It hadn't been a madness that have overtaken him, so much as a sense of acceptance as he'd gazed into the eyes of the now prone form. It had been an action taken out of necessity in the face of one who showed neither compassion or remorse for their actions. He hadn't thought he'd possess the ability to make that choice, but when the chips had been down he had done what he deemed appropriate.

If he had let this one walk, there would be more than just injured and prone at his feet. The next time they stumbled upon one another it would have been a bloodbath. There had been a hunger in his eyes, cold and unwavering, the pain and distress he had caused to those that lay around him had been lost on him. Even as they'd crossed paths there had been in a hunger in those eyes for him.

It had been to the now dead senshi's misfortune that on this occasion Athalia's magic had what was necessary, and what had come after could be described as nothing more than an onslaught. Evidently when Athalia allowed himself to unleash he was a lot more powerful than he realised. There was a strength within senshi bodies that he had underestimated and the now battered body at his feet was evident of that.

...At the very least, he'd had the decency to snap his neck when there had finally been an opening.

It wasn't as clean as he would have preferred, but even as he looked over the scene the remorse he should have felt himself simply wasn't there. It might catch up with him later, but with the adrenaline still coursing through his body he could only ascertain that on this occasion he had made the right choice.

Sometimes, there were those who just couldn't be saved.

This one had been one of them.

With his lips pursed he had set about at least administering to the fallen, moving into the more sheltered regions of the alley and the abandoned warehouse they had been using as shelter. At least they would wake up somewhere familiar when their energy had returned.

Suffice to say that at this particular moment in time he hadn't considered how to deal with the fallen senshi. How did one explain a body that looked like this? Perhaps it was best not to, but as he cleaned up after the senshi's mess and the destruction he had rought in return, he would have plenty of time to determine what the best course of action in these circumstances might be.

He hadn't been anticipating any further visitors this evening, but one never knew, and in this world there were those who seemed to have truly impeccable timing...

It wasn't luck that sent Sylvite on the senshi's heels.

No. Every officer had a communicator pen, and there was a button on the side of it that was in easy reach, even when you were getting pummeled. Sylvite felt her own pen buzz, and when she opened it up into its tablet form, all she heard was a cough and then what she could only guess was the sound of someone getting punched in the face. A GPS map opened on her screen after that, and Sylvite took a little time to make out the little roads and names before teleported from her quiet night in the park to the street where that little flashing light was.

She was expecting to come face to face with a fight. Instead she found herself in an empty complex. All she could hear was the buzzing of streetlights. All she could feel was the aura of a basic senshi in the distance. She checked her map again. This was the right spot. She could see the little light right next to her now. Something went cold in her stomach, and she started after the aura.

It took about five steps before she found the body. The Information officer in her noticed the way his neck was at a ninety degree angle and that he wasn't breathing. People didn't just fall over in the middle of the street like this. Someone had done this to him.

The teenager in her just tried not to throw up. She'd seen people die at a distance, back in that battle in the Negaverse citadel, but it hadn't been like this. She'd been to a few funerals, too, but she'd never seen someone tossed into a heap with broken bones and empty eyes. The audio clip played over and over again in her mind.

She swallowed, and the cold thing in her stomach started getting hotter.

Then she followed the aura again, and when she rounded a corner of the warehouse and saw who it was, she froze.

"Of course it's you," she said through gritted teeth. "Mister 'really likes to kill things.'" There was no humor in her voice. It was weirdly flat and cold, and this time she didn't perk back up after a couple seconds. "And if you try to tell me he deserved it-" she began, then stopped and shook her head. "No. Even if you don't. I've already given you way to many chances."

There was the subtle sound of metal slicing air as she summoned her knives to her hands.

Athalia's expression remained largely unreadable; even as he turned to regard the recognisable figure. Sylvite already had her opinions of him, whether some actions had been taken in self defence would have been irrelevant to her, but on this particular occasion she had been quite right... he hadn't been forced to take this particular one out, he'd made the decision to do so.

