Mid-Season Harvest Festivals
Solo or RP Format Counts as 5 RP growth Points Solo word minimum is 750, RP post minimum is 7
Prompt With so many inhabitants of Tendaji still working the lands, it's common that a festival or party is held to celebrate the transition to a new season. With summer in swing, it's about time to celebrate again. This transition goes from cultivating the land to full-harvest, so many hold celebrations to thank the gods for rain, earth, and successful growth of their plants.
Be it on Tendaji where the Earthlings celebrate thanks for their crops and land, or the Aishans thank their great mothers for prosperous hunts, or even Kahikinan where they celebrate a transition from the heavy rain season, all of Tendaji has reason to gather during the summer months.
[ For this prompt, find someone to celebrate a the change of a season wherever your character is. If your character is alone, now is a great time to consider the transition of the season versus the transition of your life. ]

They had been in Belrea for about two days when Kaimana learned of the festival.
The airships had docked and the group found themselves resting up in the city. A nice inn had been located, everyone in the party assigned to their rooms and after a day or so Kaimana already found himself restless. It had almost been four years since he last saw Belrea and the city still took him by surprise. Everything was similar and yet so different overseas. The cobbled stone streets stretched throughout the city and little shops and even cafes dotted the area. I will never forget those sweets. He mused as he noted a bakery nearby. However, something else stood out as the Matori surveyed the city from the entrance of the inn. Along the streets were more decorations than usual and the buzz of a festival filled the air. Little temporary stalls full of goods and games decorated the inner city square and earthlings hurried about with excitement. The park was also decorated, vibrantly colored ribbons swaying on the trees in the wind and little bells chiming wherever they hung in pairs throughout the city.
It was a beautiful and charming sight to behold. Even Kaimana had somewhat cleaned up for the experience after being pressed by his fellow travelers to do so. Tugging at the neckline of the pale brown tunic decorated with golden threads that he currently wore over his soft leather leggings, Kaimana resisted the urge to pace as he waited outside of the inn. ”You should take Sriina to see Belrea! You’ve been here before but this is her first time overseas. Why not enjoy it? The festival is perfect! Why did Kaimana have a weird feeling about their intentions whenever they pushed him into this? His cheeks still burned with a flush as the memory of his first meeting with Sriina flashed through his mind. Surely it was just the awkwardness that tightened his chest in the moment. She hadn’t meant anything by it. Why would she? Kaimana had fought to hide his conflicting feelings throughout their whole journey overseas, keeping himself busy helping others and taking the effort to be friendly yet slightly distant from Sriina whenever he could. It was simply too confusing to deal with the feelings that she stirred within him. But Kieran had basically shoved him from his room and urged him to go and explore the city with Sriina before they departed from the city and cut through the countryside towards southern Belrea to board a ship for Kahikana. Kaimana had finally agreed after truly thinking about it. Why let one moment haunt him like that? Surely spending time together was the best way to overcome his sudden shyness around the other Matori!

Sriina had never seen anything like the cities of Belrea. Traveling on the airship was one thing, and the entire way she was trying her best to keep her composure. She didn't imagine herself as the type of person to get sea sick, but apparently air sick wasn't above her. But now they were on land again, and she had never seen cities constructed like Belrea had. The streets were finely paved, everything looked fairly clean, and the level of technology was mind boggling. It was beyond anything Sriina had encountered yet.
She left her room of the inn and pulled her cloak hood down to her shoulders. She was to be meeting Kaimana somewhere, she just had to find him. Her thoughts traveled back to the first time she had met him and she felt a blush rise up to her cheeks. It was certainly some meeting, though she reminded herself that she didn't always drink like that, and therefore didn't always throw herself at men.
She opened the front door to the inn and spotted Kaimana just outside.

