Normally on a beautiful sunny day Orias would be looking for food or beer to swipe while wandering about Destiny City. After all, he had to do something to occupy his time while Reggie was out working. Evenings were for tinkering and stuff around the house, otherwise no one would be home to be amazed by his works of genius. Or exasperated. The Mauvian's bonded senshi reacted so negatively to things in general, poor man. Come to think of it, Namielle would be home, but that NEET didn't count.

On this particular sunny day, however, Orias had a particular ongoing mission in mind. Most Order members seemed content to just wander about until trouble found them or vice versa. He'd say that was horribly inefficient considering the faster one did their mission, the faster they could get back to drinking beer. Not that Order work and beer were mutually exclusive time-wise. The feline did his best work whilst a little buzzed.

This mission was to benefit others who wanted to maximize their enjoyment of their free time. He was still working out the logistics of tech to do the work for him, so for now Orias was attempting to sniff out Chaos hotspots the old-fashioned way: actual padding around and sniffing. Results were mixed, but at least he had a few spots in the city that he was fairly sure saw regular action. Currently, the particular park lamppost standing in front of him looked awfully suspicious. Almost like it was trying to hide something.

"You're a Negaverse meeting spot, aren't you?" Orias whispered sneakily, leaning close to the grimy metal base of the structure so no passerby would hear. "A beacon of wickedness, and..."

Sniff, sniff.

"Dog pee! Well now I know you can't be trusted, central park lamp number E-473! You're going in the log!"

Annoying as it was, Orias did need to maintain the appearance of a normal cat while out and about. No pedestrians were really that close, but pulling out a tablet to key in info would be rather noticeable even at a distance. Instead, he'd opted to simply place pawprints on a map for reference later. Of course such a low-tech solution required concentration to even begin to be an accurate approximation, and he leaned forward to concentrate (probably more than necessary) on the map.

Just a random cat staring at a map, nothing out of the ordinary there. Why would anyone think to spook him from behind?

Quiet nights were hard to find. This was a new development. For months, Pendour hadn't had any qualms about ignoring any auras she felt when she left her apartment in the evenings to go to space, but she was trying so hard these days to be more active on Earth, to bring all the peace and hope she could to her own neighborhood. It was working. There were two agents she thought she could purify, although it was taking time to get the answers on how. There were allies, too, who were struggling or looking for answers of their own. Every time she came out, it seemed like there was someone else to talk to.

That was all well and good, but she didn't want to neglect her wonder, either. That was why she was out in brad daylight in her squire regalia, holding the trowel she'd gotten from the odd merchant in one hand and a flat of discount impatiens from the garden center in the other.

She walked down the sidewalk with the mermaid-skirt swishing behind her. There weren't too many people out. That was good. She could just pop up and back while everyone was at their day job, couldn't she? She just needed to find a place where she was out of sight enough not to surprise anyone when she vanished.

That was when she saw the cat. It wasn't so odd for a cat to be staring at a piece of paper. She'd seen a few videos. Cats liked staring at things. It started getting strange when he didn't stop staring.

Well, maybe this was a chance to get some of her answers, even in the daylight. She edged a bit closer, although not too close. There was always the chance he belonged to Chaos.

"Hello, Mauvian," she said, and then as soon as it was out of her mouth she blinked and added, "Wait, is that rude? It's like saying 'hello, human,' isn't it? I'm sorry." There was a pause while she stared at his fluffy gray tail. "Um, hello?"

There was always the chance it was a normal cat, too, and she was just talking to the air, but she'd found that there was no way to know without asking.

"You know, if I was just a regular cat you'd look pretty stupid just holding a one-sided conversation with it as if it could talk back," Orias responded without turning around.

Popping open his sub-space pocket, he non-nonchalantly shoved his map inside where it disappeared from sight. Satisfied that his work, tedious as it was, was now secure, the Mauvian turned to address what better have been some sort of Order devotee. Or Chaos, but his tail floofs should've prickled if that was the case. So Order, he was betting.

Finally deigning to regard the source of the voice, it seemed the girl was some manner of knight. Didn't seem full-fledged, but not mini either. Somewhere right in the middle? Not that it mattered much, he didn't know too many knights as it was.

"Luckily for you, you're not going to look crazy today. Hello human. Did you need something? I'm mapping. And what are you doing out and about in that get-up anyway? I know Destiny City is kind of weird, but people tend to start noticing if you prance about in your cosmic undies."

