Eternal Senshi

PostPosted: Thu Jul 30, 2020 8:03 am

Years ago, back when she was first getting the hang of being a Senshi, Ganymede would normally turn in the opposite direction of any chaos energy signature that happened to pop up on her mental radar, even that of a lowly Lieutenant. These days, she was a little more willing to make her approach, not because she was more confident in herself or more dedicated to the task at hand, but because there were a few indisputable facts that made approaching a Lieutenant relatively unconcerning.

Fact #1: She was, at her lowest level of power, an Eternal Senshi.

Fact #2: She was, at her highest level of power, a Princess, which she didn’t flaunt unless she had to, but the knowledge that she had that power at her disposal was bolstering.

Fact #3: She could not be corrupted, which lessened the danger of an encounter with an agent of Chaos by a shred.

Fact #4: She could be killed, but a Lieutenant was unlikely to accomplish that when one considered the three previous facts along with the pathetic excuse for weapons the Negaverse tended to saddle them with.

So when she came upon a Lieutenant she’d never met before, Ganymede did not turn away. She let them see her, and note her power, and observe the glowing line on her palm and the golden symbol on her forehead that marked her as a Transcendent Senshi, and she put a small, not-quite-welcoming-but-not-quite-hostile smile on her face in greeting.

“They really shouldn’t send you out without a handler,” she said. “How do they expect you to defend yourself with… sorry, what sort of weapon do you have?”

It looks good to me! ;;

Samsonite had been getting her quopta for the evening, trying to balance quota ewith not killing people, and she'd gotten good at ensuring people made it home for their 'donations' to the Negaverse's cause, and was feeling quite good about herself when the larger aura nibbled the fringes of her senses, and the woman blinked, looking around before turning slowly to see the senshi that had approached. Samsonite wasn't that good with them yet, more familiar with seeing corrupts fliut about, and prying two off some poor terrified order senshi once but nothing else, and she blinked, regarding the stranger with a genuinely friendly expression, if curiousity. She seemed like the Generalsd, in aura, only order, and she blinked before beaming brightly.

"Hello, dear! No, no, I don't think I've ever had a handler, though some of the senshi I've seen around the Negaverse certainly need it, vicious things." Samsonite smiled brightly -- she didn't really like to fight, and the thimble on her finger was pristine as proof, gleaming and unmarred as shew beamed. "And might I say, you are lovely! Arte those tattoos? They go so well with your uniform! It's beautiful! Veryu artisticv! I'm impressed!"

Miss an opportuniuty to praise a well put together look? Never. And so artistic! Samsonite wondered if it was an order thiung or if she should get tattoos like that. She loved the ones on Ganymede -- mistaking Transcendant markings for tattoos as she was.

Ganymede’s first instinct was to be suspicious. There was no telling what a Negaverse agent was secretly plotting, even one as harmless as a Lieutenant.

Her second instinct was confusion, which she was much less successful at holding back. Her expression creased, brows furrowing and lips parting to answer, but her mouth quickly shut again when she realized she had no idea how to respond. Was this Lieutenant for real? Normally they at least tried to act tough even when they were anything but. They had delusions in their heads or something, maybe a very huge chip on their shoulder, put there by an organization that treated them like pawns.

“Who even calls people ‘dear’ anymore?” she muttered to herself, glancing around the area to ensure they were truly alone. Maybe there actually was a higher ranking agent around somewhere and this Lieutenant was acting naive to lure her into a false sense of security.

“They’re not tattoos. They’re—” But Ganymede didn’t bother trying to explain what the glowing markings were, mostly because she didn’t quite know herself. In her case, they were part memory and part Transcendent energy, but as she couldn’t speak for others like her, she thought it best not to generalize. “Wait, I’m sorry, are you new or something? Does the Negaverse not teach Lieutenants anything anymore before throwing them out onto the streets?”

If that was the case, how the hell did any of them survive long enough to make it to General?

Samsonite blinked, watching the Eternal with genuine curiosity. She wasn't sure how to feel at the expressions, but, well, she'd seen how corrupts could her, how guung-jo her superiours had been about fighting the invaders. She didn't like that, but here this one was asking, not attacking, and Samsonite tilted her head curiously herself, blinking before smiling.

"No, no, I've been working for some time, and all! I just don't find it necisary to fight unless I must." She weas still curious, then confused, slowly looking Ganymede over with a careful gaze, one that was disguising it as 'checking someone out' before she puckered her lips and made an odd face before looking confused.