Did he deserve it? Based on the evidence presented and the overall demeanour of the senshi, he did. If someone had no remorse, no compassion and sought pleasure in causing pain to the vulnerable then it was his duty to stop it. Sylvite would always have a disagreement in terms of who deserved what, but he wouldn't have expected anyone in this particular cult to be aware of the damage they did.

...They tried to justify it, he simply didn't buy it.

"It would be advisable for you to leave, Sylvite," he replied, even as her knives flashed in to her hands. He would have much preferred not to get in yet another fight this evening, but it seemed unlikely at this stage. "Your companion will need to be tended to unless you would prefer his identity is exposed to me instead," he pointed out calmly.

Ah yes, should a senshi fall in battle then eventually their form shifted back into its un-powered state and at that stage, he'd be no more than a nameless face until other records in the city could identify him.

Not that Athalia actually had a plan in regards to what to do with the body, but he certainly wouldn't leave it here where those the senshi had attacked could be held liable for his demise.

He hadn't made a move to defend himself yet, but even with his expression otherwise neutral, it was clear he was watching the smaller woman closely...

There was a moment of silence, or watching, even with the knives out. Sylvite's face was oddly blank, too. No matter how much you told yourself that you were a soldier, it didn't prepare you for seeing someone crumpled up on the asphalt.

Athalia's eyes were cold. He didn't even care, she realized. She'd probably be next up on his list, but that was okay. He looked drawn. Hopefully he was tired, and he might have burned out his magic. Even if he hadn't, even if he was at his best, he was weak compared to her.

She had every advantage here. No more reports. No more biding her time.

She shook her head, slowly. "No. I don't think I'm gonna leave," she said, just the slightest hint of that defiant smirk peeking through. It faded quickly, though. "Identities don't matter when you're dead!"

It turned out that even with all the magic in the world, that one was still final.

The anger might have crept into her voice, but her movements were the results of years of training, not rage. She was all soldier. She crossed the distance between them quickly but not too quickly, and she swiped out with a knife, aiming low. She didn't need him running.

"No matter who they may be, the deceased are always entitled to a measure of respect," Athalia replied coolly. He certainly had no love for the fallen senshi, but he had been released from his corruption. No longer a threat there was no need to treat him with derision and this was something he had settled on at the beginning. Though he didn't quite know how or where one might pay their respects to this fallen soul just yet, that didn't mean that it wasn't under consideration.

...Sylvite's appearance had simply thrown a spanner into the works.

Nevertheless, Sylvite's normally conversational and inquisitive disposition had vanished. He had caused considerable offence, unsurprising in the given circumstances, and she was now moving towards him at speed. While not overly concerned at this particular moment in time he was well aware he would need to be careful. Her signature was stronger than his and as such, she outranked him... But when the chips were down he could hedge his bets and see how everything fell into place.

He knew better than to catch that knife at its current angle, it would cause far too much damage to his hands and he wasn't in the position to sacrifice a limb so early. Thus, despite having exerted himself to a degree in his previous encounter, he did manage to muster up the necessary willpower to demand that his source answer him.

"Herculean Shield!" he roared, shimmering scarab carapaces rippling in to distance. While present, their otherwise mirage-like form were a clear indication (at least to him) that they wouldn't stay up for long, but it would at least be enough to stop her initial attack.

If they fell after that, then at least she'd be close enough for him to stand a reasonable chance of capturing wrists or deflecting hands without her achieving too much momentum.

...Or that was the theory anyway.

His shield will smash in a single blow for this one just to give you a heads up, she won't need to hit it more than once!

Herculean Shield
    Sailor Scout Attack: Herculean Shield
Radius: Self (Personal Buff, 180 Radial)
      Duration: 25 Seconds
Limitations: This shield can be hard to break for other basic stage characters, moderately breakable by 2nd stage characters and easily breakable by 3rd stage characters. This shield will fall much more quickly in a concentrated attack by numerous opponents regardless of their rank.
Number of Casts: 3 Times per Battle
      Full Details:
Athalia draws upon his source to shield himself from the next barrage of assaults. In calling out to the source, he erects two large, ethereal scarab wing carapaces to shield incoming damage.

