Mid-Season Harvest Festivals

Solo or RP Format
Counts as 5 RP growth Points
Solo word minimum is 750, RP post minimum is 7

Prompt
With so many inhabitants of Tendaji still working the lands, it's common that a festival or party is held to celebrate the transition to a new season. With summer in swing, it's about time to celebrate again. This transition goes from cultivating the land to full-harvest, so many hold celebrations to thank the gods for rain, earth, and successful growth of their plants.

Be it on Tendaji where the Earthlings celebrate thanks for their crops and land, or the Aishans thank their great mothers for prosperous hunts, or even Kahikinan where they celebrate a transition from the heavy rain season, all of Tendaji has reason to gather during the summer months.

[ For this prompt, find someone to celebrate a the change of a season wherever your character is. If your character is alone, now is a great time to consider the transition of the season versus the transition of your life. ]

The babes had the couple busy in ways Rham wasn't fully prepared for. First it was manageable with little Hyten being the only one. A gorgeous little boy who took more after Rham, but with his mother's crystal colors. Then, a year or so later, Faylen was born and that's when the real exhaustion set in for them.

It was hard work, but Rham wouldn't want it any other way, if he were being completely honest. Since the babes were still young, they had settled in Tale until they felt the kids could handle long hours in the wagon and Rham could get back to work his profession to it's fullest.

That being said, Rham had set up a day for them to go to the mid-season harvest festival. The kids would be with a trusted elder who would watch them. He stood at the door as he worried his cheek. It was really on one of the first times they were going to be leaving them. Usually one or both of the parents were with them.

"Remember, if you need anything at all, we'll be at the festival, and we'll try to be easy to spot," Rham said with a sigh and a smile. "Sathe, anything to add before we go?"

Sathe was just giving the littles ones their last kiss before she took a deep breath and answered Rham. "No, I think we're ready." Or as ready as she was ever going to be. Leaving both of her babies behind was hard enough, her chest already feeling slightly panicked, but she had to do it sooner or later. They deserved a break, too.

Sathe and Rham had been so busy since their little family had made an appearance and they needed their time together as well. They were only going to the festival after all. It was already getting dark, so before long the two children would be going to bed anyways. They would be fine... she was still convincing herself.

"We should head out before I change my mind." She whispered to Rham over his shoulder.

Rham smiled at Sathe as she wandered toward him and took her hand in his. He laced their fingers together and slowly guided her out the door before bidding another goodnight to the children and shutting it behind them. A sigh left his lips that was a pretty uncertain sigh, but shrugged and started guiding her.

"It'll be fun. I'll win you a prize, hm? They have little games and prizes, don't they?" Truth be told he usually worked through the festivities, finding it a very lucrative time since some people wanted to be looking their absolute best when they were in public. Maybe he was a tiny bit behind the times.

Sathe took a deep breath in and let it slide out from between her lips, hoping to get rid of some of her tension. Just because it was her first time away from the babies didn't mean she had to worry all night, right? Well, easier said than done, but she could give it a shot. She gave Rham's hand a squeeze and smiled at him. "Yeah, it'll be fun." She responded. "Have you been to a Tale festival before?" She asked him. She honestly didn't know if he had been, but he traveled so much he could be anywhere at any time as far as she knew.

"I can see the lights already." She pointed toward the trees, the light of the setting sun dimming and the lanterns starting to flicker more brightly as the minutes passed.

Rham tried to recall if he'd been to one of the festivals before, and honestly, if he had, he was probably working the crowds going to and leaving. So, he settled with a shrug and a shake of his head. "Most likely not properly. I was very work oriented, you know." The nod he gave as he spoke was slow and sagely.

The silence after that was comfortable, feeling no need to fill it with words. That's one of the things he loved with Sathe. They could simply enjoy each other without speaking. He'd known people who never stopped talking.

When she mentioned she could see the lights, he looked up and beamed. "Now I'm getting excited."

It took a lot more than he was willing to admit not to break out into a run like an excited child. "Tell me what your favorite thing to do is and we'll do that first."

As they approached the festival Sathe pulled her arm up and into the crook of Rham’s arm, linking hands with his. It had been a long time now since it was just the two of them. Hyten was almost two now and in all that time they hadn’t had a night off yet.

