The winds were different the further down one traveled from the mountains. Sylvirah had grown up astride her chiavi in the bitter cold where her lungs might collapse at any given moment. Even now that she was in the ‘south’, as she liked to call it, the landscape of Zena was so much more different than she knew. They had differing seasons here instead of a constant blanket of snow. It meant the herds could flourish, leaving villages fed and happy. It was strange to see after all she’d been through, but Sylvirah couldn’t say it was a bad change.

She’d taken a few odd jobs over the weeks helping watch the herds. Anytime an animal was threatened she brought down the offender, and if they wandered off too far a sharp cry from Ada could bring them back. The roati here were smaller than she was used to, but they responded like any other prey animal. Scare them enough and they went the way she needed.

That is, until a little black ram got brave and branched off from the herd. It was irritating to think about, but he must have run off while she and Ada were grounded. Now that they were airborne again Sylvirah couldn’t see a trace of the damn thing.

It was just like any other day for Iriyana. Ergon was at work and so she went out to train. Mostly she enjoyed running the tail. Especially after it snowed; it made things a bit more challenging. Today she had her bow in her hand and her quiver at her side rather than on her back. Riya thought that she might be able to get some practice in while she ran.

In certain places along the trail she had targets set up so that she could shoot while she ran. It gave her the chance to see how well she did while on the move. No one or beast was going to wait for her to have the best position. So it made sense to her that she become skilled in such a way. As she jogged along the beginnings of the trail she flexed her grip on her bow, always keeping at least two fingers on it to ensure she didn't drop it. Her empty hand stretched out and then curled in, feeling the air as it passed and drying any nervous sweat she might have so she didn't drop the arrow when she needed it. Iriyana had done this so many times that everything she did was second nature to her and she didn't really need to think about it. One foot in front of the other and her pace picked up.

She had a while to go yet before she reached the first target so she tried to keep her pace just below a full on run.

"Where did it go?" Sylvirah questioned under her breath. Ada had already made several passes over the herds usual stomping grounds which meant that the buck must have gone off on a new path. Giving the reigns a subtle tug she guided her chiavi into an area she wasn't entirely familiar with. The pair lowered their altitude to better see through the vegetation, only raising when the trees got too thick.

And in was in one such moment that she spotted something. On impulse Sylvirah readied her lance, tried to calculate where her prey would go next and let it fly. With any luck the weapon would land just ahead of it, causing the roati to cry out in fear and giving away it's location. In any case she made a wide arch in the sky above, readying herself for the outcome.

She was getting close to where her target was set up and so she readied her bow, grabbing an arrow and putting it to the string. Before she got there Iriyana caught the movement of something above, through the tree tops, and glanced up. As she did something came streaking down and stuck into the ground in front of her. Riya hissed and dropped low to slide to a stop. One leg beneath her while the other put her foot out to stop her momentum before she ran into the spear. When she finally did stop the spear sticking out of the ground was a mere foot in front of her and she was busy looking skyward.

Who in Chi's grace would go chucking a spear at her? And from above no less. She narrowed her eyes as she held her bow at the ready, searching for who it was that had be so careless.

[3/7]

Silence.

Sylvirah furrowed her brow. Did I kill it? Tapping Ada's sides with her knees, the huntress urged her chiavi into a descent. Finding a spot for the massive avian to get through the trees was difficult, but once they did Sylvirah realized her mistake. It wasn't that she was hunting a roati; she'd been hunting another iceling.

"Apologies! I didn't know there were others this far out." It was a little embarrassing, really, to be on the receiving end of another's bow. The situation was usually reversed. Still, she made sure that once Ada had landed that her hands were up and empty, just to try smoothing things over.

Riya stared in disbelief at the other female as she descended from the sky on her Chiavi. When an apology was spoken she gave a very un-amused look before she eased her grip on her bow and stood. The weapon was lowered but she still held it with both hands at the ready. "What were you aiming for?" As far as Iriyana could tell there had been no other creature on the trail in front of her. So unless she'd missed something this girl had deliberately thrown a spear her way.

She wasn't sure why, though, and that bothered her a little. It also made her a bit uneasy. Even more so when she looked more closely at the female and noticed she didn't recognize her."You new here?"

There wasn't a single person alive that she hadn't managed to piss off down here. Furrowing her brow, Sylvirah swung her leg over Ada's back and slipped off. With any luck this girl wouldn't be connected to any of those biddies in town, and report this back to Ergon. Like they need any more reasons to hate me.

"I took a job to watch over a herd of roati, and a buck got loose. I'm trying to track it. It went off trail, and we lost it once it came this way. When I saw movement I thought it was the roati so I threw my spear hoping to spook it. Instead, I found you." At least Sylvirah had the nerve to look sheepish about it.

"Ah, yes, I'm from a tribe in the far north. I'm here on...business." That was the proper way to say it, right? "I'm just waiting for a few loose ends to get tied up before going home."

Alright, well at least she fully explained herself and she had apologized. Riya sighed and shook her head, short curls bouncing a little. The one hand let go of the string, her other keeping the arrow in place with just a finger. With her free hand she ran her fingers through her hair and pulled it off to the side as she thought. "I've not seen a roati. Are you sure it came this way?" Iriyana wandered if it had gotten this far or if it has paused a little ways before the trail to munch on the berry bushes.

