Tyiva enjoyed walking around Jatine. While the city was not as populated as Sulburi, the area was nice with a constant fresh breeze coming in from the lakes and natural springs that dotted the landscape. It definitely was far more refreshing than the dusty desert breezes that brushed through the streets of Sulburi. Since they lived in an estate closer to Jatine, Tyiva often found herself coming here to order supplies or pick up goodies for the family from the local bakery. It was during her last trip that she had heard about the festival of the lanterns and had asked her family to tag along. Now that the festivities were in full bloom all around them, vibrant ribbons and lanterns swaying in the evening breeze with their colors brightening up the otherwise gray stone buildings, the town seemed almost magical.
Everyone else had opted to go play at the games or grab snacks while Tyiva was content enough to browse for any special trinkets that caught her attention. All that mattered was that they met up at the end of the festival for the lanterns as they were released into the night skies.

“Oh what a beautiful sword!” Cahira beamed as she ran a finger along the hilt of a more elegant blade, the edges curved upwards with a hilt designed like a dragon. “May I try it out?” She asked the shopkeeper who frowned slightly at the younger girl who had rushed to their shop. The little stall had been set outside with other vendors selling trinkets and the like, the blades more for show than for true fighting, but despite that the Oban seemed slightly concerned about the hybrid girl dancing away with a weapon in the middle of all the festivities.
“Umm...I don’t know. Is it not enough to just look at it on display?”

Tyiva had been looking through some chimes, little trinkets that she could hang around the courtyard for decorations when the young hybrid had caught her attention. Was the girl interested in some blades? Realizing that the shop keeper seemed loath to trust the apprentice with one of the finer blades, Tyiva came over determined to help out. “Is there something wrong with wanting to test a blade before use?” She questioned the Oban man with a raised brow.

Cahira’s lips pursed in protest at the man’s hesitation. “What? Afraid I can’t handle a weapon?” She replied with a deep frown. “I assure you that I can both handle and afford the sword if I so wanted it!” It was while she was reaching for her coin pouch that the Alkidike approached and Cahira found herself pausing, her fingers lightly resting at the top of the pouch where she had almost pulled it free from her sash.
“She’s not wrong. Is there something wrong?” Cahira replied, glancing between the stranger and the vendor. The man obviously seemed flustered now that someone older and much stronger looking had approached the table. [Cahira 2]

“I suppose not, but I want it to stay right in front of me so I can see.” The Oban finally replied with a long sigh. “Don’t want someone to just play around with my wares when I’m looking for a sale.”
Tyiva smirked, “Fair enough. I don’t think the girl is going to cheat you.” She had already noticed that the girl had some fine hair pieces and that the silk dress was something that other noble families often wore to such events. Spending more and more time in Oba had taught her to notice such things and it was fairly apparent that the girl next to her was either from some decent money or good at faking it. It just seemed that some Obans were still blind to anything beyond being mixed blood. Who would expect a hybrid girl to be from nobility? Though in this day and age...Tyiva shook her head with a small frown. Hopefully her children would not have too many problems as they grew up and ventured outside the comforts of home.

“Really?” Cahira let out a huff before glancing back at the weapon. If it wasn’t such a perfect gift for her mother….I would have already left. She glanced towards the Alkidike and gave a thankful smile. “Thank you for bringing some sense to this place.” She chastised the merchant indirectly before finally placing the pouch of coins on the table. “There. I’ll try the sword and if I like it enough I’ll buy it. So you aren’t wasting a sale.”

“You’re welcome.” Tyiva chuckled at the spunk the hybrid girl had. It was refreshing to see such spirit in the younger generation. The spirit of a warrior if she was an Alkidike for certain. As she watched the girl holding out a hand for the blade, Tyiva frowned thoughtfully. Would it be rude to ask her if she knew how to weild a weapon like that? Was she simply after it because it was pretty or was there more behind the girl’s intentions? Despite her questions, Tyiva kept quiet and simply waited as a spectator to see how the girl would handle the elegant sword.