This carapace will protect him from significant damage for the duration of the ability, ensuring he can weather significant damage before it's necessary to retreat; any allies that take cover behind him will be shielded for the duration of the assault.

The shield is no more than 7ft high and 6ft in diameter at any given time.

This ability can be countered by flanking Athalia as it's radius is a frontal 180 cone; his back remains exposed.

Something inside of her had definitely shifted. Instead of trying to cut him off when he said something stupid about respecting the guy he had literally just killed, she just kept coming towards him without saying anything at all. There was something about seeing a dead person that just made violence seem like a better answer.

Athalia was such a stuck-up soldier type, too. She'd been dumb to think he was gonna listen to anything other than getting stabbed.

It was only the calling out of magic and the sudden golden shield that sent her skittering to a halt. So that was what he could do. Since he seemed busy holding it up, she took a second to look it over. She was aware that under other circumstances she would have thought that it was shimmery and cool, but right now she was just glad it wasn't anything that was exploding at her.

With the little reprieve, she met his eyes through the magical light. "Respect?" she asked, and shook her head, voice still flat. "Y'know, I know what he wanted. He called for help. He wanted someone to stop you."

She was still looking more at the magic than at him. It would probably go away on its own eventually. Senshi magic always did, but she wasn't gonna give Athalia that much time, or that much security. She gripped her knives tighter.

"So that's what I'm gonna do."

She brought the knife down handle first with her full body weight behind it, like she was smashing a window.

"And so did they," he replied back, tone sharp as he referenced the unfortunate souls that had been left at her now deceased friend's mercy. He'd had this conversation more than once now and it was always the same, some nonsense about how they were 'bad people' or 'less than' and therefore they deserved to be used, abused and tortured. Athalia had not and never would, buy in to the feeble excuses and if he needed to go to these extremes then he would.

Sometimes, there were just those people in the world that couldn't be saved and on this occasion, that senshi had been one of them. Just because he'd finally felt some fear, confronted by something just as strong as him, didn't mean that he deserved mercy. What he had felt was exactly what his victims had felt, the only difference was that no one had come to bail him out so that he could try it again somewhere else.

His expression was cool, even as he knew what would come next.

His shield had never stood a chance and it shattered the moment the Captain struck it. Disintegrating into the aether, he was left with only a hair's breath between himself and Sylvite... With very little time to decide on his next course of action.

Driven by instinct, he simply did what he was accustomed to within his own dojo and slammed his right palm down on her wrist, while moving his left to sweep at her neck. She had the upper hand in this one, she was quicker and more powerful, but he did at least have the close distance to his advantage if he could at least knock the dagger out of her hand and wind her.

...Not that he wouldn't put it passed her to have something up her sleeve.

Sylvite hadn't looked too hard at the other bodies that were laid out behind the senshi. It had only taken a quick glance to tell that they weren't as broken as the dead guy, though, and as she spared the another, she was pretty sure she saw one of them start to shift.

"They're breathing," she shot back, her voice just as cold as his. That was the moment the shield broke, though, which might've made it hard to hear. It didn't make as much noise as she'd been expecting, but it was hard to miss the way it cracked and then drifted away, almost like a youma. She didn't really care if he was listening, though. They were way past that.

Also, they were face to face.

His attack came quick. Sylvite should've been quicker, but he was sneaky, too. She barely made it out of the way of a hand coming at her neck only to not see the one coming for her hand at all. It hit. She hissed at the pain. Her fingers opened despite her best efforts. The knife went flying, eventually crashing into the asphalt and skittering to a halt near one of the not-dead bodies. Her eyes went wide for the first time that night. He was good. He had some kind of training she hadn't expected.

Luckily, she had two knives.

The first knife got shoved at his chest. It wasn't quite a feint, it would be great if it hit, but she wasn't putting all her eggs in that basket. Squinting, she summoned her other knife back to her hand and slashed out a little lower.

Two could play at that game.

He'd heard it, but when it came to priorities in the middle of a battle, it wasn't exactly something that he needed to be replying to now. He may not have been outnumbered but in this particular case he was outgunned. She may not have been a general, but the captain had been in her role for quite some time and that power disparity was definitely there.