Kaimana nearly jumped whenever Sriina emerged. The Matori had been so lost in his thoughts that her sudden presence surprised him and he couldn't help the slight flush that decorated his cheeks. "Oh hey!" He managed with a small smile, his gaze warm despite his awkward wave. Perhaps it would have been easier to act normally around Sriina if the memory of their kiss didn't linger with him. Still, Kaimana had not been able to shake it nor really share the truth of that moment with anyone else. How did he even address such a thing? He truly was so innocent that he didn't even know how to handle a kiss? Others did such things all the time so why did it make him so flustered?
Focus. The festival.
Taking a deep breath, he focused his thoughts and gestured for Sriina to follow him way from the inn. "The festival is pretty busy already. How are you finding Belrea?" He asked with a grin over his shoulder as he studied her once more. "Now that we have a couple of days to rest up you should really explore the city some. I remember my first time here....it was definitely an experience." Just like meeting you. Oh gods. Could he just focus on the festival? Kaimana found himself jerking his gaze forward in an attempt to hide the flush from spreading across his cheeks. "There's really good food at the stalls if you're hungry or we can just wander the park. It's really lovely with the decorations..." He offered before his words trailed off almost shyly.

Sriina felt herself staring slightly, her mind trying to work through the mystery that was Kaimana. He seemed frazzled, but then spoke as if nothing was bothering him. She couldn’t help but wonder if their kiss was on his mind as well, but there was no way to approach that without being completely and totally awkward about it. Especially when it felt as though he had been avoiding her the majority of the ride over.
”Belrea is... something else. I’ve never seen anything like it.” She answered his questions. It was almost beyond believability that a place like this could exist. ”The festival is also quite something. It’s nice to see that no matter where you go people find things to celebrate on the streets to.” She mused, her nose already smelling the wonderful scents of foods and cooking fires. ”I think it might be best if you led the way though, I’m not sure where to start yet.” She couldn’t decide if her stomach was hungry or just nervous.

Despite the awkwardness that tugged at the back corners of his mind, Kaimana found himself excited to show off the new country to his companion. "Right? I thought it was a bit too much almost at first but now I kind of miss it whenever I'm not here." He adored the lighting, the layout of the cities and how they had such elegant structures and even parks. It was not the same wild feeling that he enjoyed around Matori and the ocean but it was nice to have a place that felt calmer on occasion. It was a good place to relax and honestly if they weren't a whole ocean away from home he would consider it a decent vacation spot for anyone. "No idea? Hrm...they have these delicious meat pies..." He began as he held out his arm for her, a habit from often walking side-by-side with his twin sister. "That is...if you'd like." As soon as Kaimana thought that he had forgotten about things there was always that flash of a memory to remind him of their first meeting to make him flush ever so slightly once more. It was hard not to think about it especially when he was so close to her that he could study her face and think about how much he had actually enjoyed the kiss.
Spirits! What was wrong with him? Kaimana quickly glanced away with a slight cough. "I think I'm still getting my land legs back." He forced a grin as he glanced towards Sriina, "But I do have an appetite so I definitely would recommend eating a quick bite before wandering about. Are you planning on taking anything back with you from Belrea? It's a good chance to pick up a trinket or two." His first trip here had resulted in a whole trunk of souvenirs getting shipped back with the merchant's goods. Though Kaimana was determined to behave this time considering they still had to explore Kahikana in the next couple of weeks.

Sriina took the offered arm with a bit of surprise. It just seemed to be such a fluid, easy movement for Kaimana, not something she was used to seeing from him. She could feel herself relax more at the gesture, and a genuine smile rose through to the surface. Maybe she was overthinking things, and his avoidance was mostly in her head.
She hadn’t thought about souvenirs; she was still unsure whether she would go back to Maori and when she would see her parents again. Shopping for them would seem odd, but at the same time the thought was comforting. Getting something for them meant that she would see them again in the future at least. ”I hadn’t thought about it, but I think I would like to get a few things. Maybe for my parents. And food sounds wonderful.” She gave his arm a light squeeze as she agreed with his plans. His skin felt warm and comforting and she imagined the firm muscles wrapping themselves around her before she shook off the thought with a slight blush. She wasn’t quite sure where that came from, but she flashed back to the feeling of his lips and couldn’t help but feel that the alcohol couldn’t be blamed for her thoughts anymore.

