It was a nice day, especially for summer in Destiny City--not too humid, nor too hot, and it wasn't storming, which was all good, because when Malachi set up to play his violin for some tips, he wanted to be able to actually play.

It was a nice spot he'd found, and he'd been out for a while, with more than a few dollars in tips in his case. People were generous today, or maybe there were just enough people out that the numbers added up, but it was a pretty good day, and he would be able to upload the video to YouTube later, with a little editing.

All in all, a pretty good time, in Mal's opinion.

Why the peculiar feline had chosen to wander towards Destiny City remained a mystery, but once she'd awoken, she'd felt herself being called towards the city. Suffice to say that her memory was hazy at best and her inability to recall smaller details was a touch more frustrating than she cared to admit on occasions, but she had still followed her instincts and journeyed to this rather expansive city.

She'd find out why eventually, right? That was generally how these things seemed to work for everyone and she didn't think she was excluded from these things.

There was one thing she'd noticed though, as she'd entered the city there was a distinct lack of something in it. Pazzaz, a little va-va-voom maybe? It was something she'd taken to pondering as she wandered the streets in search of inspiration, and to a certain extent, clarity.

It was for this reason that she now found herself wandering down this particular street, largely oblivious to the crowds. She heard the music, ears flicking appreciatively, but she hadn't thought much of it until she had drawn near him. As she walked passed the violinist she was struck with a distinct sense of something. She hadn't been able to put her paw on what it was for several seconds and then it had dawned on her, the violinist had something in him that she was impressed had been left this long.

Curiosity piqued, the cat very pointedly moved round to the front of him and took a seat, staring up at him expectantly as he played. With some passersby still wandering along the walkway it wasn't smart to speak just yet, but she certainly would in a few moments when there was a gap!

Amazonite loved crowds. Mostly, she loved crowds because it was deeply entertaining to unleash a youma on them and watch all the chaos that would ensue. She'd brought a charming one with her, a beast that was a hybrid of dog and dragon, the size of a great wolf with leathery wings and dripping fangs. Its black fur was coarse under her grip, and its muscular body strained against her hold, bright crimson eyes blazing and furred lizard-claws scratching against the ground.

She bent, and leaned into its ear.

"Go," she said, releasing the beast, and it yowled, launching into the crowd around the pretty violinist. Now, it was time to have some real fun.

Of all the things to end his performance, Malachi hadn't expected it to be some kind of monster attack. He wasn't sure how he managed the clarity to shove his violin back in its case and swing it over his shoulder, except that the creature was advancing on other people and not headed straight for him, and the violin was expensive and precious, the result of years of saving.

He started to stagger backwards, because....well, because there was nothing he could do. This was a real monster, slavering and snarling, and he was just a person, a willowy, skinny boy with a violin and nothing else.

And then there was the woman, who waltzed into the fleeing crowd with no fear.

And right in front of his eyes, she reached--

she reached into someone's chest, and the man screame din agony, and she pulled her hand out. In it was a tiny, sparkling gem, and the man collapsed in a heap.

Malachi remembered the prayers his mother had taught him, the ones to her kami, and started reciting him in his head as he bounded over a hedge and ducked behind it, heart pounding with fear.

On any other given day Namielle would have considered the sudden dispersal of the crowd to be fortuitous. However, as the alarmed cries sprung up around her and the 'flood' of chaos hit her sense, the feline could do nothing more than look around in alarm towards the impending madness. All around her civilians had begun to run, fleeing from an advancing monster that they were highly unlikely to be able to survive against on their own.

"Oh, oh dear..." Her remark was neither helpful or insightful. A little loss for words the Mauvian had a brief moment of uncertainty before gut instinct finally kicked in and she spun back round to observe Malachi - an individual who looked very keen to run away right now.

It wouldn't have been a bad idea.

"You," she stated and raised a paw towards him. "Follow me, we need to get you out of sight for a moment," she instructed. Tone surprisingly confident for someone who was in a mild state of panic, the Ragdoll leapt from her spot and scurried into the alleyway nearby. It was a rather small one with scarcely enough room to slot the garbage cans in to, but it would serve the purpose she needed it to... And more importantly, he'd be able to hide his stuff here without anyone taking it if he needed to.

"Hurry, we don't have much time!" She added.

Suffice to say that Namielle would deal with the explanations regarding talking animals later. Right now she needed to do her duty and given she was now certain that this young man was what she thought he was, she would have preferred not to waste anymore time. Strange how in the most dangerous moments the light shone the brightest; she'd had her suspicions before, but now she was certain - Malachi was a senshi, even if he had flown under the radar for far longer than he should have.

Of all the things Malachi reasonably expected to happen, having a cat point her paw at him and start talking was not...on the list...at all. His heart was still racing, and adrenaline pumped thorough his veins, as the monster sniffed the air and turned towards where he was. That was enough to get him moving, especially when, well. The talking cat seemed to be the only one that had any idea what it was doing right then.

