At heart, Iro really did love people, and she enjoyed nothing more than to spend time around them. In the relatively short time since she'd met Ilkay, she'd realized that he was great company, even outside of the bonus perks. There weren't many people with his level of sass in her neighborhood, and it felt rather refreshing to have someone like him around. After that initial encounter, when he'd given another boy a solid beatdown, she'd been keeping her eye out for news of some sparring nights, and she was here at his family's temporary lodgings with word that there would be a pop-up ring nearby in two evenings' time. It seemed terribly fitting that they might go for a nice brawl together. Iro approached the door, knowing that Ilkay might not even be home. A brief moment of hesitation flitted through her - she hadn't met his family, and they probably didn't know she existed - but then she quashed it. She was a friend, after all. And with that, she rapped lightly on the door, hoping she wasn't about to set herself up for an awkward run-in.

There was little Koray loved more than a little peace and quiet. Yes, he absolutely adored his family, and the friends he made, but when it boiled down to it, he was an introvert. Those blissful moments where he could be alone, softly humming to himself while he worked on his latest bit of embroidery were treasured. Though at first, he was a little frightened being by himself in their temporary little cottage. Everyone had things to do, parents selling goods at the market, Ilkay doing whatever it was that Ilkay did, and he was to watch the home. What they expected him to do when someone came to ransack the place, he had no idea. And then, the dreaded knock came, and Koray gulped as he picked up his little staff and went to answer the door. Behind it, a woman. Seemed to be about Ilkay’s age and that was already a good sign! Someone his age probably was one of the many many friends he made going all over the place. “Hello.... Um... Did you need something?”

Iro wasn't sure why the younger boy opening the door came as such a surprise. She should have known that Ilkay might not be home, but that his younger brother was. Her brain simply hadn't accounted for what she'd even do if she was greeted by a different member of the family. She blinked, wide-eyed for a second, and then gave him a wide, happy smile. "Hello!" she said. No need for any pomp and circumstance. He was just like another one of her little cousins. That thought set her at ease, and she beamed down at him with natural ease. "You must be Ilkay's little brother. I'm his, uh, friend. Iro. I just wanted to drop off an invite for a sparring ring happening in a few days." She was both surprised and unsurprised by the amount of resemblance between the two brothers, different though they were. Koray had sounded a little quiet, perhaps a little shy, in his greeting, so she tried to help the conversation along. "You're a particularly well-dressed fella," she said, noting his clothes. "Impeccable sense of style." She really wanted Ilkay's brother to not hate her.

“....” When her eyes went wide, so did Koray’s. He was a little shocked himself at the pause, and then instinctively smiled back. She seemed friendly enough, so he opened the door a bit wider for her. And he simply beamed at her when Ilkay was mentioned! “Mhm! I’m his little brother, Koray! It’s... It’s really nice to meet you.” Anyone who was Ilkay’s friend was guaranteed to be a friendly, kind person! Koray had no real idea why that was just yet, but a friend of his big brother was a friend of his! And she was really cool looking. Big and strong, and pretty... And she complimented him! A vibrant blush crept up across his face, to the tips of his ears. “You... You really think so?” Grabbing the edges of his clothing, he did a little twirl, the fluttery edges of his clothes picking up and billowing around him. “My Papa made them for me! I helped though! See the embroidery on the edges? The spirals? I did that!” Ah, but it was rude to keep standing there like that, so he hurried a little more inside, holding the door open for her. “Did you want to come in for a little bit? I’m sure Ilkay will be home soon! You can tell me about this sparring ring thing over a cup of... Something. Tea? Juice? I got milk too!”

"I'm happy to meet you too, Koray!" Iro answered, feeling pleasantly surprised by how pleased he was to hear that she was Ilkay's friend. What a sweet child! He instantly reminded her of some of her own younger cousin, and couldn't help but feel a certain kinship with him. "Your Papa made you some gorgeous clothes, Koray!" she said with genuine enthusiasm, leaning closer to look at the embroidered edges and laughing as he twirled. The way the fabric billowed really did look quite spectacular. "These are beautiful! You have a real talent for this." She straightened up with a nod. "Oh! If you don't mind, I'd love to! Just as long as I'm not intruding on anything." She took a cautious step inside, peering about. It seemed like nobody was around. There was a small p***k of concern as she considered the implications of a young boy like Koray letting a complete stranger into the house while he was there on his own. But... it was okay, right? She was a friend. "I'll have whatever you're having!"

