Mid-Season Harvest Festivals
Solo or RP Format Counts as 5 RP growth Points Solo word minimum is 750, RP post minimum is 7
Prompt With so many inhabitants of Tendaji still working the lands, it's common that a festival or party is held to celebrate the transition to a new season. With summer in swing, it's about time to celebrate again. This transition goes from cultivating the land to full-harvest, so many hold celebrations to thank the gods for rain, earth, and successful growth of their plants.
Be it on Tendaji where the Earthlings celebrate thanks for their crops and land, or the Aishans thank their great mothers for prosperous hunts, or even Kahikinan where they celebrate a transition from the heavy rain season, all of Tendaji has reason to gather during the summer months.
[For this prompt, find someone to celebrate a the change of a season wherever your character is. If your character is alone, now is a great time to consider the transition of the season versus the transition of your life.]

The warm waters of summer had floated into the swamps and lagoons of Elehun and everyone knew what that meant - summer festival time. Malea was such a huge fan of the festivals, they were a great time to gather together and celebrate everything that was there to be thankful for.
This festival was for the bountiful crops that were growing along the shores and the incredible amount of food they'll have when it will be time to harvest. Malea sighed as she sailed through the waters leisurely. The people were starting to gather in the sun of midday, and stands were already selling snacks and treats for the underwater kahikinans.

[Kalpana]
Kalpana swam with a couple of boxes as his father called for him near their family's tent. It was summer festival time and Kal's father always sold his fish finds, some stones and pearls even decorated by his mother. He had a love hate relationship with festivals, because while he always wanted to go and enjoy the times and festivities, his parents had other ideas for him and put him to work.
After placing his things down on the table, he looked around at the others who were able to fully enjoy themselves, and noticed there was already quite a crowd gathered around the stalls for foods and trinkets. Resting his head in his hands on the table, he began to hear his father's speech of the over-exaggerated stories of how he came to find this stuff.

Some of the stalls were still being set up, but Malea could see that a fair amount of them were ready to go. She swayed in the waters while she looked through the stall wares to get a look at what everyone was selling this year. She made smalltalk with the vendors and asked them questions of anything she could see that was interesting. She was hoping that there would be imported herbs and plants from other areas, but she hasn’t seen anything yet. Most of what she could see was the browns and greens of the menehune in the waters.
The next stall on her way had another menehune boy that looked to be about her age looking pretty unimpressed with the day in general. ”Hello. Is your stall open yet?” she asked him with a smile on her face.

Kalpana was daydreaming about leaving the stall and talking to the ladies when he heard a light voice ask a question. His eyes looked over and found a small woman and as his eyes quickly searched up and down, he nodded his head . "Yeah we are open." He said as he gave a small gesture to the things on the table.
Looking back up at the woman he gave a warm smile and asked, "Is there anything that peeks your interest?" He said leaning slightly on the table before slipping and almost falling, his face turning a shade of red.

Malea felt his eyes on her and couldn’t help but feel a little less than comfortable, but she tried to brush off the feeling. She was probably imagining things. But his little faux pas had her giggling to herself, her spirits lifted even if just a bit.
“Oh, uh, I... haven’t actually looked to see what you’re selling.” She darted her eyes toward the table and inspected the array of goods quickly before looking back at him. “These are all interesting, but this one especially. How did you come by it?” She asked him, holding up a simple corded bracelet with a piece of sea glass surrounded by two pearls on either end braided into it.

[Kalpana]
Kalpana rubbed his hand through his hair, recovering from his slip on the table, and looked with a wide blink at the bracelet that the woman had picked up. "Oh that?" It was a pretty regular looking bracelet, nothing real fancy to it. A simple girl, he liked that.
"My mother makes them. She makes a whole bunch with whatever bits of things we pick up fishing." He wiggled his eyebrows and leaned further over the table. "You know, I can cut you a great deal if you like that one."

Malea blushed with his salesman pitch. He seemed to be a nice guy but he was very outgoing. It wasn't overbearing, but it was surprising. She hadn't come across someone as enthusiastic as him yet. "Oh, um, what kind of deal were you thinking?" She asked him. It was a pretty bracelet and maybe he had others she hadn't seen yet.
"I would love to buy that one at least. It's very nice." She added.

Kalpana winked at her, not quite reading the vibes right. He was sure she was falling for his charms, and the blush was just a confirmation of it. "Well do I have a deal for you." He rummaged through the crates under the table for a few moments before pulling out a corded necklace that seemed to match. "Now normally, this beauty would run you five coins easy, but if you bundle it with the bracelet, I'll give you the both of them for 7 coins flat." He held out the necklace with the piece of sea glass in the palm of his hand, his other hand holding the cord still.
"And if you really want to sweeten the deal, you buy both of those and I'll throw in drinks later - with me." He winked at her.

She listened to the menehune boy ramble off his deal for her and when he finished his last bit she felt the blush on her cheeks deepen about ten shades. Drinks with him? She didn't even know him.
But she was flattered, she supposed.
"Oh... I, um... well..." She trailed off. She flitted her eyes down to the necklace and gingerly took it from his hands, inspecting it and seeing if she could navigate his come ons. "This necklace is nice, and it matches the bracelet so well." She hummed and glanced back his way. "I... well, I don't even know anything about you, not even your name."

[Kalpana]
Kalpana let the necklace slip out of his hands and into the girl's hands before grinning. "Name's Kalpana. See, now we're not strangers. You know my family fishes, and my mom makes jewelry in her spare time. Seems like we're off to a good start." He rested his arm against the table and put his other hand on his hip. "How about you return the favor and tell me your name?"

Malea felt the heat in her cheeks grow to flames and she felt like she could have stared a hole right through the necklace with how hard she was avoiding Kalpana's gaze. "Oh goodness." She whispered under her breath. She glanced quickly his way, seeing his grin and feeling like she could freeze again. "I'm Malea." She managed to get out.
"I... uh... I'll take both of them." She affirmed. She reached in her bag for the seven coins and placed them gently on the table. "I guess we're not strangers then." She hesitated a moment before continuing on. "Maybe a drink or two and we could be friends." She tried to assuage him. He had never said anything offensive or that he was looking for anything insidious, she was just jumping to conclusions she assured herself. She tried to shake the heaviness of her embarrassment off of her shoulders and gave a small smile to Kalpana.

[Kalpana]
Kalpana could feel the cheer rising in his throat but had to stamp it back down before he damn near scared the girl away. She was timid that was for sure.
"Great! So, uh, maybe after our booth closes down for the night I can take out around the festival then? You can tell me more about yourself." He swiped the coins off of the table and got out a little bag for Malea to carry her new purchase in. "I can tell we're going to get along great." He grinned and held out the bag for Malea to take.

Malea returned the grin and tried to breathe evenly to slow her heartbeat. "Yes. I can hear more about your business." She took the bag from Kalpana's hand and gave it a little wave. "I'll... come find you later?" She offered. It made her feel a little better knowing she would be the one to meet up with him rather than feel anxious that he might not find her.

[Kaplana]
Well this had gone much better than Kalpana had thought. The day was still young and he already had a would-be date for the night. Talk about luck. He returned the wave and watched her float back and down the plaza to the other stalls. Who would have thought that getting saddled with watching the booth would have been a good thing, Kalpana thought to himself, already waiting for the hours to pass.