"Alright," he said, and he stood, and followed the talking cat into the alley, which was a thing Malachi had never imagined doing under basically any circumstances. Still, there was an actual monster about, and Malachi didn't feel as if there was much reason to hesitate. So he pressed up against the wall, and looked down at the cat.

"Is there uh, a quick way you can answer the questions 'what's going on' and 'why do I need to follow you, specifically'?" He got that they didn't have a ton of time, that was obvious--the madwoman and her monster might realize where they'd gone at any moment--but he hoped for at least a little clarity, since he was playing along and following her.

The youma made for a lovely distraction, Amazonite found; it raced through the crowd thoughtlessly, barrelling into people and slurping down energy with abandon. She glanced ovedr in time to see it turn and head for where the violinist had been; he was go0ne now, but that wasn't really Amazonite's problem. She had a whole crowd of terrified, panicky civilians, which meant an absolute feast of energy to drain and potentially starseeds to pull.

Infinite resources were always lovely.

"Right, yes, so..." Namielle already had her paws firmly stuck in what looked like nothing in the air. She seemed to be partially missing as she rummaged about for whatever it was she was looking for. She normally worked well in a crisis, but on this occasion she seemed a touch flustered. It was safe to say that she was a little out of practice when it came to the more nuanced aspects of her job and all things considered... She probably would have picked a better scenario if she'd been given a chance.

"Hi my name is Namielle and I'm a Mauvian," there was a small c***k as what appeared to be an oddly shaped pen cast out onto the ground, an odd planetary symbol on the top. "And our job in the grand scheme of things is to find people like you..."

Another c***k, a clatter, and a rather old looking phone fell out to sit beside it.

"And guide you to greatness," she pulled herself back out of the 'nothing' and swept the little pen into her paws. "Well sort of, to put it plainly you're a very special man with a very unique set of abilities and right now they may very well stand between you and death," she flicked the pen towards him and smiled. "And honestly you might stand between me and death so it would be lovely if you could find it in your heart to say..."

She took a breath.

"Alkmene, Power Make-Up!" she ordered and waved at him.

"Then we'll see how this goes and if we're still standing afterwards then I'll give you a much more useful introduction to who you are, who I am, why I'm here, why you're here and what our general day to day will be now that you're a superhero."

"Sound good?"

She'd hand him the 'nokia' later, it would survive on the ground for a little longer...

Malachi blinked, watching the cat rummage through empty air, nodding slowly.

"Uh, I'm Malachi," he said, not that he felt as if it was the most important thing right now. Everything was happening quite a lot, and he could still hear that monster rampaging nearby, which made his heart clench in his chest. It was a little hard to believe what she was saying--people like him? Guide him to greatness? Malachi was pretty sure that there wasn't any greatness in him, but maybe...maybe he was wrong. At least, someone seemed to think there might be, and that was a step in the right direction.

He caught the pen when she flicked it at him and nodded, firmly.

"I still don't really understand what's going on, but both of us not dying sounds fantastic," he said, and he gripped the pen. "Alkmene Power, Make Up!"

It was magic. That was the only description for the power he felt surging through him. A swirl of green magic later, and there was a newly minted Senshi standing in front of Namielle.

"Okay, so. Step two: fight crazy lady and monster, right?"

It seemed like the only reasonable possibility. So without waiting for further instruction, he ducked out from the alley, in time to meet the dragon-wolf-thing as it lunged at him. He was surprised to find the power in his body to catch it and hurl it, back towards the woman who had to be its master.

It was a bright little ping on her senses, the emergence of an Order aura.

"Goddamnit," Amazonite sighed, whirling around from the civilian whose energy she'd been draining and letting his unconscious body fall to the ground. There was the heavy thump of her youma hitting the ground, and it made a distressed noise, and she put a hand on her hips, looking at the Senshi as he strode up to her. "Well, look at you, all confident. What do you think you're gonna do against me, kiddo? don't you know you're outmatched?"

Oh my god he was already out in the street again! Namielle would have despaired, but to be fair, that was kind of what she had expected him to do now that he could use magic. Nevertheless it wasn't as if she'd told him he could use magic, though she did note that he'd discovered he was reasonably strong now as the youma was thrust back towards the chaotic woman who had summoned it.

"Don't under estimate a man in a fabulous hat," Namielle chirped as she leapt onto a nearby table and wrinkled her nose. "You think I can't zap at your pet?" she added and gave a wave of her paw. Granted her 'zap' was going to do very little in the grand scheme of things but it would at least keep the agent's companion distracted while Alkmene dealt with her, right?

"Can zap you for good measure," she added and then murmured under her breath to the newly awakened senshi. "By the way you can use magic if you just wanna... let your instincts guide you," she advised. "It'll come to you and then pop, you'll nail her with somethin' useful!"