He canted his head in thought, tail swishing from side to side while he cast a lazy glance around to make sure no random civilians had drawn close. He'd get such a rant from Reggie if he was caught talking and caused a stir. Personally he didn't see what the big deal was, but such was life in a civilized household.

"Maybe you're off to do something chivalrous. Nothing Negaversey around here right now, aside from this traitorous lamppost I'm thinking. If you're going to wrestle it with super strength I'm totally up to watch that."

Pendour's expression went from bright to somewhat knit-browed and worried as the cat talked and then half-insulted her within a matter of seconds. Was this going to be one of the ones who was all aggression? His words didn't bother her so much. "Maybe," she answered, voice soft. She'd gotten plenty of strange looks even before she'd gotten the "cosmic undies," as he called them, and the scars. Now that he mentioned it, it likely did have something to do with her habit of talking to things that couldn't talk back.

Instead of looking into his eyes, she stared at where the map had been. "What are you mapping?" she asked. "You don't have to hide it. I like hearing about people's projects." Now that she'd gotten a look at his star, which was gold, she didn't think that he was in the Negaverse, so hopefully he was working on something that was more interesting and less nefarious.

"Well, these streets aren't so busy right now, but I'm dressed up to go to my wonder," she said. She nodded at her trowel and flowers as if that would explain everything. "I've been trying to get around to it at night, but I keep getting interrupted by the Negaverse." Her voice was still pleasant, not frustrated. She was making progress with a few of the officers, even if others could be cruel.

She smiled at him, even though she still looked a little nervous. "I thought I could say hi, though."

"A question for a question, that's fair," Orias admitted with a shrug. "You don't look like you'd try to steal my fabulously-detailed work anyway. If I'm right, you're a nice girl who likes flowers and reading and sparkles and rainbows. Or you're secretly a psychopath and I'm going to greatly regret opening my mouth in the first place. Can never really tell with the quiet ones."

With a quick twirling flourish of the paw, the Mauvian wrenched open his subspace pocket once more and leaned in up to the shoulder. Little kitty tongue poking out in concentration, he rummaged around through the various stuff and things.

"Senshi Glass Mark 1.3, nope. B.U.T.L.E.R. bits, nah. Oh hey, I'd wondered where I'd put that!"

A thick bottle of what was obviously some form of alcohol with a rather arcane label came tumbling to the grass, and Orias popped open the top for a hearty swig with his free foreleg.

"Ah, here we go."

Swapping his drink for the furled map, the feline snapped his pocket dimension shut with a nod and rolled the sheet of parchment open.

"Low tech I know, but I haven't finished work on my bigger array yet. I'm mapping out any Chaos hotspots I can sniff out, but it's slow going. There's only one awesome me, and I wouldn't have it any other way, but it's a big city. So it's taking a while."

He pointed at the map where he'd smacked on a pawprint for the lamppost in front of them.

"Had just marked this evil bit of hardware when you walked up."

Orias looked up to the girl.

"What's your name, anyway? And what are you a thingy of? Knight wonders can be interesting after all, I haven't been to many. Please don't tell me it's some random ancient flower on a hillock in some little country that no one in the modern world has ever heard of."

Pendour tilted her head. "Sparkles? That's the second time a Mauvian's said that to me." She looked down to her dress, lifting a handful of silk. "Is it the outfit?" It was true that she was absolutely dripping with pearls and splendor, but none of it quite glittered. "You should see the Cosmos knights, or some of the senshi," she said. "But no. I won't steal anything."

She lowered herself down, sitting cross-legged right on the pavement. The alcohol did get a double take, but nothing more. She was more focused on the map when it appeared. She hunched over it, holding down a corner with the tip of her trowel. Some of the pawprints were a little smudged, but overall she thought she was getting the idea. "Okay," she said, then squinted at base of the lamp post that was now towering over them. It did seem impossibly tall from this angle, like it was watching over them, but she wasn't sure if it was evil.

"What did you find here? Um, do you think it's safe?" She didn't sense any evil, any Chaos, in general, but she'd had auras sneak up on her before. It wouldn't be any good to go across the solar system if something was going on.

She straightened at the questions, maybe a little too quickly. "Oh, right. Sorry. I'm Pendour of Neptune. Um, a squire, if that's what you mean by 'thingy.'" She put down the trowel to hold up the symbol on her belt. She laughed, light and sweet, and the mental image of a flowered hillock. "No, it's not just garden. That's the easiest part for me to fix, that's all. It's an underwater dome with a cove, buildings, places I haven't explored, even."

