Wild Encounter

Solo or RP Format
Counts as 5 RP growth Points
Solo word minimum is 750, RP post minimum is 7

Prompt
Tendaji is filled with a wide array of wildlife, some friendly and some a bit dangerous. It's rare that an inhabitant of the world will spend a day without encountering a wild creature in passing, be it from hunting, traveling, or even taking care of a pet. The creatures of this world only seem to add to the colorful experiences that Earthlings, Aishans, and Kahikinans have each and every day.

[ For this prompt, we want you to pick one (or more) fauna in Tendaji and have your character encounter them in some way. Maybe it's catching a new pet, or animal watching, or maybe it's a hunting trip. Take some time to explore the flora and fauna thread and create a story around your character's experience with the creature(s). ]

[Onora]

Onora walked near the jagged rocks in between tidal pools, her mind preoccupied with the thoughts of her family. She remembered how her mother would show her the Sirenns in the tidal pools, screeching to find their mate. As she spun herself around to turn back she began hearing the screeches begin as they slowly crawled out of the coral. She wondered what went through these small creatures minds and how they knew they found their other.

Amoe had been in Matori for only about a week when someone had mentioned to her the tidal pools. And man, what a good idea that was. She was stuck running back and forth to the piers to get a dip in to rest and catch her breath, and the pools would make that so much easier. She could feel how dry her skin was and she was ready for a nice relaxing lounge session to do nothing and soak up the cool water.

She jumped from rock to rock and seemed nearly lighthearted when she found a pool large enough for her to submerge herself completely. Perfect. She wasn't actually paying attention, and only realized after she had cannonballed in that there was someone on the other side of this particular pool.

[Onora]

Onora felt a large splash of water against her back and a yelp escaped her lips. As she turned she noticed a woman in the pool infront of her. "Oh snap, I didn't know you were there!" She said before noticing this person looked nothing like the earthlings she has seen. "What are you?" She heard herself say before she could stop herself.

Amoe broke through the surface of the water after her cannonball and laid on her back against the edge of the pool. She could feel something digging into her back but before she could adjust herself it was brought to her attention that there was someone there and talking to her.

She looked up at the smaller water woman and stared at her with an open mouth before realizing what the words were that were coming out of her mouth. What was she? Umm, a person? Oh, yeah, the skin, the ears, the gills, she got it now. "Kahikinan, I'm a Pale'iko." She answered the girl. "Name's Amoe." She nodded to the girl before fixing the sharp rock that was pinching her shoulder blades.

[Onora]

Onora gave a sheepish smile. "Sorry, I could have asked that better." She said with a laugh. "I've just never met a Kahikinan before but it's nice to meet you Amoe. My names Onora." The large woman placed her hands on her hips. "Do you usually cannonball into the waters?" She said as she gave a small huff and lowered herself to sit near the edge of the pool. Her legs entered into the warm waters and began making small kicks. "I was just watching the Sirenns, they are getting ready for mating season." She said as she pointed to the small creatures.

Amoe relaxed once again into the waters and let it sink up to her gills. "Only when I feel like it." She countered back with a grin. "Can't take everything too seriously, you know?" She laid her head back, wetting her hair to the base of her head and turned her head from one angle to the next, stretching out her neck. "Sirenn, huh?" She repeated. She still knew nothing about the critters here in Matori, or any part of Tendaji for that matter, but she had time to learn.

"Which ones are those?" She followed Onora's fingers and looked for the little shelled creatures. "Can you eat them?" She asked he water girl

[Onora]

Onora gave a hearty laugh hearing Amoe's response. "Well you aren't wrong!" She said as she kicked her feet slightly. As Onora went to answer the Kahikinan's question, one of the creatures screeched to call it's mate, making her laugh even more as it was not a pleasant sound. "Yeah you can eat them in a lot of things, I especially like it with potatoes. Nice and spicy."

Onora looked back at Amoe and wondered what creatures they had where she was from. "Do you have anything like these back at your home?"

Amoe stared at Onora for a bit, seeming to soak in her words and crunch some numbers. How many would she need to be full....?

She shifted her weight and bent forward in the pool, tucking her legs up under her. "Well we should catch them." She decided. Boiled sirenn sounded delicious and slurp-able.

"Yeah I mean, we have something kinda close I guess... it likes to dig into the mud of the rivers and cover itself up so you have to noodle them out." She made a gesture with her arms as if she was pulling things from the ground. "They're also pretty tasty but they swallow a lot of sand so their bellies are crunchy. Not one of my favorite textures." She pursed her lips at the thought of chewing on mud.

[Onora]

Onora thought of what the creatures would look like where Amoe was from. She seemed so different yet almost the exact same. Thinking back to catching the Sirrens though made her stomach give a small growl – She was ready to eat. Looking around, she saw one of the nets her neighbors leave for communal use and gave a smile. ”Alright let’s snag some.”

About an hour later, they were walking back inland, captured shellfish in tow. The two were able to talk a bit more about their lives and Onora brought up her family and how she was planning on travelling the world to find them. ”I wouldn’t know how long it would take but I feel like it’s time to leave Matori, you know?” She looked over at Amoe and wondered for a moment. ”How long did it take you to get over here?”

Onora gave her agreement to catching the small shellfish and grabbed a net. It was interesting to see that some earthlings just left their things laying around for anyone to use. And within the hour they had caught enough to make a meal. They looked like they would be juicy once they were done. The small critters huddled together in the net, their shells and claws clanking against one another as they walked.

It was interesting to think that Onora was looking for her family, not knowing where they were. "I know what you mean. Once we knew that there was an entire world out there I was on the next boat out." She answered Onora. "Not too long. It's the longest trip I've ever been on, but it was still only a couple of weeks. Why are you thinking of looking in Kahikina?" She couldn't imagine that Onora's family would have disappeared and landed themselves in Kahikina all this time, but she had heard stranger things.

[Onora]

Onora thought about it for a moment and then shook her head. "Not that they would be there, but I never really thought about how far I'd have to go." She said with a laugh. "I've never really left home other than when I was younger." She barely felt the pain but remembered the times in Oba.

They finally got to Onora's home, where there were plenty of pots and pans soaking in water near the entrance. She gave a toothy grin and gestured inside. "Welcome! Now let's start cooking." She said with a laugh and placing the net on the table.

Amoe shrugged her shoulders, it wasn't for her to pry Onora's story out of her, but it wasn't hard to tell that some important stuff happened in her childhood. That's about all she needed to know. "Well, if you don't have any leads I'd say you're probably going to be out a while." She followed Onora into the house and slapped her hands on the table where the net was. "Now. What do you need me to do?" She offered before rubbing her hands together.

[Onora]

Onora laughed at Amoe's enthusiasm and began giving her orders on the Siirens before them. Soon water was boiling and the critters were placed in. Onora knew she would be leaving for a while, but she loved the thought of meeting people like Amoe and writing her own chapters in her life.

After eating their fill, Onora gave a sigh. "Oh man that was so good. Thanks for helping me gather them."

Amoe watched with love in her eyes as the little critters boiled in a pot and slowly turned bright red. They were done and oh so good looking. She had just enough manners to wait for Onora to divvy them up before she dug in with her bare hands snapping the shells in two and slurping the chunks of meat out.

Once their meal was cleared and empty shells laid everywhere, Amoe sat back in her chair and rubbed her now full stomach. "Mmmm yeah. Not quite like the ones we have back home but those were good." She licked her fingers for added enthusiasm. "Sweeter."

"If you need help getting together a meal like this again, let me know. I could do this every day." She said with a laugh.