...Hopefully.

Alkmene could also have entirely supportive powers that healed or something but her own gut told her that wasn't the case. All being well it would do something useful for them both. Alas, the Mauvian hadn't remembered to factor in the senshi's age and if he had the same horrendous timing as Athalia had once had then anything could happen (her subconscious would hope for the best though)!

Amazonite looked between the two of them, and she was glad her mask hid her frown. The Senshi had unknown powers, and she wasn't one to underestimate the efficiency of a cat--Chaos's cats were far too clever for her to underestimate Order's.

Still, she wasn't going to back down--she was a Captain of the Negaverse, one upstart Senshi and a cat weren't going to make her turn tail and run. So she called her weapons to hand, twirling one of her knives around a finger.

"Fine, since both of you want to dance so badly, let's dance," she said, voice light and bright.

Alkmene swallowed, watching the sun glint off those deadly sharp knives in the woman's hand, but he straightened his back, gave her a cold glare, and gave Namielle a nod. Magic. He could do magic. This was all brand new and confusing to him, but something told him not to target the monster--it wouldn't help him with that.

It felt strange, to point at the woman with her deadly weapons who was slowly prowling towards him, looking at him like he was a piece of prey and she was a very, very hungry lion.

"Envious Whisper!" He called, and he watched a burst of green sparkles flare around her, and at first he was underwhelmed--sparkles, really? Was that it?

And then the knives vanished from her hands, and she screeched to a halt.

"You....!" Amazonite gasped, angrily. "What did you do?" She demanded. She tried to call her weapons back, but--nothing. There was some kind of static wall preventing her from reaching out to grab them, and it was definitely that Senshi's doing.

"Hahaha! That's awesome!" Namielle declared as Alkmene's magic removed something the agent was particularly reliant upon. A delighted smile on her lips, she deliberately bounded forward and zapped at the knives with her own laser to push them slightly further out of reach. She had heard that they had to call them back, so if she could at least force them to go further out of the way then maybe she'd be able to use less of her own abilities.

...Wasn't that what Regula had said that one time? She really should have listened better.

Nevertheless, having successfully shooed the knife away just a little further, she twirled round and shot another of her little beams towards the Captain (whether it would hit though was another matter entirely, she hadn't really practiced with it lately). Alkmene was new, but this Agent was also not a child and while she didn't have her weapons to hand now that didn't mean she wouldn't have them soon. They needed to take advantage of that while it was still there.

"Don't let up though, you gotta make sure she stays down!" Namielle chimed. "We have to get her to leave or else she'll get just hurt more people, quickly!"

Namielle didn't have to tell Alkmene twice. He wasn't exactly particularly tough--"concert violinist" wasn't a job with a lot of physical demands--but he was small, and an easy victim, and he had learned to fight back. So he knew where to punch for maximum effect, even on a woman who looked a lot physically stronger than he was.

He swung his fist, and slammed it into her solar plexus as hard as he could.

Amazonite was still struggling, trying to call her magic back, when she was hit by a solid double-whammy; the cat's laser lit up her leg and the Senshi;s fist sank into her solar plexus. She gasped in pain, and doubled over, staggering back.

Se looked between the two of them, and grinned, in a way that reached her eyes and lit them a bit mad, even if the actual smile was hidden behind her mask.

"I'll remember you two," she said, voice airy, and you'll regret this someday."

With that, she disappeared.

Alkmene stared at the place where the officer was, and his eyes went slightly wide, with surprise and confusion.

"What...just happened? "He asked, tentatively. At least things were cleared out and the woman was gone and no longer actively menacing everyone around her.

This was still confusing as hell, though.

"Well in a very anti-climatic way...we won," Namielle wrinkled her nose. Sure she knew you couldn't always expect fireworks but the Negaverse agent had essentially disappeared like a scooby-doo villain. Oh, the Mauvian knew that the threat was genuine but at the same time it was all a little 'bleh'. Still, she should be grateful for the fact the new senshi hadn't been injured in the process as it was rare that a newly awoken senshi could beat anything more powerful than them to begin with.

...They'd been lucky.

"But I guess you're owed the whole explanation now huh?" she sighed and glanced briefly towards the dispersed crowd, her ears flicking slightly towards the sound of distant sirens. "Well, we'll start with the easier stuff and then move on to the hard stuff later if you're still up for it but um.."

"You know how there's a terrorism group in the city that really likes to cause damage and all that jazz?" she started. "Well that's us technically," she raised both eyebrows and padded back towards him. "Except that's all a wonderful lie and actually we spend most of our time fighting people like her," she explained after a moment. "...And the folks like her really do like to hurt people, suck the life out of them and kill them for want of a better word," she continued.