She pursed her lips, thinking back to the bottle. "I wonder where they kept their food and drinks."

Orias nodded along as this Pendour person chittered away, going on about clothes and not stealing and fear of bodily harm. You know, girl stuff. He was only listening with half an ear, inserting the occasional "Uh huh" and "That's what you said, alright," to give the appearance of holding up his side of the conversation. In reality, he was more focused on the sizable swigs of his beer that he was taking during the whole thing. He ran out right about the time that the squire was showing her symbol. Tossing the empty bottle back into his inter-dimensional backpack (it was good ammo after all), the Mauvian paid a little more attention.

"While it's evil, I think it's only a conduit of evil," he explained knowingly, jerking his head at the light. "It won't do much until its nefarious friends gather around it and plot dastardly deeds. So you're safe for now. Besides, no agent would dare try anything with you while I'm around!"

He'd had a feeling an ethereal wispy girl like this would have something to do with flowers, and he'd been right. It wasn't just one, it was a whole garden. Of course it was. But apparently it was on Neptune. Underwater. With caves and stuff. Unexplored caves! Maybe it even had...

"Well, that sounds truly fascinating," Orias responded, allowing some sincerity to creep into his tone. "And as for the food and drink, I've totally got you covered."

Reaching one more time into subspace, he retrieved a sealed bag and a pouch of some off-brand kid's fruit drink.

"Jerky and uh... Sicily Moon. I bring the juice so people don't ask for my beer. I don't share beer. But if you brought your own, it'd totally be a road trip! Because that's where you're going, right?

"Neptune water garden? If you're dressed like that and not patrolling, I mean what else would you be doing. And I'll even come along to keep you safe. It's my duty as a Mauvian, I'm sure Atty would say. So how about it? Jerky for a ride?"

He jingled the bag of meat strips for emphasis with a cheeky half-grin, showing just the tip of a gleaming kitty fang.

Pendour was distracted in her own way, once it was confirmed that there were no forces of evil nearby. There was something about him that reminded her of the other cats, a sort of spunk that brought a smile to her face even as her brows furrowed deeper. He didn't need to be throwing himself at the Negaverse on her behalf, really, but she decided to leave that can of worms firmly closed.

Her focus was mostly on the beer, anyway, and then by the shaking of the bag of jerky in front of her face. although rather than continuing to stare at the cat she looked up to where the fluffy clouds were drifting across the sky.

"It's a little funny," she said, in a voice that was more dreamy than amused. "The very first time I went to my wonder, I had to buy this other knight beer to get him to go with me, and now you've got your own and you're offering me snacks." She smiled up at a cloud that looked like one of the juice packets, if she squinted. "It feels full circle, somehow. Well, you're free to come with me, anyway." She turned back to the cat and the beef jerky with a half-smile. "There's no price."

If she ever did decide to start charging entrance fees, it would need to be something a little nicer than a snack that looked quite so dry and sad.

"Are you ready?" she asked, shifting her belongings around so she could reach out a hand to him. "We'll have to be in contact if you want me to take you."

Orias's grin faded into a set line with a brow quirking upward at the woman's airy demeanor. Pendour definitely seemed like the perfect candidate for an extraterrestrial flower garden. Hell she was even looking at clouds and smiling dreamily when there was jangling jerky in her face. Tragic.

"Well if that's the way you want it, more for me. More than happy to not share my delicious foodstuffs. And I even still get a ride. Kind of all wins for me across the board."

Tossing the jerky back into subspace, he gave a paw-five to the squire before clambering up to perch comfortably upon her shoulder. Given his size, he looked like a very content, very large furry parrot.

"Easier to hold onto my beer this way. And since I think you'd be perfectly content just knowing me as Mauvian, I'm Orias. It's a name you'll be glad you learned, I'm a mover and a shaker. Now onward, squire! To adventure, hyah!"

For added motivation, he gave a thumping motion on Pendour's shoulder with one of his rear paws.

Pendour did stiffen just for a moment as the huge cat was suddenly climbing on her, but she was quick to relax into it and nod. "Okay," she said. "To adventure, then." She murmured her oath, and they were off.

Orias would be glad to see that her wonder was not all garden. It was not even mostly garden. There was one garden, that on closer inspection seemed to have received the better part of the squire's restoration efforts, but it was smallish and off to the side.

Everything else was manmade. Just the basic structure was something of an architectural wonder. They were in a bubble of glass under the ocean, like a reverse fishbowl. Large stone arches held up the glass dome above them. Even though they were crumbling in places, the ceiling seemed to be holding firm.