Kaimana had been slightly more tense and worried about the reaction to his offer but seeing the gentle smile from Sriina made his heart skip a beat. Why had he been avoiding her again? Ah, yes. Kaimana's cheeks threatened to darken even more as he forced himself to look away from the beautiful Matori woman and instead towards the festivities. It was fine. He just had to focus on the things going on around them so that they could have a good time without him stumbling over his own sudden bursts of shyness. At least that was what he continued telling himself as he looked back towards Sriina, his heart skipping another beat at the sudden squeeze of his arm. Seriously what was wrong with him? Was he developing some sort of heart condition suddenly?
"Parents...yes." Kaimana gave her a small smile, almost sheepishly as he realized there was quite a bit he didn't know about the other Matori. "If they like trinkets then the artisans here are quite talented. Glass weights for parchment, chimes for windows or even jewelry made entirely out of stained glass." He offered before directing them down a flower decorated path with stalls dotted here and there, the booths steaming with freshly baked food. Some little pies caught his attention, his expression brightening as he recognized one of his favorite treats. "Here." Kaimana led Sriina towards the booth and handed over some coin to the vendor in exchange for two of the golden pies. They were freshly baked, their crescent moon shape fitting perfectly into his palm as he held one out to her before taking one for himself. "Hopefully you enjoy it. They're good for a quick bite and very filling." Savory with roasted meat and spices all tucked into flaky deliciousness, at least that was his opinion for them.

”Oh, they would love a wind chime I think.” Sriina’s parents had a porch to the front of their house and she was sure they would love another wind chime to add to the collection. Sriina used to spend a lot of her time as a teenager sitting on the front porch, watching the bustling of the road against the backdrop of the coast. It was one of her favorite views after returning from Oba.
She let Kaimana direct them through the roads and around the crowds until they reached a food stall that he swore by. ”They look delicious.” She took the one offered to her. The crust was layered and flaky and they were warm to the touch. She took a nibble on the end and could see what it was Kaimana liked about them. ”These are good.” She confirmed continuing to bite into it until almost half of it was gone. ”So how many times have you been to Belrea already?” She asked Kaimana. She wasn’t sure he had ever said, but he seemed familiar enough that she had to imagine it was more than just one quick trip.

Kaimana quirked a brow with interest. "Are your parents musical then or do they just find such things relaxing?" He personally enjoyed windchimes as well but it was another way for him to find out more about Sriina. Maybe she really enjoyed music herself? Kaimana's warm gaze studied her for a moment longer before he realized he was staring again and he turned quickly away as if looking about more. The gardens are nice here... Anything and everything to distract him from that strange sensation in his chest, right? He was almost thankful for the group of younglings that ran past until he realized stepping away from their rampage had instead pushed him closer to Sriina. Kaimana was only a breath away from her, his gaze widening as he froze in spot before he found himself looking towards her lips again. Spirits! What was he thinking about now?
"There's a crumb." Kaimana finally managed as his brain started to function again and the Matori man reached out to gently flick the flaky piece of pastry from the corner of her lips. An awkward cough rumbled in his throat as he pondered taking a step back though it seemed the crowd had surged around them so there wasn't much room for space...at least not near their current stall considering the new line of earthlings. Kaimana finally managed a slight half step as he pondered the question. "This will be my second. We came over the very first time the continent opened and stayed for a few months to trade and make maps. I usually draw the flora and fauna for records." Kaimana mostly did the sketches for the animals they encountered while his friend did most of the actual cartography and spoke with other merchants and scholars. Soon enough they would be doing the same in the new islands once they stocked up on enough supplies. He was truly curious about how that expedition would play out. In front of Sriina though that excitement always seemed to get placed second because of how much she distracted him. Not that it was a bad distraction....just something he was still trying to figure out.

Kaimana asked about Sriina’s parents and she looked over to him, just now noticing that he had been staring at her. Was it something she had said? Or maybe she was offending him with her eating? ”Oh, my parents just find it relaxing I suppose. At least I know I did. I always enjoyed feeling the breeze on the front porch at home with the wind chimes strung up across the ceiling.”
Her cheeks felt hot as he brushed a crumb from her face and he was suddenly even closer to her. They were stopped on the side of the road, staring at one another and she felt like she needed to do or say something. But before she could think of anything he had already backed away and was answering her earlier question. Only his second time; she would have thought that it would have been more, but he did say months so that would explain the familiarity. ”That must have been exciting, coming over here when Belrea was still the biggest news across the world.” She commented. She willed her cheeks to cool down, and tried to discreetly focus on her breathing. The thought of his fingers across her skin… it rustled up emotions in her she couldn’t put a name to.

