Katori was thankful that they lived close enough to visit Sauti. Whenever the seasons changed there was a huge festival in the nearby Sauti village and she loved going to it ever since she was a child. Not that the Zenan village they often visited didn't have festivals but the one in Sauti was just so colorful. It took less than half a day to ride their mounts to the village and then they could camp out beneath the stars. Her mama and papa were caught up in things with their nephews running amok but Katori and Taaru had managed to get permission to go. So after a morning of flying across on a pair of chiavi, Katori and Taaru found themselves staring down the Sauti village in all of its glory. The whole village had been decorated in an array of vibrant colors for the festival and little stalls set up by travelers and locals alike held goodies and even a few games here and there. Katori couldn't help but to sniff the air, a delighted smile rising to her lips. "Taaaruuuu! I smell sweet cakes!" She bit her bottom lip in excitement as she glanced over towards her twin.
Where did they even begin?!

Taaru felt both excited and overwhelmed. It had been a while since he had actually left the house. Most of the time he was practicing archery and magic., and when hhe wasn't, he tried to help his mother take care of the animals in the sanctuary. Just yesterday he helped her deliver a mammu baby. That definitely was... a life changing experience to say the least. He shivered, but smiled when he thought about the baby. Ah, he was cute though. His mind shifted to his sister when she pointed out the scent of the sweet cakes.
He loved the food in the festivals in Sauti. Every time they rolled around, he purposefully didn't eat anything for breakfast just so he could eat so much food that he felt he was the one delivering a baby soon. His mouth drooled at the smell of the sweet cakes, and his stomach growled. "But Katori," He protested. He looked at the meat on a stick stall across from the sweet cakes, and pointed at it. "We can't have dessert until we've eaten our meat!" He teased doing his best impression of his mom. Heehee, if mom were here, she'd have slapped me upside the head for that one. He grinned like a doofus.

"Oh you so funny." Quipped back Katori with a giggle. She knew exactly what her twin was up to with that impression and he was fortunate that their mother wasn't around to give him a good smack for it. Still she supposed that her dork of a brother was somewhat right. They should at least explore the festival a bit first and then get the sweetcakes.....after meat of course. The hybrid shook her head in faint amusement at Taaru's antics. "Alright then. We should just explore first and find some meat! I wonder if they still have those delicious kabobs?" Her gaze gleamed at the thought. She loved the smoky textures of the meat along with the peppered vegetables that they added to it!
"Come on Taaru!" Katori giggled as she reached out and tugged her twin after her, "Let's gooo!" With a laugh she pulled him after her away from their resting chiavi and into the mass of earthlings who were already participating in the festival. She would follow her nose and find that steamed meat and maybe even find some souvenirs along the way as well!

Taaru felt himself being dragged away deeper into the festival. "Goodbye, meat." He held his arm out towards the meat stall he was eyeing, as he was inevitably being dragged away from the food he wanted to stuff his face with. Although, wait a minute... He smelled the lovely kebabs they always get. They arrived at the stall, and Taaru stepped forward to grab a few. He handed two over to Katori and he started munching on his two, alternating bites on each stick in each hand. "Mmf, Thif if fo good!" He said, cheeks full of food. It was juicy and succulent food, always flavored perfectly, and the grilled veggies added a nice spicy flavor. He was in heaven.

While her brother went ahead and devoured the food, Katori flicked a coin towards the vendor and thanked them for the meal. Like usual the kebabs were delicious and the smoky meat simply melted in her mouth. "Zy-Zy can cook but nothin' beats food freshly roasted over an open fire." She commented with a happy moan before finishing another kebab and tossing it into the pile of discarded sticks. The food was just so good! Maybe next they could have sweet cakes....Katori's gaze trailed over the crowds as she reminded herself of another reason that they had come all this way. Sauti was known for its kinfa after all. Her mother wanted to see if they could find some being sold here to purchase and train back up at the animal sanctuary and perhaps even to relocate in the wild away from traders.
"Sweet cakes next, Taaru?" Asked Katori with a small grin. "We should make sure we eat enough so that we have energy to browse the stalls!" She bumped against her brother playfully. "Just don't eat too much and fall asleep on me. That's the last thing I need today." They had a mission after all. Katori clenched a fist in determination at the thought.

When he was finished, Taaru patted his belly and smiled "Mmmm, you got that right!" He waved a hand dismissing the comment about him going into a food coma. "Yeah, yeah I know." He scowled at the thought of doing work. He really just wanted to eat and have fun. And eat some more. Food? He sniffed the air and started walking towards the scent of sweet cakes as if he were in a trance. "Come on Katori, the sweet cakes are this-a-way!" He waved towards her, beckining her to follow.