Turning her head to look into the trees she leaned forward then backward before pointing. "There's a small cluster of berry bushes some yards before the trail. He might have found those." If she remembered right they should be ripe about this time. Or close to it.

The bit about the girl being from up north caught her attention and she turned her attention back to her. A small pause happened then, allowing Riya to look her up and down. "What's your name?"

Sylvirah sighed and shook her head, little braids tapping against the skin of her neck. "It's only a guess. When it ran off we were grounded so that Ada could rest, and the other way was all open terrain so if it had gone that way we would have seen it." She reached up to run her hand over the Chiavi's feathers, earning a happy little chirp in return. The massive avian turn it's head to n** at Sylvirah's hair though the rider didn't seem to mind.

Craning her head to see around Iriyana, Sylvirah pursed her lips and nodded. "That's more of a lead than what I've got. Thanks." She reached up to free her hair from the chiavi's beak, and instead offered her a few nuts from a pouch on her belt. That seemed more than enough to capture the mount's attention. "Stay here, girl. Don't wander off."

With the chiavi distracted Sylvirah stepped up to it's saddle and took out some rope. Once she had it secured to her belt the iceling walked up to her spear and with a hard tug pull it free from the ground. "My name's Sylvirah, from the Ild'vann tribe in the Northern Mountain. You?"

She offered a small shrug with only one shoulder and smiled. "I run these trails pretty regularly when I'm home." So she knew them well enough. Riya watched the beast and with amusement. Normally she had her own little familiar around but today she'd managed to leave the house without him. Something she was sure she would regret when she got home and things were knocked over. Hugs did like his retaliation.

As the girl came forward to collect her spear Iriyana moved back a step so that she wasn't right up on it. With the introduction made she felt her lips twitch into a very knowing smile. Of she knew who the girl was now. "Ahhh.." She gave a grin. "So you're the new sister.." She couldn't keep the laugh from her voice.

"How many trails are there?" Sylvirah was genuinely surprised. Granted, she'd never been in this area, but maybe if it wasn't private property she could come out here for some training of her own. She'd been about to step off into the woods, keen on getting to the berry patch before the roati ran off, before the other icelings words caught her.

She whirled around with a suspicious look in her eyes. Of course she's already connected to them. Those scavengers just couldn't leave her alone! It was bad enough that they harassed Snowelle and Ergon, but Sylvirah couldn't so much as leave the inn without having some chittering biddie making snide comments at her.

"What of it?" Her tone had an edge to it now that wasn't there before. "If you're just going to pick at me it will have to wait. I have a job to do." Sylvirah turned her back and started to walk away.

She looked down the trail and took a second to think about it. How many were there now? "Four.. working on a fifth. There are targets set up along the way for me to practice." Iriyana had made most of them, though she couldn't take credit for the first. Well, not completely. It had been an old herd's trail through the woods that she had more or less taken over.

When Sylvirah had the edge in her tone Riya only grinned more at her. She made an innocent face as she shook her head. "Nothing. I didn't say a thing." As the girl turned to go about her business she crossed one arm over her chest and brought the other up to rest her elbow on it so that she could put her hand under her chin. Ergon's sister had a spine at least. "What do you think about your brother?" Riya was curious to say the least.

She tried to get away, really she did, but it seemed like the innocent iceling was trailing after her. At this point she had to wonder who was really being hunted here; the rogue roati, or her. "He's unpleasant and bristly." There really wasn't a better word for it; being around Ergon reminded her of rolling in a thorn bush. Thinking of him as her brother was still taking some time to get used to. "Still...he's dedicated to his mother and it seems like he's genuinely trying to keep things together. For his sake I've tried to remain as honest as possible, even if it hurts; Ergon's been lied to enough."

Looking back at Iriyana and her 'thoughtful' pose just made Sylvirah want to walk all the faster. It didn't take her long to reach the aforementioned berry patch, and sure enough, the little black and white roati was there, gorging himself on sweets. The huntress made a loose loop out of the rope, tossed it around a few times in the air and promptly lassoed the passive creature. Thankfully it didn't seem keen on fighting her.

When the roati was found Riya took up a place leaning on a nearby tree. She'd heard what Sylvirah had said and it made her chuckle. "Well.. he can be a bit bristly I guess." Unpleasant wasn't something she'd used to describe her boyfriend but she could see the bristly bit. Maybe even stiff. Iriyana didn't hold those against him though. He'd been raised far differently than she had. Still, she adored him. "I'll agree with you on that. Ergon was raised to a certain standard only to find out his father cheated." That would be a low blow to anyone.

She waited until the roati was caught before she pushed away from the tree to stand straight again. "I told him not to hold it against you and you should do the same. Neither one of you are at fault for what happened. Save the sour for your dad.. but give Ergon and his mom a chance. He's actually not half bad when he doesn't have to hide behind a mask." She smiled at Sylvirah again then turned to make her way back to the trail, her free hand coming up in a weird wave. "Hope to see you around again."