"You look awfully human, for an alien. That's why you have markings if they're not tattoos right? Alien things? I'm terribly sorry I'm not used to your kind."

She was holding off on polite introductions, but being unwilling to start trouble, the lieutenant was merely blunt and wordy. All she knew what what she'd bneen told, and it showed easily under enough scrutiny. But then, anyone whom knew her before, assnd knew the Negaverse, would know she was a rather kind and cheery sould, tricked into a bad situation. And nobody in Destiny City had known her before, bar her sister, whom didn't know her sister was in the Negaverse.

“I’m not an alien.”

Ganymede said it a little too loudly, and more aggressively than she intended, but it pissed her off that these lies were still being spread around when there wasn’t an ounce of truth to them. Sure, the person she was in her past life could be classified as an alien, having been born on a different world and all, but that was a millenia ago.

“I was born here on Earth, just like you,” she said, the tone of her voice a little more controlled this time. “And I was raised here on Earth, just like you, assuming you’re not an alien, or some youma creature from the pits of hell in disguise.”

She folded her arms over her chest defensively, unsure whether to be more annoyed by the Lieutenant’s ignorance, or with the Negaverse as a whole for continuing to spread bullshit information.

“The markings are there because I can’t be corrupted,” Ganymede continued, grasping what patience she could. “My starseed is protected with extra magic or something, and I can give some of my energy to other people when they need it.”

Very purposefully, she left out an explanation about her connection with her homeworld, just so there’d be no more confusion about aliens.

Honestly, couldn’t the Negaverse come up with better talking points for their agents by now? This poor Lieutenant wasn’t going to last if they didn’t invest some time (and legitimate information) into her.

It's ok Sunny! RL is important!

Samsonite startled at Ganymecde's sudden tone and took a step back to give the stronger woman space, eyes wide in saurprise, but she made no motions of hostility. She really wanted to point out it was jusat what her superiours told her, but in the end decided to not, instead blinking as Ganymede explained. Samsonite really dsidn't doubt her either -- ashe sounded sincere!... So had gher superiouers thoufgh. And that confused her more.

"I'm an artist." Was the only answer Samsonite could give before blinking. Corrupted, corrupted... Her head tilted in confusion at the word, and her brows kntt quizzically.

"Corrupted?" She asked. Nobody, she assumed, was really corruipted. Just awakened. That was true... Right?

“Right. Corrupted. You know, that thing you people do when you stick your hand into someone’s chest and pump their starseed full of Chaos.”

Ganymede couldn’t conceal her confusion any better than she could her aggravation. Was the Negaverse really so lax these days? They just threw their Lieutenants out onto the streets with faulty information, or no information at all? Shouldn’t they be a little better organized than that? Unless they’d really gone down hill these last few years. Or maybe whoever was responsible for this agent was just… a failure.

After inhaling deeply, Ganymede let the breath out on a heavy sigh.

Okay. She would just have to do her best to clear up a few things. She could always just leave this Lieutenant to her ignorance, but that seemed pretty heartless.

“That’s what happened to you, isn’t it? Either you were a civilian before they corrupted you, or you were a Page. Someone stuck their hand in your chest and filled your starseed with Chaos or dark energy or whatever you want to call it. They can’t do that to me because there’s some extra magic protecting my starseed, so usually your people just try to kill me.”

Therrre waS A differtentp/i] word for what they told her asnd the twitch of a frown indicated Samsonite had a faint idea that she might have been liued to.

Might. She had to think about it several moments before her brows knit into a look of discomfort as she drewq on a memory.

"Is that why Negaverse senshi seem so.... despicable?" She scowled -- she didn't like the feeling of any of this. "I was told my awakening was normal. But I jhave seen Senshi in the Negaverse on the field buylly another of your people and made them drop it. That's... That's not right. She seemed so terrified..."

Ganymede had to hold several reactions back. More confusion. Frustration. A comment about “bully” perhaps not being the most accurate description, in that it wasn’t nearly enough to describe some of the murder and mayhem she’d seen over the years, but the Lieutenant was clearly out of her depth, and Ganymede figured she shouldn’t add to it by reacting to or commenting on things that weren’t as important as the fact that the Negaverse was sending ignorant agents out into the field.

“The Negaverse has done a lot of bad things,” Ganymede said, though bad things wasn’t quite an accurate description either. “Not that my side hasn’t reciprocated, but those occasions tend to be few and far between. If you don’t mind me asking, if you thought it was wrong for that Negaverse Senshi to attack one of us… why are you involved with the Negaverse in the first place?”