Disarmed she might have been in one hand, but the other had held fast and he remained very much without his own means of defence. Her aim had been true though and had he not made the sacrifice he had in the time he had, she would have done more than just stab him. Instead her dagger had met his hand, it had gone cleanly through it, but it hadn't hit his chest.

In this world, death was not high on his list of things to do.

That didn't mean he necessarily preferred such a significant and problematic injury, but it was his only choice.

Her other dagger however was met with a more agile hand, one that had no issue with deflecting it for the time being. It hadn't come with quite as much more force as the last time, but it was enough to keep it away from him. She'd done more than enough damage to one arm to at least ensure it was out for the count though, or at least it was no longer capable of complex dexterity. At most, his left arm would be good for nothing more than a shield now.

That in mind he pulled away, eyes flashing and jaw hardening at the pain that shot up his hand in the process.

A little distance was all he needed, he just needed to be able to see her ever so slightly so that he stood a chance of catching the rest, but given their capacity for teleportation he remained at a disadvantage.

Give her another opportunity and he'd have another hand gone, or perhaps worse.

She wasn't exactly playing with a toy, what she had was real...

Sylvite grimaced as she tugged the bloody knife free. She hated when stuff got messy. She hated it, and if Athalia had been the tiniest bit more of a decent person, it wouldn't have had to come to this.

Her other wrist, the one that he'd hit before, stung sharply just from the impact of the block, but that was okay. It didn't take much to see that she was getting more and more of an advantage here. His magic had busted after barely doing anything for him, and now he had a giant hole in his hand. He wasn't gonna be able to protect himself for much longer.

No, Sylvite didn't like this, but that didn't mean she couldn't deal with it. She was a soldier. She gritted her teeth and readjusted her grip on her knives.

When he tried to step back, she made sure to stay right up in his face. She didn't have to waste any teleports, not when she was faster than him. She slashed out again.

"Hunter's Strike!"

With everything that was going on, Sylvite hadn't noticed the aura coming towards them, even with how strong it was. She'd barely even noticed someone calling out an attack, but she definitely noticed when several magic arrows thudded into her back.

The breath left her body in something between a cough and a gasp. She sputtered and glanced backwards, and found out that she could at least still move, but ow.

At the corner where Sylvite had come out from earlier stood a senshi with silver antlers in her hair and something dark and angry in her purple eyes.

"Get away from him," said Cybele. "Now."

A convenient intervention, and one that had saved his life. Had Cybele not been in that vicinity on this particular evening then this story would have ended very differently. It seemed that on this occasion however, lady luck had deemed fit to change the tide in his favour. He wouldn't die this evening, battered, bruised and maimed he might be, but he'd live to fight another day at least.

With the Captain distracted the man took several steps back, he didn't need to limp, but between weariness and the pain in his palm, he wasn't in the best of states. At least he had no final words to utter, no triumphant or goading remarks in what would otherwise have been seen as the perfect opportunity for some individuals. Suffice to say that even he knew that this battle had been lost for him, and it was only the remotest of 'wins' because someone significantly more impressive had joined the fray.

His expression was to be as grim as expected as he regarded Sylvite, he suspected that this wasn't over. She might still prove the opportunist and strike, but in a two against one battle he might be able to hold out a little longer. The odds weren't currently in her favour but that didn't mean there wouldn't be a round two if they crossed paths again.

Even if something wasn't dead at his feet.

Even if the circumstances were peaceful.

...In his mind he could only assume that all would not be forgiven and that it would be wise to watch his back in the future.

Fortunately it also seemed to be that witticisms weren't something he was entirely inclined towards this evening either. Cybele would receive no flippant or wistful greetings, a nod in acknowledgement was about the maximum he afforded for now.

Sylvite sucked in a breath. Okay, she could still kind of breathe. That was a start.

Athalia stumbled away, and everything seemed to slow down for a second, at least for long enough for Sylvite to really look at the woman who had attacked her.

