Mid-Season Harvest Festivals Solo or RP Format

Solo word minimum is 750, RP post minimum is 7PromptWith so many inhabitants of Tendaji still working the lands, it's common that a festival or party is held to celebrate the transition to a new season. With summer in swing, it's about time to celebrate again. This transition goes from cultivating the land to full-harvest, so many hold celebrations to thank the gods for rain, earth, and successful growth of their plants. Be it on Tendaji where the Earthlings celebrate thanks for their crops and land, or the Aishans thank their great mothers for prosperous hunts, or even Kahikinan where they celebrate a transition from the heavy rain season, all of Tendaji has reason to gather during the summer months. [ For this prompt, find someone to celebrate a the change of a season wherever your character is. If your character is alone, now is a great time to consider the transition of the season versus the transition of your life. ]

Niabi felt out of place and slightly on edge. She didn’t know how it was really possible, but after spending a few days guiding Amarone through Jauhar the girl had managed to convince Niabi to go with her on her journey through to Kahikina.
They had just made it to Matori and the harvest festival had just started up. There was so many earthlings out in the streets and everywhere Niabi turned. She hadn’t been around this many outsiders in so long, she just felt uneasy. She towered over the majority of the crowd, though she could see that there were others in the area that peered out over everyone’s Ike herself. Other aishan sisters and cousins, but also strange creatures with scaled skins. She assumed these were the kahikinans she had heard so much about on their travels so far, but it still took her by surprise. She found herself avoiding eye contact with nearly everyone nearby.
”And how long are we staying here again?” She asked Amarone. She hadn’t known Amarone very long, but the girl looked like the type of person to think that this would be a great learning opportunity and Niabi was already steeling herself for a longer stay than expected.

Amarone was looking around the area with wide, bright teal eyes. It had been ages since she had been this side of Tendaji, and she had forgotten how amazing it all was. Or maybe things had changed so much that it was a whole new worldview. She verbally oohed and awed like an excited youngling, mostly focusing on the tools and resources many used to cook the food at the festival. It took a moment for her to snap out of her examination mode to spin around and look up at Niabi.
"Well, most of the ships are taking a break during the festival..." She pondered, before looking up with big excitable eyes, "This is a great opportunity to recover from the long journey, try a little bit of food, and maybe plan our next steps...."
The last one was uncertain, Amarone noticing that Niabi wasn't quite on the same level as her in regards to the festival atmosphere.

Niabi couldn’t help but find it very convenient that the ships all took breaks during festivals. She sighed and stretched her shoulders, trying to work out the kinks and tension. It seemed like it had been forever since she had been to a festival herself, her last memories of one being with Vollerei and her daughter. It was a different time, before much of the expansion of Tendaji and before the wars.
“Well, if there’s no way out…” she trailed off before realizing that she was probably sounding very bleak. “Might as well try the food and get our heads together then.” She nodded to Amarone, trying to be at least a little courteous of the earthling’s feelings. She might be rusty with socializing but there was no reason to ruin Amarone’s good time because she couldn’t save face.
“Did you want to lead the way then?” She asked the girl.

Amarone was still looking around when she heard Niabi's acceptance of the situation, and quietly began to jump around with excitement. She was realizing that Niabi was at a different level than her, so she tried to contain some of her bigger reactions out of respect for her new traveling companion. She really enjoyed Niabi's presence, it was helpful in keeping her focused on her goal, so she didn't want to run her off.
"Yes! I heard that some of the best Fish is caught in Matori. I'm sure they have such amazing ways to cook them."
She remembered the festival in Sauti, back when Belrea was first discovered. The food, while not fully fresh, was amazingly delicious. She couldn't wait to try it first hand, sea to table.

Niabi nodded to Amarone. The fish in Matori was known to be the best in Tendaji; Niabi hadn’t had the opportunity to try any yet but she was curious to see how it ranked against Chibale fish. “We may not have the… eclectic touch of the earthlings, but Chibale fish is also delicious.” She offered the sentiment to Amarone. Earthlings had a way with flavoring their foods that the alkidike didn’t see as necessary, but the Aishan food was still savory and delicious. At least in her opinion, maybe the earthlings thought differently.
Niabi could see the smoke coming from several stalls nearby. “Those look promising, yes?” She couldn’t make out what was on their grill, but the crowds around the tents told Niabi that it was potentially worth the wait.