She had a hard time believing any agent would recruit someone who seemed so… different? Lost? Certainly not what Ganymede had come to expect, even from a Lieutenant.

Samsonite tuilted her head at Ganymede's question, then looked thoughtful, trying to word her answer as best possible.

"I was carting for my sister at the time. It seemed like a good way for her to be safe." Samsonite blinked. "I fulfill my quota, sher's kept safe and sound. Mind she doesn't need me now, but patrols become an odd habit IO suppose." Samsonite shrugged, entirely comfortable shariong an answer.

"Nobody's really a saint in copnflict. That's fact. But these two were ganging up scariong that poor senshi -- twerrible conduct." And then Samsonite rolled her eyes. "Not like trhe higher ups ever care what one says when cpomrades act up[. There's the Geneva conventuion for a reason!"

Samsonite wasn't over the incident, not really, even now, and the Liutenant huffed angrily.

“That’s… I mean, you’re not wrong,” Ganymede said, though she wasn’t entirely sure if the Geneva Convention actually applied in this situation. The battle raging on between the Negaverse and the White Moon wasn’t exactly your run-of-the-mill war.

She continued to stare at the Lieutenant, her suspicion decreasing with every word out of the agent’s mouth. There was still a chance this Lieutenant could be putting on an act, but her confusion and her disapproval both seemed genuine. Slowly, Ganymede’s posture grew less defensive, and though her expression was not as friendly as it would have been around someone on her side of things, she at least didn’t appear hostile.

“How long have you been working for the Negaverse?” she asked, genuinely curious. By her behavior, Ganymede had assumed she was relatively new, but if she joined to keep her sister safe and her sister no longer needed her… that seemed to imply that a certain length of time may have passed. “And if you don’t approve, why don’t you just… leave? You don’t have to stay with the Negaverse, you know.”

"Me? A few years," She shrugged. "I just don't try attracting attention to myself." Samsonite shrugged, head inclining in thought as she shrugged. Then she blinked. She didn't mind answering the woman's questions -- Samsonite was a laid back sort more interested in art than fighting -- but that was somethiing she didn't quite follow.

"Leave?" She repeated in confusion. "I mean, if you mean 'not power', I'm pretty suyre it's Not Allowed."

She wasn't foolish, but the plane decidedly cleared the tower this time.

How could anyone be in the Negaverse for a few years and not know what Ganymede viewed as basic information? Granted, Ganymede had been doing this for almost ten years now, so maybe she was being unfair and just didn’t remember what it was like to be new and uninformed, but she was pretty sure she’d never been quite this bad. She might not have been a fighter, but she knew things. She made sure she knew things. It was the only defense she’d had.

“I don’t mean ‘not power,’” she said, raising a hand up to her forehead to rub at her temples. “I mean you can purify. When you joined the Negaverse, they filled you with Chaos energy. That energy can be removed. That’s purification. You wouldn’t have to answer to them anymore.”

Then she might have a target on her back, of course, but it had to be better than being an unwitting pawn. What the hell was Laurelite doing letting her Lieutenants walk around without a clue?

“You’d lose some of your memories and you’d need a new identity, but at least you wouldn’t be stuck working for people who clearly don’t care about you.”

Samsonite blinked, although she recognized iurritation, and she knew at least with her superiours getting on their bad side was... not wise, so surely that was the case here, and she eyed Ganymede with the same caution she might her superiors if they were in a Mood -- leave some space and make conversation shortewr before thjey grew angry at her or similar.

"iSN'T THAT... dAngerous?" She asked cautiously, but she was using a measured tone, guaging the situation. All she knew was this was likely getting Not Safe, and she wanted to stay, well, safe.

“It’s only dangerous if the Negaverse knows you’ve purified and hunt you down because of it,” Ganymede said. “But there are protections put in place when it happens. They wouldn’t know who you are anymore.”

She dragged tense fingers down her face, aware that the Lieutenant could be misinterpreting her behavior as irritation at her and not at the people responsible for her. Ganymede took what she hoped would be a settling breath and dropped her hands to meet the Lieutenant’s gaze again.

“Don’t you have a General you report to?” she asked. “Who are they? Benitoite? Buddingtonite? Stabs the Impaler? Are any of them still alive? Honestly, they’re all s**t people in their own ways, but I thought they were at least competent enough to make sure their Lieutenants had all the right information. It doesn’t benefit anyone to let you wander around… like this.”
