Nin post 1
She was ready for her first adventure. They were to go out and capture some female snaptrotter for a breeder who was interested in wild stock for the best genetics possible. Kiyelt had invited her along to assist in what ways she could safely. This was her first real test and she was anxious to show what she had learned. She might have to medically treat much worse critters one day and animal handling was all about experience.
Take a deep breath she arrived at the meeting place. She was dressed for battle in leather shorts padded with cotton underlining. They were really comfy.

Kiyelt chuckled when he saw the busniness like outfit the girl had brought. She looked prepared for a barbarian war and he thought it quite funny but he applauded her effort.
"Well you look ready. Here is the net we will set up with meat to trigger up." He had a rather engenious method of capture he wanted to adapt to water creatures, "We need to find large trees with limbs overhanging the water. But the limb has to be pretty far up. "
They installed a few branch traps throughout the day. They did patrols to check them. It was fun working with other people once in a while, sometimes they saw things he didn't.

Nin was chatting with Kiyelt over sandwhiches when they heard a racket over by the water.
'I reckon we might have caught one!" She squealed and raced over to check, this was literally the most fun she had ever had. Just wrangling huge semi - aquutic lizards with huge teeth like it was no big deal. She couldn't believe this was his actual job. What a thing to be paid for. Not your average work week that was for sure.
"I see why you like doing this so much, I have never been more excited."

Kiyelt smiled at her enthusiasm. He had been that hyper too. Once. Now he was more dignified until stuff started to go sideways, then it was fun to put years and years of experience together with a body that was honed taming wild janarim in the desert. This was doubly exciting because of the added element of water.
It had its advantages and disadvantages. "Yes, the profession never did let me go." He would be a Beast Master though soon and that was all for the good. He deserved to be revered for what he had accomplished. It wasn't everyone who reached that level.
They arrived at the trap. "Well it is as I thought, we managed to catch the area male. This is the dominant and largest snaptrotter and the likely father of most of the offspring laid this nesting season. Unfortunately he is the wrong gender. Unless you were looking for a pet? What better way to jump into animal handling than with your very own Snaptrotter. He looks mean and grouchy enough to be a good guardian too.

"Whaa?" A pet, that? Well, he was kind of handsome in a masculine reptile kind of way. "Well I suppose, so long as he is not too wild." He could always help her train him.
"It seems like such a waste to throw him back." Then again he was glaring rather ferosciously back at them from between the rungs of the net. He also thrashed periodically which just looked so comical.
"Yes I will keep him if that is your wish." It wasn't every day one got a snaptrotter after all. Especially not one this big.
The snaptrotter snorted at them for attention. How dare they stand there and stare, they should get him down this instant!

He was happy she was so game to take on such a beast. He would help of course, a snaptrotter wasn't exactly easy. "I will take him for the first while so that if he is going to chew on someone it will be me and not you." He said. He wouldn't put her in danger she could not handle.
"So now we have to get him down." He went to play with some rope that was attached to the trap which released it and lowered it down slowly into the water using the pulley system.
He hauled the snaptrotter onto shore. "So I'm going to get him out of the net, I'll need you to get the loop around his mouth so we can control the jaws. I'll pounce him and you loop okay? Also watch both ends the tail can hurt too when they swing it."

She gulped but got the aforementioned rope ready. "Okay I'm ready when you are." She watched him manuever the beast out of the netting and pounce on its head, keeping the jaws shut using only his hand.
She stepped forward and looped the rope around the jaw when he told her too. There she had done it!. She Kept the loop tight and wrapped it around and around. Until the snaptrotter was tied to a tree with his mouth roped shut.
At least now he wouldn't be able to wander around.
"He will be okay?" She asked some concern in her voice.

"A little grumpy maybe but as long as it doesnt get too hot and we keep his eyes covered he should settle down quick enough and be fine while we are after his ladies. Maybe you can stud him out later. He would make cute offspring. The breeder we are getting the females for might be interested. They are the fancy mount of Matori and are in high demand especially in Oba as a status symbol." He had seen enough rich lizards there lounging in their own pools to get a kick out of it. They did love their snaptrotters alright.
"Lets let him calm down and check the other nets." He walked with her around the perimeter.
"You know you are doing a good job, I think that you are cut out for this. Someone like you can accomplish anything they put their mind to.

She glowed at his praise.
It turned out in the end that they only caught one female. They would have to try again on a different day to catch another girl. But at least she had gotten a new pet. She was so excited to bond properly with him.
He would be a really good companion to help keep other critters under control and it would be nice to have something so strong and protective with her when she went on adventures.
She sat beside her snaptrotter and stroked his skull, keeping him calm while kiyelt readied them for transport to the habitat he had set up for training. The breeder wanted to at least have them halter broke before taking them on. She would spend a lot of time with her own snaptrotter at that point. Racha would stay at the facility while Kiyelt trained and captured the second female as well. Or at least this was the plan. He said he would only release Racha once their bond was strong enough.

And that was the last snaptrotter on the cart for Rijiri and Sky to pull home. Good thing he had them to haul it, it would have been hard to try to walk them out of this swamp hole. He was glad to that Nin was turning out to be a helpful and competent assistant, since his previous assistant had run off to find his own fortunes.
"Once we get them settled into their home, I'll cook for you, this was a long hard day and you deserve it." There was much to admire about her, much of what he saw he could recognize in his younger self. She would go very far.

On the way there Nin took notes on feeding and care for the snaptrotters in trainging. She was to administer any medicine they would need and feed them and check their condition regularly.
She scratched it all down into her notebook. Many people had snaptrotters so the more information she could glean from these two the better. She had yet to go to the lady in the swamp for more healing advice but there was no harm in spending some time working with animals. She was still learning after all.
She was tired by the time they got the snaptrotter to where they needed to be. She watched while Kiyelt released them.

"Well that was a fruitful day." he tickled the big male snaptrotters tail until he went into the pool with his woman. No use in separating them quite yet. At least until Nin was able to approach one and him not have to be worried she would get eaten. He was a pro and knew exactly how sneaky these guys could be. He had trained a few in Oba for their riders. Lazy lizards in pools they were quite feisty when you broke them to ride. Which he would be doing for Nin. That way she would be more mobile and able to help others in need better in emergencies with her own means of travel. And no body would want to mess with a cranky old snaptrotter of that size anyway...well besides him.
He closed the gate. "Now we can have some food." Come along and make the tea while I cook.

In the end it was an absolutely deliscious meal, she could tell he had put a lot of practice into his cooking. It showed in how the spiced melded perfectly with the dish and accentuated the desired flavours. It wasn't Matorian per say but a blend of Zenan and Oban spiced that made her an addict for it. It was so fresh and new that she asked him right there for the recipe, to his obvious delight.
She couldn't help it, when you found a good recipe it was best to keep it for a later date because after that you were guaranteed to crave it again.
She looked out the window at the Snaptrotter Grotto.
"I wonder what they are thinking?"

"They don't know it yet but they will be living rent free for the rest of their lives. Fed, pampered, spoiled. You know. They are probably freaking out right now wanting to go back to their old pool but then they will realize that this is a nice place all for them. The female will be happy, lots of space to be had. We will have to get Racha his own female one day, he will make healthy babies. You don't get that old without good genetics."
She ate well and he made sure she got home safe before he went to bed. He would keep an ear on the pen though in case they got ideas.