What was around them was also made of stone. It was mostly marble with bits of glass and shell. Many of the surfaces were decorated with faded mosaics. A grand staircase curved up to their left, leading to a visible second level. Directly in front of them, some distance away, was some kind of focal point of columns and arches, although it was hard to make out the details from where they stood.

Pendour glanced up at the cat on her shoulder. "Did you want the regular tour, or should we go straight into exploring the unknown?"

There was a feeling like his stomach had dropped out, and Orias quickly lifted a paw to cover his kitty mouth and fight down a quick surge of nausea. He didn't want to lose his tasty lunch after all.

"Bleh. I'll never get used to that feeling," he grumbled, landing rather heavily as he sprung from Pendour's shoulder to the ground. "But hey, swanky place you've got here! Not really what I imagined when you said 'garden,' after all. Lookit all the neat stuff. And water! Fur doesn't go well with it, but it's pretty when it's trapped behind a wall."

He peered around the magnificent architecture with an inexpressive visage. For as awe-inspiring as it was, it was completely lost on the Mauvian. Beauty to him was glowing electronics and gleaming alloys. The hiss of actuators. This was alright though. Definitely not bad.

"Oh, don't worry your pretty little head about what we can see here," he responded to the tour query. "Got that covered."

Another quick yank out of subspace and Orias was strapping a tiny watch-shaped device to one of his forelegs. A few taps on the screen brought it to life, and after a short time it gave a pleasant chime.

"See? All settled. Sent out a quick pulse and have all these topical features mapped."

Another tap and a small rotating hologram of the domed area hovered above the screen.

"Didn't do a subterranean scan or anything yet, but we can use that as we go. This is a prototype for my new app after all. I call it Gold Digger!"

Dismissing the holographic map, the Mauvian looked up to his companion.

"So I'd say straight into the unknown! Never know what we'll find. Though before we leave I'd like to take a few samples from up here when we're done. Tit for tat, yadda yadda. Let's go! In return, I'll give you all the scan data. Even the app if you want. It has other features that I'll show you in a bit."

Whatever Pendour might have been thinking about her head being called pretty and little disappeared when his device whirred to life. She stared, jaw going just a little slack at the fact that her wonder, from the spires on the stage to the little garden, was all floating a few inches from her face in holographic miniature. “Well, that one’s impressive,” she said, and there was awe in her tone. She was not just being polite. “My ancestor mentioned a basement, but I don’t know if you’ll find anything else subterranean. Not on Neptune. There’s a lot of empty water.”

Although, as she glanced towards the edge of the glass dome, she realized she’d never actually tried to see what was underneath.

She led the way towards the main feature of her wonder. When they got closer, it became clear that the columns and arches curved around a deep basin and held up a second story. There were aqueducts up there, and channels where waterfalls might have fallen down, once, but now it was dry as dry. “We have to go through a little of the known, first,” she said. “This is the cove.”

There was a path around the edge of the basin, underneath the arches, and that was where she headed. “I was thinking we could look around the basement, actually. I haven’t been. The entrance is in the knight’s chamber.” It wasn’t her chamber, not with Irving here. She pressed her lips together at the thought of him. “My ancestor might be there,” she said, almost too quietly. “Have you ever seen a ghost, Orias?”

Orias basked in the glow of Pendour's praise. It was like a legal drug with no side effects. There was definitely withdrawal, though. Pretty heavy thoughts. Either way, he was pleased.

Shaking his head to clear his random philosophical musings, the Mauvian meandered along behind the Neptunian aspirant as she led the way deeper into the garden. Impressive pillars held up stone tracks that seemed to lead into a giant dip of a bowl below, but both the aqueducts and the "pool" were dry as a desert. One could fry an egg on them were the sun able to reach this depth. Tilting far back to look at the structures above, Orias whistled.

"Makes me wish I knew how to skateboard or ride a BMX bike," he murmured. "This place would make a wicked skate park."

He tuned back in to what Pendour was waxing on about, something with basements and some chamber. And GHOSTS?! Now she had his full attention.

"So wait, we're talking real ghosts right? Spooky balls of ectoplasm that float around doing ghost stuff? Like Ghostbusters? Not just some weird Neptune flower that wiggles around on its own or something and it's just been decided that this is the spirit of your long-lost great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandpappy reaching out to you through a subtle means that only you would understand?"

He pranced from paw to paw.