Taking the blade from the merchant, Cahira gave him a tight smile. “Thank you, sir.” Perhaps it was a bit bratty of her to act this way but it was hard not to be haughty after the way he had almost turned down her request. Seeing his change of mind after the Alkidike had approached and the way that her coins had shut down any other protest, Cahira felt a bit exasperated. Did she truly have to flash coin to get everything? Couldn’t she just be seen as trustworthy from the get go? Merchants. Shaking the thoughts aside, Cahira unsheathed the weapon and took a step away from everyone else. Perhaps it would be surprising to see but she moved like an expert whenever she handled the blade to test its balance. Sharpness wasn’t that big of an issue and neither was strength. What mattered was how well her mother could dance with the blade.
“Take a step back please?” She found herself asking the stranger as she prepared to twist around with the blade in hand.

Tyiva found herself actually impressed when she watched the girl handling the blade. It was obvious that this was not her first time with a weapon nor did Tyiva think it would be the last. “Ah, yes.” She blinked in surprise at the question before taking several steps backwards. “Go ahead.” She gestured as she waited to see exactly how the girl planned to test out the blade.

“Thanks.” Cahira gave a small smile before twisting into action. Her lithe body moved like an expert, years of watching her mother dancing and years of practicing in the shadows coming to fruition in the smoothness of her movements. Perhaps she was not as sensual a dancer as her mother just yet and perhaps she didn’t know the most complicated of dances that her mother had spent years learning, but Cahira had some talent indeed. It’s perfect. She thought to herself with a smile once she was done with the motions of the dance, the sword still fitting in her hand perfectly.
“I’ll take it.” She called out to the merchant who had actually found himself watching with interest along with the stranger. Knowing that she had gotten attention from others passing gave Cahira plenty of reason to smile with pride. It looked like she truly had inherited some things from her mother after all.

As the girl finished up her purchase, Tyiva took a moment to consider what she had just witnessed. That’s definitely potential. She thought to herself before finding her cheeks flushed with some shame. Her mothers would have died if they knew she had considered a hybrid earthling talented enough to learn their dance. As it was they had already ostracized her from the family for loving an earthling and having hybrid children. Tyiva gave a small huff before realizing that both the girl and the merchant were staring at her. “Oh!” Quickly she moved to look over the stand and her fingers rested upon a small dagger, a legendary fire bird decorating the blade with a golden handle set with crimson and amber glass to match. “I’ll take this.”

Cahira chuckled as she watched the Alkidike quickly exchange money for a gift of her own. “You didn’t have to.” She whispered quietly as they both pulled away from the vendor and back into the festivities. “He didn’t have to get two sales with such a poor attitude.” She shook her head though she clung to the strap of her satchel where she had put away the sword. Her mother would hopefully love this weapon! Cahira could not wait to see her mother dancing with the new blade and imagined how lovely a dance it would be. Surely something almost like a living flame or a dragon fighting.

Tyiva grinned in response to the girl’s whisper. “Ah, but at the same time I have to admit the wares are nice.” She lifted the dagger before slipping it into her own travel bag. “I was shopping for gifts before the lanterns as it was. However, I did not think to get such a free performance like that one. You truly have some talent.” She praised the girl with a small smile as they continued walking side by side through the crowds.

“Fair enough.” Cahira shook her head with amusement. “Sometimes I just want to buy a whole stall out just to see their reactions.” She quipped lightly before glancing back towards the Alkidike, “I truly appreciate your help. I wanted to get a sword for my mother and I’m certain she’ll love this one. Her performances are far more superior to my meager one.” A flush decorated her cheeks at the praise. “I’m Cahira by the way and it was nice having someone to stick up for me.”
“Since you’re shopping before the lanterns are lit would you like some company? I saw some really pretty things around the corner where some artisans are set up. Maybe you’ll like those?”

“Still, it was a lovely performance. I’m sure your mother will be proud.” Tyiva replied in earnest, “It’s a pleasure to meet you Cahira. I’m Tyiva and I’ll gladly accept your company.” She smiled in appreciation as she allowed the girl to lead the way. They would only have some time before the festivities came to a halt for the lanterns after all. Tyiva was glad that she had met someone else though who could help pass the time while she waited and then later caught up with her family to enjoy the rest of the night.