”Oh I used to love to dance!” Sathe almost sang out with quiet excitement. She always enjoyed all parts of the festivals, from the food to the goods and trinkets and the games, but the music was always her favorite. ”Do you like to dance?” Even though Rham and Sathe had been together for a long time it wasn’t something that came up regularly with them being on the road for so long at a time.

When she linked their hands and hugged his arm, Rham felt like the luckiest man alive. He stood a little taller at that and then hummed at her question.

"Actually yes! I loved dancing when I was younger. I just don't get a chance to do it often! I'm negotiating prices by day and exhausted by the time dancing usually happens in the festivities." The grin on his face never left. He looked down at his wife, squeezing her hand and then winked. "So let's definitely do that while we're here." It wasn't like he started looking for the dancers.

Sathe grinned to Rham and squeezed him back. It felt good to have someone she felt like she got along with so well.

”That’s great! I can’t wait.” She agreed with him before looking toward all of the strung lanterns in town. The lights flickering from the branches of the gnarled Tale trees set the mood for the night ahead of them and made everything seem more magical. Sathe couldn’t help but feel so in love with the date her and her husband were on and with the growing sound of music she couldn’t help but bob her head along with the beat.

”Come on, let’s have some fun.” She turned around so she was walking backward, pulling Rham with her toward the crowd of people. There was a drum circle in the middle of the crowd and she shimmied her way through the other earthlings and closer to the front, ready to relax and dance the night away.

The spark in Sathe's eyes had Rham's face heating up and his heart jumping to racing speeds. He couldn't help but grin and follow her as she walked backward, making sure she wasn't going to run into anyone. They had honestly needed this.

Eventually, he surged forward and grabbed her waist, starting to really dance with her through the crowd, enjoying the laughter around them. "I bet I can win you a prize at one of the games tonight, too." There were always games at things like this. It was the best part of it. Rham seemed eager to please tonight.

Honestly, the strung lanterns made him want some for the outside of his cart when they set it up for a few days.

Sathe would learn, Rham, while he said he could 'dance', well... he did try his best to stay on beat. It was clear he didn't care and was just enjoying himself.

Sathe swayed with the beating of the drums and let Rham guide her through the crowd and toward the other dancing festival-goers. She grinned and giggled at his attempts to dance and felt her heart warm in her chest.

”Games?” She cocked her head to the side. ”What do you think you might win me?” She wrapped her arms around Rham’s neck and planted a kiss as an end to her question.

”Let’s see what kind of things there are to do tonight.” She let Rham lead the way toward their next destination.

"Mmm, one of those cute stuffed animals, perhaps? Or see if they have anything as pretty as you." He gave her a wink before she planted her kiss, returning it. Right before she pulled away, Rham squeezed Sathe's waist and then took her lead, holding her hand.

He wondered what type of games there would be. Maybe ring toss. He had a pretty good eye for that. He could even attempt a strength one. He did haul huge spools and loads of fabric back and forth from the warehouse to his caravan.

"Do you have a favorite food from the festival?" Never too late to learn about your love.

Sathe let her love lead the way through the crowd and tilted her head to the side when he asked her the next question. Favorite food... She had to think about it for a second, it wasn't often that they were at a festival.

"Well, I think we could go look at the desserts. I have such a sweet tooth." She laughed out. It was hard for her to pick just one, but she knew whatever her favorite was it was definitely a sweet.

"What do you think?" She asked back. She didn't know what his favorite was either, but she had a favorite whatever it was Sathe would like just as much.

The question was turned on him and Rham hummed in response as he thought. He did squeeze her fingers a bit and then smirked.

"I think that one is easy to answer. It's any kind of meat on a skewer! As long as they don't dry it out and overcook it." Rham was definitely a meat and potato kind of guy. It wasn't hard to please him with a meal.

Now he wanted to buy her any kind of sweet she wanted. Rham spoiled with gifts and when any of his family mentioned in passing (within reason) something they would like, he did his best to try to get it for them.

"So games, food, more dancing?"

It seemed like they had quite the date planned out.