“Hehe... Thank you!” He bowed his head a little, still feeling ever so slightly flustered at the lady’s compliments. No wonder Ilkay liked her! She was super nice with her words, and he knew Ilkay enjoyed what he called ‘small talk’. Once she was inside, Koray closed the door behind her led her to the little dining area. A simple, plain room, given that they wouldn’t be staying in this house for too long. There never was any time to decorate. The moment it would go up, it’d come right back down and get packed away. That was fine though! He still knew where the cups were. “It’s completely fine! Ma, Papa, and Dad all know that I’m smart enough and a good enough judge of character to know who to let in and out of the house.” He poured her a sweet cup of the local fruit punch, and placed it before her. His own cup was taken to a small chair that was by the window, where he was at before with his embroidery kit. “So yes! This um... This Sparring stuff! Where’s it at? Are the people tough there?”

"If you're sure," she said, following him into the living space. Any minute now, she thought, one of the parents would burst in and demand to know what a perfect stranger was doing, drinking juice at their dining table. This would be the weirdest possible version of escaping out a back window to avoid someone's parents. She thumbed the rim of the cup, doing her best to hide her nerves. Taking a sip, she decided she might as well focus on the conversation, and perhaps getting to know Koray a little better. He'd immediately seemed like a lovable boy. "Just... don't forget that in this part of town, they know who the newcomers are, okay?" she said, taking a sip of her punch. That was the one little bit of doom-and-gloom wisdom she'd impart on him, for fear of seeming overly pedantic. "Oh, yes! It's not far from the docks. If you've seen that big market about... ten minutes from here? It's right by there," she said excitedly. "The crowd that shows up can really depend on the day, sometimes they're tough and sometimes the competition's a little soft. If you want to-" She paused. It probably wasn't a smart move to invite her new hookup's little brother to a fight, of all places. "If you want to get an exercise match in, it's a good place to start," she said, amending her original thought. "Your brother seems like he might enjoy it. What do you think?"

"Yup, I know! Sometimes people come by with weird questions and want some help, or try to peek into the windows. I just go ahead and tell them. 'Sorry, no one here can help, go to the city guards!', or toss them something out the window. It's hard to say no to someone who just wants some help finding another kids, or a lost pet, but... It's not my job. I-I mean it could be my job, but Ilkay would beat them up if something goes wrong, and I wouldn't want someone to get a black eye over me, if they don't really deserve it!" Koray knew how protective his big brother could get, especially if anything made Koray startled or scared enough to cry. He didn't even want to think about the trail of black eyes, contusions, and broken bones Ilkay left behind in their travels because of him! ... Though he would secretly admit, he loved the attention, and hoped Ilkay stayed with him forever! A cool big brother like that was too perfect to have leave his side! He listened to her describe the little arena, eyes cast downwards has he focused on his little embroidery project. "... Oh! Yes, I know where you're talking about! I think Ilkay would really like it, yes! I... Um... I'm not that big of a fighter, so I don't think I could fight, but thank you. He'd really REALLY like it though! Especially if there are really pretty people around. He says he likes to 'tumble in the sheets' with them out of the arena too! I don't get why you would wrestle in a pile of sheets, but I think it's because it's softer than the ground at alot of those places. Ooh, but anyway, do some of the fighters use magic, or is it all punchies?"

"No, you're right, Koray, definitely not your job. At least, not right now," she said, nodding. He was such a pure soul, so sweet, but sometimes... being sweet could become someone's downfall. "Who knows, maybe when you're older? It sounds like you like to help people." "Well, if he doesn't get back before I leave, it'd be great if you could pass along the message," she said with a smile. There was no question about whether or not she was going, so she didn't need to deliver the invite in person. At Koray's "tumble in the sheets" comment, Iro had to choke down her swig of fruit punch, coughing as some of it went down the wrong pipe. "Oh, Koray, no, it..." she opened her mouth to speak, and then promptly closed it again. This would take a second. "It's just a metaphor. They don't literally wrestle in a pile of sheets." And then she snagged the next available opportunity to change the topic, hoping it wouldn't occur to him to ask what it was a metaphor for. "Well, at these ones, it's all punches. Although you do get the occasional magic user who shows up, but... the crowd tends to think of them as cheaters and boo them out," she said hastily.

