Prompt
Much had changed since the seeds were sown islands away. The sisters of Chibale kept communication with Chiume, excited to hear that Azehra was growing strong in Belrea. Many extremist sisters also communicated with Kiros, some even traveling to the new island to protect Esena. While strained, the relationship between the two had a common goal in protecting the seed of Elzira. Overall, it seemed that the new cousin trees continued to improve Aishan relations.
But still there was the big question on if the relationship between Chibale and the extremists could be mended. The sisters who held the strongest grunges from the war were growing older, and a new generation was forming with their own opinions. Curiosity outweighed anger and an interesting rumor was spreading around all four Aishan settlements.
It seemed that the young mystics were being encouraged to hold a summit somewhere in neutral grounds. No one knew exactly what the goal was, but many could speculate that a peace treaty might be in the works. The question is, would it happen considering their history?

Lumikani sat on the beach of Kiros, her weary eyes looking out across the waters to the Kahikinan mainland. All was quiet these days, the stress and anxiety of being followed fading away to a gentle hum. It left time for her older Alkidike to spend her time contemplating. Contemplating the family she left behind, both in Chibale and on Zinris. Contemplating the sapling that held the keys to the future of this endeavor. Contemplating how it would impact herself, her family, and the world.
As she looked out, she found her mind drifting once more to the news that arrived the other day. It seemed that something was happening in Zinris that caused the mystics to gather on Tendaji. News was slow to reach the isle, so it must have been months old, but still it caused the sisterhood to flutter with gossip.
It seemed they were tired of waiting and wanted something to pass the time. Unfortunately, it was hard to satiate rumors when you didn't get resolutions.
Lumikani let out a huff of a sigh.

Zayana was back on the isle once more, having spent a few days exploring the area with the other sisters around the mainland. She used it as an excuse for security, but the reality was she wanted to learn more about the land. She was obsessed, which was understandable considering she had only left Yael once before this trip.
As she looked around, she found out from the others that her mother was off on her own. Zayana was a bit concerned with how reclusive Lumikani had become. Maybe she was hurting more with the decision to leave than Zayana originally thought. So, she decided to searching for her near the coast.

Moving to stand, Lumikani knew it was about time she headed back. Other sisters were on duty, so she had a chance to rest and possibly go and check the status of the new bud. As she turned, she caught the sound of another approaching. Easily determining it as footsteps from a sister, Lumikani placed her blades away and rolled her shoulders. She stretched her arms high and walked toward the sister who was still in the treeline.
Maybe they had more news or speculation, but hopefully not a desire to gossip.

She emerged from the woods to nearly stumble into her mother. Smiling, she wasn't surprised to see her mother already detected her presence. Lumikani was like that. Looking around, Zayana noticed that she was alone (again) and seemed to be heading back to the camps.
"I was just looking for you. I just got back from the mainland. Need some company on your way back?" She asked hopefully. She knew Lumikani wouldn't say no, but she wanted to ensure she was still up to a conversation.

She hid her surprise at the sight of her daughter, but shared a warm smile that crossed her face. Moving close, she pulled her daughter into a hug, a greeting from the time they were apart. Even if it was only a few days, she still valued the return of her only local family member.
"Yes. Come, I'm sure you've heard of the news?"

News? She had noticed a few of the sisters whispering off to the side, but she ignored it in effort to find her mother. Had she interrupted them speaking on something? She recalled them talking about Zinris, but she assumed it was because they were homesick. Seems she should pay more attention.
Turning, she walked back the way she came.
"Oh...no. We were pretty remote...and I came right away. Did something happen - is the bud ok?".

Interesting. Lumikani noticed her daughter wasn't focused too much on the past. She seemed keen to protect the new tree, on top of exploring the land beyond. Plus, with the buds beginning to grow on Esena, many sisters were hopeful they might see a new bloom appear in the near future.
"Word came from the mainland. It may be old, but it's news. It seems the mystics met in person to resolve an issue in Zinris."

Her brows furrowed at the response, and she turned to look back at her mother. It was unheard of for the mystics, let alone any of the two tribes to mingle after what happened. So this was news and it did make sense so many sisters were whispering.
"It would have to be something big for them to go...Nivalis isn't one to sacrifice her pride to go against the teachings of the matron...".

"Indeed. She always struck me as carrying the weight of the tribe..." Lumikani responded in turn, her mind drifting in thought as both fell silent for a few paces.
The second half of the rumors were troublesome to think of, but nothing they could really address with their current bud. Lumikani was on the side of wait and see, but she still felt it important to tell her daughter.
"They say the matron passed away, leaving Nivalis to deal with a sick Elzira. They went to Chibale to seek knowledge and a cure."

She felt a little faint and her heart hammered in her chest. Elzira was sick? What did that mean? The thought caused her to suddenly focus on her past life, on her sisterhood, and on her sister. Did this mean that they might be unable to have any more Elaria? Did this mean their sisterhood was fading on the cusp of when a new one began?
"I can see why they are asking for help..." She replied, breathless, "How old is this news?"

It seemed for the first time in years, Zayana was focused on the past and not the future. Lumikani moved to pull her daughter close, showing solidarity and support.
"Months, most likely. Fear not, daughter, for the great mothers are strong. Aisha has survived for generations, and so will Elzira. And all trees bloomed in the future. It is why we have mystics, to help care for the trees."

The warm embrace of her petite mother was refreshing, reassuring, and reminded her of her childhood. The gentle love from a mother who showed it sparingly was something to be treasured. Lumikani knew just when the provide the support when the Elaria daughter needed it. Taking a deep breath and soaking in her mother's smell, Zayana stepped back with a strong smile.
"You're right. All we can do is trust the mystics to take care of the mother. If what you said is true, it seems as if we are all driven back together by the roots that grow throughout Tendaji. It gives me hope."

Lumikani was glad to see her daughter had grown so strong. It was a nice change and she respected the strength in Zayana. It meant she would help lead the next generation into strong, independent women who would protect the world. Moving to go ahead again, she began to hear the voices of the camp up ahead. Her body felt exhausted and comfortable enough to rest. It was rare these days with her being so restless, but often when around her daughter she found peace.
"Hope for what?" She asked softly, curious as they paused one final time near the entrance of the camp, the sisters gossiping and she wanting to go the long way to avoid them.

"Hope that with peace, I'll be able to see Kanika and Zandala once more."
They didn't often touch on the topic of the other family members, both feeling shame in leaving them behind. But Zayana was hopeful soon they could either travel across the sea, or maybe their family would come here. If peace was on the horizon, anything might happen. All they needed to do was be patient and see where the world would take them.