Amarone pondered the thought, her teal eyes alight with pondering and she nodded quickly, "They must be different over there...being on that side of Tendaji. The fish in Belrea were much different as well, believe it or not."
Though she might not be a fish focused Earthling, curiosity and wonder was something she always loved, and often she would end up chittering about the latest discovery or oddity they came across.
Before she could get too deep in thought, Niabi brought her out of her distraction and she turned to stand on her tip-toes to look ahead. Then, she took a sniff of the air, realizing that she could smell the meat cooking and simmering.
"I believe you have found our dinner yet again, Niabi." She said with cheek as she nodded eagerly.

Niabi nodded at Amarone’s sentiment about the fish. Chibale was a small island, if their fish was already so different than Tendaji’s it would only make sense than Belrea would have something completely foreign.
She let Amarone lead the way to the stall, trailing behind the small earthling. As they approached she could see the fish on the grill. It was skewered and coated in colorful seasoning, very different than what she had been used to all these years, but slightly nostalgic from her teenage years. She hadn’t always been a shut in, although it felt like it was a different life altogether.
When it was their turn, Niabi ordered for the both of them, buying three fish. “An extra to split if you’d like?” She offered Amarone.

Each step closer resulted in the smell filling the air like a thick blanket, and Amarone's stomach clenched as a reminder that she was indeed hungry. As she stood in line and chattered away in nonsense, her eyes daring around in observation at the tools and supplies the water-kin used to fish and bring in their haul, she finally paused to listen to the order and smiled warmly up toward Niabi.
"Of course, might be our last grilled meal before our trip. And it just smells so amazing!"

Niabi nodded her head, holding out one of the fish to her companion. "It does smell enticing." She waited for Amarone to take hers before Niabi bit into her own fish. "I don't think you will be disappointed." She commented to the wind earthling. Niabi hadn't had earthling food like this in quite some time, but it was delicious. She didn't want to admit that she had missed this part of traveling but she did.
"What do you think of the fish?" She asked Amarone, looking at the girl with curiosity in her eyes. Niabi wondered if her taste buds compared to the other girl's.

As she bit in, Amarone's taste buds were filled with an explosion of heat, juice, and spices. Overall, the fresh fish was soft and flavorful, and she let out a hum of approval before going in for another bite.
"It's really good!" She said brightly, before she spun around to see if the tools they used were something different than normal. It looked very similar, if adjusted to be cooked over sand, so she looked back at Niabi, "It must be the spices that make it so good."

Niabi nodded her head approvingly of Amarone’s enthusiasm for the fish. “It is good. I haven’t had anything like this in a very long time.” Niabi had been there for the Oban war, she had tasted water food before, but that was so many years ago.
“How does this compare to what you’re used to?” She asked the wind earthling. She wasn’t as familiar with Sauti as she was with some of the other locations of Tendaji. She knew Amarone had an inquisitive mind, and she was sure the younger earthling was already analyzing and comparing the meal. They hadn’t been together long, but it was something that Niabi was growing to be fond of.

"Oh gosh, it's been forever since I've truly had fish from Sauti..." She replied slowly, pondering as they wandered about aimlessly in their own little bubble, "To be honest, what I remember the most is the wine we paired with our food. My cousins run a winery and insisted that you must pair the drinks properly with your food."
She shook her head, "The fish was always the same...Sauti doesn't have too much variety compared to here..." She sighed a bit, before smiling again up to her companion.
"I know you weren't keen on spending time relaxing, but thank you for indulging me, Nia." She finally said, a bit shyly, "I hope we can enjoy more sights together in Kahikina. I know we have our own missions, but the journey is part of the fun, right?"

Niabi mulled over the idea of wine with food. "It sounds... incredibly foreign. I haven't had wine before, it's not something the alkidike make." She took another bite of her fish while thinking about the exotic drink.
Niabi nodded her head, her eyebrows raising instinctively at the nickname. She didn't think she had ever been called a nickname before. "It's no problem. It's been a long time since I've relaxed on a trip outside of Jauhar. Maybe a few more relaxing days and I'll be a new person." She joked with Amarone.

She smiled slowly at the admittance, before leaning back to consider what might be similar in her culture, "It's made from fruit, but often very dry...and strong. Like a beer or mead." She replied with a shrug, "But unique...guess we'll just have to see if we can grab some...gods forbid if I don't ask my family first."
Well that sounded like a fun challenge, and Amarone nodded once more for good measure, "I'm up for the challenge. Operation relax Niabi is now in effect!"
Taking another bite of her food, Amarone all but chortled at the thought, before looking ahead and pointing to another destination. They had the time, so why not explore and enjoy each other's company before it got hectic again.