"Thank you... I do like to help people, and I promise I'll give Ilkay the message too! That'll be me helping you, right? Right!" He got up from his little sitting space and hurried over to the table with a parchment and a quill, jotting down everything, including Iro's name at the bottom of the note. Perfect! "A metaphor? For what?" Wait... Wait a minute, he knew that reaction! Ma, Papa, and Dad all did the same thing! Ilkay did it too! He knew what it meant, it meant they thought he shouldn't know what they were talking about! ... Alright, fine. Koray didn't know Iro all that well, so he only nodded at her and smiled. "Okay, if you say so, Miss Iro! Ooo, no, can I call you big-sis? Since you're Ilkay's friend, you feel like a big-sis to me!" Alot of the people Ilkay hung around didn't seem to like formalities all that much. It was a habit he noticed was shared between those of the scrapper type. But they did like it when they were called big-bro or big-sis! "That's a little sad. Some people don't have big muscles or strong arms to fight. Papa says that my arms are meant for holding a book or staff, rather than punchin' people. And I am a little good at magic! I still like watching people fight like Ilkay does as long as they don't... Um... As long as it's not really them being mean and fighting... Sparring!! That's the word!"

He was so adorable. Iro just wanted to squish his cheeks and give him a hug. "That's perfect," she beamed. "Just what I needed. Thanks, Koray!" She held up a fist for him to bump. Oh, he asked. Iro's mind started spinning the moment she heard "metaphor," and she was at once shocked and terribly relieved when the boy decided to drop the matter just a moment later. The last thing she needed was to have accidentally taught Ilkay's little brother the concept behind "tumbling in the sheets." That was a lesson she'd leave for Ilkay to tackle. "That you can!" she said, brightening up, still reeling a bit from that close call. For someone who'd grown up in her part of town, "Miss Iro" sounded weird and foreign. Impersonal, even. But "big-sis" wonderfully familiar. "I like the sound of that!" She nodded thoughtfully. In truth, she'd never thought about people who didn't have the physical build and strength to fight wanting to try their hand at sparring. Those rings were for people who specifically wanted to use their hands, weren't they? But... "I wonder if they have sparring rings for magical folk," she said, rubbing her chin thoughtfully. "That'd be kind of cool to watch, wouldn't it? What kind of magic do you do?"

"Big-Sis it is then! Hm... I know other places have them! Like further north, and the isles across the ocean. Here, I'm not sure. And my magic... I'm still figuring that out. Ma is like Ilkay, good with her firsts, but Papa and Dad both are really bad at any sort of combat. One's a chef, the other is a carpenter. I guess I gotta find a good teacher one of these days, but it's hard when you're travelin' all the time." Books could only teach Koray so much, and even then, form was hard to learn from text alone. And you couldn't learn magic simply by hopping in to a ring. He learned that he hard way. It didn't often just come to you, there were basics to know! "Ohh, but how do you fight? Are you good with your hands like Ilkay is? He says his hands are magical and he has people begging for more! .. I don't understand why people would beg to be punched more, but who knows!"

"Well, I hope you find a good teacher," Iro said thoughtfully, pursing her lips in thought. "If you want, I can try to look around for you a bit. It'd be a shame if that talent of yours went to waste! If you ever get to one of these magical sparring rings, you better invite me to come watch ringside." There weren't many magically gifted folks in her neighborhood, but her lifetime of experience in the streets of Jatine had to count for something when it came to something like this. She grinned as he began on his next train of thought, and nodded. "Oh, yes, I am, I-" Oh no. Not in the way that Ilkay meant it when he said he was good with his hands. "It's, uhm, sarcastic?" she finished, raising her brow hopefully. "But yea, no, you're right, people shouldn't want to get punched at all." She nodded. It hurt. "I like to fight with my hands too." She opened her hands and turned them palms up, looking at the hard callouses that had built on them from years of hauling on ropes and fishing rods. "I use 'em for everything, see?"

“I hope so too... W-would you really? That would be really kind of you, Big-sis!” A teacher of his own!! The best case scenario would be a teacher willing to travel with them, but even he knew that was a long shot. He could hope though! Again, Koray gave a knowing smile, assuming that she was hiding something. It was fun to watch! Sure he didn’t get it, but it was still entertaining. What he did gasp out though was her hands! They were much bigger than his own, and he took one between his hands, feeling the callouses and admiring what he knew was hard work. “Wow... That’s... That’s so cool! Your hands feel just like my mom’s! You must be just as tough as she is!”

Iro nodded. "I'll look! I can't promise anything, but I'd like to ask around. I think I've got friends who might be able to point me in the right direction." His reaction was so lovely. She'd have to really ask around and try to find him one. Already, some thoughts were forming in her head, contacts she could single out who might know more contacts. She hoped it could be done and that she hadn't just raised this boy's hopes for no reason. "Oh yea?" She couldn't help but grin at his reaction, let him snag one of her hands to feel at the callouses. It was heartwarming to hear him compare her to his mother (a comparison that she was certainly not about to relay to Ilkay), and she leaned an elbow against the table while he inspected her hands. "Your mom sounds like an awesome, strong woman. What does she do?"