"I would love to see a real ghost. Bill Murray eat your heart out."

The cat's expression sobered quickly.

"You'd better not be lying, Sparkles. Or I'm totally cooking bacon in your spiritual water bowl."

As vague and metaphorically nonsensical as the threat sounded, it was rather literal. He had a vacuum-sealed pack of bacon in his subspace.

Orias's excitement wasn't quite expected, and Pendour actually cracked a smile as she nodded.

"Well, he doesn't float, but he is a bit see-through," she said, her voice ticking up at the end as if she was asking a question. She'd never actually stopped to consider what Irving's ghost abilities might be. She was always more concerned about the lectures. As she glanced down at the Mauvian, she wondered if Irving would have any snide comments about her newest guest. It was likely, but at least Orias could probably think of some retort. She didn't mention Irving, himself, yet, though. All she said was, "Don't worry. You won't need one of those ghost-hunting machines just to know he's there."

Not that she be would be all that surprised if he pulled out another gadget of some sort, with all of the gears she'd seen spilling out of his space pocket earlier. She had a feeling the bacon threat might be a serious one, as well, and she narrowed her eyes at that before glancing back down to the cove below.

The shallow end of the cove had been mostly pristine, if dry, but as they got further back, too deep to easily swim to, the basin dipped deeper, and there were shapes scattered across the bottom. Most of it was dusty, dried up coral and pieces of nearby decorations that had broken off and dropped in over time. At the very back was one sign of life. Stringy algae grew from where the rear, central waterfall should be, and some of it had dripped down below.

However, at a second glance, a disturbing amount of the rubble was actually human bones. A skull stared up at Pendour, and she turned away quickly. She wasn't here to dwell on that, not today.

"I don't mind if you try cooking," she said, "But maybe I should clean a bit, first?" Maybe they could go upstairs, where the houses were, and look for a way to cook there, but that would defeat the purpose a little of delving deeper.

When the reached the back of the cove, behind the overgrown waterfall, there was a door in the stone wall that edged the other side of the path.. There had been a few others on the way around, but this one was framed with filigree and pearls. Pendour had not been here since her very first trip to her wonder, despite the chamber beyond technically being hers. Even now, she knocked gently on the doorframe. "Irving?"

Her ancestor emerged almost too quickly. He was a little see though, it was true, but otherwise he didn't look so different from any other knight. His eyes were the same shade as Pendour's good one, but his hair was dark as dark. He wore a doublet decorated with mermaid scales.

"Sarandon," he said, and his voice was smooth but not soft, especially as he turned to her guest with a slight quirk to the eyebrow. "And who have you brought this time?"

"Who knew Neptunians were so macabre?" Orias intoned conversationally as they walked, following Pendour's gaze and peering down into the bowl. "With how everything looked when we first got here, I assumed it'd be all pearls and engraved stone and Atlantis dealies. Waterboys were more metal than I thought!"

The humanoid remains obviously hadn't escaped his purview, but that was to be expected. So far as the Mauvian knew, senshi planets were currently devoid of almost all life. The purge had been pretty thorough after all. He decided to focus on the fact that their target specter didn't float, opting to ignore the fact that the knight-in-training had offered to help with his cooking threat. Next she'd be telling him she was a pacifist...

"So... real ghost then. No floating, but see-through. Oooo, is he a walking skeleton? Maybe with armor? Skeleknight? That'd be pretty cool. I hear these guys are like your ancestors or something. Do you take after him?"

Then again, if this woman had her way she'd probably come back as a rainbow or a flower rather than a ghost. It was sort of a nice thought in its own way. Orias did happen to like rainbows. Who didn't? These musings kept the feline occupied all along the path behind the waterfall until they stopped at an impressively embellished doorway. He let out a long whistle.

"Now that's a fancy entryway," he commented while Pendour knocked. "Are those real pearls?"

Orias was tapping a claw against one of the larger gleaming gemstones when the occupant answered his summons and appeared. He was quite the fancypants, though he seemed quite a bit more serious than his descendent.

"What's a Sarandon?" Orias puzzled, peering up curiously at the page and twitching his whiskers. "That's a Pendour, according to herself. And I guess you're an Irving. I was hoping for something... I dunno, more ghoulish. You just look like a noble that the universe spilled some of its white out onto. But as for me."

The Maine Coon struck a heroic pose, tip of his little kitty nose raised skyward.

"I'm Orias, and I just so happen to be the greatest Mauvian you'll ever have the pleasure of meeting."