"Well actually no that's exactly what happens if they rip out their little starseed they're dead forever, and they'll never come back either because if you destroy those things the very essence of a person is gone and can never come back," she pursed her lips thoughtfully.

"Anyway...this fight has been going on for a while now," she waved a paw and smiled. "But in order to defend this world and win that fight we need folks like you, because millennia ago when there was more magic in the universe, people like you were chosen by your planets to protect them and it gave you... what you can do now," she smiled.

"Basically; super powers."

She paused, albeit briefly.

"I get that nowadays people don't really sign up for fights, wars or drama, but if I'd left you as you were then she would have hurt far more people, she may have hurt you...or worse she may have forced you to become one of her kind," she explained. "I can't really force you to step up and do more than you already have but at least now you have the power to decide?"

"There's more nuances and everyone has their own opinions on it but in the end the most simplistic way to explain it is that you're a soldier in a war that just keeps going, and one of the very few people capable of taking their kind on safely."

Another pause.

"OH! But... " her paws disappeared into nothing and she soon pulled out a rather aged looking phone. If he was in to vintage goods then it may have reminded him of a nokia. "This is yours, it responds only to you," she held it up to him. "And it has a few apps on it already like a little database for important stuff and a little messenger app to hit people up... If you take someone's picture then they'll go in to your contact list."

"...And if you don't like the old looking version I can always update it but I've got a handful of folks who dig the older vibe, so just let me know."

"We won," Alkmene agreed, and he moved to lean back against a nearby low wall, used to help demarcate the edges of the fancy little square. This was all...so much, and he wasn't even sure how to process everything that had just happened. And sure, it was a victory--but there were people on the ground, still, and Alkmene wasn't sure if they were unconscious or dead.

Still, Namielle was offering an explanation.

"Lay it on me," he said, and Alkmene listened, and absorbed. Better not to interrupt, when he'd asked the question, and he was getting a very thorough answer, and in fact answers to questions he hadn't even realized he had.

If this was the easy stuff, Alkmene wasn't sure he wanted to know what the hard stuff was. Obviously, magic was objectively real, and of course there were people who would use it for good and for ill.

"I think I'm following?" He said, and his eyes drifted over--to where he'd seen the woman put her hand in someone's chest. Indeed, the man he'd seen her attack was lying slumped against a bench, still, and Alkmene winced. "So, she...and people like her...they can just. Kill. On a whim."

How awful. How disgusting.

How much power to hold in your hand.

"I guess this was bound to happen eventually, right? If not today, later," he said, and he gave a wan little smile. "So...thanks. For saving me, when I could have ended up...in a really bad way."

To say the least.

He took the phone, turning it over in his hands.

"Not too much work to upgrade it? I can get by with this fine, but I'd love the more modern version." He didn't want to sound too pushy, but an old flip phone...well, it really took him back, and Mal wasn't sure he wanted to go that far into his childhood. "I'll be sure to keep it close. Sounds important. That, and that pen you gave me earlier. Tools of the superhero trade, I guess?"

Epine de Rose
PostPosted: Sat Mar 20, 2021 7:18 am

"Awesome as it would be to be able to transform without them, unfortunately the pen is super important," she confirmed and picked up his phone in her paws. Through a combination of magic and mauvian 'technical genius', what had once been a brick soon became a much sleeker looking smart phone. She much preferred this one anyway, when it came to tech vintage was cute but not at all practical in her books.

"Luckily they don't work for anyone else, but you'll get yourself in a bit of trouble if you misplace it," still sat on her hindlegs, she held the phone up towards him with a wry smile. "On the plus side the phone does work when you're not in your superhero tights," she continued. "So if things to go wrong for you and you still need some help there's always a way to call for it," she finished.

She'd prefer no one was in that spot, but if they were...

Actually, while she was here.

A quick flip of the phone round to face her and she snapped a 'selfie' on her fabulously feline form before returning it back to its position. She'd be his first contact, but she'd best not be his last. He'd need a friend or six, she was just starting him off!

"You're welcome for the helping paw though, even if you did the heavy lifting I'm just grateful that I was there to make sure it could be stopped," she shook her head. "Just be careful next time and try to get some back up for that one if she shows up again, if she's got one of those things it's definitely a gamble to take her on solo right now, ok?"

Alkmene nodded, watching with interest as she transformed the phone into a much more modern version. Probably, it was nicer than the one in his pocket as Malachi, since that one was several generations out of date and updating it was just not on his to-do list when it worked just fine for what he needed it for.

"I'll make sure to keep a close eye on them," he said, "and try and keep myself out of trouble that's too big for me to handle." Which he was sure there would be a lot of. He wasn't exactly imposing or powerful, even in this new form.

He took the phone when she offered it, with her added to his contacts, and gave a very serious nod and a frown.

"I'm just glad that she was intimidated off by having her fancy knives taken away. Are all of them like that? Armed up? Because that seems a little unfair."