"That does sound relaxing. My grandmother always had a few strung up, mostly ones made of seashells and some driftwood, but they always sounded so nice when I was growing up there. We lived in the deeper forests along Matori and not exactly on the beach though." Kaimana pursed his lips thoughtfully. "Maybe I should buy a few as well to hang up back in Matori when we return from this trip. I live along the shore now and I'm certain it would be a nice touch with the ocean breeze." He could only imagine what Belrea windchimes would be like, their pleasant melodies already ringing around the festival from various stalls as a breeze swept through. They sounded beautiful indeed.
"It was." Kaimana agreed as he tried to calm his racing heart. Being so close to Sriina had made him tempted to kiss her again and the very thought flustered the man, "My twin sister was a bit against it at first but the offer was exciting and paid well enough for me to take it. I've never been able to sit still since." Something to finally give him some sort of purpose other than fighting and helping out the local fisherman in their smaller village. He couldn't truly just play around with snaptrotters all day long, right? The very thought made him smile before he motioned for Sriina to follow him along the path that curved through the park and around all the festive stalls, "What about you? Do you find this experience exciting?" He asked with a small smile, his heart skipping another beat as he looked towards Sriina. "Is it enough to influence how you want to live in the future? Or will you find yourself ready to return to Matori?" Would she have plans when they returned to Matori? Kaimana found himself deeply curious if so and if Sriina was there the idea of staying in Matori for a long time was suddenly sounding more tempting than before.

Talk of going back home to Matori was bittersweet for Sriina. After leaving she had almost immediately met Kaimana and left for Belrea. She really didn’t have a home at the moment. She was sure she could go back to living with her parents, but it seemed like a step backward now.
”So far it’s lived up to expectations.” Sriina commented on her unexpected trip. ”I never thought I would have wanted to travel after leaving Oba, but I don’t believe I mind this one bit.” She smiled warmly to Kaimana, following where he led her. ”It’s still so early in our trip though I’m not sure what I want to do after we return…” She paused, giving the matter some thought. ”What about you, the plan is Kahikina after this, isn’t it?” She really hoped she was remembering right, she didn’t want to make a fool of herself, but she thought she remembered him mentioning Kahikina and exploring more land.

Kaimana smiled. "Good to hear. I'm glad that it's not too horrible an experience for you." He teased with a playful wink as his mood lifted at the revelation. At least she was doing alright with their trip and he was thankful that she had accepted his offer to take the job and tag along with the crew. And if she was still debating on what to do after the trip was finished then that meant he wasn't completely alone in figuring out the future. For some reason that thought made him feel more at ease, almost as if some sort of unknown extension had been given to something that had been bothering him.
"It is. I need to help map everything once we finish preparing the boat and make it over there. Should be ready within a week or so." Kaimana admitted with a nod. "Obviously Belrea was the first part but there is always Kahikina if you'd like to continue traveling together?" He asked before reaching out to pluck a windchime from a stall and handing it over towards her. "As for the future I'm not really certain what I'm planning on next. I suppose I'll just see what happens and if anything or anyone tugs me along somewhere else."

Sriina was right that Kahikina was the next stop, but she was surprised to hear that he was extending his offer to have her come along. She had been with the group for a while now, and she was feeling somewhat familiar with them, but was she ready to continue traveling? There was a momentary tug of feeling like she needed to see her parents, but after mulling it over she realized she wasn’t done traveling yet. She was still working through her own problems and going back to Matori wouldn’t help her fix what was wrong.
”Well… if you don’t mind, I think I would like to go with you. If I’m not a bother, at least.” She offered. Maybe she would find what she was looking for with Kaimana’s group. She felt a pull in her stomach at the thought of staying with Kaimana longer and looked at him from the corner of her eye. Maybe it wasn’t the group that she needed… but she brushed off the thought before it could finish.
