for another day. Hadn't he stolen enough after all?

"Alright, then I'll just cheat the cheaters over there then." Valek finally replied with a chuckle. "Though I'd love to see exactly how worried I should be about getting on your bad side." He certainly did love a dash of danger in life but maybe not today. The hybrid teen glanced towards the game stall and gestured towards one of the top prizes, a large snaptrotter toy with rainbow scales. "Let me grab a ball and I'll win that for you as insurance that I won't be in trouble with you today." If anything a miscreant like him had plenty of experiences with the tricks of others and so Valek would make certain to hold true to his word and win her that prize before they separated ways at the end of the festival.

Shierra snorted and shrugged. "I get the feeling that you'll eventually find out if we bump into each other enough times," she mused lightly. Another encounter didn't seem all that likely to her, but he certainly seemed like he had a sneaky side that could push a button or two. She was always happy to put sassy people into their place... but for now, she was enjoying their time. A quick glance to the prize that he said he would win for her, and her wicked smile shifted into one with more delighted warmth. "I'll take it." Even if she never saw him again, she would definitely take what this evening was offering with him.
