Sure! Run the Jewels are the duo of rappers El-P and Killer Mike, and despite them having very different backgrounds and rapping styles, they mesh together almost seamlessly. El-P takes you to a dystopian future, and Killer Mike brings you back down to the crushing present.
I think what sets this album apart from their others is actually something out of their control - when it came out. 'Cause most of the album was written and recorded in 2019, but it describes the current police brutality protests / BLM movement with eerie accuracy. (Which makes sense, because it's not a new struggle, it's just more readily viewable in the social media age). There's a few lines from Killer Mike's verse in Walking in the Snow (one of the songs I linked above) that sum this up:
And everyday on evening news they feed you fear for free And you so numb you watch the cops choke out a man like me And 'til my voice goes from a shriek to whisper, "I can't breathe" And you sit there in the house on couch and watch it on TV The most you give's a Twitter rant and call it a tragedy But truly the travesty, you've been robbed of your empathy Replaced it with apathy, I wish I could magically Fast forward the future so then you can face it And see how ******** up it'll be I promise I'm honest, they coming for you The day after they comin' for me
So yeah. Lyrically it's one of my fave hip hop albums ever, both in style and substance. And the production more than holds up its end, there's some very cool sonic backgrounds to the words coming out. Even if you're not into hip-hop, it's an album I'd strongly recommend. Since you're into metal, I'd say to at least check out El-P's solo work, because it's got a lot of the same nightmarish imagery and energy as metal, just with a different backdrop.