The Negaverse Database was Sylvite's thing, her pet project. She'd read it cover to cover multiple times, and because of that, even though she'd never seen this senshi before, she had a pretty good idea who she was looking at. Green hair. Antlers. Hunt magic. Cybele. Umber had said she fought to kill, and classified her as a high level threat. Umber, who had ended up as kind of a nightmare in his own right.

Looking at her now, Sylvite could see it. She was an Eternal, too. If Cybele had been the one she'd found by the corpse, she might have tried sometime, but right now she was cornered against another guy who definitely had no qualms about killing her.

Nope. She wasn't about to die tonight. She squeezed her eyes shut and used her last teleport to bring her to the Negaverse castle.

She was gonna have to report some stuff.

"Your timing is impeccable," Athalia spoke up upon the departure of the Negaverse agent. Had Cybele not appeared when she did, had those arrows not flown at that moment, and had they not struck where they were supposed to, then it was safe to say that his future may have been open to debate. As it was the senshi had been given some extra time and while more than a little battered and bruised at this stage he was alive.

He owed her a debt of gratitude.

It was with a wince that he pulled himself to his feet again, righting himself and adjusting his grip on his hand to stem some of the blood flow. The wound he had, while not life threatening at the moment, was one that would require hospital treatment. He hadn't quite worked out how best to explain the circumstances that had befallen him at this stage, but he was sure he could work through it as he made his way there.

"You have my thanks," he added as he gave the woman a curt nod. He didn't need the lectures, not yet at least, he had done what he deemed necessary and he could certainly acknowledge that not all of it had gone to plan. Cybele had reminded him already to be careful around those with more power than him, but it wasn't as if he had planned to fight them both...when he'd arrived they're only been one.

That one had called for help.

Yet another reason for him to find reliable allies of his own, if the Negaverse ran to protect their own then it stood to reason that the only way Order would win was for them to do the same thing.

"You don't mind if I go and have this attended to, do you?" he hazarded and lifted his hand gingerly. "It's safe to say this is going to leave a more lasting mark than I would prefer." He conceded.

Threats didn't tend to work, but this time must have been different. With a strange, dark flash, they were alone.

Cybele moved quickly even once the Captain had vanished. She tugged hard on the tails of her waist bow, tearing them off neatly as she crossed the distance between them. While she was nearly as far as one could get from being a doctor, she could see blood did know that bleeding was generally bad.

"I try to keep an eye out," she said, holding the makeshift bandages out to him. "I could have been faster. How bad is it?" Her tone was even if somewhat cool. Her gaze did not soften as she took a longer moment to glance at his hand. This was still an active situation, and she was treating it as such. "Do you need an ambulance? A taxi?"

That was when she caught sight of the figures behind him, and her brow furrowed a bit. She'd seen the dead civillian as she'd made her way over, of course, but bodies didn't matter so much when there was still fighting. Athalia was still her first priority, but there was a deeper concern there as she asked, "What happened?" That was a lot of damage for one agent.

She was greeted with a half smile as she offered up her makeshift bandages, at a time like this it was greatly appreciated and he made quick work of coiling them strategically around his hand. Having woven it around three of his fingers and down again, he then braced and pulled up the fabric to tie it fairly tightly. It would stem the blood for the time being at least, but he would be thankful for the fact that he now had a career in 'magic'.

...He'd heal a little more faster than anyone normally would.

"Bad enough to know that I won't be using it for a while," he sounded grim, but didn't seem to be distressed. He'd made his choice and he knew he'd have to accept the consequences, that didn't necessarily mean he had to be happy about them though. After all, if he didn't get it fixed properly and it didn't heal the right way, then his hand would be irreparably damaged.

"But not bad enough to die from it," he added and shook his head. He'd lost blood, but not enough to be of immediate concern. However, the sooner he did get this looked at, the better.

"I think I can manage on my own though," he added and glanced over his shoulder, following her gaze towards the still unconscious but safe civilians. "Provided I can rely on someone to make sure they're at least pulled into shelter to avoid any rain," he mused and sucked in a breath. To her question he could only provide an honest and concise answer, there wasn't really any point in making a song and dance about it.

"As for what happened... Someone wanted to consume everything and when advised to cease, they did not." He pursed his lips into a thin line.

"So they were made to do so."