Katori pursed her lips at Taaru. While she felt excitement from taking up a task from their mother it seemed that her twin just wanted to play. Such a child. She teased quietly as she followed him towards the sweet cakes. She was curious about what they would have. The little vanilla ones with the blossoms on them were delicious while she also liked the dark berry cakes. "We have plenty of time to shop around too." She commented lightly as she trailed a finger over some hanging necklaces and opted to stop to toss the vendor coin so that she could pluck one from the display. It was pretty with teal and green wooden beads with kinfa and other sauti creatures engraved into some of the beads with actual feathers hanging from the center of it.
If you see anything Taaru just let me know! We're supposed to be enjoying today more than anything else." She teased as she suddenly raced ahead of her twin. "Though if I buy all the sweet cakes I won't let you have any! I'll save them all for later for meeee~"

"What?! No sweet cakes...?" Taaru groaned. He knew exactly what she was hinting at, and she certainly wasn't hinting all that lightly, either. Right, the kinfa eggs. He snapped himself away from the sweet cakes scent, and looked around. It didn't seem like anything was out of the ordinary, and there wasn't exactly a huge sign that said, 'Kinfa eggs here'. "Where do we even start looking?" He scratched his head and shrugged at his twin. Just then, he saw a little girl with her parents holding a white speckled egg. He gasped. Or maybe there is a giant 'kinfa eggs here' sign.
He approached the girl and her parents, and asked them where they obtained it. They pointed him further away from the festival, in an area that was much less populated, and the stalls were a bit more spread out. After thanking them he went back to his twin and said "Well, they were helpful. You ready to rescue some eggs?"

Oh. Would you look at that giant kinfa egg? Katori couldn't help the grin that crossed her lips at the sight of Taaru approaching the girl and her parents. "Of course." She winked towards her brother before heading off in the general direction that the girl had pointed out. It was definitely a lot more spread out here and it seemed that there was less playful things going on and more business as people swapped for larger items and some even had magical tents set up. "Definitely a no running please area." She teased her brother as they approached what looked like a darker tent towards the outer area. Surprisingly it wasn't like there were many live animals and mostly what she saw were kinfa eggs decorated like some sort of prized gift.
The thought made her stomach curl. While she loved the festival she hated seeing people who took advantage of it to sell kinfa eggs. Those poor babies will never know their parents. She thought as she clenched her fists at her sides. "I hope we have plenty of coin to buy our family gifts with." Katori managed to whisper to Taaru as they approached the merchant's tent.

Taaru looked around and found the shopkeeper. He was a shifty looking guy, but he tried to hide his shady business practice with a smile. Those like Taaru and Katori who were more insightful than the average person could see right through that smile. Taaru was greeted by the merchant and Taaru put on an act of innocence, trying to distract the man, while Katori hopefully "acquired" some of the eggs without the man noticing.
"I'm looking for a really really special egg. You see, our other younger sibling is sickly and we're not sure how long she has. She's too young to travel, but she is always asking our parents to see a real live kinfa. We just wanna get her a really really out of this world egg. Have any like those?"
The shopkeeper led him around, showing him some of the more expensive eggs near the back corner of the tent, and as they walked around, he gestured behind his back at Katori, making circles with his finger, and then pointing to the exit of the tent. He only hoped she caught on.

While Taaru worked his magic with the shopkeeper, Katori found herself quite busy. Slowly but surely the hybrid girl had walked around and started picking the lock on the cages, her fingers expertly twisting the wires in the locks until they gave a slight pop. Scooping egg after egg into the bag, Katori kept glancing up to make certain that Taaru had the merchant's attention. Would he buy the other eggs? She bit her bottom lip thoughtfully before placing some fake rocks in place of the eggs. Maybe they won't notice. She thought with a grin before backing up and out of the tent.
They would probably have about two minutes after Taaru left the tent to get out of town? Surely she could grab some sweetcakes then. She just hoped that he could use some coin and grab two of the eggs at least before Zyphire stopped by later to do even more work around the kinfa peddler. Honestly now that she thought about it this was probably the reason her mother couldn't come back to the festival for a couple of years. Katori let out a soft laugh at the thought before leaving and standing under the shadow of the tree to wait on her twin brother's exit.

Taaru finished up with the merchant, handed him a bunch of coins and grabbed two of the eggs. The merchant retreated behind his table to start counting the coins with his back to Taaru. He put the eggs into his bag, and grabbed two more on his way out without the merchant noticing, thankfully. He left the tent, and jogged towards his sister under the tree. "Quick," he whispered. "Let's get out of here before he notices the missing eggs." He started running back towards where they had first arrived with their riding familiars, and said "Let's see if we can't buy a few sweet cakes while we're at it. Have any money left over?" He asked with his signature goofy grin.

"Don't worry, I gotchu." Katori replied with a playful wink as she slowly started breaking into a jog. Already her fingers were digging into the money satchel hanging at her side. She had seen the sweet cake stall and knew exactly where to go. Leading the way through the crowd, counting the minutes in her head until the true chase began, Katori swept through and handed a bag of coins over to the merchant. "Thanks!" She called out with a large grin as she slung the bag of goodies over her shoulder. Talk about a successful day! Katori giggled as she tugged her twin after her through the crowd and towards where their chiavi waited. No one expects the quick fly away. She thought as she whistled for their mounts and jumped on with ease. Years of practice had made both of the twins expert riders and it was no issue for Katori to start leaving the ground when the first set of yells started from the festival grounds. Success~!

Taaru saddled up and held onto his bag of eggs. Man, I love festivals! As they took off, he heard yelling coming from the festival, but they wouldn't find the twins, or their stolen goods. Once they were far enough away, He sighed in relief, and took a bite out of one of the sweet cakes Katori bought for him. "Mmmm!" They were absolutely delicious this time around. He downed the rest of the sweet cake, and focused on the flight. "We did it Katori!" He said as they approached the sanctuary. "Now we just have to make sure these little guys are safely hatched with mom."
Taaru had a blast, and was elated that their "mission" went off without a hitch.
