Clouds hovered and coalesced into a huge thunderhead that promised more rain and lightning. It had been happening quite a bit but it was the stormy season in matori so there was nothing that could be done. He actually liked storms, their whole ambience soothed something in him and made him quiet and thoughtful.
He had just come out of the little bookstore with a few new books when he saw a familiar form.
"Thea! We better hurry before the rain comes!"

She was busy looking at the sky when she heard Rydan's voice call out to her. Thea wasn't a fan of storms. Rain she was okay with. It usually cooled things down for a bit or was fun to play in. The thunder and lightning? No. She looked at her small tree dragon with a worried expression before she hurried over to his side. "Did you find what you wanted?" Despite the storm brewing in the sky she was curious to see if Rydan had gotten something interesting or useful. Her green eyes glanced up at him then at the books with some interest. Was it something she might find fun to read?

Rydan smiled when he saw her, his flaming flower, gosh she was beautiful. "Well yes, want to see?" He offered her the top book, '100 things to do in Matori Before you die.' This was followed by the second with a green leather cover, 'The adventures of Pirate King Averas.' Then there was a rather thin but tall book with a blue cover. 'High Cuisine, Fancy cooking Ordinary Life.' "They didn't have 'Larrei speaks to Sea Monsters,' That has always been my favorite, if you find a copy pick it up, I'll pay you back." He loved reading, thus he knew many things, but he did not know it all by a long shot. Each new tidbit of information was like a small explosion of flavour, it kept life interesting." His father had a blue beaten up copy of that book in the forge, for slow days. Rydan had learned to read this way, sitting on his Father's knee in the middle of the quiet forge, he who usually wrought the noise was peacefully reading to his son. "Are you okay? You look concerned." He was sad that something had made her worry.

As he showed her the top book she reached out to take hold of it. Thea was legitimately curious about the books Rydan liked. With the book in hand she opened the cover and then flipped a few pages before her eyes were drawn to the next in the small pile he had. Of course the titles caught her attention and she smiled at him with a small shake of her head. Thew mention of another book that he was unable to find she lifted her gaze up to meet his as she handed the first book back to him. "Hmn, well if I find it I'll be sure to get it." Thea didn't really pay attention to books but maybe she ought to? Wouldn't hurt to try and stash a book or two on her person and see how well she could hide them in her clothing. If she was going to get really good at what she did then she may need to take a book one day. His question about her worried look made her glance at the sky. "I am not overly fond of thunder and lightning. Rain I can deal with.." She didn't scream and hide or anything like that she just tended to tense up whenever thunder happened and maybe flinch when the bright flash of lightning happened. Not her favorite things in the world.

"Hold on, I have the perfect place." He wrapped his arm around her lithe frame, giving him what support she could take from his closeness. He liked storms, but he liked them from a safe area. He led them to a well covered cafe type place, they happened to have couches that faced the ocean with a small glasswork coffee table with little metal snaptrotters holding it up. "Cafe Mer. Its my favorite. We can watch the storm together from the comfort of a hot beverage and a soft blanket." He hoped that she was pleased. "Do you want to try it? We can go home if you want though."

She gave him a somewhat confused look before she moved a small inch closer to him as they walked. If he was providing the comfort then she would take it. Thea liked Rydan enough to be okay with showing her weaknesses. Had it been anyone else she might have put on a brave face. When they got to the small cafe she looked at it as he explained that they could watch the storm from a safe place. Of course he also gave her the option of just going home. Theanduri considered for a second then gave a nod toward the cafe couch. "We can try it." It also gave her an excuse to curl up at his side under a blanket while he read or something. "Should be safe enough with my tree dragon around." Thea smiled up at him then.

The amount of trust she put in him was staggering and he was duly honored at her bravery. "Okay, let me go get our drinks real quick, and the blanket." He rushed over and grinning asked the attendant for the required items plus some snacks. He came back to the couch, set the drinks and snacks down before curling up on the couch and holding the blanket open for her to join him. "Milady, your throne," He grinned up at her the delight in his eyes. "Try the snacks too their chip dip is amazing." He loved food though so she would have to judge for herself. His feelings grew for her each day. She was sweet but spicey, she wanted his company but didn't need it she could easily stand on her own and that just drove him mad in the best way. An equal, another strong pillar in this world full of fops, roosters and flakes. "Would you like anything else?"

