Queen's Wing! Only those with riders assigned to the Queen's Wing may join in this thread! The Queen's wing doesn't change altitude, and is the last defense before Thread hits the people, crops, animals, and life below. Golds are expected to fly full Threadfall, though greens, blue, whites will come and go depending upon their assigned 'wave'.
Queens may need to make a saving catch in another Wing should a dragon fall from the sky. You may roll your save here, as a queen would not be expected to fly high up to catch.
This is a Threadfighting Forum, which means that if your character returns to the Weyr due to injury, is still waiting to join the fray, or their wave is up, or wants pre- or post-Threadfall fighting conversation and role-play, you will need to do it in The Bowl subforum!
All RP here is for those who are high up in the sky fighting Thread! Please note, some characters are listed here as they would be expected to fight even if they are designated in another Flight or another Wing. Consolidation happened purely so OOCly we can all have a good time.
For those demoted weyrlings, given there are no active/PC weyrlings, they have been assigned to fight in the Queen's Wing. They may roll from the Queen's Wing Grid but likely will be expected to help make firestone deliveries.

98-100. Another gust wind blows, sending some silvery strands of Thread your way! Your dragon manages to twist their way through it with surprising and relative ease, and you're able to even flame down some of the fray! [+1 Agility // +1 Target Accuracy]
The wind in the bowl of High Reaches had been deceiving. Of course they'd flown o a new location and the surrounds changed the situation, but Niobet had expected that this first hour of the fight, at least, would be a little less challenging.
She managed. They managed, more because of Aedeth's grace than anything she was doing with the flamethrower she held. Still, they managed to destroy a length of Thread, and that counted. It all counted, even if they were far from finished today.

Though the winds were hard, and Mereketh had to work at least twice as hard as the Queens in the sky around him, he did it, putting his head down against the wind and tipping his wings just the right amount that he wouldn't be thrown away from his target. H'sau's jaw already ached from clenching his teeth so hard, but it was worth it when the clump of Thread before them puffed out of existence as nothing more than scattered ash.

And just as easily as success had come, Thread demonstrated it's most wicked ability and came to take revenge on the pair that had gotten far too casually confident in their ability.
It was a sudden sidelong gust of wind that surprised Niobet and Aedeth alike, tossing a wide, wet mass of Thread at them quickly. Aedeth turned so she would present her side, so Niobet would have the best shot at burning the stuff before it reached them, but hen she pulled the trigger, there was no answering gout of flame. Eyes widening, Niobet swiped at the nozzle of the cannister to try and clear it, but to no avail. The command to blink away was almost formed when the the Thread found it's mark, sticking and burning into woman and dragon both.
They were gone. Away from it. One. Two. Three.
When the re-emerged, Niobet crumpled forward, knotting a free hand's fingers in the straps as pain came with nausea and tears blurred her eyes. Aedeth bugled with pain of her own, dark lines of scoring evident in her hide. No, Niobet thought, sucking breath through her teeth. Not like this. Not today! Turn around, she commanded the dragon, who executed a wide, slow turn. Niobet would be damned if she was done already.

It was a quick movement, a sharp dive, taking advantage of a break in the buffeting from wind they'd been taking. It was important. After all, if the wind wasn't tossing them around, it meant that Thread could reach the ground too, and that couldn't be allowed.
So Mereketh dove and spat flame and the clump of Thread evaporated, as it should. Triumph rocketed through the dragon and though he was outwardly silent, H'sau grinned and thumped the dragon's shoulder fondly. That's it. Just like that. Well done.

It hurt. Great Faranth but it hurt. From rider to dragon and back again, nerves were blazing and the two of them passed the sensations back and forth between one another in an attempt to share the feeling, to manage the pain, to focus and fight and keep flying because it was their duty and they could not, *would* not give up.
And that stubbornness that had both caused and seen them through so much trouble paid off as they spotted and burned through another clump of wicked Thread. Not as large, not as unexpected as the one that had hit them, but it helped. It felt like revenge. On to the next.
93-97. Your dragon is starting to feel tired. This particular fight is wearing them down. A strong gust of winds tries to throw them out of their position. Roll a D4 to see what happens!

Of course there was a price to pay for congratulating themselves. So what if no one else was likely to do it. The updraft caught Mereketh's wing and tipped him forcefully to the left, leaving the dragon struggling to right himself and H'sau clinging hard to the straps so his added weight wouldn't make the struggle harder.
We'll be down soon, H'sau promised, giving Mereketh another encouraging pat when the wind had settled again. We'll be down and we'll have a good rest. Both of us.
Resting wasn't ordinarily their thing, but H'sau's shoulder ached with a pulse that matched the throb in Mereketh's wing. A rest would be necessary.

One last thing. They could o one last thing, because it had to be done. The pain they felt was great but they couldn't let another wingmate suffer the same fate.
It was Niobet's insistance that they stay that meant they were there when another rider missed the incoming threat. It was Niobet's hoarse voice that rang out to warn the pair, that alerted them to trouble and gave them time to move.
And then Aedeth overrode her rider's wishes, and they were gone, blinking into the blessed chill of Between and back home.

Mictecath’s mind was now drawn into the moment, thanks to Nyara. In fact, the day was warm and almost… pleasant, were it not for the routine of life-and-death which faced them all. She raised her flamethrower and seared an errant clump of Thread, watching it burn to ash. Her whoop of delight turned to a frantic ahhh as Mictecath all but twisted in mid-air, performing a feat of acrobatics of which many of her smaller kin.
A bag of firestone tumbled past her head, and Nyara glared up at the sky. Shards, that had almost landed on her head.

Mic’s scream echoed her own- but the dragon was quicker, taking them Between, where the blissful, dead cold numbed the fire. The human blinked as sunlight emerged, and Mictecath fell back into position once more.
I’m fine, are you?
The Thread has left a graze across my side… but we are fine. We must continue.
Nyara did not argue with her, instead refocusing her attention. If she hadn’t slipped… maybe she might have seen that one coming.

I see it! The Queen dove with a surprising amount of agility. Nyara tried to aim, but her shoulder was sore from Thread’s earlier bite, and her aim was off.
Oh no… no… She watched as the silver clump fell from view. They couldn’t chase it all the way to the ground- that was stupid… foolishness at its most evil, for what if a wingrider fell and Mictecath’s position was the one to catch them…

Nyaranau gave herself a little bit of a mental shake, re-centering her thoughts on the present moment. As Mictecath swerved neatly towards a stray clump, Nya flamed it without hesitation, exhaling as it burnt up and flittered away as dust.
That’s better…
Mictecath did not roar, but there was a warm appreciation in her mind.