While he went about getting the things he'd listed she looked at the sky with a frown again. If it was just rain then she'd be fine with it. Heck, a good rain was always welcome. It felt good on the skin, especially in the heat. When Rydan returned she waited a bit before taking up the spot next to him. Thea scooted so that she was right up against him and able to cover with the blanket comfortably. Once she was snuggled in she slipped her arms around his middle to hug onto him. "No, I'm comfortable." Thea was hoping that it would be just the rain that came. The sight, sound, and smell of it would be relaxing enough that she wouldn't be worried about anything else. It would also likely lull her to sleep since she had a warm body to cuddle against.

"I'm glad." She felt good snuggled against him, so it was only natural that his arm came around her. The muscle more defined now that he was practicing at the forge regularly. He was almost purring with how happy he was, now as long as the storm did not mess this up for him he would be on cloud nine for a while. "I never thought that I would find anyone that I could relax like this with. Thank you Thea for being you. I would have been so lonely and sad without you." He leaned over slowly and kissed her hair. Quickly, but hoping he conveyed at least some of what he was feeling for her. It deepened every day. Like the roots of a tree and like the ocean after rain. It was the most natural thing in the world. Rydan breathed in the night air and their mingled scents. It felt right. He was so at peace.

The kiss to her hair made her smile and close her eyes so that she could enjoy the warm snuggling. She was also hoping that the storm didn't ruin things. It was nice to sit curled up with Rydan. "Ah, well it only took you hanging upside down in a tree for me to find you." Thea peeked an eye open to look at him and see if he caught that she was teasing him a little for how they met. "Were you going to read while we sat here?" She asked him curiously. "As long as there isn't any loud booms then I could fall asleep like this." Opening both eyes she looked out at the sky again, less wary now that she was cuddled up next to her tree dragon. She might need to look into putting a couch of sorts outside so that they could do it more often. Which also meant she'd need to find a permanent home on the beach to share with him.

"True," She was so beautiful when she was half sleepy like this. "I wasn't going to read, I was just going to absorb the moment." He sipped the hot cocoa, the sweet and tart washing over his tongue and he sighed with contentment. "If you want me to read I can." He could always read. It was so much a part of him, just as much as the forge was. But he had liked just basking in her ambience. "I would probably have started to read only if you fell asleep." He ran his hand gently over her hair. She was so special. He couldn't believe that he had gotten to her first. Obviously she had impeccable taste. He was enjoying this so much. "We could build a life together Thea. I have my trade now so I feel I am ready. Would you consider getting more serious with me? You were the piece that was missing from my life. I-I love you."

"No it's fine, I just wasn't sure if you were going to." She smiled up at him before she leaned her head against him again. She was content to stay where she was, even with the storm going on outside around them. The wind moved the droplets of water in the air but so far there had been no flashes of light or loud booms to cause her to react. Her eyes were drifting closed as he stroked her hair, the action lulling her into comfort and possible sleep, when she heard him say something. Thea opened her eyes and stared at the rain for a second. Slowly color crept into her face, making her cheeks warm. "I.. I.. Wha-.." She stumbled over her words for a minute. "Y-you mean like.. actually dating?" They spent a lot of time together as it was so it wouldn't be too much of a leap to go from friends to dating.

"Yes, exactly like dating. I know we are moving fast so I leave it up to you to decide." He felt ready to take on the relationship and everything that may accompany it. "I just feel like I can be me when you are around and I don't want to lose that. I don't want to lose you. You are my best friend and you always listen to what I have to say, you don't make me feel self conscious at all." He was babbling. He should stop babbling. The rain was pouring down hard out side and he took another sip to prevent any more words from escaping his mouth.

She took a minute to listen and really process what it was that he said. Thea sank a little into the blanket, bringing it up so that it was at her chin. Pressing her lips together she watched the rain some more. "You're not going to lose me. You are my tree dragon." She felt that needed to be clarified before anything else. She was the one that found him stuck in a tree and helped him down. Her green eyes moved to the side so that she could see him take the sip from his cup. "Yes." Thea watched him to see what his reaction to her agreement would be.

He exhaled slowly, preventing himself from snorting hot cocoa anywhere by a hair. She had chosen that exact moment to end his torture. "Yes?" He grinned. "I am the luckiest man." Even his feelers felt warm with the blush on his face, it made him faintly purple in color. "I am so glad I am your tree dragon." He still remembered his first glimpse of her, upside down though it was. She could have done whatever but she had chosen to become his friend and was now more. What kind of luck was that he was truly blessed by the gods. All of them. He leaned in and gently brushed his lips over her forehead, not brave enough yet to kiss her full on. He wanted her to decide when that would be.
